  1. "I'll...keep that in mind." The levity of the Heroes, and of Karie's irreverent song, helped, of course, but it was still far too soon after Miirym's departure. Only time could ease that pain, and only just. Still, at least the edge of his pain no longer shone through a bloodstained visage like lightning through the blackest storm. Arthur finishes wiping the blood from his face as Flavius finishes his work. "Somehow, I think the greaves and those wings would clash. I would prefer the Greaves myself, if it came down to it. Not much of the rest I could really use, even if I changed my fighting style."
  2. Arthur hesitates, but at last he takes the cloth. "Don't know about 'worthy', nor 'honorable', but I suppose for now I can stay." It goes against every instinct he has, but Arthur knows Heroica--perhaps even some of these very Heroes--could be great allies if his daughter finds herself in need of aid. It would not do for him to alienate them once again...no matter how alien their companionship feels to him right now.
  3. It really depends. I, personally, don't think level-boosting starts to be worth it until the Level-30s. However, if you're super close to a major leveling milestone, I suppose it could be worth it. I'd recommend the Gold, though; gold has become fleetingly rare in drops recently, and overleveling can push you out of a desired level bracket for Quests (though with how few there've been lately, brackets have seemed to be widening considerably as of late).
  4. Arthur looks moodily away from the Dragonlord. Most likely, he and the Veteran will soon be having words--but they will not be had right now. The ex-Dragoon listens as the Veteran declares the Quest a success... But it wasn't. Not for him. Eubric had been saved, sure. By contract, by Heroica, the mission was a success. But by the standards of a father, the night had been a disastrous failure...of the worst possible kind. So much had been lost--his allies, his friendships, his faith in Heroica...and finally, last and worst of all, the daughter he cared about above all else. As he gazes impassively across the ancient timbers of Heroica Hall, he sees something for the first time. Rot. Weakness. Erosion. For the first time, Arthur can see what Immortalis saw, a glimpse of the future he'd feared. Twice he had fought climactic battles to save Eubric from calamity. Twice he had lost everything. Perhaps, on some level, the ancient Dragon had been right about the city all along. "Well. We saved the city." Arthur looks straight at the Dragonlord, face still stained with Immortalis' blood. "Now all that's left is to make sure it was worth the cost. Good luck with that. But if no one else needs me, I do believe I promised the Proggs some help with the colony we so-called 'heroes' destroyed." Arthur half-heartedly looks over the rest of the party. "Unless there's something I'm forgetting?"
  5. "That's exactly what I'm afraid of." Arthur stares at the elven Knight in disbelief. "They're people. Calling Miirym a 'pet' is no less disrespectful than calling an elf 'point-ears'--it's a needless slur that addresses nothing worthy of insult. People are people, no matter their form." The spray of the Dragon's blood splatters across Arthur's face, and he doesn't bother to wipe it off, the sticky red substance adhering to his skin as he lets it stand. For a moment, Arthur looks as if he's going to stay--not just for now, but forever, unmoving until the tide ends him utterly. But it is only a moment, and as he always has, Arthur struggles on. Still, he can't help but feel sadness--not for Ikarus, the being Immortalis had refused to die as, nor for his daughter, who had chosen her own path of her own free will. No, for once his sorrow was for himself, a weary melancholy as Arthur realizes that for the next while, his Dragoon days are over. He idly wonders what road he'll walk next--Regulator? Skirmisher? For now, at least, all that matters is to return to Eubric, to the family he still has--and perhaps to call in a few owed favors, to keep a watchful eye on the daughter he has lost. Seeing Karie seeking the dying Flowers of Sybil, Arthur quietly hands Masson the bundle of flowers he'd claimed from Telethia. "I think someone could use these right about now," he says to the man, with a nod towards his wife. He follows the group, but takes a moment to pull out his Magic Compass in search of Corvis and Glaz. He hangs near the back of the party, hoping for a private word with Gabriel as well.
