LEGO has started posting various Bionicle stop motion animations on YT, they've got Onua, Pohatu, Tahu and Gali at the moment, though this will likely change soon. They're pretty interesting IMO.

I dunno, given the emphasis on transparent pieces so far (protector masks being the prime example) I think it's entirely possible. Either that or they could bring back the transparent chest pieces ala Stinger and Jetbug.

[REVIEW]: 70784 Lewa: Master of Jungle
MakutaDreadscythe replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I think I could have worded it better so here we go.On the topic of his adrenaline mode, the only real reason his lower arms are so lanky and Gen 1 length is to accomodate for the axe blades which IMO looks silly. What I meant was the focus on the forearms rather than the weapon makes using the function feel super-awkward because it goes outwards. Imagine using Tahu Nuva's function, only he has extra swords on the sides of his arms. Not to mention posing him in this mode looks awkward. Also, I'm all for more sleek and lanky proportions (lower arms are still one module longer than the others on my mods) but I can't help but feel that something is wrong when the supposed agile flying toa has more of a hunchback than either of the original hunchbacks (again Pohatu especially, who has very little going for him as it is). I suppose a picture would help, but till then I may as well explain the legs. The shells I refer to are the 6 long shells, placing these with the piston add-on at the bottom, combined with the axe blades on his feet, really gives the vibe of hover boots, which IMO looks much cooler. -
[REVIEW]: 70784 Lewa: Master of Jungle
MakutaDreadscythe replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I suppose it's customary for me now to suggest MODs and give my opinion so here we go. The fact that he has the largest mask bothers me immensely, mostly thanks to Onua having the smallest mask. It's a trivial detail at face value but it feels really jarring after a while. I'm with VVBN on this one, the adrenaline mode sucks. His gear function is impeded by the extra weight on the forearms and the concessions made (way too long arms and ugly connectors) aren't worth it. I'd just pull a Gali and put the axes on his feet like jet boots or something. That way you can shorten the arms and lower the gearbox without it looking silly. Also if you have Jetbug just use his shells for his legs. It honestly works wonders for him. -
Battle for the Gold Mask Semi-finalists and Winner
MakutaDreadscythe replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Regardless of how you view the silver pohaturangs as well as the other 2015 pieces, it is good publicity considering it shows creative parts usage of pieces that have only just been developed, particularly the pohaturangs used as a sort of collarbone and near the ankles. -
Very similar to the mods I made before, only I used black bones and put the piston pieces on the lower legs. Oh, and no ball cups on his shoulders, I can sorta get past that. Also noticed you heightened the gearbox slightly. That definitely helps.

[REVIEW]: 70785 Pohatu Master of Stone
MakutaDreadscythe replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I feel a way to improve the look is to lengthen the lower legs by one module (using a larger silver shell) and replace the trans-bones with black. Though this does arguably remove a colour from the colour scheme it matches his animation model much closer. -
Very sorry for your situation. Can't help but think back to that old Piraka series on YT (sadly took down ages ago) where a backordered toa was a plot point for one of the episodes. Still, terrible situation.

Got the six toa a few days back from S@H. For the most part everything I'd hoped for, though Onua's mask is noticably smaller than the others on arguably the bulkiest character and Pohatu is blander than potato salad without mods like raised shoulders etc. Only real gripe with most of the sets is the lack of true integration between the gearbox and the chest, leaving two ball joints and for some characters (Pohatu) a somewhat disjointed appearance. Will post mod suggestions in the week.

Not sure what's up with yours. Ordered mine on the 1st of Jan, should be delivered later today according to the tracking. Till then, a lovely session of Top Gear with a cuppa.

I understand that, but I do feel the compromised neck articulation, especially on a character such as Lewa who is supposed to be airborne most of the time, makes that solution worth it in my opinion. Besides, I personally felt the shoulders were too high anyways. To each our own of course, that's what LEGO is about after all!

Sets are available on LEGO S@H for the UK! My wallet is ready. EDIT: Well at least Tahu is anyway, you have to play around with the URL a bit first. Give it a few hours I'd say.

[REVIEW]: 70787 Tahu: Master of Fire
MakutaDreadscythe replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Tahu was the first set I got back as a kid, so seeing this now is tremendously nostalgic and exciting. No doubt I will be making him my first purchase when the sets are released. -
Battle For The Golden Mask Competition: Entry Thread
MakutaDreadscythe replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Well, I might as well give this a go. Good luck regardless to all entrants! Entry Name: Calamity Dragon http://www.brickshel...ntest/image.jpg A fierce beast wielding an enormous battle axe and a serious case of underbite has come to destroy the island of Okoto and all of its inhabitants! If the Toa are to succeed, they must find the masks of power and work together, though even then it will be a thing to topple! Just be careful of his fiery claws and vicious spikes, and hope he isn't hungry... EDIT: Well thanks to the power of incompetence I forgot to edit the image properly. Hopefully you all can turn your heads 90 degrees so this may not be a problem. Or it might. Please don't sue me! :O -
Battle For The Golden Mask Competition: Discussion Thread
MakutaDreadscythe replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Is it possible to submit an entry featuring villains as part of a team? For example a gold, a green and a purple bad guy working towards the same goal? -
I honestly don't understand why the guy brought up the Vahi and about it being half a mask/incomplete, it's a bit of an odd detail to give out IMO. He could have just said "Remember the Vahi?" and it'd suggest they're making other non-elemental masks, rather than trying to hard-link the two universes, which I'm not gonna lie, I'd be very disappointed if they just straight up linked the two.

Just had a look at the new pictures, still not convinced on the defenders. I dunno, the proportions just look horribly goofy, especially those big heads. Toa on the other hand look quite nice, likin' the new Gali mask, at more than Mistika and Nuva versions. Still, some proportions are off on some toa, modding imminent.

Have to agree on Fangar and Fluminox owning them personally. Fangar pulls it off better considering the cape and torso build, but still considering he was £3 more than Furno XL at £15 it was a bit disappointing, especially the lack or some sort of back armour. Also, god forbid you buy Fluminox without modding pieces spare, his bow is horribly awkward and those wings! Eugh!

I feel a reboot would make the most sense. Would explain the lack of piston aesthetics and the eleventy-billion species we never saw.

The decision to make half of the Toa team titan priced baffles me slightly. Part of the appeal of Hero Factory was that getting a full team was never too pricey. Here though? I've gotta drop £60 for three of 'em. Or £45, hoping it's the latter. Either way £45 would have easily brought the whole team back when they first came out.

Honestly that was something I hated about Hero Factory's story. It started getting interesting with Breakout and that cliffhanger, but that was losing the point of the Hero Factory story anyway. There was never any closure for anything. Just made the story look half-assed and was one of the reasons I wasn't invested in IFB. Like seriously. What are these beasts and why should I care? What happened to the brains, or the blueprints? Where's Nex and Stringer? Why does Von Nebula, a significant antagonist I might add, show up for no reason in Breakout to break his own staff, or why does his hand show up at the end? I'm not expecting everything to be handed out to me, but an endless series of cliffhangers that never get solved kinda kill my suspension of disbelief.
