  1. Although the Steamboat Willie set looks nicer than the original, I'm still not sure it is necessarily better. The original submitter designed a much smaller set that looked fine at the scale, I guess aiming for a much lower price point which may have interested more people. LEGO took it and made it bigger and smoother finish and probably trebled the price knocking out many non-Disney fans that may have bought it, presumably as they know Disney fans can be relied on to pay high prices and so if they are doing it, they might as well go as big as they can to get top dollar. In that sense, it is the opposite of many IDEAS sets.
  2. Yes, although it is not very common.
  3. Very nice. I love the central floor, the fireplace and those chairs.
  4. I'm betting they won't be much use.
  5. Clever. It is interesting how flat the bottom and top of the circuit are.
  6. Getting black/white the wrong way round means it is genuine first edition lego!

One of the swimmers is missing after jumping in. Is he underwater or has he run away due to the cold?
  8. I doubt that was the reasoning from lego, as they don't really care about compatibility with sets that have not been available for a decade.
  9. It looks like the natural progression of cat videos on YouTube 10 years ago, through tik tok and now this.
  10. Even if lego had not already made one and the bonsai did pass, it would probably have been redesigned and would end up looking like the one lego produced.
  11. Take a look at the original article where they are copied from ... The Ecto-1 is included there. https://brickset.com/article/57087/lego-ideas-original-projects-vs-final-sets
  12. I don't get the DUPLO comments either, this is far from DUPLO. However, I don't think this is a children's toy aimed at children. It is likely to be a 16+ or 18+ set, so an adult aimed toy.
  13. I think it will sell very well, although not necessarily at the price it is. It really depends what comes with it in terms of animals and figures. Of course we'll never know how well it sells but it wouldn't surprise me if it goes out of stock early on after release. I think that would have been a step too far. Ending up with two very small builds (half the size of this one), at least one of which has nothing to do with the original submission, would not be faithful to the original idea.
  14. They've done this before after series 3. It was a bit of a failure . Maybe it was too close to the original series. I hope they don't re-release CMFs as the printing these days is so much better, plus the use of dual moulds and so on for legs and arms is a real enhancement. I'd prefer they continue to release similar figures where they think there is demand. For example, they recently released another diver, which was also a character in series 1. Similarly we have had new versions of zombies, cheerleaders, native Americans, ninjas, astronauts, robots, etc.
  15. Where is the rumour "aimed at girls" from? There is a boy and a girl in the one advertising picture in the NZ catalogue. Is this "for girls" coming from the speculation on stonewars that it is minidoll based (which doesn't mean it is aimed at girls). It seems incredibly unlikely to me that LEGO would do a new music theme with Universal based on modern technology with apps and scanning tiles and so on then exclude 50% of the buying population by aiming it at girls. I imagine it will be aimed at kids. Not boys. Not girls. But both boys and girls.
  16. "Unlikely to be for sale" rather than "never going to be". I have bought loads of licensed parts over the years. Things are not as good in the past here, but licensed parts do still slip through. But nothing as good as the 5p Ghostbusters torsos and free heads back in the day.
  17. Does it have to be a 1x wide slope? As there are better technic bricks with axle holes that will hold the axle more securely plus you can use an axle with a stop end to stop it pulling out.
  18. I also think it looks good, at least parts of it. I would have preferred more dark brown to keep a similar vibe, plus dark brown is harder to find than reddish brown. I'm fine with the size and the roof, although I'd replace the green with a darker blue and will probably swap out the lighter blue too. I'm not sure the "kid's toy" argument works any more for these sets since they seem to be going for 16+ and 18+ these days so they are not kids toys. The old fishing store submission was closer to a normal finished set though, so the smaller number of changes make sense there.
  19. You can buy some virtual wallpapers or colouring sheets!
  20. I don't mind the scaling down, and I like the redesigned roof but I would have preferred that they kept the wood dark brown and also with the woodgrain print.
  21. I find advent calendars are the worst, not for missing pieces as such but the wrong sets, so one missing and one extra duplicate set. I part out typically 20-50 a year and I seem to have at least one problem every 15-20 calendars. Last year (2019 versions) I had 20 HP calendars and there were three different errors in total.
  22. I don't like the surfboard as a door. It was understandable in the original submission and looked OK there but in lowering it, it now looks like a surfboard attached to the side of a car. Especially when paired with the beach scene (although there are no surfing waves).
  23. It is incorrect as bricklink is not a store, it is 1000s of stores. Some bricklink sellers might be the cheapest for some parts, although other sellers will probably be the most expensive. One store can be good for some parts but expensive for others. It is also worth checking lego's own services for new parts especially, as they might be cheaper than bricklink sellers.
  24. I'll add another: best re-release, Saturn V. I agree with most of the big ones, I didn't buy a single City set this year and so can't comment there. I thought minifigs were slightly weak this year compared to previous. The centaur addition is nice but I already have similar brick forge parts from years ago and lego haven't really innovated there. If they had done movable back and front legs so it could be posed it would be a definite winner.
  25. You can download the build steps and buy the parts through bricklink .
