  1. The duck on a roller skate is an official LEGO build ... from yesterday's Friends calendar (I can post now without spoiler warnings!)
  2. That's up to you, depending on what you find inappropriate or gross. The birth / creation of Lurtz was a pretty gross scene in LOTR, but LEGO even made that into a set.
  3. LEGO is in control as to what they put into sets. If they want to do LEGO LOTR again and there is nudity in the show, then they can choose not to show nudity in their sets. They can choose to mark their sets as 18+ if they want to. Not everyone is deeply offended by a boob or backside, and these scenes need not be shown in LEGO form.
  4. Yes, it's not unusual unless they want to keep it a secret as to which LT characters are in it or if there is other sensitive or spoiler information (team affiliations and so on). If it is Space Jam and the LT characters are wearing basketball kits, then it is of no interest to me.
  5. Some of those more techie/sci-fi designs reminded me of this ... That was probably the last time I made a bracelet. Why didn't we have DOTS back in the early 1980s?
  6. Right. Licensed aliens doing what they do in popular movies in licensed sets are completely understandable. But that doesn't mean I'd want to see an alien hairdresser, alien surfer, alien skateboarder, alien dentist, alien butcher, alien chef, alien diner waitress, alien skier, alien wearing a giraffe suit, and so on. They make little sense. And can also be easily made if you really want to putting an alien head on the body of whatever City style character is necessary. If you don't like most of them, the answer is simple. Don't buy them. I collected from Series 1 and this happened to me, but it was about Series 12-15 that I realised they were losing their appeal as a complete collection. Why should? What is appealing about an old man in a boring suit to kids? Kids learning to play the violin will be more interested in a normal kid playing the violin than a bald old man. If you as an AFOL want it to be an old man, then it is straight forward to take a City suited minifigure and give the violin accessory to him. Or, of course, give it to an alien to make an alien violin player.
  7. Even if the show is inappropriate or gross, LEGO could still do LEGO-ized versions if they wanted to. The original movies are not exactly appropriate for kids, yet they still went with them.
  8. Nice MOCs, but given the existing blacksmith set that has been approved, I doubt they have any chance of passing review. Maybe you will get to the 10K club but I cannot see them being successful in review. So in that sense, it doesn't really matter about the parts count, detail and so on. May as well go as best as it can look and get the votes if it will be rejected due to overlap with previous successful IDEAS sets anyway.
  9. Probably an acetate sheet for overhead projectors. PVA works well for that.
  10. Instead of canned air you can use a cheap airbrush compressor instead. Or if you are on a really low budget, a bike pump and old pop bottle. But do it away from the display area, or it just settles again. Maybe LEGO needs to sell LEGO branded dust to sprinkle on displays. That way, even when dusty, they are purist dusty.
  11. I don't see how LEGO would do it much better. The boat is essentially Naida's epic ship from Elves, and the Castle part looks rather LEGO like too.
  12. Well, I'm not surprised at all. In fact ... LEGO Ideas Discussion - Page 187 - General LEGO Discussion - Eurobricks Forums I agree it would probably be only non-licensed. However, it would be interesting in how they pick/package them, as the AFOL programme really seemed to stop all employees doing any work except packing.
  13. Monkey king and ghost knights exist in popular culture. Similarly yetis and gingerbread men and aliens. However, alien gingerbread kings don't so I would not expect to see one. It would suggest they have really run out of ideas and they are just picking random parts from the BAM bins without caring what comes out. If you want unique mashups, just pick multiple bags and mix them up. Or buy random parts in the BAM.
  14. It's already been discussed on the relevant thread.
  15. I guess summer 2020 never happened. Or autumn. Will winter?
  16. So add a cape to the lady bug and armour to the dog yourself. We all have our peculiar fantasies that others would think "what is this?" if it was an official figure. The good thing about these is the lack of skin print on most, so if you want to stick a green head and hands on one of them to make them an alien, you can. We've had loads of superheroes recently in the DC series, and various Batman movie series. Put the plane on the dog and you have a flying dog guy. And what about a centaur drag queen? If they just randomly put a head, torso and accessories together to make an out of the box character, then to most people they will look like they randomly put together a torso, head and accessories. We will end up with a zombie skateboarder (they already did one of them) zombie surfer, alien skateboarder, and so on.
  17. Pretty much what I do. I tend to know what I will use in many builds, so I tend to just buy out a BL store's stock of that part when I am buying something.
  18. Nice build. I was attracted here by the post on the front page and the excitement that someone had discovered white masonry bricks ... oh well, the wait goes on!
  19. I'm sure it would be more widely used if it was more widely available.
  20. Most big new sets that were not purchasable or available on back order over the BF/CM weekend are now available for back order in the UK. So Sesame Street, '89 Batwing, The Child, Colosseum, and so on. The Cantina is still not available, even on back order. The Colosseum is on back order until Jan 22! That is over six weeks away and they know they will be getting stock of it that far enough in advance to take people's orders now. Yet most of the others are due in mid December yet they didn't know about the stocks of those over BF/CM and make them available on back order during the promotion.
  21. Isn't the rumour just that there is a CMF series coming, and there is a movie coming. Put them together and it is a Space Jam 2 CMF series. It ignores - the CMF coming in May, movie not until about 10 weeks later in July. Then will it be just Looney Tunes characters or will there be human basketball players too.
  22. The girls wouldn't have done anyway, but it is nice that the women ones don't either, where possible. It is also nice that most do not have a very small amount of yellow at the neck, rendering them useless for fleshie conversion. So this is good for both swapping genders and swapping them from yellowskins to fleshies. I hope this marks a general change for future series too. To me it just means entertainment in a club or restaurant, so no big deal. It could have been worse - they could have used drag queen, which no doubt some will be used as. You could make any costume into a superhero too by adding a cape and armour any by adding armour. I'm not a fan of the costumes, but I cannot see the appeal of a dog-man in battle armour or a superhero ladybug. I can understand a dog costume. I can understand a battle armour suit. But not a dog in a battle armour suit.
  23. It creates problems when done in combination with promotions. Either they have to store the correct number of promotional sets for later use, or send out the promotional set separately to the order which doubles the deliveries (and then the buyer can just cancel the main order too). Also it creates problems if paying with paypal. The pending payments they use only last one month, if they go over that then they cannot charge properly on dispatch. The original payment fails and they have to ask the customer to pay again.
  24. That's beautiful. I especially like the armour on the neck made from the flower parts. The lance is really good too, I think I recognize some highly modified brickwarriors parts in there. I just looked back through your flickr, those "Gollum gargoyles" are fantastic.
  25. Another way is to give the impression of multiple rooms without actually using interior walls, which can be combined with any of the above. Just use different floor colours, or wall colours, and maybe furniture to break up a much larger space into separate rooms, much like splitting up an open plan room.
