No squid?! What's this about a changed ending? This is supposedly a faithful adaptation, why does it have a changed ending?! That makes me angry... Oh, and by the way, Peppermint, you've read the comics/novel, right? They're meant to be serious and adult-themed, so I don't see why the film shouldn't be. The Dark Knight is to movies what Watchmen is to comics. :skull:

How do companies get away with copying Lego?
Shoc replied to Shoc's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yeah, I suppose so. They have enough money to do it, so they can, and if it gives people work and helps crack down on copyright crimes, then it's good. Oh, OK then. If they didn't buy the rights until 1981, were they effectively stealing before?! Oh, no, I would do the same if anyone asked me about it now! I think the truth should come out, no matter how bad, and we can still enjoy our favourite toys despite their dark history! Hmm... I think this has been addressed now, but I see what you mean. Disney also copied Mickey Mouse, from real life mice! :skull: -
Yesssss! I was expecting a Pirate contest because I saw it mentioned the other day, but this was better than I expected. I never got around to doing my Pillage the Village entry, but I shall be able to do this one within the time limit! I love building rooms/interiors so I should get on fine with this. I'm already bursting with ideas. Thanks for the contest! :skull:

How do companies get away with copying Lego?
Shoc replied to Shoc's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Wow, Eilif, that is very strange! I share the same compliments. I never knew that Lego bricks had such a mysterious origin, I thought it was Ole Kirk's idea... I hope that man's suicide wasn't because of TLC's success over his idea. Oh yes, I never thought about the different government rules or attitudes. That's how Shifty still stay so shifty! I've seen that before, it made me laugh. Yep, it does. Thank you! That's odd. Wouldn't that cost a lot of money? I don't know why, but comparing a Lego brick to a ringbinder made me laugh... :skull: -
How do companies get away with copying Lego?
Shoc replied to Shoc's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thanks everyone for your input! Me too, it was Lego products that they had based their own products on! Ah, so many companies that there's always going to be products sold by small businesses looking for a cheaper alternative, right? At least TLC are fighting the companies, but I expect it takes longer because they have better things to do (like making products). True. If something is good quality or popular, there will always be impersonators. Other things just seem to vanish from knowledge because they aren't liked and didn't have any kind of legacy. Ohh, thanks. Yep, I've seen lots of "cola" products, and it's obvious where the idea came from. But an original toy product just seems a bit different than a drink in those terms, you know? Is there any way to renew a patent (I doubt it)? Personally I find the whole idea of Lego products to be a lot more original than Mickey Mouse, but I suppose you can't consider a useful physical design (like that of Lego bricks) to be a trademark... Yes... they want business rather than to promote fun and engineering. I think The Lego Company has a good stance on those points, they make good (and bad) business descisions to get more money, but they use the money to make good quality toys and designs. That's why they have succeeded. :skull: -
How do companies get away with copying Lego?
Shoc replied to Shoc's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Hmm, actually MB are Canadian anyway. But, I still wonder that too. I don't get how a patent can expire when the company still exists... So maybe MegaBloks aren't legally seen as copying TLC (even if they are), but what about other companies that make sets that are clones of Lego, or incredibly similar designs (e.g. Oxford minifigs)? :skull: -
How do companies get away with copying Lego?
Shoc replied to Shoc's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yes, and yes. I think it was Megabloks. I just don't understand how they can get away with it! :skull: -
Clone brands make either subtle or blatant copies of Lego products, so why is it that they are still produced?! It eludes me. :skull:

Gaah! The distorted music is really creepy, and so is the kid... but the Fabuland sets in the model aren't, that's the cool part. I shall start posting some Fabuland MOCs within the next month, but as I have no Fabuland sets or figures, they shall have a nice little twist... :skull:
-
Those are all actually the same as my pet peeves (though the Star Wars thing doesn't bother me too much)! Spooky... I suppose it's likely though, they are all annnoying things. :skull:
-
Nope... You're looking at the loading screen, you didn't press play. In the game you find map parts and coins in the pirate scenes, which is actually as dull as what you said. The graphics are nice though. Edit: Oops, Bluebeard beat me to it by a minute! :skull:

