They can be imbued into the construct's weapon at the normal rate, but as far as casting spells, I'd say no. This class, while open to all (I think), is not intended for Mages, at least in my opinion. EDIT: Also, I think this class would be a good one to implement a "weapons take extra effort to switch" rule. In most classes, it wouldn't be too fair, but given the general indirect nature of the class I think it would both make sense (the Engineer has to manually switch the construct's weapons) and it fits the "feel" of the class.

Arthur hesitates for a moment, but at the mention of Isabella he simply snarls and continues his attack on the Commander. -
Heroica RPG - Quest #31: Lions and Lambs

OOC: It lasts all battle, I think. Oh, that's right, I keep forgetting he has SP:7 instead of SP:3. -
Don't think so. If I were QM'ing a Quest, I wouldn't let two of the same thing stack. As I recall, Althior's mega-strike in Quest 17 only counted because he was Lucky AND the strikes against THOSE targets ONLY were also considered Lucky; it was a complex and special circumstance.

Sorry to see you go, Doc, but I'm at least you can come chat with us on the dead Writeboard now.

Heh, you have no idea. Hopefully this project will be a bit more entertining than just a book...

Heroica RPG - Quest #31: Lions and Lambs
Flipz replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
Arthur hears Alexandre groan and starts toward him with the Healing Staff, but then sees the Commander leering at him. He hesitates once more, and looks desperately at Luke and Skrall for guidance. Getting none, he makes his decision, and, turning his back on his rapidly-expiring friend, he blasts the Commander with Darkness from the Back Row. OOC: I just realized that Alexandre should have taken a Free Hit from the commander, which according to my calculations is exactly enough to have Knocked him Out. Also, since the Commander is in the Back Row AND I am in the back row, I deal normal damage with my spell but he only deals 1/4 damage to me, correct? -
I don't know, you have a pretty good father-son thing going on with De'kra, just expand on that (why does he have that fathering instinct? Did his grandfather teach him that? What WAS his relationship with his own father? etc.), and I think you'll be great.

Oh my god, yes. Holiday Artifacts. I am OK with this, though I still think that even then the artifacts should be EXTREMELY nerf-y things. SP:1 robes, possibly those Silk Gloves Scubacarrot mentioned, low-power stuff like that. A permanent shop is probably a bit much, tho, as would be powerful artifacts. Incidentally, aside from that Lucky Ribbon artifact I mentioned and possibly the Great Force, any of the artifacts on that list I made are free for other QMs to use at their and Sandy's discretion.

I don't know, without Artifacts, the only thing left to really differentiate characters is the roleplaying. And to be blunt...some players just are not good at that, especially when they first start. (I'm not naming fingers or pointing names, though! ) Artifacts, when done right, can be sort of a crutch, helping players to add a bit of flavor to their personality, a sort of jumping-off point for more complex, nuanced roleplaying. (I'll be debuting something next month that will hopefully help with that a bit, but still. ) I am a bit more hesitant about the artifact shop, though. I mean, I really, really want a Cloak of the Elven Spy, but I'm not sure if everyone having them would be a good idea. Haha, the "Three C's" strike again.

Does Anyone else find they frequently cross Themes?
Flipz replied to Faefrost's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Woooooooow. Somebody give this guy a medal. I've crossed themes a lot when I was younger, but nowadays sets end up being cannibalized for MOCs before I play with them all that much. I did have a funky cross-theme Christmas display with my modular buildings and the winter village sets (and lots of other crazy things) one year, but that's about it recently, unfortunately. -
How about removing the gem/elemental aspect, and have it focus more on special effects, like bypassing Deense or Stunning the opponent and the like? Also, to further separate it from Evoker, the Engineer shouldn't be able to attack at all, but can choose to spend Ether either repairing the invention or upgrading it (by using a Scroll on it). That also decreases the "pseudo-permanent Hastened" nature, which is one thing that's rather unique about the Evoker class.

Just throwing out a bunch of ideas I've come up with that I haven't found a place for. Wool Trousers - User regenerates 2 HP at the end of each turn. Great Force - Doubles the damage the user gives--AND takes! Greed Wallet - Add 1% of user's current gold to attack. (Possibly unsuitable for Rogues, for balance?) Adhesive Glove - 1 in 6 chance of stealing 1 loot item from targetted foe. If the foe drops no items, the roll is not made. Effect may only be used once per battle. Bracelet of Heroism - User gains SP equal to 1/4 their level, but must always attack the strongest opponent in battle. Boots of Evasion - User takes half damage from a successful area attack, 50/50 chance of dodging it completely. (Does not apply if user triggers said area attack). Belt of Heroism - User designates a target of protection at the start of the (battle/round, whichever is best for balance). User will take all damage (including status effects) for that target. Amulet of Resurrection - If an attack would normally Knock Out the target in one hit, target is left with 1 HP instead. Breaks upon successful use. Costs 1150 Gold. *Note: I have a permanent (i.e. non-breaking) version of this artifact (called the Lucky Ribbon) planned for use in a Quest, I think for balance purposes the permanent version should stay unique.

