  1. Indeed. Do your best on this one. I think that this will be the best EB competition ever. Lots of time to prepare, and the kind of building task that everyone will like, especially since you get to inject your (and your avatar's) personality into it. I don't know what Hinckley intended for us to do for sure, but I suspect he wanted, and certainly I will be building, an entire house, not just a facade.
  2. MISB = Mint in Sealed Box. I.E. New like at the store. My interests lie only in complete sets with good condition boxes and instructions. Seriously, you might consider eBay - used Bionicle is dirt cheap these days. I saw an Exo Toa go for 15$ recently, and a sealed Manas for 40$
  3. Yes, the little flowers, hearts, and stars, can be affixed to regular lego. Some attach directly to the stud, others require a little ring that provides the connection. The ring comes with the sets generally. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=clikits024 and many similar pieces will connect onto a stud http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=clikits022 and similar pieces will connect onto this http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=clikits003 which will connect onto a stud. Also, the connecting ring http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=clikits003 provides the thinnest way to connect regular LEGO pieces stud-to-stud, although it is not a strong connection. Lego builders have generally not used these pieces to their fullest potential. I am sure they have other uses that have yet to be discovered, but people can't get past the non-LEGOish nature of these fairly cheesy items.
  4. I have all the 04 titans, MISB, or used. Also Most of the 2001 and 2002 sets MISB as well. What Adventurers stuff do you have. Also, define "more" with regard to the other Lego. Star wars has no interest for me.
  5. OMG. All those years, and I never realized that. LMFAO. Too funny. I wish I could do that with my real life hair. :-(
  6. Hey thanks!!! My new avatar! You bought a Maxifig just for me??? :'-) Jeez..... you're bringing a tear to my eye. But it's great. I look much more youthful. Through the combination of cleaner plastic and a better camera and photoediting skills, you've shaved years off my looks. Truly an example of "plastic" surgery. Although it doesn't show in the picture, I am certain that my ABS are much firmer than before. Maybe I even have the 6-pack back. Dunno, will have to leave that to your imagination. The short sleeve shirt suits me well, and I agree that the brown corduroy flarebottom pants had to go. But I'll always have those memories of doing the Hustle at the local disco. Thanks Hinckley. It rocks. Great makeover. Now I'm off to pick up some hot new femifig tail! Grrrrrrrrroooooowwwwwwllllllllllllllllll New Gylman "Old" Gylman
  7. Strictly speaking PROMO items are not for the direct purpose of making money. They are to PROMOTE product visibility and indirectly to lead to the making of more money. p.s. GO ADVENTURERS
  8. This whole thread makes me want to upchuck. Except for the awesome Adventurers gear someone showed a photo of some posts back of course. *wub*
  9. Can the political stuff go to the "community" forum? This is the MOC forum. It's nice work, and deserves appropriate discussion of LEGO aspects. The other (political) stuff does not belong here in this forum. Frankly IMHO it does not belong at EB at all. It never changes anyone's mind, and leads only to ill will among members. As an admin on this forum I could delete that part of the discussion, but out of respect for the feelings of those who have written what they have, I did not. Please, though, don't continue this here. Gylman
  10. Why all the gear hate? (kidding...) I love my Adventurers gear! (Just a fraction, not including the pens, books, gazillions of plastic and metal keychains, buttons, deck of cards, games, birthday party favours, and of course the two retail display flags pictured previously....) One time The Wife made me an offer I couldn't refuse on the small Adventurers Knapsack, and I refused it! X-D Two critical items missing from my collection. Anyone has 'em, let's talk turkey! :'-) X-D http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?G=bporient Aventurers belt pouch Orient and this http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?G=Compass Although the second one may not have any Lego or adventurers mark on it, in which case my interest is not so intense.
  11. Unless it is a very small item, 10$ usually means surface mail. That means 4-6 weeks. Sometimes more. + a beaten up box usually. Let us know when it comes though. Useful to keep track of these things.
  12. I think having Hinckely's head move back a tiny bit with each of the hits would add greatly to the "realism" of the animation. It's only a matter of taking a single extra pic, and inserting it into each of the cycles where Hinckley is hit.
