We haven't been working on LEGO City too much over the summer, but fall is here in New England, so its time to get working again. I tried my luck at modular type city block last spring. I posted a few pics when I started it, and I think its almost done. The ground level has a pizza shop, pawn shop, bank and stairwell to the 2nd level office. I may go up one more floor. Its regular blue on the 2nd floor not medium as it appears in the photo. The roof lifts off. The whole 10 x 10 can lift out of the city block if I want to turn it or possibly move it to a different section of the city. I haven't quite finished the inside yet, the pizza shop needs to be done. All six of these buildings are on 10 x 10 bases and can be swapped around like musical chairs. Heres a shot of the Octan gas station and convenience store. You have to drive up the backside ramp to access the gas pumps. This also puts it at a good level for the yellow train station behind it. This last shot is the long view. Almost everything is scratch built or modified LEGO set. Almost everything is modular with removable floors and roofs. The city sits on a 4x8 sheet of plywood. I had it at 4 x 12 but didn't have enough train tracks to make it all the way around, so I brought it down to 4x8. Over the winter we will probably get it back to 4x12. Especially if I pick up the new Taj Mahal! One last shot featuring the lovely Green Grocer! Hope you like it, comments and criticism welcome.

Wow! Very nicely done!

Thanks guys, its nice to see other people modding the existing design too!

Hi, I bought this set a while ago, and have since remodeled it into a larger 8 wide truck. Now it can hold a driver and passenger. Its kind of boxy, I may redesign it in the future.

This is so crazy! Why doesn't LEGO make something like this available to the general public? Don't they realize how many of these they could sell?
-
Very cool. Love the variety used in the minifigs. The guy crushing the beetle is one of my fav minifig heads. He's like the town idiot but you gotta love him! Very different building technique! Great detail!!

Does anyone know when these sets will be available in the US? I don't see them on LEGO US. I found a set on eBay but the Unimog was not included. Just a wimpy looking truck and four wheeler.

So I am basically am a LEGO city builder, but I have been eyeing the Star Wars 7657 AT-ST at evil WalMart. I loved the Star Wars movies as a kid and when they did all the new stuff a few years ago. But the LEGO SW seemed always more of a display type of LEGO to me. So I grabbed the 7657, its only 20 bucks and I have to say its a great set! The build was fun and easy, with tons of great specialty pieces. It even looks cool standing in the middle of my city! Kind of like a weird apocolypse scene! Just figured I'd share this little blurb! I can see why so many of you are so into the LEGO S/W sets, and the MOCS I've seen here are truly amazing. Rock on with your evil dark side S/W LEGO, and I think i may be picking up a few more sets myself!

WIP: 4 sided modular central city block Phase I
Badsneaker replied to Badsneaker's topic in LEGO Town
A bank in the 4 section is a great idea thanks AgentRick57! Looks like I need to go shopping for those "bank" windows I saw on eBay a while ago! Section 4 is still empty. I got the outside of the pawn shop and pizza shop done. The stairwell gated entrance to the upper stories is done too. Thanks Andy, I'll get some more pics going this weekend with Phase II. -
WIP: 4 sided modular central city block Phase I

Most of the less common pieces I pick up from Bricklink.com and eBay. -
I think this Octan fuel driver may beg to differ. He prefers the feel of an 8 wide truck, with a 6 wide cab section. Please don't disagree with him, after all, he's delivering the fuel you all need to keep your LEGO cars and trucks rolling.

