  1. In conjunction with the celebration of 40 years anniversary of the LEGO Minifigure. Eurobricks is pleased to share the next comprehensive write-up of the Old Minifigures' advertisement ranging from 1985 to 1989. Courtesy of TLG reference/resources for making this possible! This is my favourite era and my golden age my LEGO playing experience in my childhood. The best play experience for me and likewise how could other AFOLs in Eurobricks resonate themselves with these advertisements? I am sure you have seen it somehow when you flip your own LEGO catalogs. Click here to view the discussion topic in the Eurobricks LEGO Special Themes forum.
  2. Dear Eurobricks Community, The fire for the celebration of the 40 years anniversary of the LEGO Minifigures is going strong and this time we are looking at the LEGO promotional advertisement materials from 1985 to 1989 which are provided by TLG (The LEGO Group). This is the golden age for me and the beginning of my LEGO history. When I first visited the LEGO Vault in May 2014, it was these awesome Classic Town and Classic Castle sets that shed a tear in my eyes. Pretty emotional stuff for AFOLs like us on how we can resonate the various LEGO sets through the age of time. For me, these are the sets which had first cast my love of LEGO at a very young builder when my parents were nice enough to shower me with LEGO toys as part of my childhood. The original super detailed high resolution images provided by TLG can be found in this Flickr Album. I have also included Brickset (excellent database for set catalogue) for links as part of my short article write up as well as my past reviewing images, where applicable. Some images taken in my visit at the former LEGO Ideas House and LEGO Vault in May 2014 Without further ado, allow me to first share the humble beginnings of some these promotional advertisements from 1985-1989. The best of my LEGO childhood. These are the best time of my life. I grew up with Classic Town and played a lot of role playing and tabletop building (on the floor), with those amazing road baseplates filled with these awesome 4-stud wide vehicles. Below are some of my past Classic Town reviews done a decade ago (with poor photos before Reviewers Academy was formally established in August 2008) which I had done and I had to look back into time to see how it goes. Believe it or not, these sets are still in good condition in my collection. Classic Castle Classic Castle are such amazing stuff. Did anyone take a closer look at those abundance of crypus tress? Those were the simple and non-complicated Castle minifigures. Can you spot some of the Classic Castle sets in my display shelves? Classic Space Classic Space had also evolved to another new realm with a slightly modern space helmets which is in circulation till this date. There are space factions among the warring conflict within the deep space travel. One of the best highlights is the 6990 Monorail Transport System. Classic Pirates Ship ahoy. These are the next amazing new theme for the Classic Pirates when it was first introduced in 1989. These Classic Pirates are a force not to reckon with. It establish excellent pirate ships design include the timeless classic of the 6285 Black Seas Barracuda. Classic LEGO Technic Even these technic sets also come with similar minifigures equivalent to increase the playability too. I like to share some other nice images before I sign off for this short write-up. Stay tuned for more. WhiteFang
  3. Thanks Makoy. You have rightfully pointed out on the comlink headset. I agree and do wish that the secondary face doesn't have the comlink. You have reminded me. I wanted to have a proper looking Anakin Skywalker in my collection (minus from the cartoonish version which I have). Hence, this is quite a good replacement for it but after you have pointed out. I begin to have second thoughts.
