  1. It's purely meant to be Hollywood's Chinese Theater BUT generic enough not to have Lego pay licensing fees. And, as someone who goes there often enough, it looks nothing like the real thing except for the center roof piece!
  2. My 2 cents: (borrowing LKS's format) Sea Captain > Buying multiples just for that Seagull!! 9/10. Sad Clown > ALWAYS wanting more clowns! 9/10. Librarian > Meh. But needed for City enthusiasts. 5/10. Grandpa > LOVE the new bald-cap hair piece!! Makes bald characters look more "finished" than just leaving off the hairpiece 9/10. Bumblebee Girl > Not quite sold on theexecution, but I like the concept 7/10. Roman Commander > I love it! Building that Roman army one bit at a time! 9/10. Warrior Woman > A friend for the Highlander I guess 8/10. Decorator > Not my favorite but really well done & a must for City 8/10. Tomahawk Warrior > Hope he comes with a headdress or hair piece 9/10. Trendsetter > Yay! A Victim for my Monster Fighters! 9/10. Baseball Fielder > Assuming it comes with a hat.Like the glove though. 7/10. Revolution Soldier > Isn't this one coming with the book? Looks good 9/10. Motorcycle Mechanic > Biker Bullys! 9/10. Medusa > My most wished-for, a minor letdown in execution 9/10. Skydiver > Meh 5/10. Paintball Player > Meh again. 5/10.
  3. My ONE complaint is that it looks like the Cow Skull only comes with the Mine set. I really hope it's in more sets, and it really needs to be in the cheap army-building sets! This line needs more Cow Skulls! And for everyone looking at the bright side of getting multiple Lone Rangers for the hat & torso, don't forget his new guns too! :) This line is so good, I now want this movie to succeed!!
  4. Same principle as their re-use of printed pieces. Lego has already paid someone to write the web bio's, why pay again? Lego *loves* to recycle Shame they couldn't expand and show the design process of each figure.
  5. I lost an entire post the day of the glitch, which was more lengthy than I care to repeat. Basically, I HATE that Lego is making several of these only 2 per box. Have they decided that only army-builders buy in bulk? I plan on buying several duplicates of Forest Maiden, Waiter, and my favorite, Fortune Teller. Having 6 per box on anything is excessive. Everything needs to be at least 3 per box! Plus, Lego sorely misjudged the desirability of what they have, especially with the Maiden.
  6. So, basically it follows the classic stages of grief? Denial, then Anger, then Bargaining, Depression and finally Acceptance? Interesting...
  7. I voted YES! Everything Lego-related inspires creativity. As an AFOL, I get many, many ideas when I see new Lego products. I'm already planning projects for the multiple minifigures from this wave I want. WHY do I want info early? Well, the timeliness of this tease, for me, coincides with a lot of sales going on, including the 2-day BOGO sale at TRU. Due to this official tease, I have bought more existing sets in anticipation of future MOC needs based on these new figures. More knowledge of what's coming lets us ALL plan our finances better. The tease of series 10 & 11 also has me snapping up sets that I never planned to get in the first place, and now I can get them before they are out of print, so Lego gets more of my money (win-win for both of us!) I really, really hope this is a start of Lego sharing more upcoming releases with us much sooner. For items that people have no interest in or plan to pass on, seeing it sooner isn't going to hurt or change their mind. BUT seeing them sooner fosters more creativity and better sales (especially in my case, and I bet I'm not alone!) It allows people to set aside more money for what they want, especially from non-Lego stuff, and I think it helps spur sales of existing sets. Plus, giving us more lead time to plan MOC's in LDD is always a good thing. And, as CMF's go, these figures are always pure gold. Sure, a lot of us army build, but a lot of us customize as well! I buy so many extras with specific intentions of parts-swapping among series. Now that I see the Chicken Suit guy, for example, I'm going to go track down *another* s7 Evil Knight just to put the "evil" face inside that chicken suit! (I did the same with the Bunny suit and it's so cool!) The only reason companies like Lego hide releases for so long is due to concern over competitors trying to beat them to the market. That's a good idea for new, unique themes like Galaxy Squad for example. But for established themes like City, CMF's, etc, there is NO competition as far as many of us go. If Playmobil ever beats Lego to market with a figure in their copied blind-bag minifig series, I'll still wait for the Lego version because that is where my passion is. Long story short: I think Lego won't lose any sales by releasing info sooner, but would rather GAIN more sales instead as a result!
  8. 2 VERY important points to make here: 1) This means CMF's are NOT ending with series 10!!! (that was an ugly rumor!) 2) For everyone not thrilled with some of these choices (i.e. Mountain Climber & Welder), remember how we felt about earlier figs like The Actor, before we saw pictures of how awesome he was? I'm waiting to reserve judgement until I see pics! I think I'm more excited about this wave than wave 10! Every wave has at least something for everyone. But for me, the hits have far exceeded the misses. Even the characters I'm not excited about are still well done. The Welder alone will look great in a lot of City MOC's. This is hands down the absolute smartest thing Lego has done in a long time. These things sell like hotcakes. They are so well done. This is the one Lego product I never want to see end! The only thing that baffles my mind is the thought that Lego even *considers* that Playmobil or any of the other companies are even in the same realm of "competition" with them! I think they should be more open about upcoming CMF's instead of worrying about the so-called competition!. I would love to see them allow the fan community to vote on at least one concept each wave. But, I'm not too concerned because it seems like they really know what we want! Again, we can't expect each wave to have 100% of what we want, they have to serve each subset, but every wave has had something from the top of most top-10 lists I see posted here!
