  1. OK OK, you guilted me, Stauder. I've not been able to connect from home to EB for nearly 2 weeks because my stupid ISP gives me an IP address that many Web sites reject (starting with 99). So finally I set up a proxy server, and here is a link to the more detailed pics that should make it clear how it works. I guess you have to wait for it to be moderated. A few things: -the rubber hands have to pass through the holes in the 1x1 technic bricks, seen in pic3 and 4. You can get a third band in there for extra smashing force -If you really want to build it, the key parts are the 8 x 16 baseplate, three 8 long and one 12 long axles, 2 2 long axles, 5 or 7 rubber bands (depending on how much you want to smash things), 7 2 x 1 technic bricks, 2 1x1 technic bricks, 4 2x2 corner plates, 2 16 x 1 and 2 12 x 1 technic bricks, and I think the rest is fairly clear from the pics. Best picture http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/gylman/m...etails/pic7.jpg When moderated http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=2855237 I have to say I am quite surprised people are voting for the mouse-smasher. Thanks!
  2. Not news, but not listed on this thread anywhere, are the following new ("2008")sets available at S@Hm North America. The 2008 line of Tiny Turbos and the medium sized ones http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Leaf.aspx?cn=33&d=261 The 2008 Exo Forces http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Leaf.aspx?cn=34&d=70 The first Creator set (the Spider one, Fierce Creatures) http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=4994 And best of all, the Mini Scudaria Truck http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=8153 Remember the original purpose of this thread was largely to update people on happenings at Shop @ Home. We wanted to have a thread that people could quickly browse to see what's new at the web site, because many people don't check it obsessively. Incidentally, at 80% off, and nearly free shipping, I finally broke down and picked up a few of the giant expensive storage units, no longer so expensive. http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=60010 http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=60030 http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=60031
  3. Lots of pre-Xmas LEGO action in Toronto. 20-25% off on many sets, even Star Wars, at TRU, Hudson's Bay. Creator 20-33% off (finally bought the Dino since it was 33% off). Funniest one for me was 2 days ago 1) Sale on King's Castle at HBC (Hudson's Bay company) web site, 25% off. I bring it to the store, and I can get that on the in-store items. So I do. 2) If I happen to make an HBC card that day, another 10% off 3) Eager salesperson remembers that no the weekend there was a 30% "Santa Claus Parade" one day sale on some Lego sets (not advertised anywhere). So, price starts at 149.95, goes down to 65% of this. then he knocks off 30% based on the original price of 150, so another 45 dollars off. I end up paying 59 dollars for the King's Castle Siege, which is roughly 60% off! Too funny. It was part of a larger purchase, so that little gem got lost in the bigger bill, otherwise he probably would have realized that he was going a bit nuts with the price reductions.
  4. I collect all these, and will buy them, but seriously they are running out of ideas.
  5. Seriously, I don't get the pessimism. Lego is stronger in the past 2 years than I have seen in a decade. It has lots of visible retail space at the TRUs in Toronto. Sure MB has its place, but a couple of years ago I really thought it was going to take over. It's always on clearance. Only problem in Canada now is the outrageous prices compared to the US. Shop at Home continue to charge 33-50% more in Canadian dollars than in US dollars, even though our dollar is now MORE valuable than the US dollar.
  6. I dunno.... the Matoran, or Tohunga before the Maori freaked out (or should I saw McToran) that were released in 2001 were probably the best McDonalds promo ever. It just depends on the quality of the promo, not which theme. I think some little mini-creator sets would be good, but the McDonalds "motion" Lego promos were useless. I'd much rather have a McToran.
  7. I have to say it too. The wizard hat for pouring water is the cleverest little thing I have seen in a loooooooong time. Both are great given the restrictions.
  8. Holy crap! Where did you get those? What condition?
  9. Of course! The more the merrier. Probably you should post the actual pictures in the content entry thread, not this one. this thread is for discussion. Click here for the entry thread http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...showtopic=11977
  10. I guess with my name on this thread I better pop in and say hello. "Hello!" I really can't add much here, though. The key to Hinckley's MOCing genius is things look clean and simple superficially, but then you look a bit more closely and see that things aren't as simple as you thought they were, and that little touches that seem almost accidental are a key to the success of the MOC. I don't know if this is an intentional thing you do Hinckley, or whether it's just your eye for LEGO construction. For example here, the horizontal grooved 2x1 bricks in the bottom part of the tram car, when probably most people woudl have used long light gray bricks without giving it much thought. Or the curved downslope on the tramcar seats - realistic look, way better than the standard bench seat. Too bad LEGO does not have a curved roof slope piece that could have bee used to make the roof less angular. I wonder whether macaroni bricks on the corners of the tram car, above and below the roof, would have been helpful. Anyway, I'm constantly in awe of your MOCing talent. MOC on.
