Provocative art? Sick art? Art at all?
SuvieD replied to Hobbes's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
LEGO has always involved violence. Child's violence. The knights jousted and had duels but no one ever died. The pirates robbed the imperials but no one died. The ninja assasins pinned down there enemies and captured the shogun but no one died. Hospitals, fire trucks and police vehicles all show that there is danger or violence in LEGOLAND but no one dies. Why do you think there are so many jail cells in castle, pirate and police sets? What about the adventurers all carrying guns, yet the bad guys always escape. Same with the Alpha team. How many times do they have to blow up Ogel's hidden lair? What about the witch's in the belville line, they are obviously the enemy why no death for them? Stuggle, danger, and competition are some of the primary functions of LEGO and they always have been. When I was a child my friends and I played with He Man and GI Joe. They would fight and battle for hours, sometimes getting wounded near death or captured. They lived to fight another day. It was not until I got older that they started killing one another. LEGO makes themes with a level of conflict in them because their core audience is 6-12 year old boys. Boys thrive on conflicts. Races, competitions, video games, cops and robbers, hunting, anime cartoons or just about anything else that they like to do involves a level of conflict. Boys don't like tea parties, shopping or chatting with friends like girls do. So to say LEGO is violent, you are correct. To say LEGO is hate filled, murderous, fanatical or evil is a different story. I am glad they removed it. LEGO belongs to the imagination of a better life not to the retelling or acting out of hate and brutality. I am not saying that people shouldn't be able to build or display what they want. But I would like if they didn't slap it all over the internet for everyone else to see. -
I like it in a way but dislike it in another. It is big and nice to look at. But at the same time it is very bland. All the rocks are in squarish shapes. The fort on the ramp baseplate looks so out of place as it is green and everything around it is gray. Of course the ships and figures are cool but the building is built in a very speedy stlye. Burps don't require much time or effort to make huge mountians if you have enough of them. I prefer something a little more varied. Look here at My shoreline. This was very rushed as I had about 8 hour total to build, setup the battle and take it all down. It is much more varied and more natural looking to me. Take a look at this builders style. Takeshi Itou Somewhat more like the pirate display but better in a number of ways. More natural formations, some plant life or snow make all the difference.

I think the blue hair would also be nice in yellow, though I would prefer one that sticks up a bit more. I would like to see a purple mid length hair the color of Zam's outfit for Trunks. I really don't want LEGO to get the DB license because then all the figs would be fleshies *sick*. My one consolation if they did is that I could get Picolo *wub* . Lizardy/frog guys are better than balistic ape men any day. If these do really well in south and west Asia maybe LEGO could finally get a partnership with Nintendo started.

Okay, I have four or five sets in the stlye of what I am thinking built. I ended up getting my space stuff ready to sell last night so I didn't get pictures. I will get those tonight and then you can all see what I am thinking of.

I have a large lot of classic space items I am going to sell as a lot. I have double checked each set to verify piece accuracy and count. I was wondering if there are any big spenders out there that would be interested in buying the lot. I am offering this to EB first, so if there are no takers you will find it on Bricklink. Sets include 6805 link 493 link 452 missing one shield link 462 link 487 link 442 link 1498 x 3 link and a bonus space tub with only classic space parts in it. I am looking to get $350 for the whole lot. This would make a huge dent in what I lost. I have insturctions for the rocket set only, and no boxes for any of them. I do have the instructions on cd and will be sending that along with the package. I will ship for free to anywhere in the US and only $10 to ship anywhere else. The package will be insured. I have done my best to make sure no yellowed or badly damaged parts were included, I replaced parts with the same exact part from the same period of LEGO. No new parts are included. No broken parts are included. Some of the parts have playwear especially some of the figures but all still have the classic logo and many are in great condition. Most pieces that have the gold printing are still gold. The bonus tub contains parts that, sold seperately on bricklink for the lowest price available, would total over $150 dollars. An extra 4 crater baseplates are in used played with condition. Some are more yellowed than others and all have playwear. I will post pictures if anyone is seriously considering buying this. I will answer any questions about these sets you have.

I am not to happy with ebay at the moment. I would rather not use ebay. *sick* Though I may have to. :'(

Well, I am actually basing what i would make off of the feedback I get from here. I will post pictures later today of a few small sets I have made to give a general idea of what I am looking to do.