  9. The original Medusa also didn't have Lego-compatible parts! Ray Harrhausen created Medusa with a Snake tail for 1982's Clash of the Titans. It's an incredible design and concept, hence the reason many of us want her with snake-legs. Hopefully we'll get an updated version with a future Monster Fighter-esqe set! (Compare the CMF Werewolf to the MF version. Yep, there's plenty of precedent!)
  10. This thread needs to be closed. It's based on pure speculation.
  11. Downtown Cop - Maybe an undercover cop, using that Hobo design? Or else it's a Beverly Hills Cop Eddie Murphy type?
  12. Nope. I'm hoping she comes with the micro-trophy figure as an Oscar.
  13. Has there been any word yet on if this theme will continue in 2013? With all the other new 2013 pictures from other themes popping up lately, it's concerning that there are no new MF sets revealed.
  14. It's amazing how everyone is so surprised that Licensed sets are where a lot of the money is at! DISREGARD your personal feelings and look at why it makes sense from a *business* perspective: Licensed properties are actively adverstised across a wide range of media! It's that free advertising that drives the licensee's desires to make the products. Why do you think we didn't receive Indiana Jones sets or LOTR sets until there was a new movie being made? Kids and gift givers will see the billboards, commercials, trailers, presumably see the movie (but even when they don't they are usually at least *aware* of it). So, a large part of selling the sets are already done - now it's just up to Lego and the Movie to seal the deal (Lego to make it look worthwhile, and the Movie to not be terrible). The second added bonus, from Lego's perspective, is that they love to be storytellers with their sets. With a licensed property, their work is already done for them for the most part! Now, with this increased sales momentum, Lego is more willing to add NEW elements to these sets to make the costs a bit more palatable for us. Yes, licensed sets cost more, yes, that really sucks, but it's great that Lego doesn't totally cheap out on us on what we get for our money's worth. I'm sorry for those of you who are disappointed in the Flesh colored heads. I love them, and that's actually what brought me back to Lego. I really hated the old Yellow Star Wars minifigs. But look at it this way: Do you *really* think that Lone Ranger will sell better than POTC or POP? I don't, therefore I'm actively looking forward to buying these on clearance in bulk to add to my bins to create MOCs with! I doubt Lego will lose their shirts on these sets (I *don't* want Lego going out of business, but one line's failure won't diminish the huge profits from Friends, SW, Batman, etc!) Bonus for me is more Flesh heads, but for those diehard yellow fans, you can always trade or bricklink. EDIT to add: With Disney movie sets, Lego gains a few more retailers since the Disney parks and stores will sell always carry those. Funny but sad, I can go to Downtown Disneyland, buy POTC from the Lego Store at MSRP, or walk a few stores down to the Disney Store and buy the same set with a 20% markup!
  15. I'm actually excited about the rumors for a Lone Ranger line! I expect it to be like Prince of Persia - a forgettable movie with clearanced sets, so a perfect way for me to stock up on cheap fleshie heads! I know it'll be at a markup due to the license, but that should also get us plenty of new Wild West elements. But I really expect to see some good clearance sales on this line. And as for a possible TMNT line taking over for Spongebob? I hope not! If the two can't co-exist at retail, I'd prefer more Spongebob sets.
  16. I was *thrilled* when they switched from yellow to flesh-tones for licensed sets. I missed out on a lot of the earlier Potter sets but I love that Potter, Star Wars, LOTR, POTC and more are done in flesh.
  17. This perfectly sums up for me why I NEVER want this line to end!! If I ever tire of it, I'm sure there will still be a handful out of each 16-figure set I'll still want. But I don't see myself tiring of getting a full set of each series! This will always be our best bet for getting figures that we would never see otherwise.
  18. S6 is still my favorite overall so far. I had to vote Man-Bat for S8. Wonderful figure, different enough from the Vampyre Castle version to both complement it AND allow for army-building them at at more reasonable price. Bring on more monsters and fantasy figures! (Except that fairy. She is a huge disappointment) The Actor is great and I hope to see that ruffle neckpiece used again by Lego in the future!
  19. NICE!! Loved the hut! I'm more eager to see more Monster Fighter MOC's than any other theme! Bring on more!
  20. Great review! Loved the funny pics. I'll never look at the humans in this line the same way again! I had mixed feelings myself on how to vote on this overall set. It's OUTSTANDING in the fact that Lego is making this whole theme, especially with more Zombies! So that alone will bring up my estimation of any review of a Zombie-themed set. That said, this is really a good set, and I paid $40USD for it. I wish this set was cheaper, though. At $30, THAT would have been the perfect price! I know how Lego loves it's vehicles, but I would have gladly sacrificed the vehicle for a better Tomb build. But I do like that we got that train grill piece, so it's not a total wash! ONE THING TO NOTE: The Bride figure, when placed inside the rising tomb, will not close all the way due to the slope dress. And like you, Penguin, I love those flat round 1x1 stud pieces! I want a lot and in a ton of colors! Lego, are you listening? To anyone on the fence on this set: GET IT! It's worth it just for the minifigs alone.
