Yes, one exhibitor took these helmets with him and they found a nice place under the mosaic.

Well, my mosaic is directly inspired by this picture : I removed the backgound mountain and changed the position of the words. For me, "There and Back again" describes the whole story .

For the Fana'briques 2013 show, I have designed a 294 x 96 mosaic based on the Hobbit movie : It uses 3 colours (black, dark grey and light grey) on white 48x48 baseplates. The building has been done in one day helped by a couple of friends (Sandra and Sébastien B.), my son Alexandre and my wife Clara : SCASD. Enjoy.

A danish church designed by a danish architecte built with danish bricks The building For the last TechLUG contest, it was required to walk into the steps of Jorn Utzon by creating a building designed by this worldwide known Architecte for his Sydney Opera House. Scanning his creation, I found that this church is particularly interesting. Indeed, when we consider the outstanding design of Sydney's Opera roof made with fractions of spheres, it is surprising that the same architecte designed also this church looking much more like an industrial building. However, when one examines the interior of the church with its nicely curved ceiling, the Utzon touch becomes an evidence. For me, the ceiling profil looks like a see wave but clouds were the source of inspiration of J. Utzon (in a church, are we not near the sky ?). The link with Sydney's Opera and its roof cut into spheres becomes more clear when one consider this drawing Where one sees that the profil find its origin into many arcs of circle like the Opera'roof and the ceiling of its main hall Inside the church, the light is particularly impressive because it is canalized by the curved white ceiling Finally, an aerial picture This , mixing real and virtual pictures, gives you a nice 3D description of the building .If you want to see more about the church, I suggest you this pdf file and this one who analyzing the building in terms of additive architecture. Finally, this diaporama allows to do a virtual complete visit of the church. The goal of the construction I think that you have understood that I want to include the interior ceiling into my MOC. This is clearly a building for which the interior is essential to get its architectural concept. It is also well suited for such of construction because the ceiling is a single profil and the roof is made of straight plates : the whole ceiling/roof section being completed by the two very similar facades. The idea is then to aloow to access inside the building by removing the rwo facades : the ceiling/roof section has then to be self standing without having to be supported by the facades. This represents the challenge of the MOC. The version in lego bricks I have started bu building the facades checking that the roof remains hidden by them, then I have built the base and finally the ceiling/roof section. The facades with their glass roof have fixed the scale : indeed, for this roof, trans clear cheese slopes are the most sguited fixing the thickness of the facades to 2 studs. To built the walls of the facades, I have used a few hundred of 1x2 white plates with 1x2 grey bricks on top allowing to render their particular shape. For the ceiling, I have mainly used arches, half-cylinder or various curved parts : for this, I had to build cylinder facing cylinder using hinges with 2 and 3 fingers. The roof is made with tiles fixed onto plates assembled to the ceiling using 2x1 hinge bricks or by the couple Le toit est constitué de pans réalisés à l'aide de tiles liés par des plaques fixés au montage par des briques plate with handle/plate with vertical clip. The virtual MOC First, a virtual MOC has been made and used to do this stop motion video showing the constructions steps . The ceiling profil and the roof tof the virtual MOC The real MOC The base : It includes some elements recalling that the building is a church like an altar, a baptistry and wide seats. I have also included some element specific to this church like the corridor behide the seats which is a white grid inside the church and a brown grid outside which are represented by 1x2 vertical grid tiles and like the elevated space behind the altar delimited by white fences. Without the facades : The MOC is finally very stable and stands easily without the facades. The two facades : They include corridors in there lower section (made with panels two bricks high) to recall that they are mainly hollow and one includes the organ hidden by the brown panels With the backward facade : The complete church viewed from outside : Jorn Utzon presenting his building : Thanks for having read this long presentation and I hope you will enjoy this MOC.

It's just the 9493 model at a larger scale (human scale maybe).

Why the reduction in usability of Macaroni bricks?
DanSto replied to Hrw-Amen's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Recently, I designed a castle ruin with two towers for which I used these bricks : Old design New design With the new design bricks, I had to include a 4x4 round plate on top to get the tower stable but the final aspect is completely different because the new version gives a too smooth tower. Definitively, I don't like the new mold. -
Sorry for this, I did not have the reflex to ask a staff member .