  6. At the sight of another person threatening Immortalis, Miirym makes a lunge for Gabriel...only for Arthur to stand in the way. Miirym tries to move around the Dragoon, but he intercepts her path again and again. Miirym growls. <Father...move.> Arthur shakes his head. "I will not," he says sadly. "Vindsval is right. You are fighting the darkness in your blood...and you are losing. I trusted you to win your fight, to make the right choice for the right reason...to grow as a person from it. But you are walking down the path of your forefathers...including me. And I will not stand aside and let my own daughter follow in my footsteps. I lost myself to that path...I won't lose you, too." Miirym takes one step back, two. The golden dragon spreads her wings. Arthur braces himself for a leap, to intercept her mid-flight. Miirym launches herself into the air-- And in an instant is gone, soaring away into the starry night sky. Arthur stands in shocked, too stunned to intervene as he watches her go.
  7. OOC: Endgame, it's been six days since the last Round was rolled. Is something up? Did I miss something hugely critical in my plan? I know Siercon isn't throwing the bomb, so we're going to get KOs, but it's a little late to change the plan now, and it's not like we haven't all suffered teammates' mistakes of inattention (and made them ourselves!) before and just had to deal with it. Sorry if I'm coming off a little snippy, I'm just really tired and worn out and looking forward to wrapping things up here so I can have some actual downtime before my next Quest. "...would you look at that, I do believe that was the sound of any sympathy I had left for you going out the window. Good job throwing away one of the last sympathetic ears you had. Way to leave a positive legacy for your granddaughter, too, fantastic work there." Arthur waits impatiently for the perfect opening to reveal itself. "Are we almost done here yet? I'd like to get home sometime before Grogmas." <Father...> "No, Miirym. I refuse to take this moron seriously anymore. He's lost the right to that respect."
  8. Guest QM Note: Since you didn't specify a weapon and all living enemies are immune to poison anyway, I assumed you'd use the highest WP weapon in your inventory (especially since you can freely switch weapons). I'll leave last Round as-is, but starting this one I'll assume you're using the Ebony Scorpion Spear until you specify otherwise. Round 7 of the Crimson Crown Crackdown: Ellaria (Mythril Mallet) vs. The Cardinal - Damage Hit (The Cardinal: 20+34=54*2*2=216 damage) Ellaria (Mythril Mallet) vs. The Cardinal - SHIELD Critical Hit (Mixture - Ellaria: 6,3,4: Smile of the Gods created) >Sigil (Wood, Claws) vs. The Cardinal - Damage (Sigil: 50*2/2=50-2=48 Fire-elemental damage (KO!)) >Petaldan (Brine Blade) vs. The Cardinal - Miss (nothing happens) >Ezeran (Fire, Ancient Sapphamber Staff) vs. Crimson Crown Chemist Mob C - Great Spell Damage (Crimson Crown Chemist Mob C: 8*2=16+14+2=32*2*2=128 damage; Ezeran: -1 Ether) >Hunkan (Sharpened Fang Dagger) vs. Crimson Crown Chemist Mob C - Damage Hit (Crimson Crown Chemist Mob C: 8+8=16/2=8 damage + Bleeding -4) Goliath (Ebony Scorpion Spear) vs. Crimson Crown Chemist Mob C - Damage (Goliath: no damage, protected by Sentinel) >Kid (Crossbow) vs. The Cardinal - Special Damage (Firebrand Arc - All Heroes: Fire-elemental damage equal to level, ignoring Row and SP (All standing Heroes except Ellaria, Goliath, and Ezeran: KO!); The Cardinal: continuing to deal Fire-elemental damage) Free Hits: none Ellaria: +11 HP (Blessed) Crimson Crown Chemist Mob C: -8 HP (Bleeding) Etherium Shutdown - Sealed for one Round! Disaster! Ellaria manages another solid strike on The Cardinal, and Ezeran follows up with a scorching flame that incinerates one of the chemists and drives another into Hunkan's dagger, but then the party falters; Sigil falls first to The Cardinal's