Lego Ideas 90th Anniversary Fan Vote
AmperZand replied to Calanon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Nope. If you have an older VIP account like mine, you are excluded from voting. It seems that LEGO's most loyal supporters (at least in terms of duration) are the least important to the company. I suspect that people like me would vote more for Castle, Classic Space or Pirates than Bionicle, so it isn't a fair chance. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 21. Rumors and discussion
AmperZand replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
@admiral_typhoon, @Anonknee Muss, @N8thanAshley2, I should be returning to Sainsbury’s later this week for food shopping. If they have any of the CMFs left, I can feel and get them for you at cost (£3.50) plus P&P at cost. No need to pay me until you had received them. Please PM me if you’re interested. I wear PPE gloves that I clean with hand sanitiser before feeling the packets in store and can do the same when packaging the packets. From the time I buy them to the time you receive them will be at least 4 or 5 days which should be long enough for any virus from other shoppers/Sainsbury’s staff who may have touched the packets to have died. -

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 21. Rumors and discussion

Indeed. It was a few years ago and I don’t know if the law has changed since, likely not much. Nowadays, the police require a warrant from a Magistrates’ Court obtainable if the police have ‘reasonable grounds to believe an offence was being committed on the premises’. The problem is what constitutes ‘reasonable grounds’. In that nurse’s case, ‘reasonable grounds’ seems to have been the purchase of items associated with supplying drugs. I don’t know if the police divulged to the Court that issued the warrant who the informant was. That may have influenced the Court’s decision. Either way, the worrying aspect is the absence of the presumption of innocence. I can imagine lots of perfectly legal uses - besides LEGO - for precise scales and baggies: beading/jewellery making, numismatics, herbal remedies dispensing, watch making (for the tiny components), and re-selling baggies to name a few. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 21. Rumors and discussion

The last I heard was that she was seeking compensation but had been been advised by a solicitor not to discuss the matter any further in public. If you're in the UK, you don't have to believe me. Just order some high precision pocket scales and baggies from the same online shop (best one in the UK), sit back and wait for your door to be broken down. Simples. Please don't say I didn't warn you though when a policeman winds up dragging you out of your bed by your hair. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 21. Rumors and discussion
AmperZand replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
If you live in the UK, be very careful about buying high precision pocket or other small-format scales especially if you are also buying small component baggies from the same place. You will eventually be raided by the police at some unearthly hour. They will ruin your home including any LEGO you have on display. You can expect them to spill all of your LEGO pieces on the floor leaving you with the Herculean task of re-sorting them. If you then complain/seek compensation for the raid and damage, the police will claim that they were acting ‘on intelligence’ without specifying what that ‘intelligence’ was only that it came from a ‘confidential source’. Think I’m kidding? Exactly that happened to an AFOL a few years ago. She was a nurse living alone in a home she had lived in for years. She had never been in trouble with the law; she didn’t even have a parking ticket to her name. She certainly didn’t have anything to do with illegal drugs. Think you live in a free country because you live in the UK? Pffff! -
Forgotten in Garage - Unopened Castle Sets
AmperZand replied to natesroom's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Wow! Those are some really cool sets. You're lucky to have found them. I have The Lonely Mountain set (79018) which I bought in 2014 but still haven't got round to opening. I intend to heavily mod the Erebor structures when I do. I wasn't crazy about the lower front of Dragon Mountain (your picture, left). The open access and gaps bothered me so I modded them. On the lower right, I just filled the gaps (not pictured). On the left, the mod was a bit more substantial; I added a secret door (see picture). The rest of the structure is mostly as designed by LEGO, sans catapult. -
I was going to say there was a limited release of CS in the US in ‘78, but @Aanchir beat me to it I was living in Europe in ‘78 and ‘79 and don’t remember seeing any CS on toy store/department shelves or in marketing collateral such as catalogues until ‘79.

I suspect that some of the City Space sets over the last 10 years, but especially 2019’s range, were inspired by CS.

That’s brilliant! Thank you for putting a smile on my face

Once every six days, give or take, seems like a lot. I thought I had it bad! Jason, That's one order every day-and-a-bit! Presumably, you're acquiring pieces for a particular mod or MOC; or are you just building up a stock of parts for modding/MOCing in the future? Do you know how long you will keep up your current pace of ordering? Having been a member for a short time does reveal a flaw in my methodology for those new to BrickLink. If, for example, someone has only been a member for exactly a day and has placed three orders in that time, their rate will be one order every eight hours. Either the length of membership needs to be considered with the rate or the method should be confined to those who have been buying on BrickLink for at least six months.