  4. Hello everyone, I am back to share one of my latest Summer Star Wars purchase and this new release excites me greatly. Thankfully I had managed to get this off at a very reasonable price instead of having to pay a full SRP for it locally in Singapore. I had been contemplating for this set for a long time and it is a timely release for such an iconic Jedi Starfighter led by General Skywalker in the Clone Wars. Yes, this is the tenth anniversary of the Clone Wars and seeing this set appearing once more versus the 7669 Anakin's Jedi Starfighter, released in 2008. Without further ado, let me indulge you guys in this simple review. Name: 75214 Anakin's Jedi Starfighter Theme: LEGO System / Licensed / Star Wars / The Clone Wars Year: 2018 Pieces: 247 Minifigs: 1 minifigure and 1 droid Price: USD 19.99, GBP 25.99, EURO 29.99, SGD 59.90 Resources: Brickset, BrickLink, Brick Insights An original box image of the 75214 Anakin's Jedi Starfighter Back view of the original box image of the 75214 Anakin's Jedi Starfighter Anakin is back with a re-release of this starfighter Jedi Starfighters are the main commanding fighters among flight squadron for the Republic. Each starfighter is commandeer by a Jedi during the Clone Wars and are highly revered as Commanders or Generals with regards to the Clone Troopers. Till this date, there are a couple of Jedi Starfighters released as early as 2002. I never really had a chance to own a decent Jedi Starfighters and in fact, this is my very first Jedi Starfighter to add into my Clone Wars collection. I had always liked General Skywalker in the Clone Wars and getting this as my first make lots of sense, coupled with good pricing. It was hard to say no. The content of the sealed box The sealed box come with three numbered mint packs. The instruction manual is part of the content. This set also contain a dreaded sticker sheet which I did not apply for my set. After the set is completed, these are the remaining spare parts which are spread across the packs. You can view the spare parts for packet 1, packet 2 and packet 3. Anakin Skywalker and R2-D2 This set contain the main protagonist of the Clone Wars - Anakin Skywalker or otherwise known as General Skywalker, of the 501st Legion, accompanied by Captain Rex. Anakin Skywalker had appeared 19 different variants ranging from original yellow skin tone to cartoonish version of Clone Wars and the regular fleshie appearances. This is one of the nicer looking minifigure of Anakin Skywalker and some of my other favourites include the 9494 Anakin's Jedi Interceptor and 9526 Palpatine's Arrest. While Anakin's trusty droid, R2-D2 in this design has magically appeared in 5 recent sets. By turning them to their back and removal of hairpiece, you can see back view of the minifigure with alternate facial expression including back printing. The entire building content for Packet 1The completed built for Packet 1 The entire building content for Packet 2The completed built for Packet 2 The entire building content for Packet 3 The completed built of the Anakin's Jedi Starfighter The completed built of the Anakin's Jedi Starfighter design is nicely done and well articulated. Swooshable and medium built for such a starfighter to handle with great playing. More importantly, it stay true with the reference material. It is a pity that I do not have the 2008 version to compare with. Looking at the two designs together, both are pretty similar in their built and placement of key design components. I noticed that it had smooth the front of the starfighter and R2-D2 docking area is much compact and streamlined which I prefer in this version. This set measured at 8cm high, 10cm long and 13cm wide. It has a decent playability including the landing gear, hidden storage of the lightsaber beneath the starfighter and stud shooters on the slant wings. I didn't notice there is a hidden storage for extra ammos and I had concluded it was located pretty near the front of R2-D2 docking station. The cockpit flight control front is a printed roof tile and it is welcoming than a stickered piece. You just need to lift it up to discover it. s very simple and good-to-have feature to accompany this battle pack. You can enjoy more of the up close viewing angles from the side view and back view. Sir, we will hit the Separatist Forces hard Ready for the next war mission? Your safety is secured with General Skywalker Rex, which starfighter should I be taking? Off we go to our next adventure To conclude, this is a slightly high above average LEGO Star Wars Starfighter for a Jedi. Jedi Starfighters are normally priced at a premium range and it is only make perfect sense to buy it when is on sale or the minifigures' count increase more than 1. Droid does not count as a minifigure. I bought this set purely because my Clone Troopers need a proper General Skywalker leading the troopers into battle during the Clone Wars era. Furthermore, this starfighter is very iconic in the Clone Wars and is instant recognisable in the Clone War cartoon series. I enjoyed as much as building it as well as actually playing with it. Last but not least, I do not have to pay premium price to get the decade old set and this re-release is welcoming in my context. Summary review Playability: 8/10 (Fun to play with various play scenes, which you can imagine from the Clone Wars series) Design: 8/10 (Good re-released Jedi Starfighter design and nice minifigure too.) Price: 5/10 (Get this set when it on sales as I find it very expensive to pay it at full SRP in Singapore.) Overall: 7/10 (Get this Jedi Starfighter or simply let this design be your ever first one to begin with, if you have never buy one in the first place. You will find it worthy for swooshing.) I gave it a "4" based on my Review Score Card. What about yours? (Star Wars poll function is still broken and I exclude the poll in this review). I hope every one of you enjoyed reading this simple review of mine. Comments and Criticisms are strongly welcomed. Pictures can be found in My Flickr.