forgotten flames, as Kid triggers another Firebrand Arc that finishes off him and Hunkan, and Petaldan, too. Most of the enemies are down, but so are most of the Heroes. Two Crimson Crown members still stand against just three Heroes. THE BATTLE CONTINUES!! Weather: Hot (fire-elemental attacks are doubled and ice-elemental attacks are halved). Note: A ring of fire surrounds the party. Switching rows will deal the Burned-5 effect. The party cannot flee. Note: The Mob counts as one target but is made up of individual members. As each member of the Mob is killed its stats lower, also until the Standing Party #>Mob # the Mob always gets a free hit. Enemies: The Cardinal Level 50 Humanoid *Attacks deal Sealed* *Immune to negative effects* *Deals fire-elemental damage (1 Round)* Health: 203/1000 Special I: Etherium Reap - Halves the target's health and deals the Blind and Sealed-effects. 9. OOC: Karie's out of Ether. Also, running the numbers, I'm not sure we can handle the Free Hits unless Siercon throws his Cataclysm Bomb as well, that will deal 3600 damage total and allow my attack to finish him off even without poison. Also, Endgame, are the claws Stunned despite their immunity by last Round's Special? "Then stop," Arthur replies Diplomatically. "You have had that power since the beginning. You've simply refused to use it." <He can't. This is his destiny. From the moment he made his ill-advised deal, I have been the price he was destined to pay. He could not stop himself any more than I could stop being a Dragon.> "...that's not how destiny works, Miirym." <If you say so,> she replies dismissively. Arthur frowns at the rebellious reptile. "We're going to have to have a serious talk once we get home." "...If we get home," he amends with a mutter, a wary eye on the psychopathic elf and her shield-sundering sword. "Whatever your 'purpose' is, Jinnipher, it had better not involve Miirym, got it? Touch her, and it will be your life, Veterans and spells be damned. However...mistaken she might be, she's still my little girl, and I will protect her." Miirym snorts again, not sure whether to be irritated or bemused by her guardian. She deliberately looks away from Jinnipher as she addresses the elf. <You were given a blade. I was given my life. Somehow I doubt those claims are even.> Will you please stop making things worse?? Rather than voicing the argument--time enough for that at home--Arthur devotes his energy to the solemn strike he is about to launch.

Hunkan and Goliath land solid hits on their opponents, but Kid fumbles, allowing the Cardinal to unleash a wide swath of alchemist's fire that even Petaldan cannot protect against. The Knight's protection remains, but if The Cardinal strikes again, the party would come to serious harm. Two Crimson Crown targets still stand against the weakened party. THE BATTLE CONTINUES!! 11. Guest QM Note: No, you can attack this Round. Sorry for the delays, everyone, have been dealing with issues at home. I'll try to get a round run this afternoon; again, so sorry for the delay.
  12. "Yes, and I'm sure that when your grandfather goes rogue and tries to conquer the Free Islands, when you face the shame of your flesh and blood becoming a blight upon the world but despite the shame and guilt you fight on against him anyway, when you face possibly the most emotionally fraught conversation you've ever had in your life stripped of the only family you've ever known with only a stranger to back you up...when all that happens, I'm sure you'll be perfectly fine with everyone else trampling all over your chance at absolution." Miirym raises a wing to stop Arthur. <I'll take it into consideration. But it has to be at my hand.> "...Screw you, you arrogant--" Arthur stops himself before his anger gets the better of him. "She's a person, you soulless psychopath! And she's apparently a damn sight better at it than you are, from what I've seen tonight." Miirym rolls her eyes. <Father, please.