  1. I'll just add that as a huge LOTR/Hobbit fan, I have absolutely no problem with the sets. As for the purpose of this thread, I think pointing out the obvious in Legos is alittle too easy to even be fun. I mean, I'm not complaining that the Star Wars Star Destroyer can't fit an entire legion of Stormtroopers or that the Avenger's Loki Cube Escape set features Iron Man even though he wasn't in that scene, so why mention that Gandalf's Cart can't seat two people?
  2. Just got my Hulk with my LOTR order I placed on Lego's site. Normally, I'd rather go to the local Lego store to avoid shipping costs, but with the figure being an added bonus, I felt I could spend the little extra on shipping. To some degree, I attribute the Hulk promo's success to how well Avengers did in theaters and to the pricing of the superhero sets - you could buy the two $20 (Loki Escape and Wolverine Showdown) stes and the $12 CapA set and get to the $50 you need to get Hulk. Pretty economic. Not to mentioned that the LOTR sets have been hitting in stores, as well. It seems like there were alot of option available that lead to the quick sell-out. I think the Star Wars promo would have been able to last the full two weeks with it's Star Wars only limitation and the fact that there was only one new Star wars set out - the UCS R2.
  3. Just got the Weathertop set in the mail with Frodo poster and the Hulk minifigure from Lego's site. Haven't had a chance to build it yet, but everything looks amazing. I spent alot of time looking over the horses and they are such a great update without being too advanced - meaning they still keep the Lego look. I like how the head and legs click into place when you rotate them, it seems like they'd be more stable that way. I was surprised that this set comes with a brick separator - I've only ever bought Star Wars, Harry Potter, some City, and some Castle sets, but never found one that had a brick separator with it. I also like the extra hole in the Ringwraith's cape to help it fold around their shoulders better. Hopefully, I'll have time later tonight to build it. The poster is huge. I hadn't expected something like a full poster; I just thought it'd be a mini-poster maybe just twelve inches square or something. This is actually full-sized. Apparently, it's numbered, but mine is partly smudged and not a low number anyway.
  4. I would easily buy that if it were a Lego set. Now I'm picturing this figure in red as a Shocktrooper.
  5. Those are the exact bricks I was thinking for the roof intakes. Very well done!
  6. Wow. That is so good. ES:Oblivion is easily my favorite RPG of all time and I really think you captured the scene at Kvatch very well. My only slight nit-pick would be to swap out the mounted Knight and maybe make a unique looking "hero" character maybe with different armor and weapons to lead the charge.
  7. I hate the price, but I really like the set. It was such a climactic scene from ROTS that I think I really have to have it. Plus, as mentioned, the office can be used for the ROTS Yoda/Sidious confrontation and you might even be able to use it for an AOTC scene if some of the figures are swapped out. Still the nice thing about Legos is that I'm in no rush to get this set, as it will be out for awhile. I can scrape together $90 in that time or wait for a sale or promo.
  8. I think it's just a sign of how popular Avengers is right now. Plus, Loki's Escape has three main characters in it for $20, while the next higher Avengers sets are $50 and $70. The smaller set makes for a good entry point.
  9. Not a sale exactly, but some Walmart stores are clearancing out the Harry Potter sets. I found: Hogwarts Castle: $90 (none were left) Hogwarts: $35 Knight Bus: $25 At that price, I would have grabbed a castle. Oddly, even though I've read that PotC are also being clearanced in some Walmarts, the one I was at had several sets that were not on clearance.
  10. Very well done. The lights really make it work.
  11. "Say, that's a nice bike." Really, it looks very good. Nice colors and the seated pose makes it look like it's going pretty fast.
  12. Hulk and Hulk Jr was not bad.
  13. Really great look. My only suggestion (and it's a small one) is that you might use a couple angled blocks on the back of the roof because it just looks alittle too flat compared to the rest of the vehicle. In movie pics of the Tumbler, the roof isn't completely flat, it has some small vents or raised sections. However, that's really just a nit-picking concern, as it's really a well done piece.
  14. Very well done. Interesting scene with the explorer having found an ancient ruined castle. I might suggest putting a spare animal or two somewhere around and maybe a skeleton lying amongst the ruins with some weapons or the like.
  15. I'd need more color changes before I could buy one. As it stands, it's just not enough to warrant a purchase with everything else that's coming out right now. Still, I'd say it's a good idea, Lego just needs to improve upon it alittle more and offer minifigures from multiple series.
  16. Another alternative to Special Edition sets would be a Ralph McQuarrie concept set. He did so much for the look and feel of Star Wars that I think any company handling the license for any length of time should at least make one item as a dedication or memorial to him. I know there was the bagged white Boba Fett, but I'm thinking Lego should make something bigger like a set of concept figures or design scene.
  17. I've not ever had luck with asking for info at TRUs. Either they tell me whatever I'm looking for is definitely coming in on the next truck (even when they don't take a moment to research my question, they just automatically give me that favorable response) or they tell me that it's not coming in and they don't know when they're getting it (again, not even bothering to check the inventory system or even pretend to pull something up on a comupter). In any case, I think these won't hit the US till later. TRU just did a small reset to accomodate the LOTR stuff, so I can't see them doing another reset just a couple of weeks later.
  18. Millions of people have read The Hobbit. We shouldn't filter conversation of this book just because there's a Hobbit movie coming out - if anything the movie should promote more conversation. Since The Hobbit and LOTR are all part of one world, intricately woven together, then it stands to reason that the thread should be likewise. Personally, I'm really looking forward to how Lego handles the Battle of Five Armies. That could make for the ultimate battle pack if they can fit a member of each army in the set.
  19. Impressive to see how good it looked almost ten years ago and then to see you top that. Well done.
  20. True, 30005 Stormtrooper was very similiar, but it was an "army-builder" figure, not a named character. If Hasbro has any concerns with Star Wars, it's going to be Lego infringing on those named, important characters. Hence why we have a Captain America set for $12 and the cheapest named character set for Star Wars is $20 At this point, I have to see it as others have mentioned - there's a tie-in with Disney here. Hopefully more single figures packs come out and are offered in more areas. Disney owns the Marvel license and they allow Hasbro to make action figures off of it, but probably have a good enough clause in there to allow Lego to produce sets like this.
  21. That would be a great way to get a full set of characters. My votes would be: Fantastic Four set with the Fantasticar and HERBIE (maybe even a larger set with Doom) X-Men in the Danger Room (or portion of) with a Sentinel Defenders set with Dr. Strange, Hulk, Namor (though I'm not really a fan), and Silver Surfer
  22. It sounds like this polybag is only available outside the US right now. I have to wonder if that has something to do with Hasbro and/or the rights to produce action figures. Is it possible that the action figure issue is different internationally? Just for comparison, the recent Batman jetski polybag was at least a set of some kind, while this is really a figure with and accessories rack. Just makes me wonder how these items get allocated. Very nice review, by the way.
  23. I see, thanks for that. I'll let you guys know which poster I get. I agree, I can't pay TRU prices. At that point, I'd almost feel like the poster wasn't free, since I'd be paying so much more over MSRP to get it in the first place.
  24. Honestly, I'm not worried about the Hulk pants issue - if they look as bad as it sounds, I can always just swap them out with something else. It'll still have the same effect of being classic Hulk.
  25. If anyone has ordered from Lego's site recently, can you tell me which LOTR poster you recieved? I placed an order earlier this week and was thinking about placing another next week to see if I could get a different poster.
