Price drop on Star Justice and Space Skulls - S@H
gylman replied to Svelte's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
This kind of irrational pricing by TLC is going to cost them AFOL money and loyalty. This set was ridiculously overpriced. Why would any AFOL rush out to buy a new set if there is a high chance of a price drop very soon. A similar thing happened with the Hobby Train set. Same happened with their original amusement park and airport sets from Lego Factory First they overprice the set like crazy. Then no one buys it, and they cut the price like crazy. It cheapens the brand and turns off the customers. That's no way to run a business. I think they haven't quite figured out the whole S@H Exclusive - AFOL buyer situation. The Cafe Corner series sets are an exception because they are so outstanding, but the others ones in the Lego Factory series have been parts packs, largely. -
Amusing post on "how to love a Lego Lunatic"
gylman replied to gylman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
LOL. Nah, I'm blessed with a very understanding wife. She (correctly) realizes that this is a hobby that is far less expensive and far more family-oriented than practically any other hobby a man can have. I don't see what beef any sensible wife would have with an AFOL husband. Would she rather he hunted? Or rode motocycles? or gambled? -

Hey Exo - happy 14th. You're a good guy (I assume you're a guy) and an asset to EB. Enjoy.

Lots of food is available from Shop@Home through the pick-a-brick selection, as well as your foliage #1

Well Legomaster, The Lego Company refers to their product as "Key Chains" not keyrings. And oddly, the Lego person who wrote you an email has the same unorthodox capitalization as you (New flashes vs Biggest). And I think you'd have a hard time finding a LEGO company employee who refers to their product as "Lego". So, please stop this foolishness.
-
No one over 12 or who has been on EB for more than a few weeks is actually believing this, are they? Do you really think that Rojhera Phirsa, employee of the Lego Company would write with such poor grammar and form? I am seriously thinking you are wasting a lot of people's time "Legomaster". I assume there will be consequences.

In Death Note, one of last years's most popular Anime shows, one of the main characters used Lego minifigs to symbolize protagonists in the various plots that went on in the show. We discussed it before. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?...eath+note\ It's a great show. Very different than most anime you have seen.

Happy birthday mate. Miss ya.

This fabuland one was the first keychain display I built. Definitely more quantity than quality. But it's surprisingly sturdy given the weight of it, and the gear mechanism moves very smoothly. Much better than my pneumatic powered one. Arrggh, don't guilt me about that other display... I know I have to finish that damnable space keychain thingie! I tried, really, but there's never any time. Eventually.....

Oooh, I got my tag! Thank you, oh mystical tagging powers of the ether! I've been collecting LEGO keychains for 5 years or so. The Fabuland ones are the hardest to get after the old castle and town ones, especially in decent condition, although a few seem to have been released in sufficient numbers to still be available in mint/sealed form. I have about 30 different Fabuland keychains (more than what is shown in those two year old pictures), but a few rare ones are missing from my collection. If anyone here has Fabuland keychains and might be willing to sell/trade, feel free to PM me. I can send a file showing the ones I still need. Bulldog, mouse, bunny, horse keychains are among the ones I am missing. I have a good number available for trading, and what I have paid (and would willingly pay) for some of these would be considered obscene by sensible people, so try me.

Gee, I love those snazzy Fabuland builder's guild tags. Can I get one if I post my Fabuland keychain display creation here (from a couple of years back I must admit). You turn the wheel in the front and the whole top layer rotates to display the various keychains. and Folder here http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=193849

Thanks for all your efforts for EB in the past years. Your contribution in growing EB to where it is today was major, and you will be missed.

Big anime fan. My desktop has been one anime scene or another for several years. This movie has the most beautiful animation I have ever seen. This picture actually does not do it justice at all. It's called Byousoku, and it's actually available for download legally on the internet. Easiest way to get it it Bittorent. Worthy of a look I assure everyone. Here are some more screen shots, some of which are actually much nicer than my desktop... I really should switch. http://images.google.ca/images?q=Byousoku+...m=1&sa=N&tab=wi

Sorry Luke, get over it. That's why this is supposed to be an ADULT Lego fan site. So we don't have to worry about offending the kiddies. If you are offended, look away from the screen. You are also likely to be taken more seriously if you communicate using properly spelled, coherent, correctly capitalized, grammatically sensible sentences. But hey.... that's just my opinion.

Cute! My kids used that same set of instructions to make something along the same line. Too bad they didn't have the same followthrough as you! -
I would vote for a bank next.

Truly an awesome review. Thanks Dunamis. I ordered my two copies (one to build, one to store in the "vault") last week. Can't wait to get this one! The attention to detail here is what makes the set great. There's nothing to criticize about this set. It's really the closest thing to perfection that I have seen from TLC. The difference between this set and CC is the interior detail, and because of that, GG now become (in my opinion) the best set EVER released by TLC. Do the CC/GG/MS sets fit well with the 50th anniv. town plan? My impression is that out of the box, at least, they don't. Which is too bad. However, I don't think it would be hard to mod the Town Plan so it looks like it belongs in the same town as CC/GG/MS. These sets, to me, are what I have always wanted from TLC as an adult. I hope they keep up the line, and add more elements to this excellent lineup.

Interesting tidbit from TLC's annual report

Well, actually, the question is what happened to City before the diaster of the late 1990's and early 2000's. I think that it probably dropped drastically at the time, and the rise we are seeing now is from a very low baseline. I would sell my soul to the devil to know how the CC line did, although the fact that we are getting GG suggests that it is doing well. City > Starwars? I find that hard to believe. -

And indeed, since these days I am as likely to be getting Czech and Mexican air, and even this is probably leaking out with the new cellophane bags that have holes in them..... the cachet of MISBie does diminish somewhat. Sigh.
-
Well, it's like having a matchbox collection. It's not the matches that make the collection, it's the boxes. The matches are useful, but interchangeable. Or looked at another way, say you have 3 LEGO sets MISB. You have three unique items worth collecting. You open them all, heap all the parts in the middle, and toss the boxes and instructions. You have a pile of bricks, not three sets. Oh, and of course, an MISB set is UTTERLY superior to an opened set. I definitely want that Billund air. :-D That's why I need two copies of every set at least. One stays in the vault/display. The other is opened and built and eventually ends up in the parts bin. :-) Oh, and the elastic band bricks!!! OMG - they're the most important part of all.. (kidding)
-
Ah.... indeed a very philosophical question. It deserves a topic all its own. As a collector, my answer would be that if you don't own the box and the instructions, but mostly the box, you don't own the set. I know people will jump all over me for saying this, but let's face it the only unique aspect of a LEGO set is the box and original instructions. Otherwise, it's just a bunch of general purpose parts. Bring it on! *skull* :-P
