  1. The only theoretically useful part I see here (more or less) is the red dinosaur tail tip. So far I have found these sets quite lame, but this one is clearly the worst.
  2. Cute Hard to get the scale right. If i go anywhere, are you interested in a few Johnny pics?
  3. The best of 2006. Hmmm. Easy to forget some good ones, so I'll make some suggestions, since there's more to Lego life than Batman, ExoFarce, and Starwars Please include the Ferari 430 Spider 8671 Roaring Roadsters 4896 mythical creatures 4894 My personal favourite from 2006 was actually the Ferrari Spider. Great build, solid as heck, and looks awesome on the desk of any adult. Unless you have built this model, you cannot appreciate how good it is, IMO.
  4. Agree with you Nathan. It's not a quantity issue. New gray looks shiny and too clean. It is more suited to modeling kitchen applicances than castle walls. If I hadn't seen old gray, I would probably have lived just fine with the new gray. But having gotten used to the old one, I just can't stand the new one, and mixing the two is totally impossible.
  5. It was leftover stock. Not routinely available. If you order grey, typically you get the new gray. But because the bag number was less than 10,000 I wondered if it was old gray, bought one, and sure enough!! :-) They still have the 2x8 bricks, but not on sale. I don't see 2x2, but I am only looking in the Canada store. http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Leaf.aspx?cn=213&d=297 (in Canada). See the 2x8 bag is item number 3464 (old gray), and the fences bag is 10050 (new gray). I'm not sure if this rule is reliable (>10,000 means new colours for bulk bricks) , but for example, when I bought 10150 (brown plates) its was new brown, to my disappointment, which fits.
  6. I have no expectation of TLC going back to old gray. I have enough old gray for my foreseeable future, factoring in my age and life expectancy, the kind and size of thing I build (which is not huge, typically 1-5K pieces) and the size of my house which limits how much I can store, and how much I can display, at one time. Even so, I am always picking up some more here and there. My biggest "get" was a used ISD from the initial runs with old gray. The amount of old gray plates (light and dark) is mindboggling. It's not as good for bricks. Recently shop at home was selling old gray 2x8 bricks at 1/2 price. I bought 1 to make sure it was old gray, and then when it was, I quickly bought about 30 bags. Brown is actually a bit more of a problem for me - I always find myself looking for brown bits on bricklink.
  7. Sounds good. I hope it's not just wishful thinking. When I see TLC breaking the mold for that giant wall piece, I'll rejoice. http://peeron.com/inv/parts/48490 And it still won't address the bley issue, which is not going away for me. Faced with a choice bewteen buying old castle sets for parts on eBay, and buying new castle sets for parts from TLC, I invariably choose eBay. So far bley has not entered my structures except as a filler brick. I thought I would be over the gray/bley thing by 2007, but it seems that I am not. The brown colour change has emerged as a significant problem too. Also, I think that as of last year, when EB got into bed with TLC (or at least sat on the edge of the bed together, glancing deeply into each others eyes), you can't count on EB for true leaks any more.
  8. Tyco made a lego compatible brick in the past. Occasionally I find them mixed in with my batch lego. In my opinion, comparing to Best Lock, Megablok, Tyco had the best brick. Of course, compared to Lego they sucked big time.
  9. Good silvery stuff. Nice use of all those weapons (I never found much use for them in the days when I built Bionicle stuff). He looks well proportioned. The legs look sturdy too - how much movemetn do they have? The only significant criticism is the head - I always found it impossible to build a good looking head. when my MOC was big, it was too big for one of the masks, but I never could make a decent face with parts. Anyway. Nice work.