My fantasy mods of the Series 21 CMFs. The mermaid's trident isn't purist. If impurity bothers you, imagine the minifigure with a LEGO spear instead. I had to recolour the centauride's ears; unfortunately, that hair piece doesn't come with yellow ears. I also gave her a LEGO longbow, not the short bow included with her. The Mayan warrior - officially, the Ancient Warrior - is as sold. I included him and the dolphin for completion. They aren't modded. Questions? Comments? Ladybothered?

I was curious how often I was buying on BrickLink. Turns out, it's almost once every two weeks since 2006 . Of course, orders can be of different sizes, but even so, seems like a lot. To calculate it, I used the number of feedbacks as a proxy for purchases which, I realise, is an underestimation because some sellers don't provide feedback. BrickLink provides your joining date, i.e. Member Since {date}. In my case, it's a day in 2006. Using a date duration calculator such as this one, I worked out the number of days since becoming a member. It's then a simple matter of dividing the number of days by the feedbacks to approximate days per order. Mine is just over 14 or two weeks. Scary! What's yours? You can add BrickOwl, Lego Ebay etc purchase rates but I'm not sure where you get the duration and number of orders figures from on those platforms.

Nylon thread is sold under three categories: beading thread, invisible thread (what you used) and fishing wire. If using beading thread, it’s important to get the non-stretchy kind (unless you want your suspended LEGO to bounce). The other two don’t stretch anyway. I don’t know if the Command fasteners are reliable. I have rafters, so use thin nails (called ‘pins’ by chippies) that, once in place, I hammer so that the part of the nail that isn’t imbedded in the rafter is bent round. That ensures the nylon thread won’t slip off the end of the nail and that I won’t hit my head against the nail either! Unrelated to suspending the LEGO, I have to point out that you really, really want to relocate your collection. It’s under a skylight. You should never expose LEGO to sunlight if you can help it. It catalyses the degradation of LEGO causing it to discolour and maybe even crack/lose its structural integrity.

What would you like for the next Castle line?
AmperZand replied to Robert8's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The CMF S1 Forestman (pictured below) had an updated design of a 1980s Forestman’s torso. Is that the sort of design you had in mind? I would be OK with that but would also be fine with the more stylised, plainer original Forestmen’s look. Both work for me. -
Thank you for that picture. I literally LOLed

Lego Ideas 90th Anniversary Fan Vote
AmperZand replied to Calanon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It really wouldn’t surprise at all if it turned out that a decision had already been made by one team (possibly product development) but was being resisted by another team or senior person, and the survey is just needed to make the business case by the proposer. We may never know however. -

LOL! Good point. I would be happy if any of those won or Dragon Knights or Classic Space. I suspect that LEGO will take the survey’s result as advisory, not binding. It may already have mostly decided and is just looking for confirmation before fully committing itself. -
Lego Ideas 90th Anniversary Fan Vote
AmperZand replied to Calanon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I could but would need to use a different email address which is a nuisance. Also, if there are any benefits to having your usual LEGO account (and VIP status) linked to your LEGO account for Ideas, I wouldn’t get them. There may not have been any and there may be none now (I don’t know), but I wouldn’t get any future ones. If LEGO ever found out I had two accounts, they may penalise me for that even though the reason for doing that is LEGO’s fault (bureaucracies rarely recognise the reasons of others or admit their own mistakes). -

Basically, yes. LEGO knows it’s an issue but refuses to put its IT house in order. Shameful really. -
Lego Ideas 90th Anniversary Fan Vote
AmperZand replied to Calanon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I suspect that it’s because of political sensitivity. I can’t vote because I have an older LEGO account that can’t be integrated with Ideas, keeping me and others with older LEGO accounts out of any Ideas vote - which is extremely unfair. If I could vote, it would be for Classic Space, Dragon Knights and either Lion Knights or Forestmen. I can understand why Bionicles’ fans support it but feel that it isn’t suitable for an anniversary set. To the wider public and to many AFOLs, Bionicles doesn’t represent mainstream LEGO, lacking as it does minifigures and conventional LEGO bricks. -
In the forthcoming Medieval Blacksmith set, there’s a new horse. The mould is the same as the existing horse, but the colour is new for that part.

In addition to the reasons already stated in this thread (with which I agree), I suspect that LEGO wouldn’t do ST as long as it was doing SW even if it could because the sales would cannibalise each other. In other words, LEGO ST would be competing for much the same market as LEGO SW and it is never a good thing when a company competes with itself. I haven’t looked but there may be fan-produced LEGO instructions for ST vessels available online either for free or for purchase. That’s my guess. My avatar says: ‘That would be logical.’

UK TLG customer service accessible?
AmperZand replied to Fuppylodders's topic in General LEGO Discussion
@Fuppylodders, What number did you call them on? If you can, try calling them very early (as soon as lines open) or very late (just before they are scheduled to close). The latter might not sound sensible but it actually works quite well because your call gets diverted to LEGO’s call centre in the US. The call doesn’t cost you extra.
