I don't think they would release a brand new Orc print in a polybag unless it was released alongside a set that also had the new print. That, or they could mix and match existing pieces already released to create a "new" orc polybag similar to what they did with the Mirkwood Elf poly. I wouldn't mind some of the goblin pieces from the Goblin King Battle set being used and mixed with Mordor Orc pieces to give us a seemingly new orc minifig. Slobey did a great job demonstrating the different possibilities you can get just by mixing and matching the Mordor Orc and Goblin pieces several pages back. The problem is the Mordor Orcs currently only have one face print (not double sided), one hair mold, one torso, and one pai of legs if you don't include the loin cloth print from the Warg Attack set. That's a total of... 2 different options! That's very, VERY little variation considering how varied the orcs look in the film (almost every one is different). Then to make matters worse we get the Uruk-hai armor pieces in the upcoming sets for the Mordor Orcs. Talk about lame. Meanwhile with the Hobbit sets we got about 10 different possibilities just from the two sets they are included in. Also I am not saying the orcs don't make sense in the Corsair Ship set because they totally do. It just sucks they look nothing like the orcs in the film, and it also sucks the Corsairs could of been the second most interesting minifigures in this set and really help boost sales yet we only get 1 of them and instead get more Gimli, Aragorn, and Orcs with the same old printing that we already have plenty of.

Right, I get that Lego is probably trying to cover as many smaller scenes as possible with this set. The fact we get orcs, undead, AND a Corsair should be proof to that. The thing is though, the set doesn't even include any docks or harbor and the orcs are the exact same printing we already have in 3 other sets despite in the movie their armor looking NOTHING like they do in the set. Also, we probably won't EVER see another set where Lego can include Corsairs, unless it's a battle pack, so why not include at least 2-3 Corsair while you can instead of even more orcs we already have gotten plenty of (and no doubt will get plenty more of). It just seems like Lego was confused which direction they wanted to go. If it's on the Corsairs (like the brick built center piece would lead us to belieave - a Corsair ship) why not include more Corsairs? If on the harbor why not some docks or something and some orcs that actually resemble their movie counterparts? Heck, Lego could of even removed Gimli (like I suggested before since he is in so many sets already) and added another Corsair or two. I bet the set would of been an even bigger hit than.

There is so much to love in this MOC! Like everyone else has already said, the trees and icebergs look amazing. I also really like the hut though, as well as the Hobbit dwarve hair on the wizards and the wolf Chima heads. It all adds to a very great feel.

It wasn't too bad, at least compared to buying the full set at retail. Even if I had gotten them all at 25% off, I still would of paid at least 10x what I did for everything I wanted on BrickLink! Now, if Lego would just make some LotR/Hobbit battle packs, THEY could of gotten all that money! Hopefully I will have time to update my collection in the army pic thread later this week or next once I get everything.

General Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Questions
Deathleech replied to jmagaletta's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I agree, I don't really care for the Goblin King set but I think it's more so because of the source material, not the actual set itself. I mean sure the set could of been a little better, but in the movie all we really see is a bunch of ropes and bridges way up in the air as the dwarves try to escape so I imagine that's pretty hard to replicate the feeling of in a Lego set. It doesn't help the Goblin King himself looks a little ridiculous (and acts even worse in the movie: a fat, grotesque... flamboyet goblin, what the HELL?!?). I will say it was nice to get 3 totally different goblin minifigure prints, and it had some fun features like the bridge collapsing and the seat for the goblin scribe, but other than that the set was a let down (another Gandalf and probably the least interesting dwarves were in the set save Nori). I completely agree with this. Lego Weathertop had the overall look, but some things in it just didn't make it feel like Weathertop at all. Flick fire missiles inside and a trap door? Really? Why not have a play feature that had to do with the fire and burning the Nazgul? Instead Lego put in a totally random play feature they use in tons of sets but it made absolutely no sense at all. I know Weathertop is too big to conceivably create in minifigure scale, but I would of rather seen more emphasis on the top part where they fight and less inside. Same, it's the minifigures for me. Maybe that's why I seem to be easier going with the set builds than some. I just view it as extremely hard to make official looking custom minifigures, where as I can easily get a bunch of existing bricks and build a set or add on to it if I am not happy with what's available. The set was pretty high at 14 cents per piece, which didn't help make it feel like a good deal, not when most the other LotR sets are around 10 cents. Really it should of been a $49.99 set. As is I view Attack on Weathertop as one of the worst sets from wave 1, it seems like Lego banked heavily on the Nazgul alone selling the set. It would be awesome if it did, but I have a feeling it won't unfortunately. It seems too long to fit in an Orthanc they might build. -
Very nice MOCs. The first is more of a tower than an actual castle though, no?

