Even though they share similar properties, you still need to remember that her hair is curled. I don't think there is a reason why Disney's original 3D animated films can't be a Lego theme if they are high potential products. In other merchandise, both Merida and Rapunzel are considered Disney Princesses along with other classic 2D princesses though Vanellope isn', just like Kida and Eilonwy, which means Disney actually don't differentiate such things.

Future of the CMF as licensed characters
Dorayaki replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Even if TLC launch licensed CMF, I think not all licenses are suitable for CMF because it should be a "universe" that contains lots of characters because of it's long history or brand. Indiana Jones is alittle diffcult not only because there is no current sequel but not colorful enough (though maybe lots of usable army builders). Star Wars is okay, but TLC might not do that because they've used most of the main characters in regular sets. Toy Storys still have many unused popular characters, and human ones can be considered too. The potential licenses I can come up with are Disney/Pixar (for the sake of minidolls...), DC/Marvel Superheros, Harry Potter (if Rowling really has plans for spinoffs), LoTR, Avatar from nickelodeon. There are still some doubts and problems that TLC have to overcome if they really want to make such things. However, it's not good to neglect the good things in licensed CMFs and other consumers' needs. In rumors there would still be original CMFs created by TLC themselves. Yes, it would be frustrating if TLC stop making CMFs, but for now this saying isn't confimed. The best result should be both coming together. -
I don't think just beacuse most audience are children, it can mean that they have to be simplified while sets from other licenses don't. Kids have eyes and they can compare with either other Lego sets or the cartoon image. If there are needs to give young builders a try, just like you said, they should make starter sets and large sets together like what they did with Superheros. It could be less controversial if it's a Sofia the First, which is a new story introduced in different media. For Disney Princesses, it looks more like a theme for a wider range of ages, not to aim at children only. After all, Lego Disney are AFOL's dream too. It's unwise to turn them down flat. I'm not against minidolls, but I think it would become a negative market segmentation that doesn't allow common consumers or AFOLs to touch these "girly" things, unless minifigures simply dissapear and minidolls invade all generic and licensed themes, but it's also wierd because they weren't meant to compete each other. In the long run, I think TLC should still consider to make minifigure versions of the Disney characters they've made (and the Friends characters, like my Cuusoo project suggested) in any occasion like licensed CMFs.

As expected, Merida used Andrea's hair. Elsa Schneider's hair doesn't really look good on minidolls because it leaves too much forehead, and Olivia's hair looks better for Ariel. Anakin and Dastan's hairs are okay. Rapunzel's hair isn't clear for now, but she should use an exclusive long hair element. For the castle, it's alittle dissapointing in its size, because it doesn't look as big as other "castles" in Lego lines (e.g. the Casle theme ones, Vampyre Castle), which looks more real and magnificent, and it's definitely not a "dream-come-true" to Disney castle lovers. And I think there should be more characters in such a set, like Lady Tremaine, Mary or Godmother. Speaking of characters, the animals from the castle also look weird. The cat just looks like the one from Friends, neither Pom-Pom or Lucifer. The dog doesn't look like Bruno too. I don't think TLC would make a stupid mistake since they remember to put Pascal. Well, the tower doesn't look like a "tower" too but as a product it's okay to me. My biggest concern is not that princess sets look girly, but girly shouldn't mean "simpler than boys' or regular sets."

Usually MMORPGs are aimed at older players who would like to play as girls or accept cool female NPCs, so it's not surprising that they can handle it. Meanwhile, some sepcial female hair designs don't appear in physical Lego molds (only Kai's hair became real). Well, for me I'd like to see a "fighter" instead of "damsel in distress", so that doesn't count a better one. In Chima's physical sets, the problem is there are not many female minor warriors in the battlefront (like Crooler) so most of the minor sets still only include male fighters.