> Miirym stares coolly at Jinnipher. <If this is about what my blood father did, I'm sorry, but you've had your vengeance. He's dead. You won. You don't have the inherent right to kill his entire family just because of what he did. Right of vengeance only carries so far. I, on the other hand...> <This is my blood. It's my responsibility to repair the damage he's caused...or in some cases, to return it.> "...wait, that sounds like you're already planning to--" <My uncle was the Hunter, my blood father the Conqueror, my grandfather the Judge. I am the Guardian. My duty is to protect the world. No matter the cost.> "Miirym--" Miirym turns slightly, making sure everyone is paying attention. <Dragons are not like other beings. We are not born blind and helpless babes like the mortal races. From the time we emerge from our shells, we have been the recipients of strength, emotions, whispers upon the Spirit Pools, and it is those strengths that first shape our path. When I hatched, I knew what I was meant to be. And when I spoke with my grandfather, I realized what this moment was--a fixed moment in time, unaffected by vision, prophecy, or any other means that might otherwise change it. The universe allowed me life, so that I might cleanse my blood of our sins, closing the era of my forebears so a new one may flourish without them.> "Miirym...you're not making sense. If you kill him, it won't...that's not the right reason to do it." Miirym snorts in exasperation. <What happened to 'I'm backing her up in this'?> "..." <Fine. I already promised consideration, but I will accede to Karie's order as party leader. But it will be me that ends this, no matter the decision made. On that, I will not be swayed. I do have the right to that much.> OOC: Arthur shouldn't have taken damage--Mail of the Renegade Commander. Arthur pauses in consideration, when he sees his opening. "Get Arx up--I can guarantee this battle ends, right now." He carefully switches his weapons, double-checking his plan--but it is solid. "If Karie plays a Lucky Chant, then Thormanil or Karie uses a Jinxy Juice on the Left Wing, I can take him down in one solid hit that's almost guaranteed to hit--the poison will finish him off. We just need someone to get Arx and Karie healed, and anyone else who'd be taking the Free Hits." "Oh...hadn't noticed you were out of Ether, Karie...okay, but still, even with just the Jinxy Juice this should work. Thormanil would need to go first and use the Jinxy Juice from the Back Row, then someone else can revive Arx, three other people who can handle the claws' hits would go next and heal people up, and then I'd take the wing, with Lind and Vindsval tanking the Wing and Stormpiercer Free Hits respectively and Miirym going between them to handle the tail." Arthur attacks the Left Wing from the Front Row with his Spider Leg Spear. Miirym does nothing in the Back Row.
  13. <I have known for plenty of time the truth of my parentage. Death itself did not stop my uncle and...Vorpalis...from seeking me out. It may have only been when I joined this mission that I learned of my grandfather's connection to them, but believe me when I say that I have had the right to his life long before you ever met him.> <You misunderstand my intentions. Stab him with your swords, vent upon him your venom, I do not care who renders him unable to fight. But after, when he lay defeated before us, and it is in our hands whether he lives or dies...that decision, and its execution, belong to me.> "I'm backing her up in that," Arthur says, finally getting involved. "It's her blood. Her decision. Whether or not I agree with what she decides."
  14. Guest QM Note: Wow, I really fouled up the Round, didn't I? Lemme fix my mistakes, and I'll give another day to re-strategize. EDIT: Previous round is fixed, now allowing 24 hours for action changes.