  11. Why not? One king for a time. Then he abdicates to make way for the new king for a time. A peaceful transition of power from one benevolent dictator to another. Long live the king! The king is dead! Long live the king! etc etc
  12. Actually, it's not ridiculous. They're very different but both are vexcellent and I suggest they are made co-winners.
  13. OK. I'll take apart the plates that hide the mechanism and post a picture. It's really quite straightforward, though. Truly no rocket science here.
  14. The airport by itself is full of useful parts, especially if you are building a modern type beach home for your sig fig.... X-D . The ^%!$#$ plane is worthless. Waste of plastic and money.
  15. It's not so surprising. Usually many of the "early" sets each year are available prior to Xmas. I'm hoping the Ferrari sets are going to be available pre-Xmas. My kid is obsessed with Ferrari. We have a Lego shrine to them.
  16. First, thanks for putting me in there. My kids will love it. Second, it's great! The humour has become significantly "higher brow". It's graduated from whacking and wedging to farting and leering. X-D At this pace, I'm expecting Carlinesque and Pythonesque comedy by episode 6. Should it reach that point, I'll be expected Gylman to be placing the John Cleese parts. LOL. I'll be anxiously waiting for the next one. And you just whipped up the diner and house as "background" for the comic? Gads. I would take days to build things that looked that nice.
  17. well.... not quite ready to quit yet.... That's what happens when I stay up late and I am semi delirious with insomnia and fatigue.
  18. From a practical point of view, I have no way of trying it out. No mice where I'm at. We apparently have the highest population density of racoons in North America, and I suppose I could supersize this and make a raccoon trap, but it's well known that no human device can defeat a racooon, and in any case some tree hugging raccoon lover would probably throw a brick through my front window if I tried. So, for now the application of this devices is pretty much confined to my children. I don't think my wife is stupid enough to fall for it, but maybe I'll try. First, I just realized we have some outstanding Italian cheese we got as a gift last week. The trap is baited. I'll leave it in the kitchen before going to work tomorrow. My wife usually is sleeping at that time, but she usually comes into the kitchen in a semi comatose state at around 7 am to get the kids stuff read for school, so she might just go for it. BWAHAHAHAHAHA
  19. Took about 40 attempts. And as for Mr. Mouse..... a) he could not resist b) he was too slow
  20. Sinner, I love your creation! My hasty entry has been posted. It's ugly as sin, but it packs a hair trigger and a mighty "thwack". I have not yet tried it to see if it can kill anything, but it does leave a nice red mark on my daughter's finger (she "volunteered" to test it out).
  21. ACME model I Moustrap Loaded That yellow brick is supposed to be a chunk of cheese. Then, if you pull on it, the hair trigger is released, and then SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH! The blade slams down to crush a helpless mouse's head (or my daughter's finger if she tries to mess with my knife collection). Don't ask how many pictures I took to time it just right to get the trap in motion. It really slams quite hard and fast. I should note that it comes with some options, not shown in this picture. You can replace the blade with clubs, teeth, swords, or technic FLEX system cable if you want to mash, macerate, cut, or garotte the mouse to death, rather than slice him quickly and painlessly.
  22. Prices are already out of control, and it's only half way. Lockhand is winning all the Castle items. Looks like he really wants these items I guess. If they go significantyl higher, I doubt he can resell them for so much that it is worth the trouble and risk... I suspect they are for his own collection. I sympathize, but I think at this point I'm outta there. There were a couple I really wanted , but not all of them. Sigh.
  23. I remember onebreeze very fondly. I bought a few from him. They were absolutely in perfect condition.
  24. OK, fine, I just had a shitty idea. I'll put up something shitty tonight. It should take about 10 minutes.... if I could find 10 free minutes. As if. But I'll try. G
  25. Duh, me. OK. I guess that cutoff starts at 200$ US.
