  1. Are the front wheels on power puller rims, or the same rims as 8110 / 9398 / 42000 ?
  2. You can do this if you do this.
  3. I've been waiting for it to be cheap on amazon or similar, but it hasn't really gone down at all. Might have to wait until 42030 comes out.
  4. You can build it with just one small turntable, with a little ingenuity; I did (The red one a few pages back).
  5. I made a red one! I've made a few modifications to accommodate for the parts that I didn't have. I could have matched it a bit more closely if I'd done it in yellow, but I'm kind of sick of everything being yellow. I didn't have enough tiles to achieve the smoothness in the original but I don't mind the look of the exposed pin holes. The most notable modification is the use of a regular battery box, which was surprisingly easy. The engine cover is just one stud longer and theres a slight change to how it attaches, but nothing tricky. There must've been a lot of extra room in there with the rechargeable one. All in all it's a wonderful MOC. The build was challenging; I kind of liked how the instructions don't have to be kid friendly like TLGs ones, so sort of just show you how it should be put together without always showing every tiny step. Many thanks for producing the instructions, it's much appreciated. This is really the first time I've been able to build someone else's fairly large-scale complex MOC with the parts I already own, and I enjoyed the experience. It's fun to play with too! (As an aside, I didn't realise until after I'd finished it that the front IR receiver forms the driver's seat. Nice touch!)
  6. My phone (Samsung Galaxy s4) has an ir thingy built in. Is there an Android app that can control the pf receivers?
  7. Do the back wheels fall off? They don't look very well secured...
  8. Awesome, there's onei can swing by on the way home. Thanks.
  9. Hiya. My son't just had his brithday and ended up with $75 from his grandparents to spend on whatever he liked. He had a look around the lego website and decided that 60009: Helicopter Arrest would satisfy his needs nicely (in terms of a destination for the chase that begins at the museum in 60008) The postage at $30 is a little steep, but Wifey and I figured we could cover the difference if we could find it at or near the RRP of $79.99 in a shop somewhere. No such luck, however. I haven't been able to find it at any of the big department stores, in specialty toy stores, on eBay being shipped from within Australia, or even on any of the European amazon sites. Brickset says that it was released in the US, UK and Canada last December. Is it available in Australia anywhere other than S@H? Is it going to be?
  10. Those are added to hold it straight, so that the front and back suspension are aligned. You'll remove them later.
  11. This looks fantastic. I can't wait to build it. I'm getting the 42009 soon and plan on building the official model first soi can appreciate all the changes you've made. One small comment though: I'm not sure what software you used to make the instructions, but does it have an antialiasing option? Because if it doesn't, it should. I find the jagged edges on all the lines a bit distracting. Other than that, superb work.
  12. Now we just have to wait for someone to put one of the container trucks on eBay...
  13. Wherever I have the choice, I always put the round end 'outwards', solely for purposes of aesthetics. And there's other little things, like when two of them are adjacent on the same shaft putting the notched ends together, and if they're near crossblocks or pins-with-bush making sure the slots line up. But that's just nitpicking. I wasn't aware of any friction differences.
  14. An update: It's been delivered! But I'm at work, so my wife's just sending me text messages about how she's touching it and I should be jealous. Which I am.
  15. The pallet has arrived in Australia and I should be getting mine today, happy face.
  16. it could be that said pallet has already arrived. perhaps they waited until all the orders were made to get the right number, speed a container from billund last week, which has now arrived at some Australian distribution centre, and we'll have them in a couple of days. I hope.
  17. Yes! Mine got marked as shipped just this afternoon. Not sure if that means it's been shipped from Denmark or from somewhere down Under. The tracking number doesn't reveal anything yet.
  18. So, have any Aussies had any progress on their orders? I ordered mine on the 1st of August pretty much as soon as it was available, at about 15 minutes to midnight GMT. It's had a status of "In Process" ever since then. I'm a little worried about the extra scrutiny that first orders get. It's not my first order, but it's my first order since I moved to Australia from the UK, and I changed the country setting in my account a few days before I ordered in preparation. I just hope they've put it aside for me while they go through whatever process is involved. There's a known scam where the scammer sells an item they don't have on eBay or wherever, receive payment via paypal, then purchase the item with a stolen credit card number direct from the retailer and have it shipped to the "buyer's" address. Then when the credit card is charged back, they've still got the money and the poor sod who "bought" it ends up with the stolen goods. I think Lego is often a target of this kind of stuff, and I guess the anticipated demand for this set might lead to more cases, hence the extra scrutiny. Or not, just speculating really.
  19. Depends on your budget, but I'm assuming you're an adult and have a bit of disposable income. Typically you get a lot more from a few larger sets than you would from buying several smaller sets of the same total value. If you'd asked 24 hours ago, I'd have said to go for the 41999 Boss Crawler, and if you live near a Lego store, I'd suggest you give them a call and see if there's any left in stock. 4 Motors of various types, remote control, lights, big wheels, lots of opportunities. If that's not an option, I'd recommend the Unimog 8110. It's what got me out of my dark ages a little over a year ago. There's only one PF motor and no remote control, but there's oodles of parts, including pneumatics, big wheels, and again, lots of opportunities. Also, it's probably not going to be on sale for much longer, after which it's probably going to get a lot more expensive. After that, probably the 9398, which has almost as much PF stuff as the 41999, and the same chassis. Or the new 42008 or 42009. But honestly, it's probably best to get one big set, see what you can do with the parts, and when you find yourself thinking "Gee, I wish I had parts so that I could do X", base your next decision on that.
