Our Xmas setup. Busy trainstatin unload presents from the Christmas train. The train really is very nice. The kids love it. Jeez. I really need to get better pics. Too late though. I'm tired. Maybe tomorrow.

This is likely to be quite special for Space collectors: http://cgi.ebay.com/9355-DACTA-LEGO-SPACE-...bayphotohosting

Selling misb collection on ebay
gylman replied to SupaaSayajin's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Kirk, that was a totally offensive and unnecessary comment. That kind of attitude is not welcome on EB. Lose the attitude or leave! -
I don't believe the general population on EB, fine group of people though it may be, represents the typical Lego collector. Moreover, on eBay, at any given time there are dozens of MISB pirate sets being sold, and while most are crap sets, at any given time probably one BSB or SES is being sold MISB (right now there is one of each), not to mention the half dozen lesser ships, the Fort/Trading posts, etc. I don't think MISB pirate sets are all that rare.

New Ferrari F430 Challenge & new 1:24 F1 (UPDATE: Ferrari F1 Team)
gylman replied to DoubleT's topic in LEGO Licensed
Ferrari has been the biggest pleasant suprise from TLC in the 21st century. I just hope they don't get too repetitive. -
I've been waiting a long time for the more detailed pics. I love the rafters in the viking hall. A realistic touch I've not seen done before. That whole room is just excellent = lots of details, but not gratuitously too detailed so that it looks too busy. Making a "plank built" bridge was great too. Realistic touch. I'll be plagiarizing bits or your MOC for years to come!' What was the hardest part, technically, of doing this? Thanks in advance. Gyl

Actually Starwars, it does look kinda fun. We all know those people. Actually some of us ARE those people. I wouldn't have known about it otherwise, so thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to steal me a print of that movie.

Such are the little joys of being gainfully employed, with no other vices, no interest in cars or golf or smoking, a hard working but thrifty wife, kids in public school, and mortage paid off. I'm a lucky man. What I need from life is not money, but time and peace. Those seem to me to be more precious these days. Can't buy much time or peace with 100 bucks, but I can sure buy a cool Lego set.
-
No. I have them all, the best ones in multiple copies, most with at least 1 MISB copy. I am just too far gone down the old gray path to turn around and start anew. I don't need any more gray bricks/parts anyway, but pick them up when I see some at a good price. The only new castle set I would buy in quantity would be the hypothetic UCS castle set I have been trying to get for years http://news.lugnet.com/ambassadors/?n=51 Or any castle which Johnny Thunder and his crew visit. If a good castle comes along (unlike anything in the last 5 years from KK) I would buy a single one. I did love the Dragon Fortress from the Orient Expedition series, and have several of those.
-
old gray. Otherwise it won't matter what they release, I won't buy it in any quantity.
-
Wow, now THAT'S rare. I haven't seen a mint one for sale before. Price could really be crazy.
-
That's hilarious Optimus. Really original and good. THanks for finding that.

Hi Mike, hope you're doing well. I was there 2 Fridays running, and left a grand poorer (but much more than a grand happier). Had to destroy the invoices before I got home lest the wife find them. Mike fails to mention that he has the best selection of Lego gear I have ever seen: -flags -knapsacks -books -keychains (ha ha) -stationary Cheers. Gyl

Well, the demand for these old sets must come purely from people who grew up with them as 10 year olds, and now have jobs and enough money to spend on nostalgia. So, they are 30-40 year olds now, and trying to recapture their innocent childhood years, or playing with their own kids, saying...." you know son, these KK3 sets suck..... let me show you a CLASSIC!". And they whip out their MISB 6040 that cost 200$ and open it up, hearing the sucking sound of 200$ vanishing into thin air (and me weeping far away). And of course, their kids don't really care one way or the other..... :-X They may have another 5-10 years of interest, but I can't imagine too many 50 year olds wanting these sets, or having children of the right age. So eventually prices on these sets will definitely go down, but when that will be I can't say.

Legoland castle, 1984, MISB set 6061 (Siege tower and wall) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...98686&rd=1&rd=1 List price 17.50.................. sold for 222.50 Legoland castle, 1984, MISB 6040 (Blacksmith shop) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...33258&rd=1&rd=1 List price 9.25 .........................sold for 142.50 Legoland castle, 1984, MISB 6022 (Horse cart) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...99869&rd=1&rd=1 List price 5$................... sold for 107.50 So, they sold from 13 to 22 times the original list price. I have to say I considered the 6061 bid, but only at around 100$ But 107.50 for a 39 piece 5$ set consisting of a fig, a horse and a cart.... that takes the cake!

Well, check out the 430 Spider part inventory on peeron. http://www.peeron.com/cgi-bin/invcgis/inv/...-1?withpics=yes Tons of basic bricks, plates, curved top bricks, little ones, big ones. This is a brick built car, but it's almost SNOT. No technic pieces (almost), almost no useless crap that goes into the parts bin. And it can be bought for 20-30$ on sale! The same cannot be said for the Onfir Dragon (IMHO).
-
OMG. I can see 4 sets here which are better than anything in the other two "semi finals". Anway, since I can only vote for one, I chose the Ferrari Spider. It is a fun build, feels solid as hell, looks great (even better without most of the stickers), and has a million useful parts. It's now the second time the Ferrari line had the best set of the year (IMHO) - last time being the Scudaria Truck. And I don't even like cars!! 8-|

Very very nice. I love the armoire. I love it all. Good luck in the contest - you should do well with that entry.

sounds like a fun idea, as long as it does not become a spam thread for every single auction on eBay. Let's try to reserve only the craziest of the crazy prices for this thread.
-
I was interested in that old hospital set myself, but the price was insane. Even a 5 minifig set, 6301 also 6302, by the same seller, went for insane prices (60-80 Euro!). Crazy. But it shows that MISBs retain their value very nicely for now. http://cgi.ebay.com/80-LEGO-6301-OLD-TOWN-...1QQcmdZViewItem This seller has wonderful old stuff.
-
It could be... the AFOLs willing to buy that stuff would have been kids 20-30 years ago, who buy it for nostalgia. That pool of people should slowly be dwindling, as they get older and drift into other interests. There will always be that hard core that drives up the costs for true collectors' items like MISBs. Also, though, this is not a good time of year to try to sell non-MISB sets because people can't realyl give those as presents, and there is a call for the money elsewhere. Too early to make any generalizations...
-
not a bad guess on my part... about 170$ US.

Well, finally, after endless delays, I finished it (spurred on by the CCC4) Brickshelf folder is available. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=216584 And here's a teaser: Pneumatic powered this time. One more left to go - for my space keychains. Classic space, of course....none of that new fangled SW business.

wow wow wow! On the one hand, very simple lines, very clean, uncluttered. Colours are very carefully chosen and used. Nothing is random. On the other hand, beautiful little details. And the inside details! So nice. I could look at these pictures all day. It's because of castles like this that I never try to build big castles. In my wildest dreams, with all the time and pieces available as needed, I could not match this. Thanks.
