You missed that train by about a year. Elphaba supplied these items but I don't think she'll be coming back to Eubric any time soon after the events of 100.

I really didn't like it. I really see now why people bash on Christopher Nolan (Dark Knight Rises wasn't as horrible as some others said IMO, but this has proven to me that the doubts with that film are justified for this one. I'll just put the rest in spoiler tags. So, that's my take on it. I'm well aware that it differs from that of the mainstream critics and the general public, but I really didn't enjoy this film. I also recently watched Gravity which I held to high expectations because it won like every single Oscar, but I also hated that so... maybe space films (not sci-fi) just aren't for me. Except for Moon. Moon was awesome.

Teen Titans live-action show to begin filming in 2015. I don't usually visit this thread, but as a huge fan of the original Teen Titans cartoon, I'm psyched for this. It's not confirmed to follow any storyline from that series, but it sounds like it takes place a little farther in the future because they have (Dick Grayson) Nightwing instead of Robin. Raven and Starfire are also confirmed, I just hope Cyborg and Beastboy are also included. It'd be interesting if they picked up on what happened with Terra, Slade and Raven if there are to be any ties between this show and the original.

At this point most people wouldn't have to discard cards. The ratio of high-to-low level cards would be unaffected because they were randomly selected. Well, so far Guts is the only one with more than 25 (or even 20) cards, so maybe a solution would be to add the cap now, and return his most recent purchase? I hate to jip one player, but in the sense of fairness... The cap would also help things in the way of item exchanges - there would be a huge surplus of valuable bombs, gems and other items if people were just allowed to buy unlimited cards.
-
Why not just have a deck cap? 30 cards, 20?

Quest 111 was great, Khorne. I can only compliment you further on the wonderful job you did with retaining the image of Dastan as we (the Dastan trilogy QMs + Flipz) have left it after 29, 30, 31, 59, 104 and the quests relating to the characters from Dastan. The shift from exterior threats to pressing interior issues of the country were represented very well in this quest: the return of Dragons, the remaining in-fighting and negotiations of the people, and the after-effects of the war. There was even more depth added because you largely used the viewpoint of the common people and military personnel, which is something that I think was skipped over a lot in the original trilogy. And of course, you added a whole new story of your own by exploring a previously-untouched part of the continent and tying in the stories of the Polkung, Norsemen, Dastanese, Cyclopses and Taurians. I thought the background story and writing was superb, and would really like to see more quests from you. The only part I think could've went more smoothly was towards the end, from the pub-trawling through the steppe navigation. Things felt a bit slow there and it took a while to get to the precipice of the story, which turned out to be less satisfactory for the heroes than anticipated. I'd like to see a follow-up quest someday that reflects on the consequences of the decision to not follow the ex-Paladin right away. Perhaps by then he will have fully turned to the ways of the Norse shaman, and the conflict between him and the Paladin Order has increased. I hope the story continues because it seems interesting and it seems like it would offer more lore with this part of Olegaia. I thought the PC's did a decent job. Their interactions with NPCs were believable and mostly interesting, but I think the inner-party interaction could have been better. Leo seemed a bit generic and similar to Alexandre, and his accent was a little inconsistent/felt unnecessary. In my opinion he's too similar to Alexandre to warrant a second character - try to branch out and try new things, possibly put yourself in place with a character that you're not comfortable or used to playing as! Lynne was bit hard to understand, mostly I think because I have not followed the quests that she's been in too closely. Endgame, perhaps you could emphasize more that she's her own character now and make more references to her past, because it seems like it's assumed that everyone would already know all about her. From the perspective of someone who does not, it's hard to understand where she's coming from. But like WBD said, the motherly nature of Lynne is definitely there, so I think that's a plus for her character. I'm really sad to see Polly go. She was my favorite new character, and I thought she had a lot of potential. The idea to make a child hero that has very childlike thoughts and does childlike things was a very unique one, and I think it could have offered a lot of room for development in the areas of maturity and independence. I was looking forward to her becoming an Evoker so that Mr. Sanders could become a reality, which would've been a huge turning point for her as a character as well. I also liked how you tied her into Skrall's story (as per the original rules for a second character), and it's also disappointing that she never found what she was looking for. I'd urge you, Waterbrick Down, to reconsider ditching Polly right away (at least give it another quest or two?) and give her a chance, but it seems like you've already made up your mind. You'd know better than anyone if she had potential, so I guess it's for the better. I look forward to the next character idea that you've come up with.

Sandy's Note: I'm so sorry! I accidentally edited your post although I meant to quote it!

No, a Chi Monk imbues a weaponless physical attack with an element. Because it uses ether, the imbued attack is magical. Martial Hits aren't spells, though, and do take row into account. For a Mystic Knight's Spellblade Spin, the same concept applies but to a weapon. The attack is not a spell, but is physical and additional weapon effects and elements do apply (as does row). I think this was a change made between the old SHIELD roll "Spellspin" (which consisted of spell attacks) and the current one, which I had to check when you were running the Hydra battle in 116. Because if it were a spell, Hoke's Wasabi Blade's fire element would not have come into effect and the battle would not have been won that way.

