Mafia School: A Bedtime Story - Day One
Flipz replied to Sandy's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Alignment claiming doesn't hurt town, role claiming can if it's done at the wrong time. Doctors, Cops, Blockers, vigilantes, and Vanillas are all town. The scum know who's Town but not which Town have the Power Roles. -

1. No, no, there's no excuse. Anyone who's studied up on the game situation knows better than to make up a color for alignment-claiming, especially when the correct shade is available not just in the public, opening post, but also in the very post statement you're quoting. A simple preview mental review of what you were about to say could have saved you. 2. OK, because this like of reasoning is faulty and yet I see it far too often: claiming alignment does not hurt the Good Guys, because the Scum already know who is good and who is Scum. Revealing a confirmed Good Guy result is bad for the Town, because it removes someone the Good Guys know they can trust. (Sometimes a reveal is a good thing, such as when the Good Guys can guarantee protection for them, but that requires a lot of careful strategizing behind the scenes.) 3. I have nothing to say on this point. 4. I continue to point it out because it was a Freudian slip that revealed your underlying mentality--that of a scum. That's all I'll say on that, everything else has already been said. Also, read my addition to my last post statement. -

Actually, I think I'd rather wait and let them further dig their own graves. The ones who I think are Good Guys know who they are. Being unable to multiquote is no excuse. Even if you didn't quote them directly, you explicitly stated: It shows you didn't even bother to read the other accusations, and spoke based on the information that you already know--that I'm a Good Guy--which you know because you are Scum. I'm also loving how you don't even try to counter my first two points, or even acknowledge that they're true. Enjoy Mirror World, puppet! Oh, and on the off chance you're telling the truth about the quoting problem, switch EB to Compatibility Mode in Internet Explorer, or if you're on a different browser just open reply links in new tabs and copy/paste the extra quotes into a single post go find a cleric to cast a magic spell. If there's other computer speaking problems, just let me know, just because you're Scum doesn't mean I'm not happy to help with technical sorcerery issues; my dad fairy godmother taught me a lot about computers countercurses. -

Love you, too, Scummo. Anyone else spot the glaring mistake in her Good Guy claim? And as for logical mistakes: in what way is saying that I'm a Good Guy a roleclaim? It's nothing the scum doesn't know already, and it gives the other Good Guys a definitive claim to test. The best part? You completely ignored the other people who still think I'm scum. You assumed they all think I'm a Good Guy, because you already know I am, because you're Scum. Oh, and nice job with you and your fellow scum partner surreptitiously accusing each other as you both try to draw suspicion onto me. Scum. -

Because Scum have a choice: talk a lot (and thus lie a lot) and have more ways to slip up and reveal themselves to us, or try to fly under the radar, which offers less chance of direct slip-up but is in itself scummy. By keeping track of post counts and preventing people from flying under the radar, we force them to talk more, and thus give ourselves more opporunities to catch their slip-ups. Oh, and GG are Good Guys, BG are Bad Guys (Scum). Oh, this is hilarious. I've got to send some PMs. -

Scum like to hide under the radar. Keeping track of the post counts won't let them. It's a common tool in these sorts of situations, and while it's not solid evidence, it can give us places to look, especially later in the Day. -

Alright, post statement count complete! Post counts so far (Day 1): Aladdin/palathadric - 13 Big Bad Wolf/The_Customizer - 6 Cinderella/Flipz - 28 (including this post) Goldilocks/Darth Nihilus - 1 Jack/Piratedave84 - 2 Little Mermaid/JaseTJ - 0 Mr. Bear/Superficial Username - 5 Pinocchio/Poison Ivy - 4 Prince Charming/Jackjonespaw - 5 Puss-In-Boots/Dakar A - 8 Rapunzel/RPGer - 5 Red Riding Hood/Lord of the Fries - 0 Sleeping Beauty/Chromeknight - 1 Snow White/LEGOman273 - 10 White Rabbit/Alex the Great - 5 Wicked Witch/Donut - 6 OK, I've been talking with Charming upstairs, and we've agreed to tone down the bickering a little, so as not to interfere with the group's search for Scum. He's still a cheating, airheaded loon, but against all odds it turns out he IS capable of civility. Noble jerk *mumble mumble* -

