LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 10 Discussion
Faefrost replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I don't think that there have ever been any chasers for you to get, prior to this? Maybe one "find the real gold C3PO" once years ago?- 1,076 replies

One other bit of news. Cartoon Networks list of shows was released today, and noticeably absent was The Clone Wars. So as far as CN is concerned TCW is cancelled. However word is that work has already begun on TCW season 6, and Disney is taking it over to air on Disney XD. http://comicbook.com/blog/2013/01/28/star-wars-clone-wars-moving-to-disney-lego-yoda-specials-at-cartoon-network/ Yoda chronicles will apparently stay with CN.

I think the differences in how the two series were filmed was a limiting factor. The PT was shot entirely digitally, making it viable to do a 3d conversion well after the fact. The OT was shot on film, with no thoughts to 3d in mind. If we thought the Special Edition changes were bad, we would be horrified at what they would have to do to our beloved movies to make them 3d.

Well they don't normally get new outfits until a couple of episodes in, so they are probably saving the reveal. The books supposedly squeeze in between the episodes and seasons. So that last book takes place before the next season, if there is one. Also, did Lego do a smaller production run of this last wave, or are they just flying off the shelves unbelievably fast? At my local big box stores the new Ninjago sets barely last half a day whenever they restock them.

It's dead Jim! I think there is a more important takeaway from this decision, that will probably effect what sets we see in the near to mid future. It seems to strongly indicate that Disney Lucas is much more focused on going forward to new stuff, not simply the old. I know many of the purists will hate this, but I suspect that after the Summer wave that we know about, SW Lego sets will probably start swinging more and more towards newer properties. Expect a stronger TCW presence in the line up, at least until it can be replaced by newer subjects. We will probably still see some classic subject OT sets, at least the main primary stuff (MF, ATAT, Darth Vader Tie, etc), but pretty much anything in the PT that can be shifted more towards TCW most likely will be. Probably a few more sets pimping alternate media projects, such as Yoda Chronicles, SWTOR and whatever video game they release next.

I love it. A very distinctive and unusual piece of apparatus. It took me a minute or two to make sense of what it is. Here in the US we have these trucks, although they will more typically be operated by the highway or bridge and tunnel departments, railroads or similar utility, than the fire department. These are big monsters to provide a massive amount of air movement into fairly long tunnels in the event of a fire or a simple breakdown of the tunnels built in fan systems. About the only US Fire Department that might have something like this would be FDNY. Just because somewhere they have at least one of everything, and they never throw anything out. They also did a lot of experiments in the 80's involving positive pressure in hi rise fires. Is the model based on an actual prototype?

LEGO's Jabba's Palace, Star Wars, and accusations of racism
Faefrost replied to ticktockclock's topic in Culture & Multimedia
The problem with Star wars and the prequels is Lucas tried to channel many of the serials that he grew up with and loved. This was for the most part good. But by the time of the prequels he had become powerful enough that no one bothered to point out when certain details might be problematic. Jar Jar is one of the results. Yes Lucas was seeking to channel some of the old slapstick from the classic black and white days. he failed to realize how much of the old stuff was of the "Step-n-fetch", and "Buckwheat" variety. JarJar was not intended to be a black character or in any way an insult. But he did kind of channel a great deal of comedy tropes that were very typical of the presentation of black actors during the dark days of early hollywood. Needless to say some took issue with that. The Jabba's Palace thing is just insane. The building and look was designed 30 years ago by the late Ralph McQuarrie. Yes, it has a slight north african / Arabic feel to it. Simply because it had to blend with the setting, and they were using Tunisia for the location shots. -
For the type of build you like, I would also recommend the Modular Buildings. Grand Emporium, Fire Brigade, Town Hall, Pet Shop etc. While they are sort of numbered. The numbering is low, with 8-10 bags per number. With each numbered step building an entire floor of the buildings. For the Castle type stuff, don't skip The Kingdoms Joust set either. Just a phenomenal build, and one that nicely compliments MMV.

I'm sure there are a lot of factors. In the case of the spear part of it might be that a change in materials is what allowed the dual color injection molding to be possible.

The Earth Marshals... the next action theme?
Faefrost replied to Yatkuu's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Captain Planet was privately created and produced by a fairly whacked out crazy billionaire with longstanding political views. (The whacked out craziness has little to do with the political views. The politics merely provides a direction to point Ted Turners insanity in. But at least he is fun to watch.) Since WB bought out Ted Turners properties the IP has been fairly well ignored.- 39 replies

Many times when we are dealing with preliminary photos. Sometimes the Minifigs are just placeholders for mocked up boxes.

It would offer no new "characters". There is however room in it for some new minifigs. A new Galdalf fig (maybe a bot of scorching, new staff and Glamdring?) A new Frodo (mithril vest showing?). New variants of Moria Orc archers. Plus if they do it in a cheap enough set, such as Shelob, I could forgive no new figs.

