    The marauder walks in the room a few hours later. "I realized I wasn't finished. There is one more thing. One giant Igniphant in the room that everyone is so afraid to address. Mister Ulric Wolfkin that is. I will not sit by and watch as this city gets destroyed by that 'former' crime boss. The man is a blight, but not a blight we can ignore. I will not let the Wolfgang, and make no mistake, they are the same as they have always been, I will not let the Wolfgang take this city and grind it to dust. Our counterpart, the Sungold Alliance is about to elect a delusional old fool that claims he ruled a kingdom a hundred years in the past, or a pirate that shits on the very city he would rule. I would gladly offer my full support to anyone that can claim to be able to stop Ulric and his march. Who? Who would do it? Lind, who thinks winning over the people with theoretical promises might be enough? Jun Ji Pei? A boy who hasn't spoken a word here, and even now stands in the shadow of his mother? Think on this."

    Guts stares at Hybros as he casts his vote. The Marauder, smiles, this would get him the victory. For now. There would be so much to do still, Sungold Alliance, Wolfgang, No, Wolf King, a political faction now. What happens leaves him drained. Guts leaves the room.

    Guts nods to Dyric for speaking for him in his silence, and walks in the middle of the room, adressing everyone present, but directing his words at Lind Whisperer. "Lind. I think we've all seen your ideals, and I for one admire them. A city of free men, ruled by representatives, a wonderful dream. Aren't we already free men and women? We are the Freeport Eubric! To for one minute forget that every man is equal and free in this city is an insult! I ask now, Lind. How will you make this republic of yours? A council of heroes, to start with. Heroes aren't representative of the people Lind. What about the merchants, which hero represents them? Which hero will represent the fishermen? The farmers outside our walls, the whores in our taverns? Then elections? How will you hold elections in a city divided by crime and poverty? This plan of yours will never work. You speak of me as a beginning of a dynasty. The absolute King Guts. Lind, you disappoint me. You should know I have no... living children, and while not too old, I have no desire of siring any offspring. How wrong could be. I will rule, no, LEAD, this city for as long as is needed, then leave it into capable hands fostered by a city of Progress and Liberty."

    Calamity should have had 6 defense from the focus sash, now 0 again. And Luke attacked from the back row, and since he attacks with melee, should do half damage. Calamity and Luke repeat.

    "Fuck you. Zane. Set a foot in Eubric and I will have a welcoming party waiting fit to deal with pests like you. Follow us and I will single your friends out and kill them one by one." Guts bites as he runs off after Dyric and Matthias.

    Guts growls at Zane."You cross us for days and now you are here to warn us? You summon Sandworms and send bandits after us, and you expect us to believe whatever you say? Are you listening to yourself? Are you aware of how insane you sound? A darkness. A darkness and shadows. You are ridiculous."

    "Put your back into it, Luke." Calamity sends another spell at Fish A this time, from the back row, while Luke attacks Fish B from the back row.

    Guts crosses his arms. Crazy people. "Do not let what near the fountain? The tree?"

    Calamity groans. "Where did you get that staff? Whatever it is, these guys don't like it." Luke attacks Fish A with his staff from the back row, Calamity attacks Fish B with a Darkness Spell from the back row.

    "Of course I will not drink. Madman, just drink your fill so we can move on, and never see each other again. I hope you end up like the remains of Iceborn's crew." Guts turns away, focussing on Daneeka filling his vial. Guts uncorks a couple of containers of his own, containing venom, and turns round again. "Just so you know, I'm poisoning the source after we leave. This place invites too much trouble, no matter what it does or does not do."

    "Of course. I'll keep an eye on you." Calamity smiles broadly at her new underling. "Less is more, you know. But. I see your point. Fine." Calamity swaps the golden Gloves for the Magician's Gloves and pockets the Garnet.

    Guts sighs and looks at his tattered coat, ragged from the travel, battles and being used as bandaging and cleaning cloth. He swiftly takes it off and cuts it in 6 roughly equal pieces. "There. You three, wrap that around your boots. It should muffle your steps enough. I will go first, on my soft shoes I should be fine. Daneeka is behind me, then Matthias with the Anvil, then Dyric. You will step in my footsteps, I will move as to shift as little sand as possible. I will walk quickly, but not so fast as to alert them. Ready?"

    Calamity runs on board, out of breath. "Sorry I'm late. I just came back from a trip to the mountains. It's a busy time of year..." She nods to the Captain, Luke, Warlen and Avalanche. "I'm Calamity. Nice to meet you all! Annie. I see you are here, as well." To business: "I'm happy with Warlen leading, too. Are there any possible magic-users in town? Teaching someone to throw a wild fireball is easy, if you have the resources. Maybe a bit messy. If not, I can just help teach people to fight with a staff. It's straightforward enough." Stats look good, thanks for having me!

    I really liked Quest 143. The characters involved were interesting, and I feel like you made the inclusion between this short story and the overall narrative pretty well. It was not necessary at all to know a lot about Endgame Quests, but provided good information for those that did. I also think it's fun that you left yourself plenty of room for follow-up to use this story as a base. We don't know exactly what was going on with the mage the old couple mentioned or what will happen to Garson and his sister. Maybe we find out in the future, maybe not. The puzzle could maybe have been improved by following what CMP usually does with puzzles, which is to get everyone to send their solution to the QM privately within an allotted time, because this time Lind did it before I even had a chance to look at the thread. The battle worked a bit weird, but that's totally understandable with the range of levels. It was maybe a bit too easy, but the way to do it with the amount of hits is a fairly good idea if there is a big level-gap. Overall, I am very happy to have gone on it and finally be hosted by you, Endgame.

    Guts smirks and shakes his head at Dyric. "He made it seem that he burned his half. What do you suggest, Daneeka?"

    Guts grins and gives Matthias a clap on the back. "Glad to hear you talking, Doc. You'll be fine, now." The Marauder takes out his dagger, and cuts a strip of cloth off his coat. He soaks the heavy cloth with a Potion and a Remedy, and continues wiping Daneeka off. "Matthias. Try searching for Captain Iceborn's corpse, a cave entrance, places of magic, I don't know.. Can you use your power over nature to locate sources or anything like that? And Zane. Locate Zane. We need to consider our options. Dyric, do you think Zane would give up his chance at the fountain, just like that? I think it likely he still has the map. That means we need to face him yet again. We're not going to make it in the time we agreed upon, but bugger that. I'd rather wait an extra week to make sure Daneeka is fit for travel anyways. What we can do is make our way east, gather help from the Orcs, and force Zane with superior numbers to give us the map. Or we can try to make a deal. At this point, I am not sure if we have another choice... Dealing with him would be bad. But... I don't know... We have a mission to complete."
