I won a Scroll of Confusion (that I already had) in the first lottery. Thankfully, I was able to turn it into a new Scroll by trading with De'kra's prize, but I've gotten nothing from the Lottery since then. I haven't really paid too much to the Lottery after the first one, actually. Grogmas has always been much kinder to me, and has offered out consistently better loot (though this year's lottery was spot-on in terms of prizes, if not quite so much in terms of quantity). *does quick search* Ha, I wasn't wrong! The odds for the lottery have gone down over time--the amount of entries has remained relatively stable, but there were 20 prizes in the first lottery and only 15 for each subsequent one. It's really interesting to see the changes in what's been considered "rare" over the years. We seem to have gotten a bit greedy, it seems.

Your rules logic in 102 (and elsewhere in general). You put a lot of thought and effort into the logic of the battles you fight in, I can only imagine how much more would go into what you'd host.

Heroica RPG - Quest #104: Ace Assassin: Dual Dragoons

QM Note: I was going to go back and insert these excellent image suggestions into the previous posts, but after losing one of the rounds of the first battle to an editor error, it's just not worth the risk. Thanks for your lovely suggestions, though! -
Can anyone get me a cached version of the last post of the first battle of 104? I went back to add the lovely image Siercon provided for the Flameproof Armor and the editor basically ate the post.
-
Chromeknight, I look forward to the day you decide to start QM-ing.
-
The other thing to consider is exactly what weapon you're applying the upgrade to. You want to make sure it's something you'll want to use consistently for a long time, otherwise it's a waste.

"No, not all the Shadeaux are bad. I hear one of their drivers is an honest, if misguided, man. But Noctus Shadeaux and the Shawes who work for him? Hell yes. He's not paying to bring them to justice, he's paying to keep his name clean and that's it. Let's count off a few of their sins, shall we? Tricked a group of Heroes they hired into starting a war so they could sell weapons to both sides, trafficked in souls, paid the Blood Paws to rob a warehouse and discredit the Hinckwells, and now they're deciding to train Dragoons to be their muscle. And that's not counting the incidents where they didn't get Heroes involved. I'm not saying their rivals the Hinckwells are any better, either--you wouldn't believe what they've pulled, not to mention roped Heroes into. The Houses are corrupt, and if Heroica doesn't stop bowing and curtseying for their favor, the situation in Eubric is only going to get worse." Diana shoots a look to Actaeon, measuring her words carefully. "The people in power have a responsibility to protect and support the powerless, not to trample all over them. I hate the Houses for what they've done, and anyone else who follows their selfish example." "I thought we were. Guess we're not. Dad always said that Heroes have real good in them, we just had to coax them out from under the Houses' heel. I'm not sure I can believe that anymore." Almost on cue, the skies over the mountain pass darken, and the wagon comes to a stop. Mallelio thanks the driver, and starts heading down the pass, only for Diana to push past him and march ahead. Denerii alights and follows the rest of the party, stopping with the rest as they spot Diana waiting at the entrance to an abnormally dreary wood. "We're here." Diana drinks a Mead, Smelling Salts, and Nostrum. "There's no telling what's in there besides the Dragoons. I'm not going in unprepared this time." -
If you win something, the "useful thing" will most likely be offers of lots and lots of Gold to buy the thing you won.

"Hard to believe I'm saying this, but Actaeon's right. Exactly. What about you, Warlen, Quarion, Germ? You still want to let Shadeaux let them get away with murder?" -
My action has been in for some time. Speaking of waiting, though, I do need those forest pics for 104.

I like both of these ideas. Note that for Protected, the template lists four different icons to differentiate between the levels/durations of protection (the Main Page is protected indefinitely because there's no need for non-admins to change it, while another page might be temporarily locked for other reasons). Perhaps either four different shields or one shield recolored four times for the various levels? In other news, I feel like the impression that Eubric has laws and/or that the Town Watch is some sort of legitimate governmental authority is probably the most common mistake players make regarding game lore. So of course it falls to Diana to disavow them of that notion.

"What trial? What laws? That's just it--we are the law out here. The Town Watch only deals with crimes within Eubric and against the Houses, and they're damned incompetent to boot--they waste all their chasing the Wolfgang instead of the real criminals. And even then, with them it's 'hanged' or 'locked up for a bit and then hanged'--might as well kill them ourselves if we're going to do that, the Watch doesn't deserve the satisfaction. Apart from the Watch--nothing. They don't call the Free Islands 'free' for nothing. If we turn 'em over to Noctus Shadeaux like he wanted, I doubt he'll do anything--maybe give 'em a stern talking-to before he sets them back on the streets. These people killed people, destroyed a town, corrupted a pair of Dragons, and are threatening one of the biggest population centers on the planet--over a stupid feud. I'll be damned if I'm going to let them get away with it." -

"I'll have my men prepare a wagon for you. Good luck, Heroes." The party clambers aboard the horse-drawn cart; it is a tight fit for seven people, but not uncomfortably so. With Denerii scouting ahead and Mallelio guiding the driver, the party is ferried southwest across the plains. Diana, sitting at the back of the cart, stares intently at the ruined city as it recedes into the distance. After a few hours, she finally turns to the rest of the party. "Still think these monsters should be brought in alive?" she asks accusingly. -
The Heroica RPG has undergone a fairly major overhaul--at least in terms of available templates and navigation and the main page. I'm still trying to get a template guide together, but rest assured a lot has been added. I do need some help, however. I'm looking for Heroica-themed icons for use in various notifications--here's a list of the templates I know need icons for certain, but any relevant icons you can think of are much appreciated: Thanks for your help, everyone!

Oh, dear, that's no good--now they're going to get lung cancer!

Emperor Phyllius gives Germ an odd look. "From what I could tell, the riders are ordinary humans. The Dragons they ride, however, have the elemental breath you describe." "Let us not forget that these Dragons are both intelligent and powerful beings. Even the young among Dragons deserve fear and respect." "Couldn't have put it better myself." -
Sandy, would you be opposed to me making a text-based copies of the various rules pages on the wiki? There have been plenty of times where I and others have needed to find answers to questions but been unable to thanks to the images not being searchable; additionally, having links from various key words (i.e. "Artifacts", "Weapon Power", etc.) would also make it easier to find answers to many of the frequently asked questions many players end up having.

Just a heads-up, I'm doing some behind-the-scenes updates to some of the base templates, grabbing updated versions from the Templates Wiki, so things may break. I'm also making some changes to the wiki CSS, so you may have to refresh the page to see the changes. EDIT: All right, CSS is updated, and there are a few new templates added. This should make a lot of the background work I'm doing much easier now.

You know, I really want to see a Quest where the Order Imperial and the Crimson Crown meet up with each other.

"They headed south, best I can tell. Denerii might be able to tell you more, the Rito know the winds better than we do." "The winds have not shifted from our predictions. They will enter the Lost Forest, and if unckecked will fly on to Charis..." "...you cannot allow that to happen, Heroes. Charis is home to an enormous population--if you don't stop them, they will die." Victor again surveys the ruins of Domus. "You know, it's funny. I might have stopped them if it was just the red rider, or at least grabbed his attention. It wasn't 'til the purple one urged his dragon to start shooting lightning all over the place that the city caught fire." The Emperor looks to the party in warning. "Make no mistake--the purple rider and his dragon are the most dangerous." "Let us hurry! We have a second chance to mend our errors. We must not waste it!" Will the party say anything else to the Emperor before they leave? -
