  1. Yeah, they have, and LEGO's sales have benefited from it. It's hard to deny the play value of World Racers compared to one of the older, tamer sets you mentioned. And personally, I don't see how you can say that the sets themselves have done anything but improve. The construction is more advanced, cleaner, sleeker, and better looking. I do see the appeal of the older designs (I collect them myself), but you can't really deny that LEGO's sense of aesthetics has improved immensely when it comes to construction. Of course, you can criticize them for large sticker sheets, "juniorization", etc., and in some cases it might be a valid criticism, but I think the majority of modern LEGO designs are quite good, much better than the older ones. Of course, you can bring up the old violence debate. Remember when Bionicle was introduced, and LEGO kept insisting that the swords the Toa carried were "tools" and not weapons? LEGO just completely gave up on that a few years later, and now look, Hero Factory has poison gas guns, flame throwers, etc. It's worth noting though that LEGO has been careful not to completely surrender it's image of playful innocence. Look at Power Miners. The rock monsters are little rocky gremlins easily quelled with a water cannon. LEGO Creator was made for the exact purpose of allowing people to flex their creative muscles. And Space Police 3 is limited to "freeze rays" and jail cells. Yeah, themes like Agents and World Racers might seem surprisingly mature, but they're the exception and not the rule.
  2. Very cool. Your "emo girl" looks a little to happy () but otherwise these are pretty slick, I'd love to see these as real figs.
  3. Rotor is very cool. Seems like the bad guys are infinitely cooler than the good guys in Hero Factory.
  4. Yeah, this pretty much says it all. Although personally I'd prefer a new Space theme to more SPIII. SPIII is pretty great, but two years is plenty imo.
  5. I really hate the Clone Wars. Nothing about it seems Star Wars-y to me. Even less so than the new trilogy, which was a disaster in itself. But that's not the point of this topic... I have been much more impressed with recent Star Wars sets than I have been with SW sets in the past, but I have been completely unable to afford ANY of them lately because of the utter ridiculous hike in prices. So I guess I prefer the older ones, when I could afford them. Of course, there's no denying the excellent aesthetics of the new sets. But it's hardly worth the price point.
  6. So what's everyone's favorite set from the new Atlantis wave? I wanna pick one up, but I'm not sure which to get.
  7. That's awesome, did you mix your own stuff?
  8. So, as LEGO is a creative hobby, I wondered if anybody on this site writes/plays/produces music in addition to LEGO building. I'm a producer and I've been writing music digitally for the last three years. I play the keyboard but not much else. I've got a YouTube channel , if you wanna hear some of my work.I can't be the only one... don't be shy, post some of your work here!
  9. No kidding?? Hah, wow, I got mine full price. That might explain a lot. I'm selling it through Ebay, and thanks for the price guide prateek. I think you're probably right, I'll keep it lying around until its value goes up. I appreciate the help guys!
  10. Hey- Ok, so I decided to sell most of my collection today. But I'm confused about something. The pride and joy of my collection is the UCS Batmobile. Not only is it a fantastic display set, but it has a ton of useful black parts and some cool features to boot. But when I looked on Ebay to see what it was going for, I was shocked to see that they are being sold for a penance! Is there any way to know (on Ebay or other websites) what a fair price would be for a UCS Batmobile? If it's that low, I might as well just keep it. Thanks!
  11. That underwater mech thing is available at S&H now. I'm thinking about picking it up, but I'll probably wait for a review first.
  12. Well, I'll deviate from the norm here and say that I like this set. It's out of my price range, but I really like the small cars and all of the features. The front of the truck looks quite a bit better than the back, but it still looks fun. Still though, this probably isn't the strongest set out of the World Racers line. Good review!
  13. The more I look at these sets the more I like them. I'll probably wind up getting a few of the cheaper ones. "Desert of Destruction" looks alright, too expensive for me. I'd like to see a review of it though.
  14. I think this set is the most attractive of all the WR sets I've seen so far. Mostly because of the price. The boats look good and I like the figs, it's a pretty good value for $20. If I wind up getting a WR set it'll probably be this one.
  15. Fantastic. Possibly the best set of 2010. If it wasn't so expensive, I'd be getting this.
  16. These sets look miles above many of the older Harry Potter sets. The burrow in particular looks good. Nice to see Harry Potter making a comeback. Where is it written that TLC can't reuse faceprints?
  17. That HQ is seriously one of the coolest bases I have ever seen, especially in LEGO Space. I also really like that transforming police ship, not quite so hot on the limo but it's still a pretty neat concept.
  18. This set really stands out from the other Aquazone bases. It's got some really clean design and awesome features. Thanks for the extremely thorough review, makes me wish I had the money to pick this up!
  19. I wasn't very interested in this set until now, thanks for the awesome and very convincing review. The fantastic figs, great construction, and unique features really make this a standout. Too bad the price point is way out of my range.
  20. That is some nifty detail. If it wasn't so pricey, I'd definitely pick it up.
  21. I'll withhold judgment until I see a review, BUT I do agree that it's looking very promising. The Mars Mission base was a joke, so it's good to see we're getting a proper one after years and years of lack. Even if it's not as good as it looks, I'm sure it'll be much improved from Mars Mission's outpost thing. I'm even more excited about that huge police cruiser thing.
  22. I kind of adored this set as a kid. I spent more time with this relatively cheap purchase than I ever did with the theme's more expensive sets. The transforming feature is just so ingenious, I loved imagining situations in which my model would jump over a huge bank of snow and transform into a helicopter while in midair and fly away from some menacing threat from behind. I loved Alpha Team Mission Deep Freeze, and I think this is the best set in the theme, if only for the awesome transforming feature. Also, excellent review, the video of the transformation process is a nice touch. I'd love to see some more reviews of sets from this theme!
  23. I love this set. The Dino subtheme of Adventurers was really great, I'm sad I never indulged in it; I love dinosaurs (mostly the science behind them) and I love Adventurers, so this was a good mix for me. This set has a nice aesthetic and I like the execution as well; only drawback for me is that the playability seems a little low. Still a cool looking set though, worth the price for sure. Awesome reviews, keep them coming!
  24. Johnny Thunder was here before Indiana Jones and in my opinion he still did it better. The classic appeal of his minifigure can't be denied. I never bought many of his sets, but I loved the ones I had and I always looked forward to the newest wave of Adventurers. Good review!