Frodo's Cooking Corner is STILL available at TRU.com and I see them in stores every time I go. I wouldn't exactly call it rare or hard to find unless you are in a country that it straight up wasn't available in (in which case you can still get it on BL for around $2+ shipping for just the minifig, or under $4 for the whole poly). Plus, Frodo is in several other sets, albeit in a different outfit. Gollum technically IS exclusive to each set, but it's such a minor difference it's really hard to justify calling him exclusive. Wider eyes and slightly more opened mouth isn't exactly a must buy for him, both figs looks sinister and evil.. very Gollum-esque.

I strongly disagree with you. First off the minifigures in Gandalf Arrives and Riddles for the Ring are available in numerous other sets. Most of those sets have a lot more going for them too (other exclusive minifigs, more interesting designs/locations, etc.). If you are looking at it from a purely minifigure perspective there is next to no reason to buy Gandalf Arrives or Riddles for the Ring. As for the builds, Gandalf Arrives is also really poor imo. The wagon only fits one character in the front and doesn't fold down in the back. It has some fun pieces and is a fairly cheap way to get the new horse, but that's about it. As for Riddles for the Ring.. it's a rock that flips out a ring and a tiny, ugly boat. I am sorry, but that's beyond boring to me. Sure Mines of Moria is missing a few walls but it still captures the essence of the scene nearly perfectly. You get a great mold of the Cave Troll and all the important features from the movie scene (skeleton falling in the well, tomb flipping, pillars crumbling, etc.). Not to mention its one of the few sets actually done to minifigure scale and not scaled down to ridiculous proportions. I think people just like to bash on it simply because it's not a fully enclosed set and as such isn't t the best for display.

Well it wouldn't be if Orthanc had more major characters that could be included in the set. Unfortunately it doesn't though, and the only named character that would fit and we have yet to see is Womrtongue. We have already seen the orcs released in multiple sets, Gandalf the Gray in several, Saruman will be in the Wizard Duel, and Lurtz was in the Orc Forge. We could maybe get the Wild Men, but considering they see like 3 seconds of film time I doubt it. Personally I would rather get something like Minas Tirith where we could get TONS of new exclusive figures not yet released in any other set. The possibilities are near endless. Faramir, Eowyn, Denethor, Pippin in Gondor attire, the Witch King, Gothmog, Mountain Trolls, Gondor Soldiers, etc. I also think a Minas Tirith would have a lot more play features and would look more visually appealing. Of course this is all just my personal opinion, but ya. I will say if they included the Ents the Orthanc set could be significantly more appealing to me personally. If not it's basically just a tower with little minifigure appeal which while cool, isn't the most interesting in the LotR franchise (at least imo).

I said we know we will get one more Hobbit line because it's been confirmed. A third wave after that based on the last movie hasn't been confirmed yet, though it is more than likely. I just wonder if the license Lego bought will still be going by the time the third movie is released considering when they got the license only two movies were planned. If it expires and the lines not doing terribly well they may not choose to renew it, though I hope this isn't the case.

General Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Questions
Deathleech replied to jmagaletta's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The two sets I would steer clear of are the cheapest one from each wave which is Gandalf Arrives and Riddles for the Ring. The only real reason to buy these is if you are a completion, otherwise they offer nothing new that you can't get in another, more interesting set (except a slightly different expression on Gollum). An Unexpected Gathering would also probably be my choice. If you wanted something a little cheaper, I think Shelob Attacks is an excellent option. I originally had very little interest in this set but after getting it and building it Shelob proved to be a really neat model with a lot of play value and articulation and really impressed me. I also really like Wargs Attack and Mines of Moria for the unique molds and minifigures, though I know they aren't terribly popular with others due to their somewhat lacking building component. -
We already know there will be at least one more Hobbit wave, and Orthanc is also very likely sometime in the future, we just don't know when for sure. There was a display at Toy Fair stating "the adventure continues" for the Hobbit in December 2013. After that is unknown. If I had to guess, I would say we would get at LEAST one more LotR and Hobbit wave next year. It's just hard to imagine Lego not doing ANYTHING Gondor-related, or doing a Balrog/Ent/Witch King on Fel Beast. These are all such big climatic scenes in the films and would be huge hits among kids and AFOLs alike I would imagine. I would prefer Minas Tirith, unless Orthanc comes with Ents. While it's a nice looking tower, we already are getting Saruman and Gandalf in the Wizard Duel. That covers a nice chunk of the Orthanc-related minifigures and a good piece of the interior. There really are no other special/exclusive characters that could be in Orthanc besides Womrtongue. I dunno how likely Ents would be with an Orthanc set either since each Ent would increase the price by roughly $10-15 depending how big they are made.

I picked up more 4 gray Wargs, 6 Orc Hunters, 10 Hobbit Goblins, and 10 more Rohan soldiers off BrickLink. Now to just wait for them all to arrive!

Wouldn't it be to early for that to be shown off? I thought they just announced the results from the last CUUSO review not even two months ago is all?

Most of those just seem like battle packs with different names and slightly different minifigure combinations katy..? Lol? Exactly. Remember the main Lego audience is children. If there is no movie or television series to keep them interested in the line they will quickly forget about it and move on to something else. They aren't hardcore fans of the series for years or even decades like us AFOLs going on little more than books, if there isn't something to constantly make them aware the line exist and keep them interested they are going to go buy TMNT or Star Wars or whatever else they may see on TV instead.

This is definitely on par with Eurolocks MOD. That's saying a lot considering it's one of my favorite MODs. I really like that you increased the size of the walls and started adding the rocks/mountain to the left side of the keep. If you have the pieces, I would make the long wall even a few more bricks tall though considering the "official" walls are so pathetically short. Also, I really like the way Eurolock did the stairs curving around the main keep on the side, the inside great hall, the caves below, and the top level of the keep from the outside.

That's the thing, some of mine have it while others do not.

I know Bridge Direct currently holds the action figure license for the Hobbit. I dunno about LotR, but I can't see Lego buying the action figure license for it even if no one else currently holds it. If Lego did that, they would also need to buy the construction license (what they buy for all their licensed products I assume). Why would they buy anything else BUT the construction license when their whole company is based around construction toys? They aren't gonna buy the action figure license just to release a few battle backs with no building pieces when they can EASILY just get the construction license and make a battle pack that include a small brick built catapult. It just makes absolutely no sense to spend the money on from a business standpoint.

That would help with some of the figures who just have head caps, but unfortunately the neck piece wouldn't work for a number of others still like the elves with their long hair or anyone wearing armor. It looks like the eagles are going to be carrying most minifigs by their hand.... Unfortunately they will never release a set like that. Just read Lego's response to the CUUSO page you linked and you will see why, it would be the same response for a LotR version: "This is a (very) fun concept, but since we have the construction toy license and not the action figure license for Star Wars, it will not be possible to release a set consisting solely of minifigures. If the Dark Bucket concept were to go further, it would need to include some significant brick-based model component to be considered a construction toy for licensing purposes." While I would LOVE to be able to buy a bucket of 50 Mordor Orcs in one fell swoop, it's probably not going to happen. The best we can hope for is a battle pack like the Lego Star Wars theme has, or another set that is an add for a building with a good amount of minifigures like with the Uruk-hai Army set. I would prefer this anyways, that way I can better pick and choose what minifigures I want and how many of each. I'm not stuck buying say 20 Rohan Soldiers like in your example if I only want 10 or so. It's still not a terrible price per piece at 11.5 cents. Not as good as Riddles for the Ring's 9.5 PPP, but still not near as bad as the 16 cents per piece you pay for Gandal Arrives. Like you mentioned, I would guess all the translucent pieces and the new molds/prints had a lot to do with the increased price. I mean we don't get Saruman in any other set, where as Riddles for the Ring had the same Bilbo in a few other sets and Gollum was the exact same other than his face printing. Other than that though there were no new pieces in RftR.