  5. In conjunction with the celebration of 40 years anniversary of the LEGO Minifigure. Eurobricks is pleased to share the next short comprehensive write-up of the Old Minifigures' advertisement ranging from 1983 to 1984. Courtesy of TLG reference/resources for making this possible! I just enjoyed seeing these old advertisements images like how I had always flipped those LEGO catalogs when I was a child. 6. Dear Eurobricks Community, Let's maintain the fire for the celebration of the 40 years anniversary of the LEGO Minifigures. I am now looking at the LEGO promotional advertisement materials from 1983 to 1984 which are provided by TLG (The LEGO Group). The years ahead will set the foundation and tone for the Classic LEGO System. The original super detailed high resolution images provided by TLG can be found in this Flickr Album (including some which I had mixed it in by accident). I have also included Brickset (excellent database for set catalogue) for links as part of my short article write up as well as my past reviewing images, where applicable. Henceforth, allow me to share images from the past which illustrate the humble LEGO origins of 1980s beginning with some these promotional advertisements from 1983-1984. I start to get nostalgic and passionate about Classic Town as I continue viewing these advertisements. It slowly bring the keen interest of why I love LEGO in the first place. The simplicity and evergreen of playing these sets altogether. It is not hard to find what are what, if you are into LEGO long enough. More importantly, how many of you are still keeping Classic Town sets from 1983-1984? I have been keeping some and those are some of my decade old reviews back in the heydays of Classic Town.net (no longer in existence). Fabulastic Minifigures We pause a moment and pay a tribute to these fellows. Who could forget these awesome lovable Fabuland Minifigures! Don't you find some of these characters unique in Eurobricks? I suppose you can identify a few. Do also check out Fabuland Builders' Guild if you have not done so. It was a 'medieval' movement by Eurobricks with a bunch of wacky Fabuland lovers, dated in 2008. Classic Castle and Classic Space are still ever going so strong !You can still see the classic old space helmet plus those tons of awesomeness space moon craters baseplate in the images and those awesome old grey masonic bricks with great soldiers' minifigures from the Lion Knights. WhiteFang
  7. The cone helmet is steel grey. While I agree the new spears are soft and bulky, but I chosen that it because it brought contrast to the whole minifigure due to the 2 colour tones on the spear which I like it. Well, this is the first time I had done using these new horses. I find using the new horses for the yellow traditional minifigures is strange, while fleshie minifigures seems quite welcoming or rather suiting from aesthetics perspective. For the longsword, yes it almost touching the ground and it appears you are scrapping it.
  8. Thanks for sharing! Will you be able to rotate the minifigures into an upright position? I can't see the details of the images in this manner. Will appreciate if you change it and also to keep your images within 800x600.
  9. In conjunction with the celebration of 40 years anniversary of the LEGO Minifigure. Eurobricks is pleased to share the next comprehensive write-up which largely comprise of the highly unbelievable sketches from TLG designers and seeing the actual end-product for yourself. What do you think when you see such an original concept design coming to life right in front of your collection from the LEGO Minifigures Theme. Courtesy of TLG reference/resources and this is definitely one of the most interesting materials which I adore very much. Click here to view the discussion topic in the Eurobricks LEGO Special Themes forum.