I agree. The great Alan Moore had no extra input in the film, as usual, but I think from the parts I've seen of it that it should bring the story across in the right way. :skull:

Wow! Not only are you great at making decals, you're really quick! Those are very very good, I like them a lot. Interesting bump instead of muscles! Hmm... it does look a little too dark, but it might not be. You'd probably have to test it first by printing it. Three of the "orange" colours on the second list look a bit more like the light flesh colour. :skull:

Ah, I love this MOC! My favourite parts are the roof of the shed, the lawnmower and the birdbox, though it's all great! I have to wonder where you got so many chocolate lolly pieces... The lawnmower design is really good, even if it isn't connected. The birdbox is ingenious, I may have to use that technique sometime if I ever make a garden of some kind! Really nice work benlego, and welcome to Eurobricks! :skull:

The graphic novel of Watchmen is actually my favourite book! I look forward to seeing an interpretation of it on screen. Unfortunately it will have to be a small screen rather than a big screen, as I'm a little too young to see it at the cinema. It's rated above my age because of the nudity, graphic scenes and adult themes. I'll have to wait for the DVD to come out! :skull:
-
Ehh... the graphics are good, but I completed it in about 3 minutes. It looks cool but it's not a very exciting game, it's too easy. :skull:
-
Wow, uh... that's odd. But in a good way! It's really cool and is the sort of thing I expected when I saw the title, a great model. Maybe it would look more Power Minerry with a little morre lime green, but it's still good as it is. What exactly would the dynamite be used for on a farm though? Haha, that would be great! Or maybe they could be fruit trees, like little ents! :skull:

Not for a long time though. Models at Legoland are usually on show for years and long enough for people to enjoy them! Legoland Windsor opened in 1996, I've been every year including and since 1996, and a lot of the original models are still there, especially the really big ones (like the Pharaoh is). :skull:
-
That would be good, but I don't think so. The Viking land at Legoland Windsor was completed in 2007, as the Viking theme ended. At least we know that there's an Egyptian themed Lego 'board game', but I think that's the most we will get for now. :skull:
-
Well, I look forward to it! Looks interesting. Yum, deep fried brain! :skull:
-
How about Wonder Woman or early Dick Grayson Robin (old style suit, from before official Lego one)? I'd be interested to see how those turn out! :skull:
-
That's... odd. I was in London on Saturday, obviously a bit too early to see it. It looks like a great model, very impressive! Couldn't they have had it lay down instead of standing up, open to the elements? Hmm... I look forward to seeing it at Legoland Windsor, the Land Of The Pharaohs section looks interesting from the poster I saw at Legoland, it's based on one of my favourites, the Adventurers Egypt subtheme (which is ironic as that was 10-11 years ago!). :skull:
-
Nice, I love your drawing style! Good work, I'm looking forward to seeing more. :skull:

For all older Member's who never introduced yourselves...
Shoc replied to Legoman's topic in Hello! My name is...
Nice topic. Hello, I'm Shoc (obviously). I've been here 1 year minus 1 day! Tomorrow is my first anniversary on Eurobricks. I like all sorts of Lego themes, especially those from the '90s, and more recent licensed sets like Batman, Harry Potter and Star Wars. My top 4 favourite themes are Batman, Adventurers (I want the theme back!), Space (LoM and previous, MM was a dissapointment) and Castle (esp. '90s sets). I have 800-2000 sets (I never counted them, but that's my rough estimate). My bedroom is completely full of Lego boxes, I had to put a couple in the loft yesterday but I'll bring them down again when my room is properly tidied to make space for my two new gerbils. I had a semi-dark age from November '08 - January '09, but it wasn't because I went off Lego, it was because of relationship problems and mock exams. I'm back into it now! I'm still a teenager (older than Legoman), I have exams soon and then I'll be going to college, but I'll have less subjects so possibly more time for Lego. I'm a passionate atheist (sorry Legoman). As you can see, I like to use smilies a lot, hehe. I live an only child with my nice parents at home in the south of England, and my name is Lexi. :skull: -
OK, sorry, I wasn't being impatient. I just thought of Indians being part of the Western theme, which I guess they are. I'll be sure to check out your other topic. :skull:
