  1. Wow! It sounds like TLC really took to heart some of the comments the AFOLs have made in the last couple of years. A modular city building system came up frequently on the suggestions. This could be excellent!!
  2. I've done it tons of times, usually for technic sets, less often for town or castles. Instructions from Peeron or the other site (forgot the name). The problem is this.... I build the model from spare parts. Then, I love it so much that I end up feeling like I need to have one with a good box and nice instructions. So, most of the time I end up buying it either MISB or MIB on eBay or Bricklink . Money saved = NIL! Rarely, the model disappoints and I end up glad I built it from spares.
  3. Get rid of any wall piece bigger than this: Get rid of all catapults Get rid of all stickers except maybe shields/torsos. No BURPS, LURPS or TURDS Get rid of any piece that has ever been or might ever be, in a Bionicle set. (no offense to Bionicle, which I like just fine... but not in my castles) Recognize that shiny bluish gray is not an appealing colour for a castle wall. For a start, anyway. Then we can talk about design details.
  4. Meh. it's a Canadian inside joke. So many Canadians leave Canada for 3-6 months and stay in Florida every year. Look who sponsors it..... Florida Tourism. It's a paid advertising. EDIT: OOOH! my 1k post! WOOTNESS!
  5. LOL. The wheels definitely turn. For the money, this is a great little set. Highly recommended as a birthday gift or travel toy. So far my fav set of 2007 (that I have actually bought and built)
  6. Congrats! Soon there will be a bunch of little Athoses (Athi? :-) ) to impart all those vig techniques to. But remember, their little hands can't even hold regular bricks until age 4-6. Be patient with them. Good luck with married life. I highly recommend it.
  7. This is the third year of the new style calendar, which basically is a minifig pack with a bunch of assorted parts, and no real common theme. While I buy these, they do not compare to the older ones, when we assembled reindeer, santa, elves, presents, and other Christmasy things.
  8. Other than the creator sets and some of the town sets, I find myself lacking in enthusiasm for these. What's with the colour schemes on some of these technic sets and the motorized dinosaur? Other than the Ferrari, which at least is consistently red, the others look like a mishmash of oddly coloured parts: green, red, dark gray, light gray, transgreen, and whatever other colour parts they had in the bin, it seems. Although I have been a big fan of the Ferrari line, it looks like they have run out of ideas. The creator truck is a very pleasant surprise. The castle is OK, but it has more in common with Battle at the Pass and Mistland Tower, than with the castles that I love from the 1980's and 90's. I am thinking I probably won't end up buying it. The bulldozer.... maybe not as great as I thought it was at first. If they have a new power system which is not compatible with 2x2 9V, that would be highly disappointing. I'll reserve judgement about this set.
  9. I appreciate the effort Brickster. I'm going with the Flag picture. I just photographed it off my wall. The ones you made feature the characters nicely, but the flag is just more "action packed". Here it is, resized for screen viewing and upload (it looks much nicer in the actual photo)
  10. Jeez Steve if you don't know, who would?? Graphic art, I think, with a nice background. A good example would be the box pic for the Aero Nomad http://guide.lugnet.com/set/?q=7415_1&v=z Except that Johnny should be much bigger and centred and Pippin and the prof beside him. The Adventurers retail display flag http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?G=OriExpBan1 Is the best I can find so far. BTW, I actually have this flag hanging on the wall of our Lego Room X-D It's awesome.
  11. If you like buildings, then I recommend Building Bonanza The more recent model House is also good. Both have lots of roof pieces, though, which are not that useful unless you only build houses. If you like vehicles, I recommend F430 Ferrari from 2006 Gear Grinders is a great set for small car building, often available for very low prices on eBay. If you like castles, Vladek's Dark Fortress has lots of parts for incredibly low prices on ebay, but there will be a lot of parts you don't know what to do with. Still, value for money. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-LEGOS-Knights-King...1QQcmdZViewItem Just a few thoughts.
  12. My daughter is having her birthday party in a couple of weeks, and she wants to get her cake with a picture of the Adventurers on it. I've been looking for a good action shot of Johhny, Pippin, and the Professor that would go on her cake, but really no luck so far. Googling images didn't really reveal anything really good. Does anyone recall seeing anything that woudl be good? Orient expedition theme would be best, but not mandatory. It shoudl be reasonably high resolution as it will be made into a 5 x 7 photo, and then that is used to make the cake picture. Feel free to post a link to a good pic. Thanks for any help. Gyl
  13. What I meant about brick-built cars was that different people like to build different things. -castles -scenes -city houses -keychain display systems Not all Lego people like cars, and probably not that many at all would like them enough to pay the 100-200$ that these sets would, at a minimum, cost.
