Review Review: 21103 Back To The Future Time Machine
SamBo replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I didn't like it at first, but this review has changed my mind. Still not happy about the AU$69 price tag though! Especially since it's such a small set!!- 207 replies

Very very nice! I made a SP1 SHIP a while ago, and I had a really hard time trying to find enough transred panels, and even then I didn't find anywhere near as many as you've used. You're making me want to make another SHIP now!

Tim, it was great to meet you at SBS. I took a couple of photos of this build which are on my flickr page. I'm not much of a photographer though. http://www.flickr.co...57633288280857/

Are Star Wars MOC Builders becoming a dying breed?
SamBo replied to HJR-Holland's topic in LEGO Star Wars
So many excellent points made. I agree, Star Wars Lego has been done to death almost, but there is still a lot to do. Different scales/colours and other variations on existing ships/vehicles/structures are a great idea, but I think a lot of creativity like that gets unappreciated by most of people. I once made an (almost) UCS scale x-wing, in red, as a joke being Red Leader's X-wing, and no one got that I was having fun with the build. All I got was responses like "You know Red Leader is just a squadron, his ship isn't actually red..." etc. People say they want things to stand out and be different, but in most cases they just want to see things reproduced exactly as they were in the movies, which then goes back to what others have said in terms of why bother MOCing when TLG has already made the ships pretty accurately? Also, this thread is on the frontpage of www.hothbricks.com also. -
Hi, I finished this a while ago but never posted it here. It's big and chunky. All five doors open and close. I haven't included a detailed engine-bay as I am intending on putting some LEDs in to light up the front and back lights and the engine-bay is where the battery box will go. Enjoy.

Thanks. I thought about the hands as I was posting the images. I think I'll redo them since I still have time. I thought that the streams were purple (a colour I don't have)? When I redo Mr Stay Puft's hands I'll redo the streams I think since they don't look too good. Was trying to get the effect of all four guys combining their streams into one big one.

You know safety isn't your priority when you have dual flaming exhausts right next to your laser cannons ;-)

My entry to the Microscale contest. Ghostbusters and Mr Stay Puft. Hopefully brickshelf will moderate the pics soon. In the meantime they're on my flickr page: That's meant to be a NY taxi down the front. Thanks for looking. Sam

I want to start off by saying how cool this competition is and I'm really loving some of the entries made by others! I wanted to make something using the old-style Duplo pig. When I was a wee little toddler this pig was my absolute favourite toy. Other kids had their blankets or their teddies etc, I had this. I couldn't talk properly (being only about 18 months old), but I called it "Iggy" (I had issues pronouncing "P" sounds). I once lost Iggy and it was the absolute end of the world for me. My mum couldn't find another one anywhere as it was no longer sold. Bricklink was a few decades away, but my Mum kept trying. She ended up calling Lego here in Australia and being the cool company they are, they sent us another Iggy. There's my "Nice-guy Lego Group story." Anyway, onto the build: It took me a while to work out what to build. It needed to fit the pig so it had to be reasonably large, and I wanted to try and steer away from the obvious choices of space ships and mechs etc. Then I thought of those big Chopper bikes I've seen on TV. I then thought of making a trike version to not only balance, but have extra room for sci-fi stuff. Here is the result, the Hog Trike: (brickshelf images may take a while to be moderated, in the mean time use the flickr link at the bottom) I made little slopes on the top of the chair to fit Iggy's feet. He sits in place quite nicely and doesn't fall out even if you drive the trike around. Since the pig doesn't have any movable parts I had to design the seat and handle-bars to hold the pig in place. What's this? retractable dual laser-gattling guns??? Thanks for looking. More pics on my Flickr page here: http://www.flickr.co...157632566514934

Also known as "I ran out of curved blue slopes part-way through the build" Nissan SilEighty in the colours of Impact Blue from the anime Initial D. I tried to take slightly better photos this time but I still have a long way to go in terms of photography. Here's the pics from my flickr page: Thanks for looking. Comments and criticism welcome. Sam.

I just finished my first decent car build in ages. It's a 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 in Lime (I'm a bit of a sucker for this colour!). Building the doors was horrible. I spent over 8 hours trying to get the right shape and have them open and close. I finally came across a pretty dodgy technique to make it work though, but at the cost of them being 3 studs thick, leaving less space inside. I managed to pull it off though I think. I'm really happy with the build and feel it's one of my best cars. Pics here on my flickr page (my other cars are there too). Better description is on my MOCPages: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/349811 Thanks for viewing. Sam

So I'm a little late posting this. I actually built it about a week ago, just didn't get around to posting it here. Minifig scale hotrod to replace Santa's sleigh. Pics here on my flickr: http://www.flickr.co...157632299092636 Brief description on my MOCpages: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/349292 A belated Merry Christmas to all! Thanks. I was trying to get the look of the big, raw engines sitting on the back of a tidy ship. I tried to give the engines a look of size and power with little regard toward appearance. I purposely mixed up all the different shades of grey available and evenly spread them around the engines. DraikNova, yup, that is what I was trying to achieve.

Thanks guys. I have planned to make either a ramp, or a lift (floor lowering) just infront of the main engines (roughly where the guns are). The brig sits pretty much dead centre, but I ran out of parts to do the rest of the interior (I want to do an arms locker and storage rooms). It's not meant to be a long distance craft so I wasn't planning on doing crew quarters. The roof piece from just behind the trans red panels up to the guns can be easily removed so I can still finish it. I was going to dismantle it, but I think I'll keep it for now and finish the interior properly. My issue is trying to find the room to put it! The wife does not want it on the dining table again :( hehehe

Hey guys, I recently finished my first SHIP. It has been the biggest Lego model I have ever constructed. Consisting of way too many parts (I didn't count to be honest), just over 1 metre long, with a wingspan of around 75cm and weighing approx 10-12kg. I was only 9 when the original Space Police theme was released, and then I only had one set (6886 Galactic Peace Keeper), but it was, and still is, one of my all time favourite sets. I've since bought a couple of other sets from the theme as well as many many many of the panels and decorated slope pieces used in the sets. The SHIP took me around 3-4 months of weekends and occasional evenings to build. A lot of time was spent constructing various parts, only to deconstruct and reconstruct differently. I had planned on a fully detailed interior as well, but I ran out of time for a show, and by then I was a bit over it. The Bridge is detailed though. Inside the hull is a brig with a working door (oooo exciting!!! :-P) and a few spots that hold the battery boxes for the lights, but that's about it. The roof of the main hull, and the roof of the bridge are both easily removed. The thing is solid as a rock too. Survived the 3.5 hour each way car trips, in the boot of my car, with minimal breakages. Pics are here on my flickr page: And if anyone's interested, there are some WIP pics here too (although I didn't take many): Here is one Pic. It's one of my favourites as it truly puts the size of the SHIP into perspective. The ship wasn't 100% complete at the time, but that's my 4 year old son posing with it (and he's not exactly a tiny kid!) Thanks for looking. Sam

Welcome mate! I was surprised at how many other Aussies are here too! And I agree with what others have said, having kids is a fantastic excuse for buying and building with Lego :-)