That's the thing though, NONE of my breastplates have had it before I got the BrickLink and Lego orders. That's over 80 pieces without it and now suddenly they are popping up. I have nothing else to go by since I was in my dark ages before the Lego LotR/Hobbit sets came out but I even checked all my Uruk-hai and none had this armor issue until now. I just found it really odd literally none of my pieces had this issue, and now suddenly every piece I get seems to have it. So it' is a common issue though, eh? I also found it really weird it was only on the right side (minifigure's left). Do we know what causes it, and is it preventable? Or is it just a flaw with the manufacturing/plastic?

Recently I order about 16 extra Uruk-hai off of BrickLink. After receiving my order I noticed all the armored chest plates all had a funky mark in them. I am not entirely sure what it is.. a defect in the mold, a stress mark, or something else? At first I was a little concerned I might of gotten a bad lot off BrickLink so I decided to turn to Lego's store and order replacement chest pieces. Well, after getting my order from them today I noticed they have the SAME mark on every one of the "replacement" chest pieces! I would think this is how they are meant to be made if not for the fact NONE of my older Uruk-hai chest pieces (around ~80) don't have the marking at all. I s this a newer mold making this mark? Is it because it's being shipped in the cold? Does anyone have any idea what's causing it? I find it odd it's only in the one spot on every chest piece and literally every one has the mark where as none of my older Uruk-hai did. Below are two pictures for comparison (sorry for the poor quality, was taken with my phone), the first are the good chest plates with no mark, the second chest is one of the werid distress mark ones.

Fair enough, but maybe Lego should just make the current longsword in a different color then? Perhaps the chrome color? I just don't see them investing money in a brand new mold when it only has a couple minor differences at the end of the hilt. They are so miniscule, especially in shrunken down Lego form.

I was hoping the Wizard Duel would only be $9.99 like Riddles for the Ring, but I guess it looks to have a fair more amount of pieces. While I wish there were more army builders this time around, and more sets in general, this wave does seem like it's great for getting new characters. We get Arwen, Gandalf the White, Mouth of Sauron, the Undead King and a few soldiers (all with different printing!), a Corsair, and of course Saruman. Saruman is probably my most wanted of the low as we now finally have one of the main two evils from the films. We also seem to get quite a few new molds and prints this wave with the exception of the orcs, who really could use some new armor or at the very least an alternate chest print. As those hoping for an Anduril mold, are you serious? Look at Anduril compared to the current sword... It looks EXTREMELY close to the current sword. All they could do is change the color a little, make the size a little bigger, and add some details to the ends of the hilt. I'm sorry but Lego isn't going to make a new mold for such minor difference.

Same here. The eagle should of been at least a third bigger than it currently is, and it also should of had more articulation like in the neck and/or legs. The orcs should of also had some new armor, not re-used Uruk-hai armor but all well. Overall this is the weakest LotR/Hobbit wave in my opinion. The sets themselves aren't terrible by any means, it's just a combination of other factors that makes me say this. There are only four sets (with a possible fifth later on) this time around, no possible army builders whatsoever, and some really random scenes that aren't terribly big in the films (looking at you Corsair Ship). I see myself buying one of at least everything like usual, but I doubt I will be buying multiples of any of these sets. I will probably just try to pick up a few extra undead and eagles on BrickLink or eBay and be set. It should be a cheap wave on my wallet at least.

There is a picture/video embargo on some Lego stuff. For LotR, it's until Easter 2013 so we may not be seeing any pics for awhile. This is why we didn't see any pictures for certain themes from the German toy fair, but were able to seet hem for other themes like Castle and Chima. This is what Joe had to say regarding the issuie (he is the photogopher of many of the pictures we saw):