I seem to recall that Red Riding Hood had some trouble finding her way to us during Confirmation before Pig's death as well. I'm inclined to believe your real life villain theory, Puss. Shame, it's more fun when more people are around. I also find it odd that Little Mermaid hasn't appeared, but she's another one who sleeps late in the day so... Give me a few minutes to refresh my memory, and I'll try to come up with an updated list. -

There are ways...but they take time, and trust, and really shouldn't be done in public. I'm doing some work behind the scenes to brainstorm good candidates for protection, depending on what people say I may post them publicly once we've decided. -

It's clear that not everyone believes that I am a GG, but that's OK. I'm pleased that my fellow GGs are examining every possibility, and are taking nothing at face value. Speaking a lot does not guarantee that one is a Good Guy, but it's strong evidence in their favor. There's a fine line between "strong evidence" and "automatically town", rabbit. Very well, then, who would you suggest. (And if you say yourself, I'll put you in the stew with the pork <--that was a joke, nothing more. ) -

Uh, I'm fairly sure that Doctors can't protect themselves. For one thing, unless the player was exceptionally selfless they would just protect themselves the whole time, which is against the spirit of the game even with magic it's hard to perform surgery on yourself. -

May I remind you that this is Mafia School a relatively simple realm, and that complicated effects like that are usually reserved for Advanced games beyond the magical skill of any of us here? -

I believe the statement you quoted was a retraction of that very sentiment. Snow's new suggestion is for candidates for investigation/protection to come forward--a good idea, in this case. It's not foolproof, but it's a start, until we have a few confirmed Good Guys to help coordinate the power roles. -
Mafia School: A Bedtime Story - Day One
Flipz replied to Sandy's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Um, what are you talking about? What do you think we've been doing the entire time I've been talking, playing checkers? Simply put: Good Guys (with the possible exception of Doctors) don't need to lie. Therefore, a skilled Good Guy will NOT lie (again, unless they are the Doctor), and so their story will hold. Scum, on the other hand, have to lie, and so their lies can be undone. A good Scum will lie as little as possible in order to minimize that risk, but the best way to do that is for them to speak as little as possible. I really can't think of a clearer way to put this. Well, maybe...if my argument is still not making sense, let me know, and I'll try a slightly different way of saying it. All three of which would hurt the Scum immensely. From a Scum perspective it would be better not to get into that situation in the first place. No, I'm recognizing that I am an exceptionally active Good Guy. Active Good Guys are the bane of Scum, and they will want them dead as quickly as possible. At the same time, my activity has drawn a lot of suspicions, and an overzealous Vigilante may decide to investigate my alignment the permanent way--by killing me. (I say overzealous because it would be just as easy, and far more helpful to Town, for the Cop to investigate me.) Either way, I am the most logical target for Doctor protection. As am I. You can lie with this woman as long as you like , as long as you never lie to her. That would mean a one-way trip through the mirror. -

Oh, and in response to this from Rapunzel: I would seriously advise you not to do that, not only because it appears like you're logged in anonymously (which is scummy), but also because workplace administrators can see you have a window open even if it's not visible, and you can get in trouble with your boss. Just a heads-up! Also, don't reply to quotes the way you did, if it's too much of a pain to copy/paste the quote tags, just break your response up or number it. When you respond completely inside a quote box like that, people can't direct quote you later, which sort of breaks the whole game situation. -

