Round 2 of the Foiled Feast: >Pretzel (Splinter Broom) vs. Haagenti the Facetious' Shield - Enhancement Upgraded Hit (Haagenti's Shield: 7*9=63+35+2=100 damage (Shield KO!), no Stun) >Byblos casts Arc Frailty - Failure (Byblos: -16 Ether) Atramor (Mythril Claws) vs. Glasya-Labolas, the Demon of Primal Fears & Gusion, the Child Snatcher - SHIELD Special Damage (Grand Theft Hero - Glasya: (32*3)+42=138*2/2=132 HP drained + Enamored with Atramor; Gusion: (32*3)+42=138*2=276 HP drained + Enamored with Atramor; Atramor: full health, steals Fearomone+Infant, +2 WP) Hybros (Sword of Ancestral Hatred) vs. Cimeries the Bull Demon & (Iustitia) vs. Andras, the Lance of Wrath - Dual Special Damage Dual Damage (Hybros: 0 (Blind)+32=32 damage) Hybros (Sword of Ancestral Hatred) vs. Cimeries the Bull Demon & (Iustitia) vs. Andras, the Lance of Wrath - Dual Damage Dual Damage (Hybros: 0 (Blind)+32=32 damage) >Althior (Light, Mythril Scepter of Divine Affinity) vs. Foras the Shredder - Aimed Spell (Foras: 35+10=45*2*2=180 damage + no Cursed; Althior: -1 Ether) >Namyrra (Light, Crystal Mace) vs. Andras, the Lance of Wrath - Damage (Namyrra: 32/2=16 damage) Free Hits: Bune + Haures vs. Pretzel: 0 damage (Blind)+0 damage (Blind)=0 damage Camio + Marax vs. Byblos: 0 damage (Blind)+28 damage=28/2=14 damage Focalor + Purson vs. Atramor: 0 damage (Blind) + Zoot's Boon - Gusion: +400 health; Purson: -2 Ether = 0 damage Furfur + Sabnock vs. Hybros: 0 damage (Blind)+0 damage (Blind)=0 damage Furfur + Uvall vs. Althior: 0 damage (Blind)+0 damage (Blind)=0 damage Gusion + Vepar vs. Namyrra: 24 damage+0 damage (Blind)=24/2=12-10=2 damage Althior: +1 Ether (Transcended) Pretzel starts the Round off well, completely demolishing Haggenti's shield with a tremendous blow, while Atramor beats Gusion at his own game, snatching the child from the child-snatcher even as he steals the demons' health and hearts. He'll have to devote his time to caring for the infant, however, if he wants it to survive. From there, however, the Heroes falter; Hybros takes two crushing hits from an angry Andras, putting him in critical condition, while Byblos and Namyrra both botch their spells. Even Althior can barely aim a spell at his target, and Atramor's own efforts are largely negated by Purson's healing touch. Guest QM Note: Yes, Byblos' Scroll rolls were a 3 and a 5, respectively. -
Ah, excellent. All right, fixed.

Okay, so having rolled the first Grand Theft Hero in the game, I believe I ran it correctly (I treated it the same way I would a Shaman's Blood Ritual), but just in case I misread the intent of the ability, I'd like to hear if anyone thinks the damage should be treated like a physical attack instead.