Ten days ago, I started to present you my WIP of this playset but finally, I have decided to show it as it is now because it will certainly take some time before it will be modified and because it is very playable. But because, the WIP topic is recent, I will link to part of the WIP presentation and only show you news features which were not presented into the WIP. The aim of this topic is essentially to show you the potential of the playset rather than trying to show all possible scene which can be played with (it would be definitively too long). Finally, this MOC has been done for participating to the SeTechnic Star Wars contest. The playset, consisting of 4 modules, aims to include all major places seen into movie V. More pictures can be found into the WIP topic. Yoda's Hut (32x32 module back) Yoda's hut look like this : The tree, the top and the entrance of the Hut can be removed in order to access easily to the inside. The Hut has 3 sections : - the entrance and main section including a kitchen (where Yoda is preparing his dinner) - the bedroom, - the storeroom. At the left part is Yoda's garden with a delicious Lahdia flower and at right is a small swamp. A little smoke come out of the hut : Yoda is preparing his dinner Is Hut has been very well structured by Yoda : The underside of the ceiling shows the transition from technological parts to purely wood. I let you imagine Yoda's live with meditation periods, walking during hours into the forest, preparing his lunches, resting into his bedroom and, more recently, with long discussions with Luke. The DarkSide Cave (64x32 module at left) Most of the module has been presented into this section of the WIP topic A short stop motion movie using this module. The forest clearing (64x32 module back) Most of the module has been presented into this section of the WIP topic. Another short stop motion movie using this module. The swamp (module 64x64) This is the largest module with its 64x64 size. In fact, everything started with the idea of a MOC of the crashed X-wing into the swamp and, instead of having to buil a fraction of the starfighter and toput it into a small swamp, I have decided to keep the X-wing intact and to build a large swamp. This module done, I decided to build the 3 other modules and to do a playset. This module has two levels separated by 15 bricks : the high level for the ground and the lower for the swamp. The swamp is black and covered by dark green leaves; it has a fallen tree inside which explains why the X-wing did not completely sunk during the crash. it is also on that tree where R2-D2 will drive after is fall into the swamp before being kept by the beast leaving into the swamp. Finally, this tree will break under the weight of the X-wing which will then completely sunk into the swamp. When the sun shines on Dagobah, the swamp is not so dark as usually presented : The crashed X-wing into the swamp (the water "surface" has been removed) standing over the tree : The dragon snake catching R2-D2 : The swamp is deep enough so that the X-wing can completely sunk by removing the tree : and be covered by the water "surface" : The rescued X-wing Most of the module has been presented into this section of the WIP topic . The characters and the accessories Most of the module has been presented into this section of the WIP topic The rescue of the X-wing One of my favourite scene is when Yoda is recueing the sunken X-wing with Luke looking at like a child becoming back a forgotten toy: and in short stop-motion movie. Final word Yoda says you goodbye into this small stop motion movie. It is to you to play now !

The swamp module. General view of the 64x64 swamp module with a sunken tree (the water surface has been removed). X-wing partially sunken supported by the tree (the water surface has been removed). Another view of the Dragon Snake taking R2-D2 (the X-wing and the water surface have been removed). Completely sunken X-wing when the tree does no more support its weight (without the water surface). With the water surface

The sunken X-wing, the characters and some accessories. The sunken X-wing is based on the one of the 9493 set (only the wings and the back part have been conserved) and is "dirty" after having been removed from the swamp. A godd washing is required before using it again. For simulating the levitation by Yoda over the swamp and the ground of the frorest clearance, it is supported by 3 plants Larger and more pictures into this Flickr album. A playset has to include all essential characters : - Luke as pilot and as padawan, - Yoda as master jedi (two versions), - Dark Vador (with Luke's head), - R2-D2, - the Dragon Snake and accessories like rocks and luggages. Luke training the levitation of rocks with Yoda and R2-D2 on the Forest Clearance module. Luke, Yoda and Dark Vador for the Dark Side Cave Module. Another view of Luke training with Yoda on his back for the clearance module. Luke as pilot with R2-D2 (camera deployed) for the swamp module. Dragon snake living into the swamp module. Are Star Wars MOC Builders becoming a dying breed?
DanSto replied to HJR-Holland's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Interestingly, the presently frontpaged MOC is a Star Wars MOC "Luke and Yoda on Dagobah" by Bayou . Question : which Star Wars MOC was previously frontpaged ? Answer : surprise , it is my "Tribute to R2-D2" at the 21-th november (so long). The real interesting point is that both MOCs have been done for a SeTechnic Star Wars contest. It is clearly a good point for this forum but is this just a coincidence or not ? From the beginning, these two MOCs are planned to be judged by a jury and the presentation on forums is particularly well prepared. -
The forest clearing module (64x32 back) This is the most simple module with a forest claering and a single tree. But, it is an essential module for the playset because it is where you can freely play : in the other modules, the way you play is more directed whereas here you can more or less do what you want and imagine your own scenario. Following the movie, at this place, Luke is training for becoming a master jedi, he runs with Yoda on his back, exercices levitation, ... It is also where the X-wing will be put after Yoda has moved it out of the swamp. To increase the depth of Dagobah's forest, the DarkSide module can be put behind this module. A general view of the 3 modules. Dagobah's forest is very particular because the trees are issue from the transformation of a spider into a tree. This is why there does not exist small trees, they are particularly thick and high and have leaves only at there highest section where there is the sun. This forest makes the landing particularly difficult (ask Luke) which explains why it has nearly never been explored. My playset includes 7 of such huge trees in order to try to represent the gigantism of the forest. Finally, in the same order of idea, I have done a small stop motion movie showing the vanishing of the fog, when the sun moves up and warms the forest clearing, by removing the green leaves suggesting the fog : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9XhTyqwA6w