Purdue Pete is the one cloest to this statement I think. Yes, technically many projects in Cuusoo don't look like real product concepts (perhaps no marketing abilities or more like a theme), and some do actually have repetitive concepts (e.g. ToyRUs mini shop). But I think there are still some potential and creativity in the rejected projects. Some projects that show desire to get licenses don't have really good product concept, honestly. So far the two Zelda projects don't look suitable to Lego. So hope that TLC do really focus on products when they review more Zelda projects. If they are individual projects, they should be more polished and different as buildings, not generic shop sizes. I think the project focus on chain store size more than licenses. But it is indeed a problem in marketing when voters or potential consumers only buy one shop. The solution could be that selecting three different brands sold together (but more license payment). So, does it mean that other projects with individual license and building concepts (for example, the Apple Store in top 10) have better chances to succeed than mini shops? We're not sure.

Even that TLC made McDonalds many years ago doesn't guarantee to pass a Cuusoo McDonald project (after the last Happy Meal). I think at least it can be for the companies TLG are currently working with, like ToyRUs or BR.

Future of the CMF as licensed characters
Dorayaki replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I don't consider "army builder" one of the major concerns in the licensed CMF issue.Yes, original CMFs do give some generic torsos and accessories, but usually most trageted consumers didn't plan to have more than one of each, because many of them are after all unique characters, just like the licensed ones. To me the most important value of original CMF is their "originality". -
Nope. As mentioned: Similarly, creator of the Female Minifig project recommended three characters first in case that TLC wouldn't manufacture more of female minifigures in this project. I think they did think about it. In Cuusoo website, there are still some projects with single chain store buildings. They could be more polished than mini shops, but we still don't know if it can help them get passed.
-
That's what I said "TLG don't have to pay much license fee". So the question is can Cuusoo actually influence TLG's promotion plans? If it's a no, that means TLG didn't actually think or contact those companies to determine they'll do it or not.
-
They can actually do that like you say---- become marketing materials if the comapnies are willing to and TLG don't have to pay much license fee. In that way, these promotional sets can only be attained in their chain stores instead of common toy stores. Maybe it's just that the companies don't like the idea. We haven't seen McDonald's Happy Meal Lego toy since 2010.

UH.... no matter what, I think it's very boring to see so many projects get rejected which wasted seventy thousand votes, even though some pojects are obviously not suitable. For those who seemed to be an okay one at first, I think TLC are just adding more restrictions. Results of the Fall 2013 Review, according to our experience: ATLAS Mini Model : Absolutely the most tedious but only passed project. (no offense) Female Minifigure Set : Conflicts with current line. FTL – Faster Than Light : Conflicts with current line. Ghostbusters x2 : Either a bad business case, or couldn't get the license(s). The Road to OZ : Either a bad business case, or couldn't get the license(s). Poptropica : Too obscure game license. Disagree. It's contradictory because they just decided to make two more Minecraft sets but no BTTF theme plan. I can understand some inevitable license issues, but why can't we submit a theme plan if that could bring much profit to Lego? Or they could mention it in the guideline (theme ideas are OK, but note the following). And as I knew, the creator of mini shops mentioned the possibility that only one shop can be used if TLG doesn't want to make a subtheme. If they did compromise, they can choose the most popular or easiest license. So perhaps it's not the reason.

Future of the CMF as licensed characters
Dorayaki replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
As long as original CMF line (army builders) still exists, I don't mind having other kinds of CMF because it helps us get minifigures that didn't appear in their own licensed playsets. The success / stake is determined by whether their choice of license and characters is good or not. The question is, should we have protagonists in CMF line? I'm not sure about that. Previous CMFs aren't based on stories. If we make a Ninjago CMF and include Cole, Kai and Zane, it looks "licensed". Despite being rumors, if the characters are generic enough (not the story characters), they are still typical CMFs I guess. I still doubt if we really have to count license CMF as one of the part instead of a special edition. In a view of sales scheduling, if TLC still make series timeline overlapping like some past series did, it's okay to sell a licnesed and an original CMF series together. But that's nothing with series number I guess. -
Oh sorry, maybe I didn't get your word. Yes, the carriage and the tower are iconic parts I agree. I was saying that I hope the sets can be like other licensed themes than typical "Disney Princess Toy". Romantic scenes are okay (while some other stories that include romance don't show in othe Lego sets.) I hope "girly" doesn't mean that we can't really wish something like Merida's fight with Mor'du. Or maybe I'm too suspicous and the next wave would be much better.
-
Not for me. If those statements are true, maybe it interests me less since I'd like to see more iconic scens of these stories, not being too similar with other past princess-branded toys. I don't think "girly" should mean "no story".

