Model team return petition
Front replied to Buttons's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't see that many more smooth and round pieces in 2006-2009 creator sets, compared to model team sets of the ninitees. I see absolute zero <insert that tiresome argument> pieces in these creator sets. -
This was the first powerminers set I got, and I simply think this set is outstanding because: Rock Monster, love them. Play value against price. The fine new roll-cage and slope with slots. Compared to the two other smal powerminer sets, this one is way the best.

I think this set is really nice. Considering the rather small size it has really realistic functions. Add to that the lovely threads, which was introduced with this set. I've no idea why I haven't picked up this set yet, as I've looked at it several times in store at a bargain price. After this review I will surely not miss another chance to buy it, should I see it again on sale. Your pictures of the different subassemblies are really nice, and as you note, show some of the rather neat and compact builds. And look at the last two pictures of the bike from the top and bottom. Really a smooth design. -

A Dutch tuner company (Nico Bakker) made a bike based on a Honda CBR 600, featuring a single sided telescope fork. Instead of tubes the bike had a rectangular slider with roller bearings. I think the technic set look like a design like this, although the Bakker bike had the fork on the other side of the front wheel. Nico Bakker Bimota has been doing "centre-hub" steering for many years, and I think the picture shows the newest generation of this Bike. Their alternative front suspension bikes have always been named TESI. When you pull the rod above the svingarm (done by steering input) the wheel rotates about an axis. This axis is not perpendicular, but inclined at an angle, similar to the angle on a front-fork bike. This angle is determined by a rather complex shape inside the hub. A relative easier thing to do in Technic, must be the double-wishbone type of front suspension, like on the wonderfull Britten V1000. Britten BMW has a similar design on a single of their bikes. The mechanism is basicly the same as in the front wheel of a formula one car. -

I love this bike very much, it was my second technic set I built, following a Ferrari F1 1:10. I got the set at a very low price, and now I just sit back and wondered why I did not bye four sets, because the wheels are so cool with a fat rear. Would be lovely to have this official one besides three moc's with the same wheels. Thx for the reviev, very detailed with building steps. Front -

Yes, the steering in both models are done by two "cone gears wheels" Black Technic Knob Wheel. The output gear wheel is connected through a cross axle to a liftarm Liftarm 1 x 3 with 2 Axle Holes and Pin. That liftarm pulls the front of the 6-module beams (7 holes) to the side, which then turns the wheels. The complete front axle assembly is a parallelogram, being skewed by that liftarm, which in turn is rotated by the 4-teeth gears. Hope it makes sense, although a picture or drawing would be better Front -
Technic sets from 2009
Front replied to legomilk's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If there were to be a Technic/Mindstorms forum, I may have to build some of the sets I got boxed, and post some picture reviews. Front -
Not everyone at Lego get a minifigure as buisness card. Not even people like me in development. Well if I asked the right people kindly, I could probably get some. I saw them first at a desk two meters from my own, a bag full of probably more than hundred minifigures like shown in the first post (but with other name offscourse). Front

I have a limited knowledge on the different materials used for Bionicle elements, so I'm not really able to give a straight foreward answer. Some of the pieces could be made transparent, like we've already seen with ball-cups in the form of e.g. beams with two ball cups (arms and legs). But other elements like a torso with balls are made of another material that really is not suited well for being made transparent. But anything is possible and transparent torso too, although prize and functionality may not be very desirable. Front -
Best: Technic construction-vehicles Creator Bionicle Worst: Galidor I like Bionicle, technic and systems. I like the minifigure too, although it doesn't really fit perfect into the system building design. Front