So I have a central green 32x32 plate surrounded by grey roadplates in my city. I decided to make some sort of removable 4 sided city block with 3-4 shops and a 1-2 story office building on top. This is a lime green pawn/trading shop. Its my first time building an angled entrance. I found those cool blue tiles with the stars on Bricklink. They are printed not stickers. I'll throw some lights up later. This next section is a pizza joint. I used the headlight bricks and dark grey smooth tiles for a nice Italian brickwork feel to this section. Plenty of overhead lighting too. This gated section is the 3rd section of 4. This will be the entrance with stairs to the 2nd and 3rd floor office section. Note the cool curtains on the pizzeria. I copied this from the green grocer, true, but it looks great! Heres an action shot of some workers: Someones always on break: Digger and dump truck in action: City is still busy: Heres a good shot of the pizzeria so far: We'll do a few dining tables, cash register and pizza oven later. Another shot from a different angle. What will be very cool about this central block is I can pull it up and face it in 4 different directions or move it a different part of the city. This is an inside shot of the pawn shop. I'll add a few tables with clear tops and a cash register along with a grumpy old man. I'm not sure what I'll do on the 4th section. I'm thinking maybe an walk in animal clinic.

Great looking dump trucks! Both the LDD version and the real look excellent. I may do one in 8 wide with a 6 wide window using 43.2 x 28 tires and wheels!

Is your sister old enough to drive? Looks great! Love the shower room!

Thanks Asuka and Legotrainfan. I was at a loss when I got to the roof section on my green and red house. It took a few days of trial and error before I got it the way I wanted it. I did use a lot of ordinary bricks. Lots of smooth tiles throughout. I'm working on a 32x32 city block right now. It going to have 3 shops all joined, 1 floor, with a 1 or 2 floor office building on top. Its on a green 32x32 plate which can be lifted out, turned in 4 different directions, or moved to another part of town. I'll post a few pics tonight of phase 1. If you look at the 2nd pic down, you can see the green base at the center left of the pic. This is where I am building it.

Thanks Cal! I checked out your City. WOW! Beautiful! I really love the white City Hall style building!

Here is a shot of this modular home I've been working on. Its my first large multi story modular building. It's 3 floors with a rooftop terrace. It kind of makes the green grocer look small so I may move it a few blocks down. The medium blue villa to the right is my daughters home. It features 3 removable floors, rooftop terrace and twin opening skylights. Heres a shot of the roof and terrace. Plenty of seating for guests with overhead lighting for those all night parties. Heres the other side. I used some cabana pieces to cover the stairwell coming up to the terrace. This is the rear with the fire escapes in the "up" position. Here they are in the down position. This is the 1st floor. No furniture, just a small throw rug for now. This is all floors removed. I'll try to get some better shots of this.

Thanks guys! I know, sorry about the title, I can't change or edit it. May a mod can change it "MY new NEGO city pics"

Here are a few pics of our LEGO city. The whole left side is completely modular each building is built on a single 32 x 32 green plate so I can slide each building out and change it around. Here is the Octan gas station/snack shop. We have a removable roof with ladder access to the A/C units on the roof. Inside we have a grill, register, shelves for snacks and a soda machine Basic church: Removable 2nd floor: Front view: Octan fuel truck: Still in development, as always.

You know that is same question my wife keeps asking me every time I am building LEGO! More pics of the recycle truck. The roof pops off, the printed 1 x 6 slopes and various orange pieces came from Bricklink. Scratchbuilt from the wheels up using some original LEGO truck parts and enlargening the rear dump section. I think I may need to go a little larger on the dump section. Longer wheelbase maybe. Room for 2 community workers and a sleeping section for those long hauls...

Love the fireplace! Looks great!

LOL that definitely wasn't me taking the pic of the SWAT van!!! I agree the 8 wide trucks are a little too big for the baseplates. Remember these plates are essentially the same design since the late 70's when a LEGO tractor-trailer was still 4 studs wide! Its funny how LEGO makes larger trucks now but the roadplates are still designed for 4 wide cars and trucks. I'll get some pics posted tonight with these trucks rolling in my city.
-
Thanks guys, Here is a SWAT van with the guys hanging on the sides: I've got some more stuff I'll post later. I will get some interior shots of the vehicles too. Great board here, some real cool MOC's!

Thanks for the welcome! I'm mainly into town/city/trains. I like the Star Wars themes although I do not collect them. No Brickshelf yet.
