  1. Actually I don't know about that...they wouldn't say it's a limited run of 10k and then mass produce later. similarly, I'd bet the chrome 3PO are much more expensive to make than the normal one, and Lego is cheap lately...so I'd say it's safe to assume it's gonna be what they say: just 10k
  2. yes...the god-modding there was incredible. Remember Phes? The quest for the old gray brick? X-D
  3. Listen guys this is getting out of hand and I'm THIS close to closing the topic Let's list the facts: 1. Not everyone will get one 2. There are only 10,000. Period. 3. Their price will ultimately rise with time. So just calm down. Morris, I know you want one...and cheap, but it doesn't work that way. So either try your luck with sets (in the US, or buy your sets from the US or something), or save up and buy it off ebay and/or BL.
  4. I'd like to thank you for getting that stupid banana phone song stuck in my head! >:-( :-P I just wish it would stop :'-(
  5. Actually these sets are amazing, you never get so many figs per dollar. I think it even outdoes the battle packs and old-time figure packs. The only thing I don't like are the glued rooks, etc. I just hope they don't make a brick-built "knight" since all things considering that would be pretty stupid :-P
  6. Moved to the Star Wars subforum. And please everyone try to keep a cool head. Think about it this way, sure they may sell it cheaper (not likely though), but you could have gotten it for free maybe if they didn't.
  7. That's a really horrible story, now I'm worried myself...should I buy from Lego themselves (S@H), or would my chances be better at a store...I'm sure there have to be some repercussions from this all for the odds of getting one. Although I have to disagree on the point you made, I'd bet it was an AFOL who did it, a kid would get caught, but an adult could be sneaky about it. How it happened I still don't know though.
  8. Exactly, oo7 hit the nail on the head. Tell me morris, are sets from 1970 really dirt cheap? No, in fact they're extremely expensive. In time many 3PO will be broken or lost or damaged or thrown away. The numbers will decrease even more. The supply is extremely limited. Look at it this way, my home town, which is small has more than 10,000 people. Now look at the rest of the US. Then compare that number to everyone NOT in the US who wants this. Sure, not everyone in the world will want one, but the number far exceeds 10,000. And when demand exceeds supply, the price goes up. When they start being more common in a month or two, I'd love the price to be around $100 or maybe even $75, though that's probably wishful thinking. Even then the price would go back up dramatically when they stopped being available. Let me make an ASCii chart for you: |................................/ |.............................../ |............................../ |............................./ |___....................../ |......\.................../ |.......\................./ |........\___/\___/ | | |________________ That's what sales will pretty much look like
  9. No, they just have a shiny chrome-gold coat, however there are 5 gold-plated c3PO that are given away in a contest that you can write-in to participate in
  10. Actually, you can get black beards from BL. I have a pair :-P
  11. Except that those were high at the start because of limited demand. Then more were made, enough so EVERYONE could have one, so there was less competition. However the number of available figs will never increase, it will just go down, and slowly they will start disappearing off ebay till there's 1 or 2 a week at the most. The price will be UP, then it will MAYBE go down to $200/fig, and then it will SKYROCKET back up to probably $300-400US when the supply runs out. That's really not the point...
  12. :-D Great pics, *yoda*! Especially that last one X-D
  13. Make another 56 posts :-P A bit ago due to the number of spam polls, the ability to make polls was moved up to the rank of Knight. You can always ask a mod or admin to make one for you in the interim however.
  14. Well put, supernova. Except that not everyone knows about the event period, that automatically takes out those that remain MIB and those that children open (not to mention the collectors who will keep sets MIB to sell later with the tag "Could have a golden 3PO!"). And besides, there are millions of lego fans out there. Most of them will want to keep this if they get it. 10000 is a drop in the bucket next to even one million. And as for Bill Gates, you're right. However Bill Gates won't be looking for this, and the majority of fans are nowhere near his tax bracket.
  15. There's actually already a topic announcing it in the gen forum, but I think it's good to have a place to discuss every detail about it :-) Hey, did you ever see this information, which was taken off of the site?
  16. Why? I'm confused, the new arms (besides being too long and looking like robot arms) don't fit on the classic skellies except for where the legs would go...
  17. I believe Recluse's silicon molding tutorial was posted a few pages back, it says that problem can be fixed by making more holes for air bubbles to escape.
  18. No battle packs, though there's debate going on over whether they're in just the summer '07 sets, or also the jan '07 sets.
  19. Well, first of all a lot of them will just get ruined and thrown away by children. Secondly a lot will remain in the box for those MIB fanatics. That leaves MAYBE 5000 And even if it was all 10000, there are many more people than that, who would want it
  20. Hopefully that will go way down when they start being available in actual sets in stores, and not just from CIV. Unless supply somehow loses its inverse relationship with demand 8-|
  21. Eek! I just read through the thread, and have noticed a bunch of misconceptions! First, Little Armory doesn't sell from their site anymore, just from Sith35's Bricklink Store. Also, I really doubt that any of the other, large customizers (Redbean/Brickforge, Unknown Artist, Brickarms, etc.) would be willing to spend all those thousands on an injection mold. You don't want to go cheap with this, they use the best equipment, and therefore have great products that are indistinguishable from Lego! However you spend a little less...and suddenly the shako doesn't fit when you get it! And then you're out several tens of thousands of dollars. As far as recluse, she's a viable option only to a certain extent. She charges about $10US per cast, and it's very slow. So...yeah. As for making your own? Go for it! That's what it's all about, however even silicon molding will take a lot of tries. Getting all the air bubbles out, making sure everything lines up, etc. That isn't easy, and even Recluse, one of the best silicon Lego molders out there has had difficulty. Do you want them to look like the actual Lego piece, or just lumpy and sort of similar? Third...it probably isn't a good idea to go to the big customizers and beg for them to make the molds you want. You can check their forums...that isn't looked upon very nicely, the most common response you'll get is something along the lines of "do it yourself". That is the best option, in my opinion. Doing a professional injection molding part would not be feasible, you'd need to guarantee thousands of parts sold before you even break even! Silicon is likely the best way to go, but that is labor-intensive and very...very slow. Your best bet would be to check in the community forum and see if there are any customizers who have done anything similar and to ask if they could do it. IS can always try his hand at getting better with the whole system (since everyone has to start at the beginning), however keep in mind it could get expensive fast, and there will be a lot of trial and error. You don't want to use the cheap, quick-curing silicon either. Edit: Also, there's nothing to worry about, as far as legal ramification goes. Plenty of customizers do this (just look at Recluse), and they don't get bothered. As far as deterring TLG from coming out with another pirate line, I think it would go the other way! Little Armor was making SW blasters for a long time, and then all of a sudden Lego decided to switch to guns and make them, themselves! This actually really upset him, as he claimed they more or less copied his design, but that isn't something to go into right now. What I'm basically saying is, it might inspire them (if anything) to make another line.
  22. There were more than 10000 Jango and watto figs. And I'm guaranteeing you that more than 10000 people world-wide will want this fig. Heck, more than 10k people just in the US will want this fig.
  23. Ah, nope! But you'd have to imagine those soldiers have those beautiful metal-colored helms that they do in the sets (if they don't I'll be really pissed). And the skellies will hopefully all have the scythes...I love those pieces, and would be pissed if they gave the pawns all maces or something |-/
  24. Yup, it's actually being talked about over in the main thread for Castle, with higher-res pics X-D We have to thank Athos for finding this over at C-C! I hope we finally get a new beard...and I *wub* that helm
