I always wanted to build those beautiful spaceships from one of the best series ever, Battlestar Galactica. Finally I managed to sit down and actually build instead of dreaming. My first choice was a Raptor since I really wanted to use that new windscreen from Agents theme. I'll try to build a Cylon Raider next time and Viper Mark2 some other day. Maybe I'll drop a micro scale Galactica on the way, who knows... Here's the result: Brickshelf folder when public Direct link to my web site gallery I hope you like it, let me know what you think so I can improve the model and myself.

Set 7979 - Errors in the packaging.
cagri replied to Doctor Sinister's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I too got two of the same figures* and none of the spear crownie and that happened in the two sets I ordered. And I just received my 7036 Dwarves' Mine yesterday and I'm missing two bricks with pin extension. Bummer! I'm not so lucky when it comes to Lego :) If the jester, maid or the witch was missing I'd surely phone TLG and ask for replacements. * http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=21595 -
8293 Power Functions Motor Set Theme: Technic Released: 2008 Price: 30 USD Pieces: 14 Introduction: There has been a long debate whether 8293 had a new "small" motor or not. Unfortunately we don't get a small motor and its existence remains a mystery. Now let's take a look at what we actually get. We don't have instructions, instead we get a little poster showing which sets can be motorized with 8293: We used to get parts & instructions for small gadgets in motor packs, we don't any more. Parts come in five polybags: One for each electric element plus one for other small parts. The light unit doesn't have a strong flash but doesn't consume too much energy: There is a black block in the middle of the cord same size as a 2x2 brick and the light up part of the unit is the same size as a pin. Clutch gear is always necessary with fast speed motors: TLG changed the color scheme of gears this year. We now get tan, black and dark bley gears instead of light bleys. Variety is always nice. The new 3-stud long universal joint is the most interesting part of the year if you ask me: The 4-stud long universal joint doesn't actually come with the set, I pictured it for comparison. We haven't had a pole reverser for years: There is only one socket for input/output unlike the older pole reverser and the cord length is not adjustable since the cord comes attached. We already have tens of Power Functions battery boxes and medium motors from other sets: But it wouldn't be a motor pack without them. Folder when public: Brickshelf Rating: -Figures: 0/0 No figures in this set. -Parts: 8/10 We don't get many small parts unlike the older motor packs but have new PF elements instead. -Price: 8/10 30 USD is just fine for all the electric parts we get. -Design: 7/10 Even though PF theme is a great step in eletric parts, I don't like the unadjustable cord system. It should have been designed better. -Building: 0/0 Nothing to build in this set. -Total: 23/30 A nice starter pack for Power Functions. Conclusion: If you haven't got the 8297 Off Roader, it's a must buy. We don't get the pole reverser and the light unit from any other set - not counting Vestas promo. Besides I'm sure many Technic fans have been waiting for the new universal joint which we get 3 with this set. Buy with confidence. Links: Brickset Reviews Bricklink Entry Peeron Inventory

7038 Troll Assault Wagon Theme: Castle Released: 2008 Price: 20 USD Pieces: 137 (4 minifigures) Introduction: With the orcs using the neverending source of energy, what will our hero crownies do? Yield to fate or fight to death ? We have one booklet for instructions: No alternate models. Standart parts for a castle model: The wheels are the ugliest things I have ever seen. Extra parts: We don't get a sticker sheet with this set. 4 figures for 20 USD: We have two different crownies, a nice orc and a great troll. The big troll is a beautiful beautiful creature! He can hold other figures in his hands, mostly crownies unfortunately. He has spikes on his back, I wonder if they hurt when he's sleeping? I love the sand green color, it looks better than the dark tan troll which comes in 7036 Dwarves' Mine. We get a good variety of weapons with this set: It would be perfect if the big troll had a club. The cart is cute but the handle could have been a little shorter: I'll modify this and use it in MOCs. Building in progress: Too many Technic elements for a castle model. There are three missiles hidden behind the flag: They are fired by pulling the spring stand. Flag slows down the missiles though. Still building: I don't want any more of that useless spine! I wish we had cloth flags instead of plastics: Metallic silver 1x1 round plates will come in handy. It's very empty on the inside: 7092 Skeletons' Prison Carriage was much better when it came to building. Complete model: It's very hard to drive the wagon, chains will break immediately. Won't stop until he gets the chicken leg: Actually the whip is a little short. Oldest trick in the book, but it works with our dumb troll: He is mostly fed with crownies so food is cheap. Why not use his power to pull