  15. Etherium Shutdown - no Sealing Ellaria tends to Petaldan, producing both gold and bombs in the process. Newly recovered, Petaldan leaps into the fray once more, a stalwart Sentinel of supernatural strength standing steadfastly against an accursed Crimson Crown Cardinal. There would be no harm to his friends next Round. One mage recovers his Ether while the other casts another standard spell against his oppressor. With Goliath down, Hunkan steps up his game, stabbing the Apostle in the gut and leaving him to bleed out while the Rogue pockets his Gold. Kid finishes out with a Tripleshot that almost finishes the Apostle, leaving the man's own heart to pump out the last of the poisoned blood from his veins. Now there would be neither harm nor reinforcements next Round. Two Crimson Crown targets now stand against the standing five Heroes and Sigil. THE BATTLE CONTINUES!! (Doomed) Ellaria: +11 HP (Blessed) Petaldan: -5 HP (Burning) Crimson Crown Apostle: -6 HP (poisoned) Etherium Shutdown - no Sealing Ellaria once again demonstrates her alchemically-induced might as she batters both The Cardinal and their Apostle while restoring the rest of the party to perfect health. The newly-revived Sigil scores a blow against the enemy chemists, as Ezeran follows up with a mighty gout of green flame, scorching the Elites to cinders and heavily damaging the other enemies...only to fizzle out just shy of what would have been a killing blow on the Apostle, as his Ether stores dry up entirely, his symbiont feeling parched and dry from the effort. Petaldan leaps forward through the flames for a surprise strike, but The Cardinal is prepared and strikes the Knight so strongly on the skull that the poor boy can no longer see. He bounces back through the flames, catching fire as the Cardinal scatters more Sealing dust over him. Hunkan, perhaps displeased by what had just happened to Petaldan, lunges forward with a strike of his own, and this time it lands true, though unfortunately for the Dwarf the Cardinal's pockets seem empty of easily-accessible coin. The remaining party members seem to move sluggishly, looking wide open for attack, but the blind Petaldan still somehow manages to leap up from his should-be-fatal injuries to defend his friends and allies, a true Hero to the end. However, he cannot save Goliath from his Doom, as the automaton collapses to the ground from the Apostle's earlier attacks. Three Crimson Crown targets now stand against the standing five Heroes and Sigil. 17. <...I knew it.> The pageantry, the trials, the games played in blood...all of it had been allowed. The destruction of Eubric had never been her grandfather's goal. The destruction of himself was. Then the vision takes her. <Grandmother...> The utterance was neither voluntary, nor hidden. Miirym valiantly tries to maintain her composed facade, but upon sighting the fallen form of Arx her mask slips, and the tears flow freely, her sobs sounding even over the raucous storm. The pain of the grandmother she would never know flowing freely through her, she turns to the rest of the party, eyes glowing brilliantly bright. <When the time comes, the final blow is mine,> she declares, the full weight of her lineage behind her. This was not the Miirym most of them had seen, but a creature of majesty and power on the cusp of coming into her own. As Immortalis grows weaker, she grows stronger, and it is with that strength that she begins her endeavors anew. As the weakened Arthur drinks down another Grand Potion, Miirym focuses her energies once again to make Thormanil Lucky.
  18. "Hm?" Arthur looks up to see Karie attacking the tail. "Karie, no! You have to put me first, or you'll be done for! Grah, give me a moment..." Miirym tries to make Gabriel Lucky from the Back Row, instead of attacking. Suggestions: Arthur (Free Hit from Immortalis) Karie (Scroll of Frailty & attack Left Claw; Free Hit from Right Claw) Thormanil (lands Jump Hit; Free Hit from Right Wing) Lind (Free Hit from Tail) Vindsval (Free Hit from Stormpiercer) all other Heroes (no Free Hits) "IF you're going to attack, Karie, go for the Left Claw so that if you falter, the rest of us don't fall. If we use my Battle Order, everything will work out just fine." "Everyone else, if you're going to attack this Round instead of healing, take the Left Wing." <And don't die.> "...right. That too."
