Can't help but feel a bit disappointed by the lac of new feet. We've had the same clown shoes now for like 4 years. I think now would have been appropriate for new feet designs. Superhero chests...eh...I can live with it.

Yeah, not sure what that's about. Could be as trivial as say the Golden Fleece from God of War, or maybe a sign that it's a continuation considering the significance of the golden armour, the latter of which I hope it isn't.

Remember guys, these are still in the prototype stage. They are subject to change, especially if they end up being a Summer release like the 2013 Chima Ultrabuilds.

I think you misunderstand. If it doesn't need changing don't change it. If Ninjago got a reboot and say Cole was made a girl it would be a bit odd. I think genderswapping existing characters would be detrimental and the idea that it singlehandedly makes for a fresh take is shallow in my opinion. Giving them actual character on the other hand is beneficial. I would like to see others, and I would totally be down with a female Toa for more elements, as well as male Toa for elements previously established to be female-only.

CCBS New Shell Ideas/Speculation
MakutaDreadscythe replied to MakutaDreadscythe's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I get what you mean, and it's one of the reasons it'd be unlikely. However the though of the new pieces is exciting. If this was done it'd probably be a large shell design due to requiring back coverage more than smaller shells. -
That's kinda what I tried to imply, though you've clearly done a better job of explaining it. The Mata team is iconic and it wouldn't do anything. It's be like turning Mario into a chick or Samus into a guy. Just odd.
-
Well for new characters yes. I dunno. The idea of genderbending would be weird and feel like a forced change. Perhaps utilise some of the other elements or make more characters in the respective tribes?
-
Right then, time for my input. I personally would like more female characters. Characters like Samus and Lara Croft are strong personalities and besides being generally cool can be interesting. Lariska is one such example, a lot of ideas about what she looks like and how she acts is left up to imagination, but that can work. I am however opposed to genderbending the mata team should they return, not because I’m sexist (cos you know, I’m not) but because it doesn’t add anything of value. Changing something for the sake of change is silly.

I did post this in the 2015 speculation topic, but it was dropped pretty quickly. I feel this could be an interesting discussion, considering the possibilities of new moulds and the issue of back coverage, so I made it a topic. I mentioned as a new piece for Bionicle that putting minifig bars on the sides of the shells would open up a lot of options. This motif would be spread for various sizes of shell, most notably 5 long and torso shells. [i did get a comment saying it was hard to visualise. Imagine a gap/minifig bar at the ends of where the shells extend back on the sides.] This has multiple purposes. For Bionicle this means the return of the piston aesthetic that defined it. Allowing further integration with LEGO system, something that LEGO action figures struggle with somewhat. Another new piece could be introduced. A flat version of said shell piece with no ball connection and two minifig clips on each side corresponding to the bars on the shell. This would mean back coverage would no longer be an issue and due to the generic nature of the piece could be used in system sets as well, for example the bonnet of a sci fi car or as plating for a more system-oriented mech. One could argue that this would devalue the original shell, but the old shells still have the advantage of a clean look and can be used where the new shells would be redundant or to save costs, for example upper arms/legs or on the back of a creature build, like say a dragon or turtle. The cost of the new moulds would be significant, but the versatility for MOCing and ability to make LEGO figures look more complete would probably justify it in the long run. In any case, what do you guys think? Any other ideas to add?

Guys, not that LEGO would do this, but I think I have thought of a brilliant idea to improve the CCBS. Expanding upon my idea of putting minifig bars on the sides of the shells. This motif would be spread for various sizes of shell, most notably 5 long and torso shells. This has multiple purposes. For Bionicle this means the return of the piston aesthetic that defined it. Allowing further integration with LEGO system, something that LEGO action figures struggle with somewhat. Another new piece could be introduced. How peculiar. I did walk into a toy store about a month back and they still had a few Voltix sets left. I guess his fabulous colour scheme didn't appeal to everyone.

Now now, I know you can't understand the joke, but try and keep it clean. Especially towards me. Cos you know, I don't really appreciate being called a pleb.

It's not that they had too many large groups really, more that they didn't do a very good job of making Bara Magna an interesting place. Mata Nui was interesting because it was an island setting. It was somewhat relatable and had a lot of interesting locales. Each element had their own setting and it helped differentiate everything. Bara Magna was a desert, and not a very interesting one at that. I mean, yeah, there were snowy mountains and volcanoes, but we didn't really see that, just lots of arenas and sand. I almost expect that one guy from the SW prequels to give us an essay on why he doesn't like sand.

It's not so much that they couldn't be differentiated, but for them to coexist and both be buildable robot-esque figures would come off to the consumer as incredibly redundant. By having a more mech style HF carves out a niche while Bionicle can be the more straightforward line.

Well, excluding the gamefaqs-calibre game of vocal ping pong. The leaks, whether fake or not, I feel are a good thing, because it opens up discussion. What would Bionicle be like if it was rebooted now with all the new part variety. As for the Hero Factory thing, well two things could happen. We could have a Stars-esque line that wraps things up, albeit shoddily. The other option is as an alternate constraction line that coexists. Bionicle would be more figure based while Hero Factory would be based on the mech style they used for this year's sets.

Well in any case the chances of this being true are fairly high now. In any case I'm excited. The Toa Mata were my personal favourites and better yet, considering this is the return of Bionicle a few new moulds might need to come into play. New feet/shells/shell add-ons galore! And masks!

Assuming the leaks are true, I would imagine Pohatu would be brown. I mean, CHI Mungus was brown. Why not Pohatu?

Hmmm, interesting idea. A lot of humongousaur's parts would seem to fit quite well into the CCBS, brown feet, brown tail, etc. Might have to try and acquire one of them to test this.

Sorry 'bout bringing up shells again, but I do think it's a good point. I noted different designs would be cool, but I think the line would have a good time if they utilised the modded shell used on Breakout Rocka during the animated movie (the one with an axle hole on the side) or variants of it. It would also solve the usual complaint that technic and CCBS have some trouble mixing sometimes. Oh, and in regards for the story, I imagine they'd probably have it along the lines of Chima's story, somewhat serious with a few jokes inbetween. That I would not be totally opposed to, be a nice break from the whole "Everyone is a traitor. Plot twists are our bread and butter. This guy is a great spirit now because he is brown." thing they had going.

I wouldn't completely discount the idea of new shells. I mean, we still have those weird shells that are thicker than usual (not sure how to describe them, used mostly on lower legs on wave 1 Breakout.) so I wouldn't be displeased with some variety. The shells at the moment are just longer or shorter versions of each. Maybe a shell with minifig bars on the side to clip things on?

Legends of Chima 2014 Discussion
MakutaDreadscythe replied to Aethersprite's topic in LEGO Action Figures
On a side note (this applies to system Chima as well) why do the bird characters have three talons? I'm pretty sure they have only two talons. I feel it's a bit of a waste considering two years earlier they remoulded the two-claw foot piece. Not so much for Fluminox but for Vardy perhaps. I dunno. What do you guys think? -
