Kaliphlin Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
Balthasar replied to Si-MOCs's topic in Guilds of Historica
I ran into an old orcisch wizard the other day. The wisdom he gathered through many years had lead to the following description of the guilds: -> Avalonia: Treelovers -> Mitgardia: Snowlovers -> Kaliphlin: Sandlovers -> Nocturnus: lovers of power, beauty, wisdom, etc. Perhaps this is easier for people that don't know which guild they want to join? -
Hi DaMaximus, Are you planning on keeping this updated? I found it quite usefull when I had to decide which guild to join two months ago.

That curtain is indeed a big improvement, haha! Adding the links and pictures to the map is very easy thanks to Rogueang's index. All you need is some webspace and a finished map. Still, if you want to add all the Avalonia MOC's to a map... It's probably best to make 4 maps of the different guilds and put them in line of eachother. A map of whole historica would be big and you can't see the pop-up on the right, or you would have to shrink the map and names wouldn't be readable anymore. If anyone would like to have something added to the Nocturnus map, just let me know! Several MOC's are still missing. Embassies from other guilds are also welcome. -

I'm not at all an authority in the lego-building society and I don't have much exeprience in either building or presenting MOC's, but if you're interest in an 'outside' opinion: I'm always amazed by your creativity and fantasy. Most builders (me included) seem to need inspiration from existing buildings, games, photo's or other MOC's, but you seems to be build right out of your mind. Also the architecture and size is always intimidating. The problem is that your creations are not as easy on the eye as for example derfels or SoTs creations. I believe this is because you've 'handicapped' yourself by picking the 2 most difficult colours, red and black. Black is difficult to build with in lego, because you just can't see structural elements in the photo. Red is difficult because it draws a lot of attention and it's difficult to combine with other colours. You can see this perfectly in clothing. If someone wears a suit with a red tie, all the attention is drawn to the tie, you hardly notice the suit of the person in it. If you wear a red shirt, you can't find any tie that matches with it. On the other hand, if you wear a white shirt, pretty much every colour in tie matches perfectly, blue, brown, black, red, green, yellow etc. Still those colours suit your background-story and ambition, so I wouldn't recommend abandoning them. The solution would be to have a way that it's a bit more easy on the eye. Ofcourse it won't be easy to find any. Perhaps a grey rock with a red/black building on top? Also, a difference between you and other great builders is that most of them only leave studs on place that they intend to have studs. Perhaps this is something you could incorporate in your builds as well. A third item is that it's definantly worth to photoshop the images. It's not that difficult, but does take some time. The result makes a big difference. Don't use a red background. Still, this is just what I think you're issue might be. I don't want to pretent to know all about lego castle building or presenting. I love your builds and you're way ahead in building-skills compared to me. I definantly hope you continue to build massive and detailed drow creations and don't switch to the more usual/safe castle building. -
absolutely beautiful

Awesome challenge! This leaves so much room for creativity and is great for colouring the lands of Nocturnus. Nice throneroom by the way. Love the pillars, floor and throne. -
Lord Khan's House - Merodaquinas Judge

lovely scene. It fits perfectly into Merodaquinas. I'm particulary fond of the bridge house and nice work on the round roof. Looking forward to more Merodaquinas builds! -

My fellow guildsmen, I've created an interactive map of nocturnus after the example made by bentoft. The map is visible here: http://www.nocturnus.woelmuis.nl/ If anyone wants to have a MOC added to the map (embassies build by other guilds can be added as well), just let me know what and where you want to have it added. For the great wealth and power of the Nocturnus guild, Count Nero -
Excellent MOC! Great build, lovely landscaping and true greenskins
-
another truly original MOC, great work! You must be the king of underwater-vegetation. Those flames turn out to be really good as plants, I would never have thought of that.

Totally agreed! To bad our bribes didn't work out the way we planned. Perhaps we'll try to build better next challenge.. Nah, let's try extortion first. -
Amazing productivity and fantastic work again. Warhammer again, right? Love the chimneys, woodwork, detailing, landscaping. I'm not so fond of the roof colour though. It's a bit to unreal to me. Keep on inspiring!

haha, my goodness. I really like you staying in that lava theme. That eye is absolutely brilljant! @DC - Fine with me. You can even kidnap him if you want. Just don't put his head on a stick. I noticed Avalonians are quite into excecutions lately... Really looking forward to what you can do with Nocturnus' aspects. -

What a beauty! -
Wow, gigantic. That must be a million bricks. And with full interior as well... Looking forward to the rest of the pictures. Very impressive!
-
Admittedly, I hadn't noticed the cross hatch untill I read the reply's, but it's brilliant! I also like those roof beems, clean and solid.
-
I have to agree with you there, but - unfortunantly for me - the credits are for Hound'. When I was looking for snowy landscapes on flickr to get some ideas, I stumbled upon this hidden jewel. I loved the idea and just had to use it. So I build the snowy landscape first and then added the building at the end.

Epic foundations on this one, great shape and the sand green works well to make it 'swampy'. Congratulations on making al those angles work together, even with an interior in it! The swamp is excellent, tree looks interesting as well. I must agree with Basiliscus that the mid-section is a bit to chaotic/colourful for the eye, but it probably looks fine in real. The style is also a perfect blend of kaliphin and nocturnus. Anyway, fantastic Embassy

Interesting roof design indeed. I also like the red and grey tiles working together. Especially at the windows. Always such a great addition when lights are added to a MOC. -

Great build. I see you are continuing your Merodaquinas style. Nice work on the battlements. Looking forward to more pictures! -
This is beautiful! No imperfections (a bit to much snow underneath the roof perhaps). Love the textures of the building as well as the your roof style. To bad I just bought a load of red roof bricks, now I have to invest in a thousand red cheeseslopes...