Guest QM Note: Hey everyone! Please double-check your damage outputs--I think I accounted for everyone's permanent Power bonuses, but I wouldn't be surprised if I missed one somewhere. Other than that, we should be ready to roll. Round 1 of the Foiled Feast: >Pretzel (Splinter Broom) vs. Haagenti the Facetious' Shield - Special Damage SHIELD (Toolkit: Finders Keepers! – Pretzel: roll of 5, +500 Gold) >Byblos casts Arc Blindness - Success! (all vulnerable enemies: Blinded; Byblos: -13 Ether) >Byblos casts Arc Frailty - Failure (Byblos: -17 Ether) Atramor (Mythril Claws) vs. Decarabia, the Daughter of Naamah (twice) - Steal & Hide SHIELD (Grand Theft Hero - Decarabia: +((30*3)+42=132*2*2=528-80=448)+((30*3)+42=132*2*2=528-70=458)=509 HP drained + Enamored with Atramor (KO!); Atramor: full health, steals Spider Demon's Cowl, +2 WP) >Althior (Light, Mythril Scepter of Divine Affinity) vs. Foras the Shredder - Spell (Foras: 35+55+10=100*2*2=400 damage + no Cursed; Althior: -1 Ether) >Namyrra (Light, Crystal Mace) vs. Andras, the Lance of Wrath - Spell (Andras: 45+51=96*2=192-15=177 damage; Namyrra: -1 Ether) >Hybros uses Nostrum from Hollow Blade - (Hybros: Lucky) >Hybros (Hollow Dagger) vs. Glasya-Lobolas the Demon of Primal Fears & (Iustitia) vs. Furfur the Inevitable Lightning - Dual Hit Dual Special Damage (Glasys-Lobolas: 6+44+3=53*2/2=53 damage + Confused; Furfur: 12+44+3=59*2*2*2/2=236 damage + Blinded) >Hybros (Sword of Ancestral Hatred) vs. Cimeries the Bull Demon & (Iustitia) vs. Vepar the Demon of Drowning - Dual Hit Riposte (Cimeries: 49+44+3=96*2*2*2/2/2=192 damage + Fragile; Vepar: 12+44+3=59*2/2=59 damage + Blinded + Sealed) Free Hits: Bune + Marax vs. Pretzel: 0 damage (Blind) + 28 = 28/2=14-72=0 damage Camio + Purson vs. Byblos: 0 damage (Blind) + Zoot's Boon - Furfur: +400 health; Purson: -2 Ether = 0 damage Focalor + Sabnock vs. Atramor: 0 damage (Blind) + 0 damage (Blind) = 0 damage Furfur + Uvall vs. Althior: 0 damage (Blind) + 0 damage (Blind) = 0 damage Gusion vs. Namyrra: 24/2=12-10=2 damage Haures vs. Hybros: 0 damage (Blind) For a brief instant it appears that the party's demon-fighting will begin with tremendous injury, but in that moment Pretzel's greedy eyes latch on to a glint of gold. Heedless of his own danger, he pulls out his pickaxe and prizes free a few valuable gold coins from between the cracks in the floor, the sudden motion throwing off the demon's aim entirely. With the horde distracted by Pretzel's gold-lust, Byblos is able to concentrate on his spell, burning through a majority of his Ether but successfully casting most of the demons into blindness. Unfortunately, his spell of Frailty fizzles before it can make contact. Atramor decides to dance with Decarabia, his nimble fingers stealing her health, her leg, her clothes, and her heart, the Rogue thief clearly putting the "amor" in "Atramor" before at last stealing her life. Althior and Namyrra cast twin beams of burning Light at their foes, while Hybros wheels and whirls, blades dancing in the dimness, striking each foe with pinpoint precision. Unfortunately, his hearty work on Furfur is diminished as Purson envelops the Inevitable Lightning in a demonic healing glow. The enemies flail uselessly in their blindness, with Marax slashing futilely at Pretzel while Gusion grabs Namyrra's arm with skin-piercingly sharp claws. THE BATTLE CONTINUES! Arthur trails behind at the back of the group, uncharacteristically quiet, the burden of the angels replaced by the burden of Miirym's absence. Still, he had a mission, and with luck Miirym had already rendered it unnecessary. ...he wasn't going to count on it, though. "I've never been to this place, but I recall him being in a place filled with flowers the last time we spoke via vision. If he's anything like the other enemies whose lairs I've had to invade, though, we'd be best served searching through the place room-by-room." "...piano demons?" I don't remember anything like that in the Pandemonicon...must have been after its time.

Barring a power outage, I should be available until Friday, and even then I'll have some time (just not as much). I'd be happy to help!

Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion

4. MISSTEP: The dancer (or maybe her partner) trips causing the dancer to miss her attack. She continues to grant her partner a status effect but a value of 1 is added to her die /roll on the next round. So if you roll 2-4 6s' in a row (depending on effects and Minstrel songs), you might possibly take regular Damage. Assuming you don't dodge it. I don't see this class ever getting officially adopted, but if it were I'd at least want the +1 penalty from Misstep applied to more rolls, and/or for it to be cumulative based on how many successful rolls have been made in a row. -
Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion

Quoted For Truth. -
"...Arx will be fine. Miirym will not let him come to harm. And Immortalis will not harm her." ...I hope. "...yes." Arthur turns somberly back towards the Hall, his thoughts mirroring that of his party's leader. He clings desperately to one thread of hope: Charon had not gone as far as he could have in his choice of hostage. Perhaps they had finally reached the limits of their enemies' depravity? His thoughts return to Vaermina. No, he thinks to himself, we have not.