  14. I have serious doubts about the marketability of the car sets except to a small number of 1) AFOLS 2) with lots of money 3) who like brick-built cars THey are nice to look at, but I can't imagine ever buying one for the kind of money they are likely to cost. I like the houses better than the cars, but I am not a fan of the colour scheme they used. I wonder if Lego would make a "house" series, representing home and building contruction styles from all over the world. They could release two each year, and people would (I would, anyway) collect them.
  15. A word of caution re: the Hogwarts. Is there a picture? Maybe I am wrong, but unless a picture shows otherwise, this will not be much of a castle. Here's why I think so. Toywiz prices are usually incredibly inflated. For example, Bikini Bottom sells for $40, but TW is selling it for 67.99 So, a 100$ Hogwart set on Toywiz is probably a 60-70 dollar Lego set. At best. They usually jack up the prices even more on presales. I am not convinced a 60-70$ Hogwarts will be any good. The others from 2001 and 2004 were $90. The 2004 set was good, but personally I thought the first one sucked badly. I don't think Lego can deliver a decent Hogwarts for 60-70 bucks in 2007. Just theory of course...
  16. For non-sets, Bricklink is vastly superior to lego S@H in both price and selection. Both stores you mentioned are reliable - I've had multiple purchases from both, with never a problem. Don't expect delivery within 2 days of ordering, and don't pester them. Are you in Canada? I vaguely recall that you are. If yes, then if you buy big-time from Mike Nemeth (Troy's) remember there will be customs issues. Lego Techcetera is another good Canadian stores. For sets, you can't top Lasting Toys Inc. for selection. Heck, if you are near Toronto, visit the store personally - it's excellent. Another piece of advice.. if you are buying bricks and selected items from Bricklink to make a MOC, don't spend all the money at once. YOu can never predict all the bricks and elements you need, and you will always make secondary purchases. Spent only 2/3 of the money, and save the rest for the finishing touches you will need. If you are committed to buying from a store, but run out of time, put in only part of the order. They will always let you add to the order in the next few days... just tell them you will do that. This way you don't make a huge shopping cart, then lose the whole thing. But, don't make an order, and then change your mind.... Good luck.
  17. It's RX sprinter and Big Bling Wheelie http://guide.lugnet.com/set/8658 http://guide.lugnet.com/set/8655 2005 racers, routinely available for sale on eBay, and routinely found in many bargain bins of toy and large department stores.
  18. Although it is not perfect, I have found Lego's S@H to be the most reliable online place to buy stuff in the past. Yes, yes, occasionally we get the dinged box, but I buy tons of stuff online, and I can't think of a better experience on average than S@H. I hope this PFSWeb company doesn't screw that up. In general I am nervous about the whole outsourcing thing.... but on the other hand we do want the company to survive so I guess there is no choice.
  19. Interesting. The harvester/combine is pretty typical of what Technic has been doing in the last 1-2 years. Not great. HOwever, the bulldozer is a different story :-) I see some technic beams. Quite a few, actually, in the bulldozer. Yay! They didn't break the molds. :-| It is a very unusual set for Technic with so many electronic functions. Very original compared to recent offerings. I have long wished for some RC functionality in the good technic sets. Until now you had to customize them to achieve this. As pointed out by Simon, lots of NXT type components, and if that set comes in under 200$ I will be surprised. For a bit more you can buy NXT. Speaking of which, do people have the impression that NXT is not doing too great? First, you can get it discounted like crazy on eBay. Second, it rarely ranks highly in sales on S@H - usualy does not rank in top 25. I personally did not buy it because I did not like the new motors, and did not want to waste my investment in Mindstorms. I wonder if they are using this bulldozer to help transition some people to NXT.
  20. WOW!!!!!! The house is like a work a art, and the Ferris wheel is nice too, especially for parts. MULTIPLES!! I think I am "beasted out" on creator sets, but I will no doubt get at least one copy of that one too
  21. Well, the last two tanks we have seen, from Exo Force and from Dino2000, were both rather feeble. I fear it will be recycling of that kind of model .
  22. Wow. Look at all those figs. Many good ones too - I see a bucket o'pirates, and a few castle. Also, you may be able to leverage (i.e. sell) that 12V stuff for significant amounts of money and get some other stuff with it. That IS a good gift for a legoholic. Congrats.
  23. Fair enough... except I believe you had previously had a picture of yourself, which alegedly is a picture of another person (according to kennysze1511). This picture seems to no longer be in your profile. That seems suspicious, or at least unusual. Almost no one puts pictures of themselves in their profiles upon first joining a site, and why then would it disappear with your next post?
  24. Hey, welcome! I've been at Minifigs.net lots of times. Just awesome. Pleased to have you here. Why on earth would some dweeb want to impersonate you, and even with your own picture. That's just stupid. Enjoy EB. Gyl
  25. Will the real Kenny Sze please stand up! :-) Actually, I would assume KennySze1511 is the real deal. If the first KennySze can be proven to be an imposter, we should deregister this person. Gyl