  10. One question: what is that piece that you used as the turning handle for the well (4 spokes, brown) THanks. Gyl
  11. It is excellent - I can see all the effort that went into the detailing. The interior bits are amazing. I always feel a bit reluctant to "criticize" when I doubt I could do better, but..... I presume that you wanted some constuctive criticism, and this is only my personal opinion, but, I think it looks too cluttered. There are too many details, and the colour scheme is too varied. This may have been intentional - you have created a busy, active, hectic looking town scene, perhaps more realistic than the idealized castles that are made by most builders. However, the most memorable castle MOCs I have seen have had a very strict colour scheme for the buildings, and the people and details that went into them did not overwhelm the structure itself. There is a confusion of different types of soldiers - this may be a cost issue, but if you could get them to all be part or the same army, that would help. If you think of getting rid of any one colour in the walls, get rid of the yellow. Again, this is not to say that your MOC isn't amazing, or that I didn't wish it was sitting on my table rather than yours. It really is excellent. Cheers. Gyl
  12. LOL. Oh yeah. OK, we'll see if the castle people a good sense of humor. Now I have no excuses. I have a day off on Friday.... maybe I'll finish that thing already. It's been sitting on my desk for a month, 95% done... Part of the reason I quit was because some other EB member (who shall remain namelss) made a MOC that was so spectacular that I got discouraged. :-) Thanks Apo, Nathan. Gyl
  13. Well, I could be wrong, but I have seen sets with boxes and instructions, not quite as good as this one admittedly, typically go for 125 - 150. I wouldn't pay more than 200$ for it for sure, but sometimes those crazy Korean bidders go to prices that I would never imagine. They usually only bid on MISB sets, and the gap between MISB and non-MISB, especially for such rare sets, is huge. Let's see how it goes..... I'm curious too. It is not my impression that non-MISB sets go up in value near Xmas.
  14. Jeez, no place where can enter "castle oriented keychain display systems". Darn. I guess I won't be able to enter. There goes my only incentive to ever finish that display castle.
  15. prediction: 200$ +/- prediction: 200$ +/- for the yellow castle which is opened, but looks to be perfect condition. 6080 incomplete with no box..... 50 bucks maybe.
  16. I assume you will be entering your masterpiece..... then we can finally see detailed pictures.
  17. For some wierd reason they are showing that little crappy car as the main picture for the set. But you can see on the alternate picture, it is a truck that can haul a few cars. Still, I don't have a good sense of what this set looks like - it would be nice to have a useful picture. Gads, what lousy marketing.
  18. Although they were easily the worst of the castle sets pre KK, in the end, they were better than anything that followed after. Just part of a long steady decline that has not yet been halted. I have 3 copies of 6097, and it's a fun set. Good parts and if bought used without the box/instructions, usually can be had for a VERY low price on eBay (25-30$) Now 6087, Witch's magic manor.... THAT's a fugly crappy set. Also a good parts pack, but for some reason it is not as cheap on eBay relative to its original price as 6097. Great source of burps'n lurps, though. And of course, having old gray elements has actually increased their value compared to a few years ago.
  19. Hey Jinzo, where is that crazy sig picture from (of the bunny monsters attacking that guy). I can't stop looking at it.... HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!~
  20. I don't think what I said was directly anti-religious. Jefferson was a devout christian, and what he said about freedom of worship was not anti-religious. The problem with religion is the "compulsion". People who try to show how peaceful Islam is often quote the Koran as saying "There is no compulsion in religion", and this as being proof of the peaceful nature of Islam. However, that's only part of the phrase. What it actually says in Koran is: "There is no compulsion in religion, for the right way is clearly from the wrong way." And that's where the problems come from... the notion that someone is right, and therefore those who do not believe same are "wrong". From there it's a short hop, skip, and jump to crusades, concentration camps, and the grim future of religious and cultural warfarre that will be coming to a country near you in the next 10-50 years. I don't see too many militant atheists blowing themselves up in the name of nonbelief.
  21. Wait, I don't get it.... is this the first release of a "2007" set? It is available now.
  22. The thought is nice, the intentions are good, and I agree with the principle. But the reality of identifying "ladies" on male-centric forums frequented by large number of relatively young males (speaking as a 40+ person myself) may not be what the ladies are looking for.
  23. I would, like others have already done, suggest that we ask our 3-5 female members whether they care about this, or want it to be implemented. I have my doubts.
  24. I predict the Brickster (a.k.a the Pollster) will have that for us in less than 1-2 days! Metro Park & Service Tower gets my vote. It had BETTER be on his list!! *skull* http://guide.lugnet.com/set/6394
  25. Jeez Jinzo, where do you live? Sounds like a police state!
