  1. Forgot to post this earlier, but last week I got my second Hulk from a purchase at Lego's site. I made the purchase on one of the last days of the promo, so it seems online they still had some left.
  2. There's the main minifigures section of the Lego site: http://minifigures.lego.com/en-us/default.aspx?icmp=COUSFR23Minifigures
  3. For anyone who has been to a Grand Opening, how early do people get there to wait in line? Are the limited exclusive sets gone in minutes?
  4. Aside from opening a sealed box, I don't think there are any ways for the CMF figures to be truely random then. If you buy from a store, they could have been felt thru already. If you buy online, they could have been felt thru already. So, really the absolute best way to know for sure that they're random in the first place is to find a new, sealed box - open that and you have the most accurate gauge. However, at that point, you might as well just feel thru the bags for a complete set.
  5. There's no difference in sets bought from one store to the next. It would be a logistical nightmare if Lego had to keep track of varing qualities of product going to different stores. Now the box gloss could be just an error, but not large enough to represent a trend or confirmed issue (unless other people from other locations also confirm the gloss). As for what's coming up next, is it possible Lego is just holding more news till SDCC? It's that time of year for alot of companies where news is spotty till SDCC and then we get flooded.
  6. I voted for Mines of Moria, because it's a favorite scene of mine and I think Lego pulled it off really well. The sticker issue isn't a dealbreaker for me. Gimli, Legolas, and Boromir all look great. Overall, it makes for a fantastic display.
  7. Hmm... I guess I would add in one other variable - returns. For example, I've read reports of people buying whole boxes of CMF from stores only to feel thru them at home and ensure a complete set. Then they just return the extras. One could do the same thing with an online order, since you're not opening the product, just feeling thru the bags. Major retailers who probably don't filter thru the CMF for the rare stuff probably also don't have a strict return policy. I know the point of the thread was really more of a math question, but variables exist when collecting a full set of CMF. The idea that they're random only really applies in certain instances.
  8. I wouldn't ask anything of him. I would politely thank him for all his work on the great stories he has written and all that he has provided to the modern Fantasy genre whether directly or indirectly and then let him go about his business. Not that I wouldn't be star-struck, I just wouldn't fell the need to ask or make him do anything.
  9. The licenses definitely provide a reliable revenue stream for Lego. For example, right now everything that is related to Avengers is very popular and Lego has a strong product out in stores. Especially when you consider that there is very little Avengers stuff at retail (from the stores I've seen) from other companies. Meanwhile, licensed Legos Like Star Wars have been going strong for over a decade. Lego has become one of those companies that I look to when a new movie comes out or a new IP develops. I almost expect that they'll have a hand in some of the major movies each year. Sure, they don't cover licenses that are based on "R" rated movies, for example - but they don't have to in order to hit their target audience. As for parts, I have to think that the licensed themes definitely contribute. Even if one is not a Star Wars fan, surely there is some piece that was made for Star Wars that one could find a use for. Basically, anything that adds to the Lego pile of useful pieces has to be a good thing.
  10. Starro at the end was priceless!
  11. I can see Lego carrying the Marvel license for a few more years. Avengers should be locked into at least three movies, with the next one being released in '14. Meanwhile, Cap and Thor are each getting sequels and there's talk of SHIELD, Hawkeye, and Black Widow getting a movie together. Plus, an X-Men First Class sequel. All of these add up to a huge opportunity for Lego. Meanwhile, I'm not so confident with DC. Their movies haven't done as well (TDK being the exception) and as mentioned their characters seem to be from a bygone era of comics. I think it'c going to be a tough climb for DC to get even close to Marvel's level at the movies. I bet the next few DC Lego sets will be for a TDKR and some comic related themes.
  12. Iron Man Mark VII (circle) is my favorite, followed by Thor. Both have great printing and look about as great as they possibly could. Cap could really have used a seperate piece for his mask.
  13. Very well done. The color shading makes the character easily recognizable and the pose is great.
  14. Those look amazing. I really like all of them. As for other suggestions, I'd look at Stonehenge (already mentioned) and possible Mt. Rushmore and the Pyramids.
  15. I'm fine with waiting on the reveal - I've got enough to catch-up with already. Lego is not my only hobby nor the only thing I spend money on, so I can use a break here and there. I'm in no hurry. I'd probably have to stop collecting the Minifigure Series if they came out once a month. That would involve too much hunting around at stores to feel thru bags to get a whole set. Working full time and being busy on weekends would leave me little time to do that. And we all know that the army-builders or favorite figures from a given set go the fastest, so time is of the essence with these. As for when to reveal, I like these short-reveals. It makes it alittle more exciting finding out that something you didn't expect might be coming out really soon. Again, these are Legos, they stay on the shelves for months at a variety of stores - I'm in no hurry. The LOTR sets just hit and I may not be fully done with those till close to the end of the year. Sure, I'd like to get them done sooner, but I can be patient and pace myself.
  16. I've seen open bags before. Usually they're either complete or empty - either the person took the whole thing or found out it's not what they were looking for and left it. Personally, I feel really bad for these people. I mean, I don't make a ton of money, but I couldn't resort to such tactics when trying to find $3 minifigures. My answer would be to just leave it. More than likely, the store paid less than $1 wholesale for it and would not be able to effect the problem anyway.
  17. I guess I just don't get it. Maybe it would be better if placed in the Single Panel Funnies section with some joke about being Death Star Jr.
  18. It's all in the details with this one - and it looks amazing. Easily one of the best MOCs I've ever seen, as it's loaded with great references and a full understanding of the material.
  19. Very recognizable. The floor looks great and the special effects are nicely done.
  20. I would recommend the gold C-3PO hand. And even adding R2 could be helpful. Still looks great, though.
  21. Minifigures: Gandalf the White, Eowyn (and Dernhelm), Arwen, King Aragorn, The Witch King, Saruman, Galadriel Larger figures: Battle Cave Troll, Sauron, Treebeard
  22. I'd have to agree that it's Hasbro. Kenner was pretty succesful, but Hasbro had to be the most successful having run the longest and putting out so much material.
  23. I'm sorry to sound negative, but the only real Star Wars element you have in that scene is Anakin's torso. It could use Anakin's robotic hand or at least the Droids to really pull in the Star Wars feel.
  24. I always prefer to get one of each set and then go back for doubles if needed. That way if something happens, at least I have a few unique sets, rather than just doubles of one.
  25. Definitely in for both, though I'll army-build the Uruk. Really hope this is a mass retail item.