  19. Guest QM Note: I mistakenly had Crimson Crown Elite Acolyte C deliver its Free Hit against Petaldan instead of Ellaria last Round; I have rectified the error. I also forgot to apply Goliath's Encouragement to his damage, this has also been fixed. For the sake of expediency I'll assume Goliath repeats. Round 3 of the Crimson Crown Crackdown: Ellaria (Mythril Mallet) vs. The Cardinal - Damage Chrysopoeia (Ellaria: +1 Gold Bar) Ellaria (Mythril Mallet) vs. Crimson Crown Apostle - Critical Hit Damage (Crimson Crown Apostle: 20*2=40+34=74*2*2=296 damage) >Petaldan (Brine Blade) vs. The Cardinal - SHIELD (Sentinel - Party protected from physical damage next Round) >Ezeran uses Remedy - (Ezeran: negative effects removed) >Hunkan (Sharpened Fang Dagger) vs. Crimson Crown Elite Acolyte C - Hide Damage (Hunkan: Hides) Goliath (Ebony Scorpion Spear) vs. Crimson Crown Apostle - Extra Critical Hit (Crimson Crown Apostle: 5*3=15+2=17*2=34 damage + Poisoned 3) >Kid (Crossbow) vs. Crimson Crown Elite Acolyte B - Aim->Hit (Crimson Crown Elite Acolyte B: 3+6=9 damage) Free Hits: Crimson Crown Elite Acolyte C vs. Ellaria: no damage (Invisible) Ellaria: +11 HP (Blessed) Crimson Crown Apostle: -6 HP (poisoned) Crimson Crown Elite Acolyte B: -4 HP (Bleeding) Etherium Shutdown - no Sealing Followers of the Order - Chemist Mob summoned Ellaria wades in to battle once more, but this time her strikes are not fatal; she still manages to snag another Gold Bar off of the Crimson Crown, however. Brave Petaldan, eager to aid his allies, suddenly steps forward, shield raised in a nigh-impenetrable Sentinel stance. Ezeran takes a reprieve to remedy himself, the sickly gray coloration fading from his symbiote's complexion. Hunkan hides as his opponent goes for another headshot, while Kid and his opponent's back-and-forth results in another hit for the Ranger. Goliath ticks ever closer to Doom as he tears into the Apostle with a mighty blow. The battle is going poorly for the Crimson Crown, but the Apostle draws back, sprinkling some kind of neutralizing dust upon the flames behind him. The alchemical fire fizzles and momentarily dies, allowing a small mob of chemists access before leaping up once more. Newly reinforced, the Crimson Crown stands strong against the Heroes. Five Crimson Crown targets now stand against the remaining six Heroes. THE BATTLE CONTINUES!! Weather: Hot (fire-elemental attacks are doubled and ice-elemental attacks are halved). 20. Guest QM Note: Can I get an action for Goliath? Guest QM Note: Sigil was Sealed when the spirit's turn came up, so I presumed it would be unable to attack.
  21. I...think I handled a Sealed Evoker correctly? It's only 30 extra damage if I'm wrong, since Sigil ended up KO'd anyway, but de-summoning seemed like the most logical result of Sealing an Evoker.
  22. <Yes, I was planning to take the hit, that is why I am going for the claw that would put me near the end of the Battle Order. If you're planning to take the tail, Jinnipher, then my efforts are better served elsewhere.>
  23. Guest QM Note: Sorry for the delay! I'll try and get these rolling out a bit quicker starting tomorrow. Kid, Hunkan, and Goliath all score some minor hits, but Ezeran inadvertently provokes a series of Sealing shots from one of the surviving Acolytes. With the Wood Spirit vanished as quickly as it had come, Sigil lunges towards the enemies, only to be downed in a single hit. Four Crimson Crown members stand against the six still-standing Heroes. 24. October?! I gotta have more downtime than that... I'm still working behind the scenes on my duo of Quests, I'm just still waiting to see the fallout from a few ongoing excursions. Soon as those drop, I'll likely set them in motion.
  25. OOC: The wing should have 10 more Bleeding from my attacks. "All right, Karie, we can drop the March for a couple of Rounds, though if you could Frail the wing before Thormy lands it'd do wonders for us all." Arthur narrows his eyes. "Actually...I can't quite read his attacks, but I'm getting flashbacks to that giant robot I fought beneath Goland. I bet that once Thormy lands, we'll be seeing a changeup in tactics--now might be a good time to heal up a bit. Gabriel, if you could focus on your lethality for a bit, I'd like to get the Sealed renewed on the wing Thormanil's going after and we may need you to reset its immunity for that to happen. I'll tank his main hit--" <I can take a hit from his tail, if need be, even if he gets me with his claw.> "...all right, if you're sure." Arthur spares Miirym a glance of concern, but does not question her further. "Vindsval can handle a hit from the Stormpiercer, leaving only the other wing and claw to deal with. That should leave plenty of actions free for healing and buffing. Arthur drinks a Grand Potion from the Back Row, while Miirym uses her Breath on the Right Claw from the Back Row.
