"'Scuse me for just a minute." Arthur scribbles a quick note, races back to Chalvo, hands over the note, and runs back, all at top speed.
-
Arthur nods surreptitiously to Thalion, indicating that he's willing to go along with this plan.

Whoops. Password's "eurobricks".

Well, she WAS almost the first one to 15... Also, didn't Sandy cap the experience regression so that 1/3 level per fight was the lowest you could get? And Pie, as I've said before, I consider Bric'bay "fuzzy canon", meaning everything happened, but no one has clear memories of it. Feel free to have the street run both ways.

Arthur skids to a halt as he spots Captain Illdria. "Uh-oh..." He quickly magicks up a small note, which appears surreptitiously in Thalion's hand. In accordance with his guise, Arthur follows quietly behind Thalion. OOC: Password for the Writeboard is "eurobricks".

Arthur leaves a note for Admiral Thraune explaining the situation, warning them to be on guard against the Bonaparte confiscations, and asking for their cooperation in the Party's cover story. "Well, Barur, sorry to lead you down a dead end. Let's rejoin the others at the Magpie."
-
"I will go visit the Chimaera at the docks. If the rest of you wish to join me, I will not object to it, I simply thought it would be more efficient to split up to cover more ground."
-
I'm going to make a guess now (and this is something that Arthur would not have picked up on, incidentally), but with regards to those posters, I'm pretty sure that one of those posters will be for

...but once again I find that my ideas have already been done--and done better than I could--before I can even pitch them...

"Ah, well, worth a shot. Still, I'd suggest if you know anyone there, you drop them a V-mail once this mess is cleared up." Arthur notes this new information with interest as he turns back to the party. "Hmm...with both cadets out of the picture for now, perhaps De'kra and Thalion should head to the docks near the Magpie to observe the situation--if anyone asks why you're there, you can tell them you're merely observing their handiwork or something, and maybe even convince them to give you a tour of the ship. You can borrow my Telescope if you think it will help. Barur and I can visit the Chimaera and have a talk with Admiral Thraune to solidify our cover story. Does that sound like a plan to everyone? De'kra, what does your Magic Compass tell you?"
-
"Hmm...Avinkyl wouldn't happen to be anywhere near Strivvi, would it? Or Dastan? If I recall, there's a team of Heroes at the former now, and I have a few contacts in the latter as well. A V-mail or two--" the words leave a foul taste on Arthur's tongue, but he tries not to show it "--could at least let them know to keep an eye out for it, so they can recover the ship at a later date." Arthur shrugs. "Anyway, the only other thing of note I've found on this note is the reference to Magpie--at first, I assumed it was the name of the harbormaster, but now that I take another look I see it's the name of the ship as well. If you'll give me a moment, I'll look through these records for all references to the term 'Magpie' and try to deduce any patterns." Arthur also checks to see if the Chimaera is in port--if it was too far out from the Free Islands, he'd have to rethink the party's cover story.

Arthur deposits the harbormaster with the cadets, makes sure all three are securely bound in such a way that their blindfolds will prevent them from seeing or hearing anything, then turns to Chalvo. "The Wavebreaker isn't the first of your ships the Bonapartes have taken. All have successfully reached port before being intercepted, then sent out to random locations as 'Operire Goods'--does that term mean anything to you? The Wavebreaker was sent to a port called 'Avinkyl' on the sixth day of Harvest." "Of even more importance is the location to which these stolen goods are transported--a place called "Warehouse O"--before being moved to the Bonaparte docks, from which they depart. Also, these records indicate that an offer is made--it may well be that many of your captains have been bribed and/or blackmailed into joining the Bonapartes." "How do you wish us to proceed? Shall we pursue the Wavebreaker, or investigate the Warehouse? Also, what do you wish us to do with the captured Bonaparte cadets and harbormaster--shall we leave them in some back alley for the Wolfgang to find? Or do you wish to take them to the Palace in hopes of potentially...acquiring...Bonaparte secrets from them--as I'm sure they have done to the crews of your ships."