I always photograph my models with the "paint with light" method. 1: Dark room 2: small flashlight 3: Camera (DSLR) on manual (M) set to maybe 30 seconds and apperture f/9 and often Iso 200. 4: Timed shutter firing after 2 sec after I press button (also "mirror up" method, minimizing shake) 5: Now paint where I want my lightning, moving flashlight round and "hitting" the model from different directions during the exposure. Yes, I saw Keld Kirk Christiansen there today too, while I was standing at my spot at Bionicle. I had my camera over my shoulder, but when I decided to take a picture of him over at Lego Charity, he was suddenly gone. What I'm dissapointed about, is the Copmike did not have his picture taken standing beside other very prominent Lego peeps Was two fun days for me, but very hard on the feets too, standing most of the day at Bionicle. It was a big mess of children building terribly coloured mocs and disassembling the fine sets we put up in the morning. Sunday afternoon I told the kids they could bring home the creatures they put together themselves at Bionicle. That surely made a lot of kids glad, but also meant that kids were building there right up to 5 pm. Was great to have a talk to the few EB people i stumbled over (Copmike and KimT outside A5 entry) I took some time saturday after closure, to photograph some of the fan creations. Some really impressive ones. Got my tiles and minifigures too, and some powerminers polybags.

In the future you'll see fewer box sizes that is better suited for shipping. It saves transport cost and the enviroment. But boxes will probably not get much smaller. Imagine if all boxes at a given price point was half the size of what competitors have on the shelves. Unless mums buying toys have a good knowledge of the different toys, they will probably not pick the smaller box. Front

Looks great Kim. Look foreward to collecting these pieces, hope there are still some on saturday. At the office today we had a phonecall from the "staff" at Bionicle in parken, and were told: "Bring more sets" So me and a designer headed down and collected as many as we thought we could carry with us to Copenhagen. I have 15 sets I need to bring, and I'm not sure I can assemble them before I arrive. Maybe I can just tell some kids to build them with me at the event :-) Really look foreward to this weekend. I will bring my camera and photograph some, probably before 10AM or after 17PM, when there it is less crowded. Front .... edit now thinking of it, why not assembly 12 sets in the train between Kolding and Copenhagen. Travelling in trains is otherwise quite boring.

The parts here are, as described on BZP, test pieces done with the production moulds. I just had a look in the shelves with all these goodies, and some of the pieces are very beatiful, like torsos with transparent balls, mahri tubes in varies colours etc. I hope we at Bionicle can release way more elements in the future with the two-colour scheme, that is, co-injected elements. It would really be cool to take some of the always one-coloured elements, produce them in varies two-coloured versions, and release a 250-pieces box full of goodies. One of the parts I really love is the black and gold version of the Phantoka arm 60896. This was the first element I did part design on at LEGO, back in february 2007. To see a plastic bag filled with these elements in black-gold brought a smile to my face. Front -
My brother tried to book yesterday, all days are sold out. Dennimator, I hope you were able to get tickets. Did you reach a payment page with credit-card info to be entered ? I don't know "billetlugen", but if you did not reach the payment page, I think you are out of luck. Front

I complained some while ago about the lack of clever use of system elements combined with technic/bionicle. Your work looks just great. Nice use of the to red colours. Front

I had the chance to play a couple of the games at Nürnberg, and had the rest more or less explained to me. The one I spent most time with was Minesaurus, a maze type of game. Looks promising. The number of games seems like a lot, but with the limited release in UK an Germany, TLG is testing the market. The visual appearence of the boxes are quite cool, I think they will surely grab attention in stores. All the games have rules, but ofcourse you can add and modify rules to make the game more interesting or complex. I think the really cool thing is that being built with bricks, you can just add your own and make the game board design bigger or just different. And why not just play the games with minifigures on a bigger plate ? (for the games that use plates) Endless possebilities. Front

As seen on www.legoworld.dk there is an area with fan creations. I think all moc's and similar from fans have already been sorted, meaning you can't bring your own. I think the fan creations are very big and/or highly skilled, but that's only my guess. I'm not sure what a PaB is. Try and personal mail Ras and ask him if he already have a date in mind for a get-together. Front

A minifigure is 4 bricks high (without headgear). Let's call a height of a brick "BH". Now BH is related to knob distance KD by this equation: 5*BH = 6*KD Let's say we suppose a minifigure is 1,7 meter high (5,57 feet, as 1 meter = 3,28 feet). That means that distance between knobs "KD" is: KD = 5/6 * 1,7 / 4 = 0,35 meters (1,16 feet) Front

It was actually discussed here on EB maybe half a year ago. Definately different moulds. I have no idea how many torso mould have been made during the last 30 years, but some of the earlier must have been made without 3D CAD models, and must have been milled with a "copy-machine" from a physical prototype.
