I too also recently took the plunge back into Lego, and yes it is a big plunge. I also am a huge star wars fan with a few of the new sets, but I am really interested in the MOC buildings as well. So I am in a very similar situation and reading this thread now has given me a lot of insight too. There seems to be some solid advice here, something that is never lacking on these forums from what I have seen in my short time here. Just a quick note to the OP. Those pictures of your vending machine are excellent. I love how you created that and how you have applied individual stickers to each can. It has blown my mind as I would have never thought to do that. And that is the beauty of Lego, infinite possibilities. :) Well done there

Is Cuusoo too easily taken over by Rabid Fandoms?
Gory51 replied to David Thomsen's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sorry to quote myself here, but I am going to link something that shows just how fanatical EVE players can be. It is a bit off topic, but linked to Fanantical fans that we were discussing in Cuusoo so it is slightly related. The EVE in game ecomony is totally player driven. It is a single shard universe ( ie everybody plays on one single server wherever you are.) Actions like the one I am linking affect the in game ecomomy for everyone. A difference with EVE and other games is that if you are flying a ship and its blown up, thats it, that ship is gone with most of the modules you had fitted and the cargo you are carrying. Equipment in the game once destroyed is gone. You character is cloned , but you lose huge chunks of cash. Wars are fought to own territories leading to sometimes hundreds of players in a single battle tiogether. This continual destruction drives the economy as people need to earn money to replace ships, or buy new materials to build new ships. This creates a most interesting type of gameplay and anything is possible. Take a peek at these fanatics, and process the numbers involved. This will affect them all. EVE Drama -
MINI Mon Calamari MC80 Liberty-type Star Cruiser
Gory51 replied to Legostein's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I see in his links he does have a midi scale version, ;) I also agree with some grey and tan rather than white and tan colours, but this looks quite good for a mini. Those Mon Cal cruisers are certainly not easy to tackle with all the curves. -

If it was not for EVE online, I would not have gotten back into Lego. I saw the Rifter a while back when it was first mentioned on the EVE forums. I loved it, I followed the story. I had a "calling" to get back into Lego. I wanted that Rifter! I created an account on Cuusoo and voted for it. I also checked out some other projects and voted on a few that I thought were excellent as well.( Modular Western town, Space marines, and Winchester to name some) I started buying LEGO again, all previous doubt and inhibitions lost, as I always thought I was too old for it. I dived in and have never felt happier, It really brings me huge joy to just go and do what was on my mind, but I never ever got around to doing ( partly due to the fact it seems frowned upon by many where I live) I started with 3 second hand purchases for less than 20% of the new prices on the sets which netted me around 90 smaller sets and one or two medium sets. I have also bought the following in the last month as well: 9495 Gold Leaders Y-Wing 9492 Tie Fighter 9455 Fangpyre Mech (Ninjago) 9390 Mini Tow Truck ( Technic) 7913 Clone Trooper Battlepack 7288 Mobile police unit 2263 Turbo Shredder ( Ninjago) 2260 Ice Dragon (Ninjago) 8099 Midi Scale Imperial Star Destroyer I now have over 8800 pieces in about 6 weeks, from those new sets and some excellent second hand buys from moms clearing out old toys. This is all because I love EVE and I love Lego. That Rifter bought both of them together. :D -

Agreed completely. Many people may not know EVE Online, but just because it is not known to you, do not bash what could potentially be a great Sci-fi theme Eve also has a very fanatical fanbase, I should know, I have played the game for over 6 years. It has something about it with its fans who will almost buy anything EVE related. I am sure that many many fans will buy EVE ships as their have been forum posts about why there are no models on their favourite ships. Seeing as there are only 4 models available in the EVE shop out of Hundreds of in game ships, I honestly think these will sell well. I also urge you to look at some of the ship designs from the game, There are some hideous ones, as well as some of the most beautiful ships I have seen. There is a huge potential here. EVE is also expanding with Dust 514, a ground based shooter on the PS3 that is linked Real time to the PC MMO where the ships are piloted. There is further potential for ground based vehicles/buildings and troops here as well. I also know that the EVE developers, CCP have been quite excited about possibly having their ships built in Lego, so licensing would surely be easy to obtain. In Fact CCP themselves have been helping promote Cuusoo and their EVE ship in order to try make it a reality. The Rifter that was modeled may be a bit bland in terms of Lego's creativity standards, but remember that Lego will still take this apart and redesign it with their Engineers. What the final product turns out like may be very different. If EVE ships came out, I would buy every one I could afford. EVE wikipedia Check this out List of EVE ships with links to pics -
Bought the new Tie-Fighter the other day :) This goes really well with the new Y-Wing I have And found 2 second hand Midi MTT's in a pile of old lego I bought from a mother selling her kids old toys :)

