Same here. Jabba's Palace is looking great, but the rest aren't looking like anything too special. I kind of like that TIE-looking vessel, but I feel like it will be pricey.
-
Nothing we didn't know already, besides the storyline bits. I hope some more finalized, clearer pictures surface soon.
-
The look of the hunters kind of takes me by surprise. They look more like the villains! Still, I am loving the steampunk vibe and I cannot understate the usefulness of the robot limbs. So much potential here. This theme is looking quite promising.
-
Not really a surprise. Space is on hiatus this year. For those of you who haven't yet, I highly recommend picking up the Earth Defense HQ while you still can. It's a gem of a set.

I know where you're coming from, but I have to say that sometimes I feel the "Eurobricks professionalism" sometimes gets in the way of casual LEGO fun. As the reviewer said, this isn't really a review at all. He's just showing us some pictures of the new TIE fighter, for which I am grateful. If someone wants to make a three page long, extensively detailed review, then great. But I don't think we should demerit smaller, casual reviews just because some people have more time on their hands. Just pointing something out since I've seen that attitude a lot here lately.

This is old now, but I feel I should clarify. I like LEGO Star Wars but it's hard for me to justify those prices when there are any number of practical things that I could be putting my money towards instead. When the choice is between a TIE Fighter or a tank of gas... That said, I will probably still pick up that TIE Fighter at some point.

Oh my god I want them all. Also, this answers our question as to how LEGO will be doing the Ring.
-
Not bad at all! The detailing is quite nice. I'm looking forward to seeing what the adventurers look like up close.
-
Not really confirmed, but since there are only two waves of sets each year, it's pretty logical to assume that Monster Fighters will be a summer release. Although, they often hit stores earlier.
-
Whatever happened to the UCS B-Wing? Is that still around? I didn't think it was a Summer wave set, but even if it is, shouldn't we have seen pictures by now?

I'm not big on the new Geonosians. Although they are more detailed, they seem to more closely resemble the Clone Wars interpretations, and look almost robotic to me. I have the old Geonosians from the old version of the Geonosian fighter, and I think I prefer them. The cannon is cool, but I think most people think of this set as a battle pack, so without compelling minifigs I don't see a reason to buy. Just my opinion though. Thanks for the great review!

I usually get my LEGO from Ebay anyway, since the prices are often better there. If The Zombies is an exclusive, it'll probably be in the $39.99 range, so that could give you some guidelines for what it'll look like.

Ideas for New Action Themes
Algernon replied to Perry the Platypus's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
If that happened, it would almost certainly be with Technic parts, a la Bionicle or Hero Factory. I'd prefer a full-blown MechWarrior-esque Sci-Fi fantasy theme. That way it's not limited entirely to Mechs, and it could lend itself to some more kid-friendly aesthetics. -
I suddenly feel very insecure about my LEGO hobby.

... So by your logic, The Beatles are only better than Katy Perry because a bunch of old coots can't adapt to a changing industry? I know some people like the CW stuff, but frankly, I think the entire idea is garbage. Star Wars should not mix with Anime. The botched prequel trilogy left my Star Wars fandom pretty shaken... for me, it's pretty much OT or go home. And I'm only 20. And besides that, the CW faces ARE pretty horrifying. They look alien. And not in the intended way.
-
I like it! Without a doubt the best TIE to date. However, I feel the price is entirely too high. I will get this, but I might wait until some sales start cropping up.
-
It's real. It's just a store exclusive, so it won't be in any generic retailer catalogs. Same was true of Ocean Interceptor in the Dino line, and countless other "leaked" themes.

REVIEW: 9446 Destiny’s Bounty
Algernon replied to Siegfried's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I was interested in this set, and I still like it, but now I'm not sure it's really worth the asking price. While the transformation feature is nice, the overall look of the boat just feels a little sloppy. If it were cheaper, I wouldn't mind so much, but I only shell out >$80 when I really like a set. Thanks for saving me some cash. Oh, and great review! -
I took the time to write out a full review of the set here, if anyone is interested in why I wasn't too fond of it. I'm still interested in that Wrecking Ball Crane set, though - has anyone picked that set up yet?
-
I recently built the Rattlecopter, and I was a little disappointed by it. Some of the minifigs were pretty cool, but the copter had way too many loose joints and felt a little incomplete to me. It's a shame, since it looks great from a distance, but the playability isn't what I hoped for.
-
I don't think LEGO has forgotten about the "golden age" of LEGO Space. Keep in mind that a lot of the designers are LEGO fans just like us. Space Police III was riddled with references only a seasoned Space fan would ever get.
-
That's interesting, actually, and it makes a lot of sense. I'm pretty confident that LEGO won't turn its back on Space for very long, and frankly, I think Monster Fighters will fill that gap pretty nicely for me this year.

For my part, I feel like brick-built creatures miss more often than they hit. The trouble is, by nature, brick-built creatures are more prone to breaking than molded ones. Even well-designed brick-builts can't compare to a decent new mold, such as the T-Rex from the Dino range. Molded monsters lend themselves to more playability (and collectibility), which are two things TLG definitely wants. There are some exceptions though. In a theme like Pharaoh's Quest, there wasn't a whole lot else to "build" in a theme that's set in a barren desert. So it made sense to have the sets revolve around brick-built statues. I just think this is the exception rather than the rule (and it should be noted that PQ didn't seem to do very well, even if it was a cult hit here).

How much did you spend on Lego in 2011?
Algernon replied to Legacy Man's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Realistic it's probably close to $250. I have a feeling that number will rise in 2012...