Except that I am making claims, and observations, and stating the facts, as I see them. If I were a Scum, my story would fall to pieces, not to mention I would be suicidally drawing the Good Guys' attention. Let's also not forget that there are members of the Good Guys who have Night Actions. By drawing all this attention to myself, I'm virtually guaranteeing that I will be targeted by at least one Night Action (if I survive to the night, anyway). If I were a Scum, there are four basic actions I could be facing: cop (which would out me as Scum, not good), blocker (which would prevent me from acting, which depending on the circumstances could be good or bad), doctor (from a player who thinks the Scum and/or the vigilante might want me dead, good but not worth the price), or vigilante (which would equal my death, also not good). That's two actions that would be almost guaranteed to end my game, one that would likely cause problems for my team, and one thats sort of good but could easily be replaced by, you know, not attracting Night Actions in the first place. On the other hand, since I'm a Good Guy, that means that, at worst, the blocker blocks me (which wouldn't really hurt the Good Guys), or the vigilante tries to kill me, but I'm hoping I'll get Doctor protection tonight so I'll be safe from both Scum and vig. And at best, the Cop investigates and confirms me, which means we have a guaranteed trusted Townie, the advantages of which are self-evident. -

Not at all. It shows I'm dedicated to helping the Good Guys win this thing. Post lists are often quite helpful in weeding out scummy players who fly under the radar. Scum don't like to draw attention to themselves; if I were Scum, posting four times as much as any other player would be a monumentally stupid move--as you can see, almost all of the attention is on me. If I were Scum, I'd have to worry about saying things that would incriminate me later, and I'd be having to worry about that four or more times as often as any other potential Scum. It's impossible to keep that amount of lies straight for any period of time. Of course, I'm a Good Guy, so I don't have to worry about that. Great vigilance, though, Charming--I would have never expected something useful out of you. Wrong. Scum like to hide under the radar, where they aren't in the spotlight and thus don't have to focus on making up consistent lies that sound like the truth. Even though they're lying liars that lie, even the most talented liar can't keep a story straight forever, and the more they talk the harder that gets. How? Enlighten me. -

And this helps us how? Either we find all the Scum and the game ends, or we don't. The Powers Above stated publicly that there are no Neutral parties we have to eliminate, so there's no reason to speculate on the number of scum. Guessing about it makes you look scummy. -

Granted, but if so why were you logged in to Eurobricks awake twice without even looking at the discussion? If work really is the cause, why log in wake up at all before you have time to contribute? Accusations are the only way forward. Also, let me point out: better blasted by me than thrown through the mirror. ...aaand ladies and gentlemen, the inevitable day 1 scumtell. The library is full of books in which individuals, not unlike Rapunzel here, start the first day off by speculating about the number of Scum, thinking it looks/is helpful. Allow me to be frank: it's not. It's unhelpful, and since it appears helpful without actually contributing anything, it's a very common Scum move. *waits for the inevitable comeback, quietly bets money on Charming as the one to say it...* -

Oh, pah-lease, you're just jealous because you left me and now I've found someone hotter than you. Let me put this simply. I'm accusing people because, without accusations, defenses, and discussion, we will be randomly condemning someone to eternity in the Mirror World. Also, I didn't consider Pig a pig, I considered him a person. (Now that he's dead, of course, I consider him pork, but that's because I haven't had breakast yet.) You, on the other hand, are scum, whether or not you're "Bad Guy" Scum. -
Say, when a user chooses to log in anonymously, does that mean you can't see which topics they are viewing when you are looking at their forum profile (i.e. it will always show "Viewing Board Index")? Just wanted to know.

The day is yet young, my friend. We may be lucky yet... You know, now that I think about it, why don't you tell us whether you're a Bad Guy or not? I mean, if you are a Bad Guy, you'll just lie, but completely dodging the question is a bit suspicious. I know I am a Good Guy, hoiw about you? Oh, that was directed at Pinnochio. -

I will! *drags Snow White into bedroom and locks door* *through the door* Yes, I already thanked her for putting the Wine In Front Of Me earlier. However, she's the first person I've seen here who's tried to make concrete, in-depth accusations based on the evidence we have available (even if one of those accusations IS of me). But I like my toys! Also, isn't Pinocchio a "boy"? In all serious, though, I do not trust you any more than I trust Pinocchio. Does that mean I won't sleep with you? Heck no, that just makes it hotter! Now come on, let's go have some fun...bring the mushrooms.