-
<"...I am...unopposed. But you would be held to my promise of peace. And Charon is the one whose decision determines your presence.">
-
"It was your friends who refused to let me administer a Phoenix Essence." Arthur looks to Miirym. "It's your choice." Miirym takes a few moments, landing near Arthur as she weighs the options. <...all right. I accept.> Arthur embraces his adtoptive daughter. "Be safe. Be well." He looks her straight in the eye. "Make good use of your time with him, all right?" Miirym nods, looking vulnerable. <I will.> She turns her attention to Charon. <I'm ready.>
-
"I'm tired, Vindsval. Tired of the bickering, the suffering, all of it. I want to do right by these angels, but I don't trust Charon to do it. I want to convince Immortalis to cease this storm, but I don't trust all of this party will stand behind that message when I try to deliver it. And therein lies the problem: I have so few people I can fully trust, I have to try and solve everything myself. I'm not doing any good as a part of this party anyway, so I might as well try to do some good on my own, in the way that only I can." <You truly believe this? That you are accomplishing nothing?> Arthur shrugs his shoulders. "Yes." The Dragoon droops wearily, bone-tired. <...hmm.>
-
"...thank you. Much appreciated." At Karie's command, Arthur slowly nods. "Very well...but I'm going with them. I don't trust Charon, and I'd like another shot at trying to talk Immortalis down. I bet Miirym would, too." <Indeed.> "Would that be acceptable, Charon?" Arthur asks Diplomatically. "I doubt Immortalis would be opposed. And I give you my word Miirym and I will go with you in peace. I'll even leave my equipment with the Heroes, if that will reassure you."
-
"...see, I want you to be telling the truth, because your concerns for them are mirroring mine. The problem is...I just don't believe you. In the short time I've known you angels, none of you have shown even small traces of humanity or decency--only blackmail and coercion and violence and hatred. Even when Telethia died your comrades would not allow me to save her. So I'm finding it hard to believe that you actually give a damn about them. And as for their treatment, if your friend Vaermina--who you refused to let us stop, I should point out--hadn't drawn our attention with her disgusting magic show, then Corvis and Glaz would already be in Heroica Hall getting that very treatment. So again, until I personally see they are being properly cared for, they are not leaving my sight." <Nor mine.> Arthur's forehead wrinkles as Siercon grabs him and the angels; it's clear he wants to facepalm but can't while he's keeping the angels shielded beneath his cloak. "Gods dammit, why does this keep happening to me tonight?" "...gods dammit." Arthur looks to Karie and Masson, not wanting to let his personal biases keep him from following their cues.
-
<And when you inevitably force your friends back into action to try and stop us, they'll only come to more harm--and worse, if together you somehow manage to stop us, all the rioters die anyway in the storm.> Arthur tries his own hand at Diplomacy. "It would be best for everyone involved if we simply return them once we enter Eschaton, as we originally planned. If you want your friends returned there right this instant, you might as well take us with you--we're going there regardless, and I suspect you're planning to fight us anyway, so we might as well save all of us a lot of time and cut to the chase."
-
OOC: Still semi-inactive, I just wanted to get my say in. This took me way longer than it should have... Arthur's gaze goes ice cold at the discovery of Vaermina's actions. He growls something unintelligible, though one word sounds suspiciously like 'Oculoids'. Miirym passes Glaz into Arthur's waiting grasp as she takes to the sky, presumably in an attempt to catch sight of the fallen angel, though she also keeps a wary eye on the events unfolding below. At first, it seems Arthur's mood can grow no more foul, but against all odds the next interaction manages to upset him even further. Arthur dips his head, just enough that the flashing thunderbolts cast the shadow of his brow over his eyes, like the face of a grim, shadowy skull. He didn't like where this conversation was headed, not one bit. "This wasn't why I rescued them..." the Dragoon mutters, more to himself than to anyone else, but neither did he try particularly hard to stay quiet. Arthur thinks for a moment, glances for a fraction of a second at Karie's back, then locks eyes with Corvis. "...no. Surely not." The brief glance is not lost on Miirym. <He would, wouldn't he...the dragon put you up to this, didn't he? He surely can't operate on good faith, no, he has to take things to extremes.> "Miirym and I have gone to great lengths to keep your friends safe. Not to be used as bargaining chips, but merely because it was the right thing to do. If you've harmed your hostage or those caring for them in any way...you must realize that it is your life that will be forfeit, not these two. Even an agent of Immortalis must recognize at some level how wrong it is to harm the innocent..." <After that display just now? Do they even know the meaning of the word 'innocent'? Based on their behavior thus far, I must conclude not.> He doesn't say it, but Miirym's analysis makes sense to Arthur. He grows even more worried, clutching the unconscious angels even more protectively as he draws his cloak tighter around them.
