Heroica RPG - Quest #77: Your Elves are Better than Ours
Flipz replied to Brickdoctor's topic in The Heroica Archive
Leaning back into the shop where Ellaria and Alexander still stood, Arthur commented, "Lady Ellaria, Lord Boomingham, I'd suggest picking up a few Tonics here unless you have major purchasing plans back in Eubric. I'm...not entirely certain I'll be keeping to the magical path, else I'd buy some myself, but for a healer...well, this is probably the best Gold-to-Ether ratio you're going to find, period." Arthur winks, then resumes walking, increasing his pace so as to keep up with Nerwen. He was sure the rest of the party could catch up to them when they'd finished their purchases. -
I can see where you're coming from, but at the same time I feel it's a slippery slope. There's a definite difference between playing one's own devil's advocate and having a separate personality maintaining a conversation with oneself, and Baradoc seems to be leaning heavily towards the latter. But this is a discussion for the Theatre, not this topic, anyway.

Eh. Another split personality story. No offense, but...not impressed. My current theory on why these types of characters are so common among characters here: people want to play darker characters, but subconsciously don't want to admit they'd like to play "bad" people and can do it well, so they construct the split personality as a layer of separation (in addition to the partial layer ostensibly provided by player-character separation, but I think we've all noticed the giant gaping holes that appear in that layer more often than we'd like to admit). Also, what I wouldn't give for a nice long chat with Dyric, Skrall, and Karie right about now...

"I'll take a Hurricane, thanks." Arthur waits for the others and then goes with them to the locked warehouse Ellaria had visited earlier. -

"It's the magicks of Heroica. Though they protect us from a myriad of dangers and allow the Veterans to keep a close eye on us, they are of different schools and were never meant to interact. This leads to a myriad of symptoms, notably the distortion of the passage of time. De'kra has noticed it as well, particularly during periods of upheaval and Chaos. Have you ever noticed that whole seasons pass by in a matter of days? It's been nearly two years since I joined Heroica, but it's seemed to be a mere three or four months by my perception. It was not so when I was not Heroican--and it still seems not for those we encounter, in the times in between when we encounter them. Time treats us differently, it seems, and rather poorly at that. For though I've been a Hero for two years, I feel I've aged far more than that in that time. Perhaps that is our curse, the price for the blessings of Hero-hood: our days pass slowly, but our lives fly past. Mortals were not meant to live such overfull lives in such a short span. I have no doubt that those of us who can die will die far younger than non-Heroican counterparts of our respective species." Arthur surveys his companions on this Quest, save for the absent Throlar. "'Tis a shame--that you, some of the best and brightest in our world, face such a cruel fate. I...may not have shown it well, but I am truly honored to have served with each of you. My own performance pales in comparison to the standards the rest of you have set, both for this organization and for people of virtue everywhere." -
I approve of this message. Also, the Staff of Burninating needs to become a thing. Zeph?
-
I would hope only Demons--it would actually give Dark-types a reason for existence besides "weak to Light but not undead or demonic".
-
That's the one that's generally used, I think, just like the Burning effect that people tend to use is Zeph's of 3 damage.

"Indeed. It has been a long few days, but I see not a need to spend longer--it is merely a brief browsing through wares before a swift journey home." -

"Thank you, Lady Dala. I think you'll find R'kilf to be a much safer place now, thanks to the efforts of my allies and I. The quiet life will be much easier to come by nowadays, I think. Good luck, Lady Dala." Arthur next visits the Bank of R'kilf. -

So of course because the series could technically be considered a reboot they milk the pun for all it's worth. Is anyone else reminded of Nexus Naomi (and Nexus Tower in general with regards to the architecture) when they see Pixel?- 4,591 replies

All right, Pie, which Quest do I sign on to get that Maurader class?

"Nonetheless, Master Saunterton, I would suggest that your people arrange a future diplomatic envoy to meet with the Elves and Men of R'klif to discuss true diplomatic relations. And, if I were you, I would emphasize to your people the need to reinforce the fortifications of your own lands, should the Dread Pirate attempt to raid you. Just some friendly advice." His piece said, Arthur follows Nerwen to the shops, specifically entering the Magic Shop. "Lady Dala? I've been thinking about that Magic Key you showed me yesterday, and I'm thinking I'd be most happy to buy it from you." -

Before Boomingham's stab... "Six words, Warlord...six." Arthur wanders over to Saunterton and whispers diplomatically in the man's ear. "Don't you think he looks tired?" Arthur is taken aback, the suddenness of Boomingham's action surprising him. "So be it," he says coldly. He turns back to Saunterton, his somber tone adding to the use of his diplomatic skills. "This probably isn't the best time, but I should warn you that Indiacca is still on the loose. I don't think he'll be back for a while, but he WILL return. You should be prepared, just in case--and I think an alliance between the Mopags and your neighbors here would do well for both villages. What transpired here today was a tragedy, but perhaps it can be worked to achieve good in the end." -
THANK YOU, finally someone gets it! I was beginning to think no one here had actually watched Star Wars... Also, Zeph, you non-Whovian meanie, you cut me off before I could finish my Doctor Who quote.

What, Arthur's rambling doesn't make him a mindless philosopher?

Engineer. Lion Knights, Lord Knyghton.

That much seems fair.

Battles in Heroica go on way too long these days.

In a diplomatic tone full of menace, Arthur picks up his speech from where he'd left off. "Now, Warlord. You and your men will leave this city--leave and never return. And don't challenge me, Kaherdin, because I'm a dangerous and unpredictable person. I could end your authority entirely with a single word. No, sorry--not a single word. Six words. Just six. I'm that sort of a man." OOC: Chrome, none of that loot particularly interests me--I'm quite happy with just gold. Also, I'd like to visit the marketplace in this city (particularly the Magic Shop) at least once more before we finish. OOC: Also, I believe the five hoplites should have dropped 25 Gold apiece, so that's 125 Gold for us. I'll go through the battle and look for SHIELDs from Calaryl, Shawe, and Ahvialyn now. -

From the same Quest Endgame mentioned, I'd like to point out a really clever solution he had for a similar in-game problem: he had characters who were only KO'd (i.e. not actually killed) raised as "shades" of those characters, allowing the benefits of the undead army without the drawbacks of having important characters killed off.