Hi as well. I just signed up this month as well from SA, and your name looks very familiar. Are you on myBroadband forums? :) My story is very similar, have taken the plunge back into Lego these past few weeks and the bug has bitten seriously.

I agree, that is what really grabbed me about this. The posing on the figures. It reminds me of a SWAT team buildup before breaking into a building. Everyone in a position with a specific role and ready to go. EDIT: Aaargh. Sorry for resurrecting and old Thread, I just noticed now the date as being April 2011, not 2012. I actually found this by going through the MOC index.

Took my wife to go choose a Lego set a few days back, and this is what she chose. I was so impressed. ( With her choice and the set itself) She was watching me on builds but wanted to do one herself. She never had Lego as a child, but she sure likes it now, as well as her new Tie Fighter sitting on top of her PC :)

Got this about a week ago and really love it. i have only recently started collecting, but This is really one of my favourites so far. The sideways astromech droid does not really bother me. I turn his head forward anyway. My only real complaint is the very plain landing skids/ supports.
-
I still love every detail on this. I am new and have a lot to look up to, but I really am impressed here. There would be not one complaint in my house if I had that standing in my lounge :) Great Job.:)
-
Simply fantastic! And this is one of my all time favourite scenes in Star Wars. We just need to add the Final Duel Music in there and we have something EPIC :) The details in the window are great and I am looking carefully to see how you did that. I am truly impressed :)

hmm, I don't really have any problem with the CW minifigs. But then I only have a few What is it exactly that you don't like about them?
-
Brilliant work! I really love the rough terrain look, simple yet so effective, and yeah the yellow rim does stick out . However it is still Brilliant.

This is excellent ! :) I have also not seen meany AC MOC's so this makes a nice change. This is a full alien army on tracks!
-
I might change the feet, to be narrow, but I am not sure it would be stable enough. Have you seen it in LDD? The pics I posted do not do it justice. In LDD it has a nice pose. I also do have a swivel plate in there. I made a mistake on the first pic and swivel the brick itself on the plate, but I corrected that in the second picture. Thanks for the feedback :)

I am in awe. This is truly beautiful man. I would love to have that standing in my room, seriously. Well done on an excellent creation there

Welcome and congratulations :)

As new guy here too, welcome to the forum :)

Thanks for the welcome :) There is a lot of Lego here, but I don't think collecting/ advanced MOC is very big, it seems more sales are for kids as toys. The only real downside is the steep price of Lego here. Using the example of set 9495 Gold Leaders Y wing that I just bought. RRP is $50 which should be around R400 direct exchange rate. I ended up paying R700 for this, nearly double the direct exchange rate and this was from a major retail toys store. Won't mention any names to be fair. Lego is in that price range markup everywhere here in South Africa. It obviously has to do with the shipping, customs and import duties etc.

"The Dark Ages" - How long were you away from Lego?
Gory51 replied to Duck's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I had tons of Lego as a kid, and kind of grew out of it.... moved away from Mom's house to Dads house .I dont know what ever happened to the stuff but i suspect my mother sold it all as it was no longer used. 25 years later I'm am 38 now, and I suddenly went out and bought a load of Lego from some kids mother who was in turn cleaning out his old toys. I got a real bargain of about 2500 bricks. i had been looking at some decent MOC's on the web at the time, and the Lego bug just bit me again. That was a few weeks ago, and I have since bought another 7 sets lol. -
Thanks for the suggestion, I think it is a good idea. When I started this I first chose the transparent blue cheese wedge as a starting point as it was one of the pieces I had in my small parts box. I had no idea where the creation was going, or which colours I would use at that time, hence the odd bit of colour here and there. I have also modified it slightly now.....upper arms and swapped out an arm cannon. Here is Version2