I think Chima is a case different from traditioal action themes, which have a complete team consisted of main characters. It features tribal warroirs and only some of them take bigger charges. In gender ratio of total characters, I think female warriors are still few (at least one girl should represent each tribe), but in main characters I think it's fine. Another reason could be that this theme give little gender stereotype (no girl things visible on animals) so nobody really notice that. I like Eris. For Crooler, she's a great villainess but doesn't have too many battles so far. Maybe in the final series she becomes the final boss and confront her parents and brother when they decide to unite with Laval.

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Dorayaki replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
If bigger sets include the most important scenes from the movie, smaller sets mean that they give the smallest "spoilers". It feels like that these sets produced before the film are used to promote the film.- 2,626 replies

I guess construct-things fit in the needs that some people don't play regular Lego (buildings and minifigures). But when sales don't meet expectations, construct-things would become the last straw

My question is, does it mean that TLC didn't have any plan for Disney classic series / girls-oriented themes before minidolls appear? It's not a positive reason to make Disney minidolls. I like mninidolls, but we can't deny that minifigures are still the major part of Lego System and most people ask for them. I hope that TLC would have plans like Cuusoo Disney minifigures. The other question from me is, most products labelled "Disney Princess" we've seen seldom include characters besides princesses and princes (in other words, no antagonists, sidekicks, etc). At the same time, we usually use Lego to tell story, but these products are rarely based on scenes of fightings or actions. I hope that the series can continue with more stories or more scenes of the same story, so that we can see the diversity.

There are comics and novels about a group of girls hanging out and making merry---- but not vanquishing evil in adventure legends. We can see those Friends have different personalities, and the plot writers do know how to make different female characters rather than a typical love interest or trouble maker. It becomes even ironic that Lego represents imagination and creativity. As I said, the question is about TLC themeselves: are they sometimes pioneers of equality and maybe enducation, or followers of market all the time? From what they've done, I'm worried the answer is the latter.

I personally think we can find better and more classic colors for this restautrant. Still, I bet it's in the top 3 of all modular buildings, and better than the previous three ones.

Ninjago: Masters Of Spinjitsu TV Show Thread
Dorayaki replied to Lance's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
I think it's big dissapointment that Nya could had got a position in this team but still gets neglected by the plot writers, who are more willing to market Lloyd. In theory, Samurai X can get more forms as the ninja do. It's not really doing with the Samurai Mech.- 4,591 replies

Simpsons Collectable Minifigures aka Series 13 (non-official term)
Dorayaki replied to kasmca's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Maybe making 2 series every year can improve the quality of design. It's the range I can accept. Just hope that it's not ending up with a cancellation. Right you are! On my last trip I saw blind bag Mario's, my little pony, mega-blok, even hot wheels! and I'm sure others a well. Lego leads, everyone follows. If there is a good exchange market that prevents toys from being wastes, I believe blind bags can bring a new healthy competition. However, there are some I dislike as a fan of the themes (eg, Mario from K'Nex), who didn't really show the exclusiveness of blind bags. -

Suppose this rumor is true, it's dangerous for the first licensed CMF to be repetitive minifigure collections since it doesn't have a complete effect of promotion. Plus, more than quarter repetitive ones are way too many. I personally support exclusive figures since the consumers and TLC can still share a double win. I agree that not all people love sets, but still not all Lego characters are doing with CMF or we'll see more of the same thing. There is another way. We have 3 series every year so far. Suppose TLC simply add 2 licensed series and we get 5 series in total, it doesn't really harm. However it can only be confimed by the whole 2014 schedule