Those are from LEGO Universe, it's concept art for stuff that was never released, due to LU being shut down. I posted it a while back. EDIT: I posted it here, I didn't create that gorgeous artwork. Wish I had that kind of drawing talent, though.

Don't you just love it when a perfect roleplaying opportunity just drops into your lap? Also: Yes! Finally one of you I can actually build without having to buy specific sets! Although if I may make a suggestion, I think she'd look really nice with Hawkeye's legs. It's a minor change, and Hawkeye's legs don't have a lot of detail, but I have a feeling it'd work really well.

Heroica RPG - Quest #31: Lions and Lambs
Flipz replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
Arthur twitches momentarily, then turns lets off a minor jinx at the Dragon Pikeman that makes his voice sound like a sports announcer. He winces as he realizes it will only increase the hamminess. "Gotta work on that impulse control..." he mutters. Returning his attention to the battle, he sees Alexandre injured. His gaze glances back and forth between his Amethyst and his Healing Staff, his Amethyst and his healing staff. He looks at Alexandre, then at Skrall, and finally at Isabella. "What're ya waitin' for, ya daft fool?" Knyghton shouts. "Ya know what ya've got ta do!" Knyghton returns his attention to the battle and begins to attack Pikeman A, but stops mid-strike. Dodging the Pikeman's opportunistic jabs, he turns and shouts to Skrall, "Ya know what you have ta do, too, Hunter! Yer Heavy Crossbow'd be more than a bit helpful in tha early rounds, ye'd bes' remeber tha' fer tha future." Seeing that Arthur still hasn't decided upon an action, he shouts, "Bloody hell! If ye're tha' confused, jus' pick somethin' and do it, fer cryin' out loud!" before continuing his planned attack from the front row. OOC: Arthur's action will be determined based on your characters' advice. WBD, this includes both Luke and Skrall. Please keep said advice character-based, thank you. Dharkan, Isabella should wait until at least one of the others has spoken before talking to Arthur. -
Hmm...OK, I'll keep that in mind. Also: Can't. Stop. Giggling!

Remember, I'm saying "in the eyes of the Wolfgang". The Wolfgang want all of the power for themselves, and Heroica is a major power player in Eubric; they aren't a House in the traditional sense, but if you want to take down all the power players in Eubric you either need to destroy or otherwise neutralize Heroica. They would, naturally, be on the Wolfgang's "hit list" like any of the six Houses; in that way, they are like another House to the Wolfgang. That's what I was trying to get across; like you said, for all other purposes, they are NOT House-like. I couldn't quite understand your second paragraph, but in my point of view, money in Eubric can breed loyalty just as much as anything else. The Wolfgang are a reliable payday for Haldor, Skrall, and Nur, and though I don't know if that would breed loyalty in-character, from a theoretical point of view, the kind of Heroes who accept bribes for an easy payday are relatively easily enticed to serve the Wolfgang. In the Wolfgang's eyes, a constant stream of Gold would be enough to ensure those Heroes' "loyalty."
-
Well, as Sandy said, the actual source of the request would have to be (thinly) disguised, perhaps as some sort of private firm or something of the like, something that would divert suspicion but still gain the interest of the Heroes who might favor the Wolfgang. And by hiring Heroica, the advantage would be twofold: first, the Heroes would be unlikely suspects in the eyes of the Houses, and second, they'd be simultaneously gaining a spy within whatever House they're trying to infiltrate, AND they'd be gaining more allies within Heroica. The way I see it, in the Wolfgang's eyes, Heroica is like another House, but one that (unlike the other six) is disproportinately strong compared to the others. They'd want to turn as many Heroes as possible to their side before launching any major push against the established Houses. They don't like Heroica and the power it has, but as a somewhat mercenary organization they see ways of using it to their own ends and, in the long term, undermining it by "stealing" its Heroes (by making the Heroes loyal to them).

"Come on, hit her, hit her!" Arthur whispers, too quietly for anyone but the Voice in the Sky to hear. OOC: -
In that case, why split the party at all? If it's something like "the party surrounds the bad guy by sending half the party down the alley while the other half goes up the other end", then it's unnecessary. If they really are split up and doing different things, then there doesn't need to be communication between the party members, they should just do their thing and meet back up again in a designated meeting place when both groups are done with their mini-missions. To summarize and make my rule of thumb more general purpose: "If they need to communicate in-topic, just handwave it. If the separation is large enough that they realistically can't communicate, split them off into a side-Quest."
-
You're painting the Wolfgang as if they were noble or something. I really don't like that idea. Suggestion: Wolfgang-oriented Quests are, by nature, full of intrigue, betrayal, and suspicion. They aren't for the faint of heart, which is why I don't plan on using them too much.
-
2. There are ways (i.e. Arthur's Journals, and the Sending spell used for Z-mail), but most of them are a bit rare. And honestly, if you're just looking for ship-to-ship communication, either handwave it (just let Heroes on different ships chat freely in battle, assume they're shouting or something) or else split the party and run the Quest with one group using the main topic and the other in PMs, if you're worried about "realistic" communication. My adice would just be to handwave it on the ship(s), and only do the side-Quest type party split if it's a major, plot-related thing on land. EDIT: spelling.