-
I'm sorry guys. I just opened my Twitter feed, and I just... I'm going to need a few days. I'm sorry. Oh, uh, I guess Karie can take Arthur and Miirym for now. If anything super important comes up, PM me I guess? I get email alerts for that, so yeah. I'm sorry, I legitimately can't function right now.
-
Arthur nods and relays Arx's words to the rest of the party. Arthur pulls himself free from the huddle Lind had dragged him--literally--into. "Lind," he says, not bothering to keep his voice quiet. "This isn't a dream, nor a game, nor anything else. This is real life. With real consequences. Is it a test? Probably. But that doesn't mean it's isolated from reality. When Immortalis conducts his little trials to make his little judgments, he puts real people with real lives on the line. We shouldn't be trying to pass his tests because they're tests, we should be passing his tests because we're doing the right thing, test or no." <We can try to convince him of how wrong his actions are. And to that end, beating him on his own level is most helpful. But ultimately, we must beat him, by word, by blade, or by both.>" "Indeed. Immortalis is not a good person. I believe he can be. But if he refuses to be...well, there's not much I can do for him. As much as I'd like to see this night end with minimal bloodshed, his life is not worth that of all the innocents in Eubric. Now, can we please start investigating that alley? As I just said, I don't want to leave behind something that's going to bite us in the rear later down the line."
-
<It can quite easily be both, you know.> From the tone of her telepathy, Miirym seems quite unimpressed with Masson's lack of lateral thinking--or perhaps it was the stress of trying to shelter both Arthur and the unconscious Glaz from the storm. Arthur tries to speak over the storm, his voice muffled by the cloak he'd wrapped around himself as completely as possible. "As much as I'd like to move forward and get out of this storm, I really don't like the idea of something else coming back to bite us. Besides, at least there's more shelter in this alley than in the main street." Arthur looks to Karie. "It's your call, Karie, but my vote goes to investigating." <...and mine as well.>
-
"And...well, so is Miirym. I know she's on the side of 'Immortalis is too dangerous to let live', but..." Arthur takes a second to inhale deeply, before lowering his voice, speaking only to Karie. "If we're forced to kill him, it's going to hurt her. Deeply. Forever. She met two of her three known relatives while we were traipsing around the afterlife in Etheria. And this party seems Hel-bent on killing the third. Now, I can't blame you or the others for killing her father--everything we've heard tells me he earned it. But that's far removed from making her have to do it herself--and I'd prefer she had at least one blood relative around to help her handle the parts of Dragon-hood I just don't understand." He gives Karie a sidelong glance. "You...do realize the risk I'm taking in telling you all this, right? She's already traumatized enough by our little argument with Immortalis back in the tunnels, and I don't trust the rest of this party not to jump on her if the truth came out. Hel, I'm not even sure Miirym would want me to know if she'd been given the option, let alone a Minstrel she barely knows. But I trust you, Karie. You're a parent as well. You understand how much we go through trying to protect our children. I'm just trying to make the best of a really bad situation." OOC: Shoot, didn't pay attention to the clock, thought that would auto-merge.
-
"Well, Immortalis deserves a massive beating, if not necessarily death. Vaermina. That smug Charon character, maybe--though I'm not sure how much of what I've picked up has been accurate given how...bloodthirsty some of its source has been. But if we're talking big picture...Heroica, frankly. In the year I was gone, I'd forgotten just how messed up this organization is. I looked at it through nostalgia rather than fact. Immortalis is worried about war...and quite frankly, it's one of the few cases where he's not wrong. Eubric is careening towards civil war...and Heroica makes for the perfect soldiers--selfish, bloodthirsty, easily manipulated, and damned near immortal. Part of me wonders if just vaping Heroica--or even just the damned artifact--would solve the problem. It wouldn't stop the war, but it'd certainly push it back for a long, long time." Arthur sighs. "Then I remember the Darkness. It's bad, Karie--think a mindless, no-personality Regret on steroids. Imagine an army of invisible, intangible body-stealing Oculoids--and once you're grabbed, you're done, period, no cure, no coming back. Immortal, too. It's been sealed under Etheria for millenia--with Immortalis' assistance, I should point out--but now some idiot's trying to release it, and suddenly the army of vicious overpowered immortal Heroican mercenaries sounds like a much better idea in the context of stopping them. I don't know, I just..." Arthur allows his shoulders to slump. "I just know that innocent people don't deserve it. And lately a lot of them have been getting caught in the crossfire. And if Heroes keep acting solely in their own best interests, a lot more are going to."
-
No, she just "broadcasts" on a general frequency unless she's deliberately trying to speak to only someone specific. Again, she follows Vipera rules (see Dastan, 53, 104, and 139).