  21. Ugh. Hugely disappointing list! I really wish we were getting more support for the Jabba's Palace theme. I love what we've gotten so far, but you know at least Ree-Yees was planned at some point. I was hoping to see an add-on alcove or three with more aliens! As much as I didn't care for Episode II, I'd still rather have it than this EU stuff. I don't mind Clone Wars, but this video game stuff does nothing for me. And the planets are very disappointing, so at least I'll be saving more money to spend on LOTR.
  22. It's not just one book. It's also the appendices the Tolkein wrote which includes stuff that took place during the same time, PLUS added material by Jackson & his team of awesome writers (Fran & Phillipa) to bridge The Hobbit with LOTR. Anyone else and I'd be apprehensive, but Peter Jackson has already earned our trust with LOTR. Heck, even the extended editions are better than the theatricaln versions in my own opinion. But even getting a few extra sets out of this deal from both LOTR & The Hobbit will be awesome!
  23. I'm so glad they extended The Hobbit to Three movies from Two! More time in theaters = more product on shelf!! I just hope LOTR keeps getting new releases! My biggest fear is that these will go away once the movies are finished (like POTC and Indiana Jones), leaving lots of unfulfilled wishlists!
  24. I LOVE the monster set! To all the complainers, it's meant to compliment the Haunted Mansion set, as well as the other MF sets AND Halloween in general. Lego is aiming this set at the gift-buyers. I really wish that the Zombie was the same as CMF S1. But I'm really disappointed that the Witch is completely unchanged from S2. A different face at least would have been nice. And we could always use more Ghosts! I'm army-buying a TON of these sets! Plus *maybe* one Rock & Roll set. Will have to see it in person first.
  25. Here's a few thoughts for everyone to ponder: Regarding Angels, Devils, Monks, etc, hasn't TLG specifically stated they would NOT release religious-themed stuff? I know these figures would sell very well, but IIRC Lego specifically ruled these out already. (sad, because I'd buy a ton) Regarding Abraham Lincoln, Ben Franklin, etc.: Is this even possible? Lego seems to focus on the generic, so seeing specific personalities seems unlikely. I mean, even fictional characters who are Public Domain aren't even named (Sherlock Holmes, Red Riding Hood, etc). Sure, TLG could do these figures and give them generic names. But then that brings me to another point: TLG is not an American company, so why would they focus on American politicians? Sure, cowboys, etc do well, but is there an *international* market for things like this? That said, I'd still be down for these in a heartbeat! Also, same logic applies for Queen Elizabeth - too specific. Now, another thing to think about in your guesses is that Lego likes to complement existing sets in CMF(except for licensed sets due to contract issues), and are very heavy into parts re-use. Even Alien Conquest got the recent Queen after the line was cancelled! (Of course, City is always well represented). So consider these in your guesses. I do love the non-themed stuff, like the Fantasy and Historical figures. For everyone wanting an Indian Snake Charmer, you did know one was released in the Medieval Character Education set right? Granted, it's not the most detailed, but there it is... My hands down favorites are the monsters. This is what brought me (and others I'm sure) into collecting the CMF's. We need more Zombies, and I hope Lego continues to make a wide variety for years to come! Also I hope the Monster Fighter line continues at least a few more waves. I know people have talked about how long will this line continue. I hope indefinitely, even if the releases per year have to be decreased to maintain quality (I hope not). But here are my guesses 1) Medusa (even if not wave 9, she NEEDS to be made. Awesome concept, and the top of many wish-lists!) 2) Angry Villager with Pitchfork (double-sided head, can go with Castle theme AND Monster Fighters theme!) 3) Hunchback (Quasimodo) 4) Wolf as Granny (to complement Red Riding Hood) 5) Cyclops 6) Judge with powdered wig 7) Ancient Greek Scholar 8) Female Elf 9) Man in Suit (prefer Panda or Pig, so many other great ideas posted incl. Elephant & Chicken) 10) Clown with big shoes (love the circus theme, need more figs from it, clowns always welcome) 11) "Evil" Wrestler to complement S1 Luchador 12) Golfer 13) Accordian Player with Dancing Monkey 14) Anubis Guard (reuse of Pharaoh's Quest with new deco) 15) Actress with gold statuette accessory 16) Space Man Astronaut - Red suit I'd love to guess more Monster figures like a Bride of Frankenstein or Evil Lab Assistant (Igor or Renfield), but I'm really hoping TLG is saving these for a second wave of MF sets. I would army build the Angry Villager like mad! And giving them torches is simple enough from anyones parts-bin, as long as they officially come with pitchforks and dual-printed heads for different expressions (neutral and ANGRY!)
