I agree. If the seller has more than 5 negative feedback, this should be enough warning to prospective buyers. The reason why the bid is low is because those who had bad experience are staying away from the auction.

I honestly believe that a lot of us started collecting Lego with a certain theme in mind. We told ourselves that this is the theme we'd like to collect and concentrate on. Then a few months or years down the road, a new theme catches our attention and before we know it... voila! We've added new theme(s) to our ever increasing collection! That's how it is with Lego for me. Just don't overdo it and never overspend. Self control is the key.

As most of us know, Lego as a hobby is an expensive one. 75% (or more) of us enthusiasts have limited budget and thus can only buy sets (or themes) that we really like. Of course, there are a handful of AFOLs whom money is no matter and can afford to buy each and every set that is released by TLC. So my suggestion is to ask yourself (seriously) which theme you really like to collect and concentrate on it. Follow through with your decision no matter how tempting it is to buy other themed sets when you see it. Maybe on some occasions when your budget allows, you can buy these sets. Hope this helps and happy building!

Do you go to extremes to protect your precious bricks ?
AFOL SF replied to green dewback's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Does anyone know of small vacuum cleaners that would be appropriate for cleaning Lego? I'd recommend the brand Dyson, but it's too expensive. It will do a great job, though. A Hoover brand is also good, lots of suction. -

As for me, I (most of the time) wash my hands first before putting a brand new set together, to minimize the (natural) oil in my hands. For 2nd hand sets (acquired in whatever way), I always wash it gently and let it dry for a week before storing or putting the set(s) back together. No holding of breathe here, I need air to live. Through the years, I have several sets that I intentionally 'display' right next to the window, to see which colored brick would discolor first, just for the heck of it. -
Hello everyone... Is there anyone who's thinking of selling an extra copy of Hispabrick Vols 1-3? Or maybe you're done reading about it and would like to get your money back. Please let me know and thanks for your time. I couldn't order it from the publisher as I don't understand Spanish.

I'm not quite sure what these products mean (as far as Lego is concerned), but I think TLC is over-extending again. Meaning, the company is venturing out into uncharted territories... I don't want to speculate on TLC's reason for doing so. I wish the company concentrates on the 'brick.' There are still a lot of sets to be made!

I'm pretty sure there are other folks out there who've a more interesting Lego collection. More passionate in their collecting with an impressive collection. Now that is fascinating and living the dream. As for me, I just live, one day at a time...

Obsession?... not really. I tell friends and relatives that my Lego collecting in not just a hobby, but also my passion. Believe me, my collection is far from being complete. Some people invest in stocks, real estate, etc-etc. Let's just say I invest in Lego. I do buy multiple sets and always keep at least 1 mint in box and open 1 or 2 to display. I've been collecting since 1991 but noticed about 4-5 years ago that I was spending way too much on Lego. Unfortunately, it's only this year that I really started keeping tab on my spending. My guestimate of $5-7k a year spent on this hobby for the past 3-4 years.

I had the same question a few years ago and so this year, I decided to track how much I really spend on Lego each month and where I spend it. For the first quarter of this year, I've already spent almost $2400.00 (an average of $800.00 per month), but this month (April) so far, I've already surpassed that average. I know, I've got to slow down...

I totally agree... Yellow would've been a better choice (realistic-wise, too), unless of course it's the year of the color orange?

I went back to the Lego Store yesterday since I was in the area, just in case there's a miracle that their online (sale) prices has been applied to sets still available in the store. No luck. My trip there wasn't wasted, got a couple of new parts at the PAB section. Keep watching guys, you'll never know...

Do you keep your Lego Boxes?
AFOL SF replied to RememberTheLittleGuy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
For small sets, I recycle the boxes... for bigger sets, I keep the boxes but flatten them to save on space. These are mint boxes, but for the ones that are damaged, these are recycled, too. Knowing myself, I'd get tired of a display(s) after a few months and would be replacing it with a new one. So when that happens, I still have the box(es) to put the Lego and instruction booklets back. If I have a choice, I'd ask TLC to use 'smaller' boxes - just enough space that will fit all the Lego inside. This will be environmental friendly with less trees being cut; we really don't need all these oversized boxes for our Lego. Sometimes I feel guilty recycling such boxes as the art on it are well done. -
Unfortunate and surprising experience... I decided to head over the Lego store at Hillsdale Mall, thinking I'd have a better chance getting the IJ sets on sale. Surprising because the store's prices has NOT changed for any of the sale item listed online. Two store associates told me that they cannot match the sale prices online, period - no reason given. What's unfortunate is that even if I order it online (using the store's computer), the prices stays the same! What in the world!?... So after a roundtrip of almost 60 miles, I came home empty handed. So for those of you who're thinking of going to your nearby Lego store, do call first and find out if they will match the online sale prices. I'd like to know if anybody has the same experience as I have because this is the first time I was told the store can't match the online sale price. Is this a new policy within TLC? Very disappointed but hey, life must go on...

Finally my copy arrived this afternoon! WooHoo!!! Will start reading tonight. THANK YOU TLC!!!
-
I did request a copy about the same day you did (a week ago) but mine hasn't arrived yet... hopefully before the end of the week. Cross fingers.

I saw this first on the S@H site. Requested a hardcopy - hopefully they can send me one.

7048 Troll Warship @ WalMart for $30.00 USD
AFOL SF replied to Badsneaker's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
You guys living near a Walmart store are so lucky! The closest one to me is almost 50 miles away! I checked the Walmart website but it still has a regular (retail) price. Any of you guys wanting to get rid of an opened/used (as long as complete) set, do let me know. -
If you ask me, I like most of the themes TLC has released so far (that is from the 90s to the present). Why do I buy what I buy... I guess these sets tickle my fancy.
-
Great!... It looks like the sale is happening all over...

Hello everyone... just want to share with those of you who're waiting for the Twilight #7680 Star Wars set to go on sale... this is the day! It's now 50% off at $49.99 if you buy it at S@H for those who're in the US. Don't know about other countries but worth checking. S/H is a bit steep at around $10. In case you are close to a Lego store, it's worth checking, too.

Thanks for taking care of the 'fix.' I thought the problem was on my end.

How long have you been collecting LEGO?
AFOL SF replied to Kernow's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I bought my very first Lego set during the summer of 1991, 18 years ago. It was the Imperial Flagship, I believe it was. Never had a dark age and been collecting ever since. -
Two reasons why I buy from S@H - first, sets that goes on sale which I know I won't be able to find at the Lego store (they ran out of these very quickly) and secondly, close to the holiday season, S@H offers free shipping for orders over $99. I try to control myself and buy new sets at the Lego store, even when it comes out a month or so later after new sets are posted in S@H. I have to admit, I am not a huge fan of paying more for shipping/handling if I can avoid it.