"Why is the rum always gone?" Arthur grumbles. He uses his telescope to surreptitiously look out the window to see if they had any "company" below; if not, he makes one last sweep for valuables (including things like the rug or the chandelier, extinguishes and takes the lamp, and leads the party back to Chalvo.

Oops! Additonal Loot distribution: Thalion - Mulled Wine Barur - Mulled Wine "Here you two, this should even the odds if we end up in a really tough fight. Don't use them unless it's absolutely necessary, though." Arthur checks to see if there are any more recent thefts in the records than the Wavebreaker, then stores ALL the records and identifying letters in his pack. "I tell you, it's the Hinckwells and Shadeaux all over again. Well, as completely ineffectual as the Town Watch are, I think they could make good use of this evidence, if our employers don't follow up on it. Or we could take it back to the Hall, ask Schezerade or Byblos to turn it in to the Veterans, maybe it'd convince them to stop defending these cheats." Arthur then looks to see if there is a bottle of rum that the Harbormaster forgot to drink.

Loot Distribution: Arthur - Blunt Dagger, shipping logs De'kra - 5 Gold Thalion - 5 Gold Barur - 5 Gold "So, it appears our friend was right about Bonaparte corruption. Let's see if we can't glean any more information." Arthur scans through the shipping logs to see if any other ships had been intercepted in the past few months. Arthur waves his hand dismissively. "If you want to dangle him out the window for a bit, be my guest, but I think it'd be more discrete to just leave him with the others." After his look through the records, Arthur strips the harbormaster of any valuables, and looks for anything on him or in the office that could serve as an identifying mark--i.e. a signet ring, or papers conferring Bonaparte authority, or particularly letters of marque--as well as any spare Bonaparte uniforms and/or emblems.

De'kra's always been a Morality Chain for Arthur, he's just never realized it yet. EDIT: Arthur: taking Kleptomanic Hero to a new level since 2012.
-
"Fine, then, let's take what we can and make it quick. I have no opinion on the elemental bombs, but since Thalion and Barur can't Flee on their own, they should take a Smoke Bomb each--to be returned to you after the Quest if not used." Arthur quickly binds, blindfolds, and gags the Harbormaster before reading through the logbook. Arthur then moves over behind Thalion. "Anything good in that chest?" he asks, peering over the Elf's shoulder to look inside.
-
"Unless De'kra finds some reason we need him alive? Permanently." Arthur grins wickedly; he had had enough delays on this Quest, now the people of this city would do what he wanted--or else.

I apologize if Arthur's a bit bitchy for the next few days, I've had a horrible week IRL and I'm too exhausted at this point to keep it from bleeding into my character. Also, the holidays sort of suck in general for me, so that's not exactly improving my mood. Word of advice, Pie: if you plan on introducing any recurring NPCs in the next few days, you may want to make substitutions. Unless you want an NPC death count to match the Dastan Quests. Just saying. I'm not asking for sympathy or anything, but I kind of am at the same time, so... What, that? That was mild. You don't even want to know where my mind is going at this point...
-
"Yeah, no. I did my good deed for the day with those cadets, this fool ran out my patience. De'kra, examine EVERYTHING in this room thoroughly, including the harbormaster. If nothing in here needs him to be alive for us to access it, I'm slitting his throat."
-
EDIT: "Yeah, screw this." Arthur uses his Scroll of Sleep on the Harbormaster. "There. Problem solved."
-
Arthur begins to feel that he may have accidentally used that Scroll of Confusion on himself. He sighs. "Barur, I know this is unfair of me to ask, but can you give this fine fellow one of your Tonics?"
-
"Know a place that sells good, cheap drink?"
-
Screw diplomacy, let's kill everything in sight!
-
"No, of course not, it's not a drink, but it would feel even better than a drink...if you're up for it. But of course, it's your choice. What kind of drinks do you like, anyway?"
