Fellow guildmembers, Here is freebuild for our mighty guild. The Black Knights wargalley "Wyvern's Cough". I thought it was about time that the Claw Breakers got some company in the fleet-building business of Nocturnus. This is the last vision which an Avalonian-treehugger will enjoy, before it's time for him to start swimming. More to see in the separate topic here, Count Balthasar Nero -
Dear Mighty lord Ssilyrrlith, We are proud to announce that the military exercise was successful. Wyvern's Cough is ready for the invasion. The napalm-cannon has shown excellent performance. We bought slaves from Kaliphin to man the oars. They appear to be healthy, but lack in discipline. Nothing a good-old whip can't fix though. It appears that some mad man in the Mystic Forest of Avalonia has called himself 'the Black Knight'. Though we are aware that we are ment to maintain the peace (for now), but perhaps we can get a special permission this time? We believe that it is our best interest if we would just burn a few trees in the area to make clear that our factions name should not be tempered with! We will patiently wait for your reply. Your most devoted servant, Count Balthasar Nero House of the Black Knights [sPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE BLACK KNIGHTS COUNSELER OF INFORMATION] To any Avalonians reading this, This military exercise was not a preparation for an invasion of Avalonia. I repeat: This exercise was not a preparation for an invasion of Avalonia. There is absolutely no reason to reconsider your defensive positions. I created this wargalley while waiting for the announcement of challenge 3. It was inspired by the spartans tireme of halfpenguinhalflego. This galley is more of a classic bireme. The napalm-cannon is based on 'greek fire', a cannon used by the greeks and byzantines on their galley during the medieval times. Enjoy front and oarsmen positions crew backside topview I wasn't totally satisfied with the front. The gabs between the angles could be smaller. I've spent a whole evening trying to fix this, but the conclusion was that I had to rebuild the ship from scratch to do that. This is because there is a firm SNOT-base of technic bricks in the construction which makes the ship very strong, but difficult to alter. Now on to challenge 3! C&C welcome

What a wonderful build! I love it. The architecture is great, textures on the buildings, angles, business, small detailing in the buildings which makes them very intersting, fountain, pleasure house, floorwork, rooftiling, etc. I especially like how you manage to make four buildings that all look very different, but still match together perfectly. Well done!

Open the picture in flickr in the size you want. Then right click and select 'open image in new window'. Then copy the link in off the new window and paste it into the 'insert image' button on eurobricks.

Excellent MOC, nice foilage, good angle and I really like the roof. Also the pictures are just fine.

Just epic man... somehow you continue to find totally-new ways to show insane lego-castle building skills. Thanks for building this!

nice rockwork. You should definantly build a bridge yourself. There are so many pretty bridge designs possible. If you want the hanging bridge, here are two examples: Or use other wooden bridge designs. SoT's bridge is awesome with little gaps between the planks: good luck with the challenge! I must say that I liked your first idea with the ziggurat-design. -
Nice story, great design and I like the roof a lot! Also interesting to see an other building-occupation than the usual house, castle, blacksmith, tavern, tower.
-
Very nice treehouse! Great work on the texture of the house and interesting roof colour, it matches great with the MOC. The SNOT-tree design is interesting as well. The trunks might be a bit thin indeed, but still impressive that your managed to give it 6(?) sides!
-
Nice build! Great design, good use of light and dark grey, and the perspective on that first picture is just awesome! Only the wooden roof could use some work in my opinion. Perhaps adding more brown tiles?
-
Excellent work. Those interiors are fantastic!

Most interesting. I like the idea of the snake/dragon theme. Reminds me of Thulsa Doom in Conan the Barbarian :) So a lime green SNOT base like this? (not sure this is lime-green though) And a village on top of it: I like the concept. -
Impressive wall, that thing is so huge! Great feature with the flags above the market. Good design and nice colouring. Even though you plan to add things to side, I would still recommend to make the sides of the wall look more finished before presenting it. Just a minor touch. Looking forward to the rest of Mpya Stedor!

Well, I'm very interested in what you planned our capital to look like? Or did you plan Abyssan as a project of your own? If not, perhaps we could start thinking about it's design and layout? -
I think the wall-texture and the door on your building are magnificent. The problems in my eyes are the windows and the roof. Making the building more interesting would be by working on the design of your windows. Someone who's good at window design on smaller buildings is De Gothia. Go to the GoH building index and take a look some of his buildings, like this one: The other issue is the roof. The side is to blocky. You should cover the side of the roof tiles. You can do this by adding a beam to side, like Cij Daoke does in this building on the left (also a round roof, like yours): or making the roof shorter and cover the side of the roof tiles like this (again from De Gothia): I hope this helps!

so much beauty on such a small baseplate. Well done!

I see your point on the rock. My builds usually don't have an issue with weight :) Hmm, to make it more celestial. I guess it depends on what you interpret as celestial. If I type 'heaven' in google-images I get a lot of staircases: so perhaps a staircase to the cloud? I saw this one recently: To make it less Drow, perhaps a different type of architecture. In google images 'heaven' i noticed these pictures that use a more 'classical roman' type of architecture. Not sure if you want to step away from the drow-architecture though. Perhaps using a lot of wings? Still, if you see what colour does to a place, it's going to be a tough nut to crack. sorry for flouding the forum with pictures like this. Is there a way to shrink them in a post? -

That floor is definantly stunning! It would be awesome if you could make all the floor in your build studless. Are you building separate interiors, or is this going to be implemented into 1 total build? If you lack in white bricks for the cloud, perhaps using your black bricks as a floating rock could be an idea? similar to this build of our mighty guildleader: -
a truly wonderful build!

Looking forward to your celestial city! Is the 'celestial' feature of the city going to be that it's tall and slim, or are you going to locate it in the clouds as well? -
Congratulations with your wedding, may she give you many healthy sons! Lots of pretty ladies, happy guests and nice weather. It must have been a great party. Great work on the landscaping and awesome foilage, especially the fence and the pond. Also great work on including all the known faces! Looks like all these parties and thronerooms are becomming a hype here on GoH after Robuko performed his ball. Its very tempting. Everybody is having fun and i'm still working on my wargalley for the invasion of Avalonia...eh, I mean for hunting pirates ofcourse..

Great work, very inventive. Looks like a tale they could have told in those ancient times 3000 years ago, which truly fits the Kaliphin Guild. Great style.

NiceMarmot, a bit late but still many thanks for working out and posting this tutorial . I used it as my basis for the Nocturnus map. The techniques are pretty much the same when creating a map in Photoshop. I'm quite sure that I wouldn't have started creating the map, if you hadn't posted this. It was quite fun to build. Another tutorial that helped a lot, are these instruction-video's on youtube: There are about 16-20 episodes and it covers pretty much all the issues, except the mountains. Especially handy are the instructions on creating a big forest of which all the trees look handdrawn. It also shows how to create a paper map background. For those interested in making the map interactive, like my nocturnus map, here are the instructions of Bentoft: An easy way to find the coords you are looking for, is by opening the image in paint and go over it with your cursor, then you can see the coords at the left bottom of the screen.

again such a nice, clean smooth build from you. Great style, I love it! Compliments for the small but perfectly executed landscaping. Keep 'm coming!