That's what the rules say. You alternate going first between players.

Well, I trust you as an impartial judge and runner of the tournament. And I'd like to trust everyone else too, but the fact of the matter is that people are going to cheat if it's possible. Even if the prizes are only virtual. I would suggest a PM for every hand selected, or some sort of off-site method that would be easier (?) so that it's not possible to switch hands in the middle of a round. What happens when I and, say, Asphalt are four matches deep and I know he hasn't played his Glow Worm yet. Knowing that I can beat it with a card I didn't put in my hand for that round, I might just pull said card from my deck and play it to win. Not that I would ever do such a thing (and I hope none of you would either), but it's bound to happen. It sucks especially because we're just doing this for fun, but there has to be regulation. People could also forget what they chose for their hands and the result would be the same.

Heroica RPG - Quest #118: The Tale of the Stolen Spirits

OOC: Oh... duh. Hybros instead pockets the Remedy, looking over to Ellaria. "Can you heal yourself? I could use the extra time to take down this golem, eheh..." Hybros downs a potion in the back row and attacks the Golem Clerk from the front row.- 506 replies

It's a real word, but it's not commonly used in English (at least not in the States) anymore, which is probably why it's marked incorrect on your browser. "Analysis" is the noun form of the word that is used the most often. Adding to Flipz's comment about the Gargoyle card, I also think the Storm Elemental and Sphinx enemies are really cool looking. Although it's confusing that the Storm Elemental itself uses the same piece that is used as the Ethereal symbol for Decamon.

Heroica RPG - Quest #118: The Tale of the Stolen Spirits
JimBee replied to Flipz's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Agh..." Hybros covers his one good eye, which was now blinded. He stumbles backwards and manages to grab a Remedy from his pack. He then tries to fend off the Clerk Golem with a feeble string of darkness. OOC: Do Martial Hits count as physical attacks? I'm using ether, but they're not exactly spells, either... Also, in Docken's defense, he's also immune to positive effect removal so he should keep his Scary and Trial effects because of that.- 506 replies

Yes, exactly. That's what I mean - players starting with only 5 cards have the chance to increase their deck size in the first round so that when they go on to face other PCs, their hand isn't as predictable. Analysis is the word you're looking for.

It states in the rules that hands are kept hidden from the other player. In the case where a player's deck is only 5 cards, it's easy to know their hand but my guess is that the first matches (PCs vs. NPCs) will offer a chance for everyone to get on more equal footing. Maybe Sandy will make easy matches for those who didn't have enough gold for good cards, and harder for those that did. But the cards picked by Sandy are likely logical without bias - there are only so many cards that an NPC could play that would trump a PC's card - they'll use these to win in a logical way. I doubt Sandy would "cheat" by looking forward to the hand picked by the PC and choosing the NPC's cards in the best order possible - he probably doesn't have that much time in his hands and will probably try to be as fair as possible.

Heroica RPG - Quest #118: The Tale of the Stolen Spirits
JimBee replied to Flipz's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Docken, you could try to blind the Golem Rogue." Hybros advances towards the Golem Clerk, using darkness magic from the front row with both turns. "You... are the one from town?" He had his doubts about speaking to what seemed to be a shadow of a person, but there was no sense in not trying.- 506 replies

Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
JimBee replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
Oops, I meant Mage ACs. I suppose you're right about the fact that the only thing that changes is the multiplier, which is also changed by row as well as element vs. no element (the way it is currently). With that in mind, I wouldn't be that opposed to such a change. -
Agreed. It's something that's done in many RPGs and I think it works well. There'd have to be some coordination with QMs, though, just so a full set wouldn't have to be dropped in the same quest (making it easy to get a complete set).

Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
JimBee replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
Why does a niche need to be created? I feel like each Advanced Class (in the set of ACs) is unique enough. Mystic Knights have some pretty unique abilities, and Battle Mages hit harder and more often than any other AC. I see your point about the ability to imbue attacks, but I just don't think it would be fair. Spellcasting is a really powerful and flexible ability as it is, and the tradeoff is that casting spells doesn't incur any weapon effects. I've always liked that rule and think it's a good way to balance things. Any mage class can still choose to attack normally like any other class, too, if they really want to use their weapon's effects. Chi Monks can imbue attacks, but they can't use weapons so their "spellcasting" is often less powerful than that of any other spellcaster. -

"Perhaps this town meeting is when everyone was taken. Judging from this note and the way that the meeting hall was left... If we do not find what we are looking for in the tower, that is where we should return to. Perhaps there is some sort of secret passageway." Hybros looks up at the broom on the wall. "I am ready to go to the tower."- 506 replies

How do you mean? There's definitely a creepy feeling to the village, but maybe a lack of dialog has taken away from that a little.