  10. Dear Eurobricks Community, Special thanks to TLG (The LEGO Group) for these amazing design sketches on the LEGO Minifigures Theme otherwise known as the LEGO Collectable Minifigures Theme. This is my all time favourite theme since the dawn of 2010 and it is still going very strong till this age. I am sure all of us are familiar with these characters and from the perspective of inspirational design, largely stemmed by Matthew Ashton, Vice President of Design (TLG) as well as the core designers and team including Tara Wike, Alexandre Boudon, Austin Carlson and Chris Bonven. I won't be writing too much and I will leave your thoughts to wander around when you see these awesome design illustration versus the actual product. Without further ado, let's dive into this rare illustrating insight of the world of LEGO design right at your doorstep. On a personal note, I had totally gone nuts after seeing these very original inspirational designs! The original super detailed high resolution images provided by TLG can be found in this Flickr Album. Sketches provided by Alexandre Boudon Sketches provided by Tara Wikie on parts design - Guess which part is it for? Sketches provided by Chris Bonven Sketches provided by Austin Carlson (by the way the top left is a Godzilla or Dragon Suit Guy inspiration?) Sketches provided by Matthew Ashton Pretty much everything else you see came to an actual reality? Guess which is this series from? Scroll down to find out the answer Link to Series 13 review I hope you enjoyed this simple comparison feature as much as I went through the sketches. WhiteFang
  11. In conjunction with the celebration of 40 years anniversary of the LEGO Minifigure. Eurobricks is pleased to share a comprehensive write-up of the Old Minifigures' advertisement ranging from 1980 to 1982. Courtesy of TLG reference/resources for making this possible! I hope you do enjoy a time travel back into the past like I do. Click here to view the discussion topic in the Eurobricks LEGO Special Themes forum.
  12. Dear Eurobricks Community, To continue the celebration of the 40 years anniversary of the LEGO Minifigure? I had dwell deeper into the LEGO promotional advertisements provided by TLG (The LEGO Group) which I am going to share between 1980 to 1982. It is the dawn and the beginning of the Golden Age. I was not exactly born during this period yet but this period is an important milestone for the LEGO Minifigures to embrace a whole new level of interchange playability of parts through mix and match, looking at the lens and the art of minifigures' role playing in our day-to-day lives. The original super detailed high resolution images provided by TLG can be found in this Flickr Album. I have also included Brickset (excellent database for set catalogue) for links as part of my short article write up as well as my past reviewing images, where applicable. Henceforth, allow me to first share the humble beginnings of some these promotional advertisements from 1980-1982. The first LEGO Minifigure is the Classic Police Officer - was a part of the LEGO Town Theme in early 1978 (which I forget to mention in my first topic). As the years goes, there are more varieties of town occupations ranging from doctors, drivers, construction workers, chefs and etc, appearing in LEGO Town. The beginning of 1980s were a golden age because many young builders including myself and discover these attractive, simple, classic playsets with minifigures in there. It was a successful hit in global regions. LEGO was able to capture many young builders and during this period, LEGO was still conservative in their set releases until 1983 onward where more themes and varied sets designs increased significantly. The iconic 6381 Summer Cottage first released in 1981 could be spotted in the town setting in this German advertisement. Will you be able to identify the rest of the Classic Gems in this promotional advertisement? LEGO Town's integral transportation hub rely greatly on trains and trains had appeared as early as 1966. In this case, these trains come with train conductors. These 12 volts train are amazingly incredible and highly detailed. Are you even aware that there are 13 train sets recorded for the release in 1980. Anyone got the slightest idea on what the black locomotive is from? Then, moving forward slightly where space adventures are very excitable and real due to US and Soviet Union arms race towards intergalactic space travel in 1970s. Space became real and so real life and imagination seems limitless. The beginning of 1978 introduced Classic Space are really the best Classic Space sets ever released. Even those sets were not released at the time when I was born, I had to admire from past promotional images and imagine right in my mind. I am sure no one will dispute the fact that it is a winning formula if proper Classic Space or *ahem* Neo Classic Space ever returns to TLG product launches. I like to share some other nice images before I sign off for this short write-up. Stay tuned for more time capsule and blast into the past! WhiteFang
  13. Thank you for sharing. Very useful indeed. Any idea which retail outlet is going to hold the Hogwarts Express? I had previously checked at David Jones for aquaman set but I can’t seem to see it elsewhere yet.
  14. Do you know 29 August 2018 marks the celebration of 40 years anniversary of the LEGO Minifigure? Because today was the original date that the first Danish patent was handed in 1977. The first ever minifigures' release only come about in 1978 and the launch is the reason why we are celebrating this joyous occasion. This will be the first short feature of going back in time to look into the history of LEGO Minifigures. There will be more of these topics appearing over the weeks. Click here to view the discussion topic in the Eurobricks LEGO Special Themes forum.
