And you need to drop the condescending attitude towards one of your peers...kid |-/

So you had no time, but developed some questions relating to time? X-D Well that's your right. I believe he said something along the lines of 50 years IIRC though. Remember, he isn't saying this happens overnight. It's not like we suddenly get hit with a huge flood like in the movies. Rather it's the water level raising a few inches a year, etc. And I live on an island, it is happening :-P I'm too busy studying for an exam in my grad course in microbiology ;-) If you have the time though, I'd love to...er...pick :-$ Oops Er, but he didn't say "spread this and make them see that column A is right!" He's just confidant in his argument, but wants you to spread it so you get THEM thinking. He encourages throughout the video to do it yourself, make your own, add other variables, etc. He even said at one point that if nothing else, he just wants people to THINK about it. Why? Because if we don't think, we automatically choose column B. Is that sort of a push for column A? Absolutely, we know he chooses column A, but he isn't trying to force us to choose column A, he's trying to force us to make a choice period. Do you really need to add in more variables though? Sure, you'd get a more accurate picture about how to handle it and what to do, but isn't that more valuable only after you've made the choice of whether or not you're going to act? You don't always need to make something hyper complex, sometimes nature is simplicity. Those are the four general possibilities. You might ask "What about if we act and still can't stop it!", well that would fall under the "column A, true" category, just with a less positive outcome. Each box has itself, a wide range of possibilities, each one is like a miniature rainbow. If you want to flush each one out yourself, by all means do it like he said! However those are the four base choices and outcomes.

Morris, what about people who are "true" star wars fans who just don't have the FUNDING to buy these things? If your argument is that any true star wars fan will have one, then you're not talking about a true star wars fan, you're talking about a star wars fan who likes and collects lego who has hundreds of dollars to blow on a single fig. What about SW fans who don't like lego at all? What about SW fans who are broke? What about SW fans who don't like this fig? What about SW fans who can't get them even if they try? You can't just go around and say that if you don't have one you're not a "true" SW fan...that's just a baseless qualifier...does it matter what the rest of his collection was? You aren't the person to decide if they're a true SW fan or not. And there are more than 10,000 true SW fans out there, Morris. And guess what? There are more than 100,000 true SW fans out there. Edit: Well said, Sinner. Also Morris, what about the gold plated C3PO? Will they end up making 100,000 of those too? 8-|

I think he knew that :-P What he probably was wondering was why are there wings and a scythe? It does, afterall, kinda depart from the EF theme and feel slightly out of place. Besides that I think this is a great little set though. My favorite part is that "backpack" for the droid. As for the dropship I can't quite decide if I love it or not, but it REALLY stands out to me. Great work all around.

Er...that's right. And it also didn't have humans ruining the environment in the history... Scientific varliables? Such as what? Where did he put sentimentalism? I see absolutely no contradictions in there. He says he's putting this out there so you can think about it, weigh the variables yourself, and come to your own conclusion. He wants you to spread it so more people think about it (he actually says that verbatim near the end), not so more people listen and agree. In fact he goes out of his way to tell people to contact him if they find some flaws in his reasoning. So far I've heard none except "well he didn't take every single detail into account". However he doesn't have to, he dumbed it down so that it wouldn't last hours and hours, and left it in a way that you can reconsider it yourself with other variables he didn't have time for. Was there anything he actually said that was incorrect? If so, what?

No, you're not alone. There are plenty of people left who only want to build in the old, simple style. That tends to be for two reasons...either they have no SNOT ability, or they are really centered around nostalgia and collect lego because of nostalgia. I'm sure there are other reasons though, but those are the two main ones that jump out at me. However, you'll find most people build in the new style. Yes, it is. Lego is moving onto more complicated and advanced building techniques. They're catering more to the general AFOL, and heck, kids tend to like it more too, because it looks more "real". You're 110% allowed to have your opinion, so don't let anyone tell you that it's wrong to not like that building style, however I'm curious about what you meant about the police truck you posted. How did it feel like cheating? It was a pretty straight-forward build, barely any SNOT or advanced building techniques to be found! Also, don't confuse SNOT with "illegal", as you seem to have in your post. Illegal building techniques are ones where pieces are used as they were not intended, in ways that stress, and could eventually potentially break the elements. Yes, some SNOT is illegal, but some normal techniques are illegal too! Heck, TLG themselves used to produce several sets with "Illegal" building techniques, such as the old ears on horses.

Someone's gotten the Sith Infiltrator
Starwars4J replied to Two-Faced Batman Fan's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Well at least he has a chrome lightsaber...and that speeder is...*wub* The rest of it doesn't look so hot, and now I'm worried about the front part slipping off unintentionally since I down see a mechanism to secure it. meh, parts pack -
How are you defining a "true sw lego fan"? You've been asked this before and never answered. And also what makes you think all "true sw lego fans" have the kind of money to go out and buy them? Not everyone can thrown down $200-300 on a fig I have only one thing to say to this: show me one piece of proof that there's ANY indication that they'll make more than 10,000 and that this isn't just your hopeful dreaming. It's just bad business practice to make more of something once you've promised a limited amount, there would be backlash at TLG if they did so. But again, if you have ANYTHING to indicated they might do that, it would make your claim much more valid. No, the price will increase with time. That's a given. Period. They already have the mold, Morris. All they have to do is put a different color paint in the last machine it goes through. The paint IS more expensive though, or they would have done this from the start, so they won't be mass-producing these things. I'm sure 10,000 was carefully worked out as the point where profit cuts off.

