I spent some days doing an alternative build of the Sagrada Familia in microscale, using Pau Padros' version as a base, and taking some of the best elements from other microscale builds on ReBrickAble. This version is naturally heavily inspired by Pau Padros' version, so I will not provide any additional details unless agreed with Pau. My version has around 1200 bricks, all available on Pick a Brick. Also, I haven't build it with instructions, because Pau has such intricate details in his instructions as well. I did a number of changes, including: Added a bit more color, while still keeping it tasteful and not overdoing it. Changed the foliage a little bit. Modified the Metro entrance to actually be underground. Modified all the facades to include more details. Added extra "roundness" to the two large towers. Added "claw" type plates instead of 45 degree roof tiles on the main building roof sections. The base of my version is 1 plate thicker because of the modifications underneath.

I'm getting very inspired by your build, and getting lots of ideas. Here is an idea for an improved Metro entrance (the colors are all wrong of course, but the basic principle should work). I get the impression from photos that the Metro entrance is in fact closer to the corner, like in my version below:

But please be aware that there are some tension around this area, also present in your build. I'll try and build your version in Bricklink Studio at some point.

I love this I think you nailed the facades - the only small change I would do is make the tilted roof on the passion facade 1 knob wide instead of 2. I'm very inclined to buy the pieces and build this microscale while waiting for the full set.

I'm making good progress on the next parts already, and I hope to be able to make some more renders that will show the building style of the towers within a week or two. 👍 As part of the WIP nature of this build, here are some more sketches for the vertical columns - both the "main support" columns that will define the overall shape, and the "in-between" pillars that will have additional decoration (such as windows etc.). As the tower narrows in, the "in-between" pillars will transition into wedges, and only the "main" columns will continue to the top of the tower.

I initially discovered that the 8x8 round base plate (which is also the base for the towers in set 21065) actually has support for an almost perfect geometry for both a hexagonal and octagonal shape. The basic idea is that the Tower of Jesus Christ would have an octagonal shape with 8 vertical columns (a half knob extended from the plate), while the Tower of Virgin Mary would have a hexagonal shape with 6 vertical columns (aligned with the plate, so slightly thinner). For reference, the real towers both have 12 sides, but here the possible Lego compromise would be 8 and 6 sides respectively. So I drew up some sketches for the base plates, along with details for the top and bottom fixtures for the columns. After some testing and building, here are the result for the base plates of both towers, rendered from Bricklink Studio. I'm quite satisfied with the solution with the anchor blocks and pin-plates, which allows for the tiny space adjustments needed. The Tower of Jesus Christ base The Tower of Virgin Mary base Next up are the lower part of the columns - both the main columns (that will have the jagged look) and the in-between columns (which will feature a more sleek look and windows).

So first, a good image of the original set, with a clear view of the main towers that I'm planning to replace. And then, here are a couple of good reference images that really show the shape of the towers.

I was really anticipating the Sagrada Familia architecture model reveal, and while I think the set looks fantastic overall, I somewhat feel Lego took the easy way out on the two main towers. It almost feels to me as if they ran out of time, and did something really rushed and not very well thought-out for the Tower of Jesus Christ and the Tower of Virgin Mary. For reference, the Tower of Jesus Christ is the center tower with a three-dimensional cross on top, and the Tower of Virgin Mary is the north-western tower with a 12-pointed star on top. So because of this I’ve decided to give it a shot to do alternate designs of the Sagrada Familia’s two main towers, which can then be added to the model when it is released. Besides the standard towers looking plain simple and somewhat rushed, I have three specific points I would like to address with the redesign: The two main towers are not the same size, with the Tower of Jesus Christ being slightly larger (also in circumference) than the Tower of Virgin Mary The towers are not smooth, but instead should have a jagged look, with sawtooth-like decorations all the way up The current design is a poor representation of the round (actually 12-sided, but with a round feeling) architecture and repeated elements of the towers So this is my mission statement with the redesign - with the keywords being "jagged", "round" and "repeated". As for the process, I’m learning to use Bricklink Studio along the way, so I’m building the physical and digital models in parallel, along with renders, instructions and parts list. I will share my thoughts and progress in this thread, and feedback is of course always welcome. The plan is to release the builds on Rebrickable (probably one for each tower) when the Sagrada Familia set is released in November. Reserved for renders of the final build.

So this is completely new to me, and I'm totally at the "consideration stage" at this point. I've read up a bit on the current solutions, and it seems to me that a viable path, if you want a solid foundation for digital models, is an LDraw based solution, which should provide options for both building, rendering, instructions etc. I'm on Windows 11. So what I want to ask initially is: Is it a correct assumption that an LDraw based approach can be a somewhat beginner friendly experience, with a somewhat straightforward pipeline from building -> rendering -> parts list -> instructions ? And if yes, is there any recommended LDraw CAD software for Windows that is "more" beginner friendly than other? Finally, if you have exported a parts list from the LEGO "pick a brick" store, is there a tool that can help you identify if all parts are available in the LDraw software? Thanks in advance.

I think you should add them to the list of supported for now - as mentioned I tested the Dropbox ?raw=1 method in the beginners testing thread, and it works fine.

Thanks for the replies - I think I'll follow the advice, and make a WIP thread with space in the first post for final pictures - and then edit it into a final thread when the build is done. This seems to make sense.

Hello I'm just looking around for now, but I was wondering it it's possible to embed a public image from Google Drive or Dropbox? I have the following shared image on Google drive: (for testing purposes only) https://drive.google.com/file/d/18Ng0di6xUk7-OQSckNZl5bHmq4BySyW5/preview But I can't get it to work as an embedded image - am I missing something, or does it simply not work for Google Drive? When I click "Other Media" and "Insert image from URL" and copy the URL, the box turns red like it's not accepting the link. Is there another way? Thanks!

Hello - my name is Artur, from the Land of Lego. I've been building throughout my childhood and youth, but has pursued other interests after graduating and through adulthood. However, circumstance would have it that I have something planned for the "Special Themes" section during this summer - in the category of "Architecture". And for that I have a question: Would it be OK here to post a thread with WIP of a MOC - with partial pictures and sketches, and then post another thread of the finished MOC when it is done?