I am in need of some financial gain due to a very bad situation. I would rather not sell many of the parts and figures I have spent so much time collecting. So, I have decided to sell some custom sets I am in the process of planning. But I need your help. I would like to sell things people would want to buy and I need opinions on what will sell best. I will be making small sets that would sell for $20 or less. If you have a minute let me know what you think about some questions. How many minifigures should be included per every $5 a set costs? What price per piece is considered a good buy? What condition do the parts have to be in to be considered/desired (obviously not all parts will be in mint/new condition)? Castle, mecha or space which should I pursue? Are instructions a must or should I try something like an x-pod style?

Languages entered the monster contest with some great entries and one of them is featured on LEGOFan right now! If you follow this link you will scroll down to the cool stuff off the week. The fifth link on the right hand side features the great cyclops he built. Check it out!

Respect is shared. If you respect other they should respect you. You have been asked not to make any more topics like this unless you are willing show your progress. So the respectful thing to do is to listen to the Mod. and wait to post until you have some progress. If you don't get much respect you are either the son of Rodney Dangerfield or you need to be less severe in the way you communicate with others. A good start is not to write things like . Instead try something like "I don't have another place where I am treated with such respect."You'll be fine. At least you don't steal others mocs or art.

If anyone wants x-pods, let me know. I will pick them up and charge you exactly what it costs to purchase and ship them. I know of a few stores that have sales also so I can get them a little cheaper than retail (plus 7.5% tax). It may take some time for me to get them to you and I can't guarantee the number of them I can find (on sale or not) but it will be much cheaper than buying them from someone else. I frequent most stores that carry LEGO once a week, so it won't be any trouble. I can also reduce packing materials to lessen the shipping cost if you don't need the sets MISB.

Welcome to EB. We like the people of FBTB, mostly. ;) Have fun and I'll see you around.

Imperials (at least the captains) decended straight from chimps in the area around Greece. :() The "monkey-people" were placed in travelling circus' and paraded throughout France. :oo Some time in the period of the dark ages they began having less hair and started an advanced system of communication that distorted previous languages of those around them. |-/ During an accidental fire the monkey-people escaped their cages and travelled hidden in a small cargo boat headed for the island off the coast of France. *viki* It was here that the monkey-people refined their language and became even less hairy (though still very hairy compared to most people). |-D They began mixing with the local anglos and saxons and remembering their trip to freedom was sea bound they took a fond liking to the sea. :o It was these monkey-people who generally became the fierce animal like captains of great ships in both the new land, the homeland and even travelled to far off land like the one down under. ;) So as you can see, not only was Broadside decended from monkey-people but so to could you be Phes. ;) Oh and I am sorry if at any time my gypsy ancestors hauled you around in a cage and poked your great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandmonkey . . . I mean father with sticks. :o

Happy birthday Dino Bot. The big 17. Only a few years away from total responsibility and a dramatic decrease in free time. :'( Don't worry it gets better after the kids are in college and you are in a wheelchair. :-D ;) Just kidding! Have a great day.

When you want to add the picture as a picture do this -in brickshelf, click the picture in the folder until you can no more, this is called a deeplink -then copy the link from your internet address bar and in your message click the IMG button just below where you change fonts -paste the link in the there and click okay You have now added the picture to your message and not just a link. ***You must paste the deeplink, not the folder link if you want just the picture, if you post the folder link before it is public(reviewed) no one can see it

Hey Yuppley. No need to be shy around here. Have fun and join in posting.

I will be coming into about 30 of these in gray. I will be placing them in my BL store. If you need more than what you get from others check my store in about 2 weeks.

Nicely executed. I like the color patterns used. I would like to see some of the cargo it can carry. ;)

I would like to take a little deeper look in the dumpster. I will look for anything out of place like winter items or weapons, really for anything that doesn't belong on a island. While we are at it lets also ask the doorman about the couple we just saw. Names, if they are staying at the hotel, if he has seen them before are all questions I would like answered.

Stickers are awful. They fall off, look stupid if not perfectly applied and have little to no added value to a set. The one redeeming value of stickers is that one doesn't have to put them on leaving the piece blank. Which is perfect for a castle builder like me. Having them in a set I want to part out is fine but if they ever start putting stickers on castle buildings I will not be happy >:( .

Besides, the name may be referring to the actual bricks, which are made in Europe, and not the people who talk about them and the location of those people.

I don't remember, it had something to do with a set I was interested in knowing more about. I lurked for a few monthes and then decided that I wanted to share in the fun. I still think this is the best LEGO website out there. I'll stick around until Jipay or TT's children* take over and change it to EuroMegaBloks. *sick* *future children