Gold C-3PO available in (European exclusive?) set
Starwars4J replied to Turaga of Force's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That's actually been around for awhile. It's a custom ;-) I'll close this to prevent misinformation from spreading -
Hm, well doing a quick google search I got this... Not entirely sure, since I've never played the game, however it looks close enough
-
Ah, I see where I confused you...I must have worded it poorly. I meant less blocky when compared to what's there in his current MOC, not compared to the one-piece mold, which is slightly smaller.
-
Well, since it's been opened, they'll probably only give you the trade-in rate for a used game, but there's never a harm in asking! A smart businessman will always put the customer first, even if it bends the rules ;-) Also, moved to community.

Joe, I have to say this is a great issue! I assume there will be some mention of Eric's passing in the next issue, and I know you can't always throw something in last minute...it was both sad and eerie to read a "new" interview with him. Overall I think this is one of my favorite issues, mainly because it touches so many fields! I love space (and nnenn), I love castle (and those new crown knights), and I love customization. It seems like it just hit every field, and really echoed the voices of the hard-core fans of each. I can't wait for the next one! And congrats, hinckley!
-
Brickster hit the nail on the head! It's about the same thickness and size as the official piece, but very customizable. You can make some slats on angles to give it the weathered look, have some missing, etc.

Jurrassicv park in 5 (or 24) seconds
Starwars4J replied to Corpreal363's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I have just one thing to say about that... -
Well, I'd say if he's choosing he isn't doing so because he can afford all the sets and just doesn't want to...he probably has his money budgeted for other things
-
So I was browsing Classic-space when I came across a fantastic MOC. An awesome mech in the style of Exo-Force, but it makes great use of it all! I love the way they integrated that cockpit *wub* My only criticism is the overly-long barrel, but otherwise...I might have to steal a few techniques X-D Blight Gallery Here

I don't have any problems with the second floor looking like the first, I mean it happens ;-) I love the color blocking you've done with this MOC, though I'm a little sad that it isn't a friendly place :-D I'm not sure about redoing the fences with official lego pieces, why not instead just SNOT one? It would look more realistic than those blocky fences, which are way too thick for their own good. Just have a couple of 1x6 or 1x8 tiles going from one post to another? I bet it would look great! Also, maybe add some barbed wire around the tops of fences? I believe either it was invented for ranches and then adopted for war trenches, or the other way around...either way it has some roots in farms :-P It's a really nice MOC, it's so small but looks so good! I'm sure since you like sticking to traditional building style you wouldn't do it, but maybe consider tiling that water? It looks weird with studs. I really love this, and I can't wait to see that second version you were talking about!
-
I think that's due to the sheer number of Exo-fans here *sad* Personally I thought the eyes were kinda semi-fun at first, but now they just look silly to me :-| I can't believe she's beating Sandy
-
Oh god...I'm so glad I didn't see that. The only good thing about that is that it shows them as slightly more human and not always needing to be politically correct. But...I think I died of embarrassment for him. And Bush needs to work on his "jokes" :-|
-
Oh that's horrible...just the other day I had been pointed to his blog where he was so happy about his new set. He responded to each and every person, and looked forward to meeting more at an event. He seemed like a happy, laid back guy :'-( I hope both he, and his family, will do well in the coming months, and I'll pray for them. I hope though, that this isn't a prank of some sorts. I mean he said he found out on the BL forums...not the most reliable source? Meh, wishful thinking probably :'-(

Well, I think that falls back on the idea mentioned earlier. We really have no idea if it's thousands of years, or 50 years. One of the things I really liked about him was his early statement that we don't know, and it's silly to think that we can know with an absolute certainty. Well, that also goes back to what he says, we can't know if it's going to happen or not! Surethere's reason to believe it will, but we've no way to say 100% that it's going to happen, at least that's the point of view of the people who think it's all a crock anyway :-D Well a depression is a depression :-D But also remember he said several times "There isn't enough time in the world to go over ALL scenarios, I urge you to make your own, and use less extreme examples if you want! This list isn't all-comprehensive", and part of the "extreme" was that if we act, we could prevent it (an extreme on the positive side). Well you have to remember, he isn't a scientist :-D And what he said was that he has put it into an argument that is hard to refute. If you believe there are holes, he urges you to contact him about them! Maybe you want to give it a try if you feel the way you do? That's why he was mocking Gore... well actually it does. I'm sure you're familiar with the process of photosynthesis, and how they're necessary to maintain levels of oxygen in our atmosphere. Don't forget that they synthesize oxygen by taking in carbon dioxide to convert it to oxygen. And carbon dioxide is a large part of the greenhouse gasses that are talked about! So essentially they're air-purifiers ;-)
-
Hm, a bit of attitude but alright. That doesn't really address his claims though, since he admitted it was entirely a possibility that nothing would happen. However you are going off the "10,000 years" as fact, when it's just an estimation from a college professor. The estimates range from it running out, to lasting 10,000 years. Also, how much of that gas isn't reachable by our means? How much is either hidden or buried so far down that we couldn't hope to reach it safely? How much of that amount can practically be used? How long ago were those estimates given to you, and have we learned or re-evaluated anything since then? And while a clean-burning coal plant may be possible, that doesn't hold much practicality for what we currently use gasoline for. Coal takes up more space due to being a solid, and is generally difficult to use...I'm guessing that's why those clean-burning coal plants aren't very common. It's questions and problems like these that say we need to really think about all scenarios, since well...we really can't say anything with 100% certainty. Just look at how many times we've retconned statistics and "facts"!
-
I wouldn't say it sucks at all! It's a great little MOC, but no MOC is ever perfect. I really like what you've done with it though, I may have to build one eventually :-D
-
Er...it seems I've been educated :-$