Hello, The most simple way is to get to the rebrickable website where you can get the inventory and the building instructions : http://rebrickable.com/mocs/DanSto/r2-d2-mid-size http://rebrickable.com/mocs/DanSto/stand-for-r2-d2-mid-size http://rebrickable.com/mocs/DanSto/accessories-for-the-mid-size-r2-d2 Good building, Dan

After Yoda'Hut, I show you the DarkSide module : My source of inspiration was this well known image taken from a video game : The DarkSide cave comes from the evil Aura of a Sith who has been defeated on Dagobah : if you go into this cave, you will be confronted to your own Dark side counterpart. Luke's dark side counterpart appears to be Dark Vador. To access to the cave, the trees and the top of the cave can be removed : Luke start his fight with "Dark Vador" He kills "Dark Vador" but this correspond to a failure into his training. All pictures can be seen into this Flickr album. In order to give an idea of the fog, I have done a very small stop motion movie when Yoda and Luke go to the Cave : from one picture to the next, the leaves are moved to give the illusion of a moving fog (it was stormy weather on Dagobah) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AUS9ILXOos

Are Star Wars MOC Builders becoming a dying breed?
DanSto replied to HJR-Holland's topic in LEGO Star Wars
As a recently born Star Wars MOC builder, I am surprised by this topic because I do not have this feeling. However, what I note is that there are more and more builders (not only Star Wars builders) that do not necessarily show their MOCs to the community. I agree with ACPin : there are a lot of remaining things to do, not necessarily in a "better" way that what has been done but in a different one. -
This is definitively an interesting possibility (you are not the only suggesting it). Well, I will have to open my Robie House box .

I am working on a playset on Dagobah aiming to include all major places seen into movie V. The whole playset consists of 4 modules : - a 32x32 Yoda's hut (back) with removable top tree (see below), - a 64x32 dark side cave (left) with removable top trees, - a 32x64 forest clearing (right) for the training of Luke, - a 64x64 swamp with the crashed X-wing and the Dragon Snake. The foggy surface of the swamp can be removed and replaced by another without the hole for the X-wing for displaying the swamp before the crash or when the X-wing has been removed by Yoda up to the forest clearing of the right module. A general view of the 96x96 playset with the crashed X-wing into the swamp, the regurgitated R2-D2 and the Dragon Snake into the swamp. A close view of the swamp with the crashed X-wing (MOD of 9493). Another view of the whole playset. A view showing the Dark Side cave. Larger picture can be found into my Flickr Album. The Yoda's Hut module is nearly completed : The tree, the top and the entrance of the Hut can be removed for playability. Close view of the Inside of the Hut with removed entrance showing the main room with the kitchen, the bedroom and the storeroom. More pictures in my Flickr Album. The other modules require some more work and will be shown when finished . At this level of the WIP, I have one question concerning the use of green leaves for suggesting the fog on Dagobah floating on the swamp and on the ground. I have shown this playset to some people who did understand it as everything being nearly covered by plants and do not recognize the fog. For example, for the swamp, I do not represent the water but the green fog coming from the vapor of the swamp. Similarly, for the Dark Side cave and the forest clearing modules, the leaves are fixed on the floor by a neon green 1x1 round plates and are then floating on the floor (it is the same for the small swamp near Yoda' Hut). So, what is your feeling about this point ?

TRAIN TECH Help, General Questions & Talk to the Staff
DanSto replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Well, it is hard to give you an answer : first try to run the motor without weight charge (remove the loco from the rails and make the motor run). I am not really experienced into the 9V RC motors but usually, for 9V motors, the problem comes from overheating due to a damaged motor. Without weight charge (no load) the motor become less rapidly overheated and should run more than 5 seconds and, if you run it at low speed, it should run a long time. If it stops when you increase the speed without weigth charge, then I think it is definitively damaged and you will need to change it.- 578 replies

Something like this one http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=76263entry1438621 done at the 2:3 scale ?

There is no more the need to request building instructions because they can directly be dowloaded from the Rebrickable website : R2-D2, its accessories and the stand. Good luck to all of you who will try to build it ad let me know if you did it.