  13. There WILL be PEACE! EVEN IF I HAVE TO SHOOT DEAD EVERY PERSON IN THIS ONE HORSE TOWN!
  14. Ermm... sorry peeps, ...... I bought 10 of them at half price 2 weeks ago. Two words: Loot bags. Peace. Out.
  15. Agreed. Troy is not some newbie with a smartass screen name trying to sell us his Star Wars collection on his second post at EB. I've bought from him several times. I think he gets cut some slack. There have been other guys who advertised here, and I bought from them too. I am glad they tried to sell here. That being said, we don't want EB overrun by people joining just to sell. One approach is to have Admins come up with a consistent policy that takes into various factors, and then everyone knows where they stand. Or, sometimes the best policy is no policy other than common sense. The admins can just arbitrarily delete whatever seems inappropriate to them, since they are admins and can do whatever they want (I'm not being sarcastic, I'm serious). I have not found the admins unreasonable or intolerant. As long as the volume of sellers does not become a problem, I don't see a problem with the second approach either.
  16. I'd pay the money as a service to the community. Joe Meno does us all a valuable service in putting this out. On the other hand, I have no idea why TLC would not support this project for the pennies it would cost them.
  17. Well you could slip some 1 x 1 trans plates in there, randomly or not so randomly, and the occasional 1x1 trans slope. I'm just not convinced it's worth the trouble. If we could replace the red with a better colour, I think that woudl be worth the effort. Right now the red canoe is blending with the red side of the waterfall, and you lose something with that.
  18. Truly original. That counts for more than anything else in my books. And I don't think there's anythign wrong with the waterfall. By having a plain and homogenous background (the waterfall), you direct attention to the interesting elements at the side and top of the waterfall, which otherwise would not get as much attention. Also, it would be quite hard to make a waterfall on such a small scale have "waves and splashes" because the waves and splashes would be too big, out of proportion to the whole falls. I don't think the techniques Norro used in his much larger waterfall would be equally well applied here. It's a concept, not a realistic real life diorama. I think your series of post-apocalyptic dioramas is one of the most original and clever things I have seen built with Lego in a long time. Congrats.
  19. This is a great bit of nostalgia. As Jamtf said, the kid in the old Lego pictures is indeed the current president (or whatever) of the company. Showing him as a child and 50 years later, wearing the same shirt more or less, playing with Lego..... too cheesy, but so very effective. Brilliant set. I'm gonna have one in my office, one in my home, and several in "the vault".
  20. My daughter will be ecstatic - she is a huge Ferrari fan and has every non-technic set. These sets look even nicer than in the prelim pictures. It would be awesome if they came out before Xmas - they would be amazing presents!
  21. Absolutely! Fav holiday other than Xmas. This year my two daughters are going as Naruto characters - one as Sakura, one as Naruto. We were making tombstones the other day, and are putting up our display this weekend.... I'll try to take a pic to post.
  22. LOL, Norro, I did say classic CASTLE was also an option :-) I know that's your fav set. It's up there for me too.
  23. Here's an idea. Replace all the heads with blank faces. See if the impact is greater.
  24. I'm not trying to diss the UCS MF, but you are giving it far too much credit. It's just a big honking set. The UCS MF does not represent "the brick, the firm, and the logo" at all. It is a freakishly large set, too expensive for almost anyone, too large for almost anyone, made to appeal to a teeny fraction of LEGO buyers. It is mostly about contruction, not play. It does not have much colour, or brightness, or appeal to children. And for god's sake... it's a LICENSE! Is that what LEGO is about? If we were to talk about the standard of representing "the brick, the firm, and the logo", we need to pick a town set, probably from the glory years of the 1990's. Perhaps Big Rig Truck Stop, or Park and Service Tower, or one of the classic castles already mentioned. However, this is not the question. The question is "one set you could take with you". MF UCS would do just fine for that, except you'd need to bring a wheelbarrow. Or a manservant.
  25. 1 crossbow attack as an "impulse" purchase. 1 Dwarf Mine just purchased at S@H the day it became available. TLC can credit this sale 100% to Hinckley's fun review. Had a King's Castle Siege for a week, then gave it away as a gift (the more I looked at it, the less I liked it).