  15. Dear Eurobricks Community, Do you know 29 August 2018 marks the 40 years anniversary of the LEGO Minifigure? Because today was the original date that the first Danish patent was handed in 1977. The first ever minifigures' release only come about in 1978 and the launch is the reason why we are celebrating this joyous occasion. Well, TLG (The LEGO Group) had sent a wide arsenal of exciting materials, resources and past references where the Minifigures' history are first found. Eurobricks is one of the honoured sites to be able to receive these information and I am pleased to share them with our fellow Eurobricks members and to discuss your thoughts. More importantly, to remember the past and good old days of LEGO Minifigures in view of its 40th Birthday! The original super detailed high resolution images provided by TLG can be found in this Flickr Album. Henceforth, allow me to first share the humble beginnings of some these promotional advertisements in 1978. Meanwhile, stay tune for more upcoming sharing and short write-up in the coming weeks. 16. Very nice rendition which I am looking forward to see your actual built. To see this a combined inspiration of Classic Castle namely from the Black Falcon Fortress is indeed a great homage. Keep up the good work.
  17. I actually haven't watch the movie and (please don't share the plot) this particular truckspeeder is supposedly Moloch's ride. Well, I have to watch the movie to cast my own impression and in this review, I had not referenced any actual movie aspect. From TLG's marketing perspective, it is successful to make me felt is worthy 'chase' scene, because that's how I relate the both sets together in terms of playability aspect. Well, that's how I will choose to group the play scenes without the knowledge of watching the movie. It kind of worries me that I might also feel a same dilute taste after watching in the future when I re-look at the sets again.
  18. Makoy is on it. I will come in for your future reviews.
  19. Can you see these links below? I obtained it from my signature. And, for the strikethrough link, it will refer to this topic. I will update mine shortly. Read This | Questions? Need Help? Ask Here Site Guidelines | Eurobricks FAQ | Visual User Guide
  20. Apologies for the delay and access granted. Welcome to Reviewers Academy.
  21. I have updated the review with a few new images after re-taking it with better light conditions. Hope it looks better now. Added some playability photos in excess of the description text links. Hope is better for you? To be honest, I am not a very good MOCer and I am not a good parts identifier (in general). Apart from the given colour schema based on the assorted bricks, I thought it was really quite average parts pack for these colours. Good to hear an interesting take on the parts aspect.
  22. Unfortunately, they can’t and we are doing our best to react to those spam fests. Thanks for your understandiang.
  23. Thanks Johnny1360. The omission of the interesting parts is because I had actually built this set quite sometimes back. I didn’t dismantle and re-build it again. In addition, I didn’t think there are particular interesting bricks to bring the attention other than the good mix of colour schema of grey and tan bricks. Those are useful for MOCs. I really need to re-examine the parts list again. What parts could you consider decent in your opnion?
  24. Thanks for your thoughts and your honest criticisms too. It will also help me to hone the review and to be honest, this was done in quite a rush manner especially I had this built for awhile. For the functions of the speeder, I had actually embedded these images within the text that summise the playability. I had extracted the short write up for your quick reference. Please let me know if is work for you and if you need additional images. Feel free to let me know. As for the patrol troopers, I was actually focusing more on the set and the patrol troopers like a camo. But yes, it do sounds better if they were clearer. Let me try and get it change. Extracted as below: The armoured transport is only capable of sitting one passenger behind its protective roll bar. The armoured bulky looking transport has a powerful noisy engine that allow the speeder to propel forward but in actual fact, it has these lovely mini wheels to allow this truckspeeder to experience a hovering sensation. This truckspeeder has a couple of nice playability features such as the multi-stud shooter at the front of the truckspeeder. It can be activated from the side of the truckspeeder via the circular round piece. The rear end of the truckspeeder also contain a storage cabin area. It can keep a couple of feeding baskets for the hungry hounds and spare ammunition. This truckspeeder also contain a forward cage which holds a pack of snarling Corellian hounds.