The Zombie graveyard was a exclusive edition set made for a single merchant plus in house sales. So the production numbers were probably lower. The Monster Fighters theme was more of a short term 1 and done seasonal theme, with sort of a Halloween flair. And Target is not a merchant prone for a lot of extensive re orders of such a set or theme. Plus it had the cool Goth Wedding minifigs, so the set probably sold a little better than planned. Not enough to justify another run of it, but enough to sell it out from the factory. We occasionally see this happen with mercchant exclusive sets. (Ninjago Dragons anyone?)

The Earth Marshals... the next action theme?
Faefrost replied to Yatkuu's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
The Dacta set is perhaps the polar opposite of what your theme is putting forth. That set you link is designed to teach and work with energy efficiency. Getting more from existing energy sources at the least cost and lowest impact to the environment. That is actually one of those areas where all sides agree. It is the purpose of teaching refinement of existing technologies and development of new. It illustrates how much energy you can get at what costs or tradeoffs. your theme is designed to teach kids that the current most efficient, least impactful mechanisms of energy (fossil fuels) , is pure evil and must be fought by a team of super environmentalists. It ignores the very real and very important trade offs. And I'm sorry but it reeks of far left environmentalist propaganda. Which is a shame. The builds are gorgeous. The model design work is first rate and the color choices are amazing.- 39 replies

Helms Deep if you can get it on sale. In addition to being a great castle in and of itself, it is a phenomenal Castle type parts pack because it is a mostly brick built castle. Tons of light bley with sand green and some dark bley. Lots of neat useful castle pieces such as hinges doors and masonry bricks.

The striping looks real impressive on it. And the extra plate height over the wheels gives it just that touch of an off road feel.

LEGO's Jabba's Palace, Star Wars, and accusations of racism

See here is a clear example of reading too much into things. Yes there is a slight Japanese flair to Hondo's gang, just as there also is the the counterpart good character Embo. The main episodes featuring them were designed as homages to classic Akira Kurosawa films. So there is a touch of Seven Samurai going on there. -
Wow! Old thread. Just for the record, so long as it is here. Paramedic's are advanced Ambulance technicians. Unlike standard EMT's they are trained for Advanced Cardiac Life Support. They can push drugs, defibrillate, place a breathing tube etc. in the 1980's when the set was made, it was quite common for Paramedics to respond to calls in "fly cars" or special response units. They would join up with Ambulances at the scenes that required their skills. If you ever watched the old American TV show "Emergency", Johnny Gage And Squad 51 were one of these response units. They were mostly phased out in the 90's in favor of simply putting the Paramedics and ALS gear in the ambulances.

Is the ship pic from the set, or from the game? There are some weird details in it? Like the blank white bat winged ghosts and the orcs with hair pieces? (Orcish hair club for men?)

Sadly as expected, big trouble at Funcom http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/121718-Trouble-Comes-to-Funcom They shut down the Beijing Studio, all but shut down Montreal (its only make mobile app games now), transfered all MMO stuff to North Carolina and still laid off a bunch of the NC staff. Anarchy Online, Age of Conan and The Secret World are all now in NC. No word on who or where the Lego game is being developed.

I keep forgetting to pull this thread up when I'm on a pc. For some reason the lecture link just comes up as a black box on my iPad?

I'm still not crazy about that eagle? I can't get past the thought that the Creator one looks to be the proper size and actually has claws that can grab a minifig. Whereas the molded creature fig in the Black Gate set just seems small and lacking in real play value. It sort of illustrates why I am hoping that when they do do a Fel Beast it is brick built instead of molded. The molded stuff is either too small or it eats up so much of a sets budget that there is nothing else worthwhile there. ( such as the SW Rancor. Big cool maxi fig. Standing between 4 posts.) I want a Fel Beast that can pick up a horse in its jaws.

LEGO's Jabba's Palace, Star Wars, and accusations of racism
Faefrost replied to ticktockclock's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Would it be spoiling things to point out that the main oppressive villains in Star Wars are almost universally European White Dudes with British accents? Really everyone is reading too much into Star Wars and using it as some sort of philosophical reflection of what goes on between their own ears. Why is Star Wars so white and British? Because principle live action photography was filmed in the 1970s London. The actor choices were mainly "pasty faced white dud", "other pasty faced white dude", and "really really pale dude". -
This would be my idea for an exclusive "close out the line" set, similar to HP's Diagonal Alley. The Gray Havens - the grey elven ship, a small dock, a small covered cart. Minifigs, Gandalf the White, Elrond, Galadriel, Old Bilbo, Finery Frodo, Finery Sam, Finery Merry, Finery Pippin. Bilbo/Frodo's book and three new colored rings. Blue, Red and white/silver.

Chances are the only way we will get a Jedi Temple set will be a TCW version. There is no way that TLG will ever green light a RotS version where the main character essentially murders a building full of young school children.