battle wagons? Folder when public: Brickshelf Rating: -Figures: 8/10 All of the figures are nice and detailed, big troll is the ultimate figure. But we could have one more at this price. -Parts: 6/10 Nothing new and interesting, too many Technic elements. Figure weapons are nice though, I love the orc sword. -Price: 7/10 If we had some other figure instead of the big troll it would be extremely pricy. We get very few parts too! -Design: 6/10 I don't find it appealing and it's doesn't have much playability. -Building: 6/10 All that Technic building is boring when you want to play with something castlish. -Total: 33/50 If it didn't have the orc and the big troll, I'd probably pass this one. Conclusion: Figures are interesting for castle builders, other than I don't find anything appealing with this set. It's poor to play with, part count and selection is awful. Considering the price tag, it's not a shining model. None castle player will definetly avoid this one but castle builders will probably get this since it's the cheapest way to have a troll. 7979 Castle Advent Calendar Theme: Castle Released: 2008 Price: 13 Pounds Pieces: 176 Warning: I ordered two of this set from SAH and both of copies had only one kind of crown knight even though it shows two different crownies in the box. I have seen other people receiving the two different figures so it might be just my luck. My luck in a good way! The duplicate figures I received have a new design released with this set and I'm happy to own four them. So please note that I'm reviewing a faulty version of this set! Introduction: Aren't we all tired of those silly Town calendars each year, all those different presentations of the same content? The same garbage men, police officers, firemen.. We already got them from regular sets! Finally TLG managed offer something completely new and it makes up for all the lost years of Castle theme. Meet our new Castle advent calendar: There are 24 (surprise!) seperate polybags for each day: Strangely they have different sizes? All those brown parts will be useful for any castle builder: We get quite a lot of transparent parts as well. Various containers and a small treasure: Wouldn't it be nice if we had a coin pack instead of one of the gem sets? Pottery, food and animals: Probably animals and food meant the same thing back then! Lots of figure accesories, we could use some more shields though: Gotta love that magic spark! It only came with 7093 before the calendar. Extra parts: Isn't that carrot top cute ? We have nine unique figures, five of them are released with this set: Don't mind the picture, I received one type of crown knight instead of two. Jester is one of the bestest figures of all time: Harley Quinn from 7886 would be a great match as his enemy. We haven't had an witch for some time. They will be a great couple with the evil wizard from 7093: The wonderful maid has two different faces, the other one can be seen in of the pictures below. Dreadful witch quarters: Snake soup for dinner? Yuck! The evil band of undead: Brown crossbow on a black skeleton doesn't look so good. Hard working dwarf with his tools: If only the cart could fit in the railway sytem of 7036. The visor is nice: You already met my twin crownies. Archery range is really sweet: The two battle tools are not so interesting. Watch out for Spidey! The desk and the stool is well-designed. I love the plate/glass color as well. All the castle folk: Carrot, apple and mouse doesn't match. Hit him in head maid! Folder when public: Brickshelf Rating: -Figures: 10/10 It would be better to get something else instead of the skeletons but that wouldn't be possible without a raise in the price. -Parts: 7/10 We get quite a lot of interesting parts such as food, containers, animals, accesories.. They make nice details. But the rest is just standart parts. -Price: 10/10 I'm willing to pay 25 Pounds for this little treasure! -Design: 8/10 Not much to design here, but the stool, archery range, shelving.. is useful in MOCs. -Building: 8/10 It will be exciting to place these little models by your window every day. If you can wait until Christmas :) -Total: 43/50 Jump out of the window if you don't like this set! Conclusion: Nothing much left to say, pictures speak for themselves. We all have been waiting for this set since its picture leaked early this year. I'm really happy that it wasn't a fake one and I hope TLG will make another calendar for next year. I'm sure this one will be top seller and eventually it will be released in North America since there is a great demand and market. Order yours right now! Links: Brickset Reviews Bricklink Entry Peeron Inventory Notes: -Once again, I'd like to mention that the two copies of this set I own came with one type of Crown knights instead of two. I ordered my sets from UK SAH and I don't know how common this problem is. -I just realized that I could have replaced the figures from my inventory but I was a little slow to come up with this solution. I already took the pictures and I'm too lazy to start shooting again. Sorry! -My camera has white balance problems and my light source continuously changes so the images do not reflect the original colors of the parts. I'm sorry for that. -WhiteFang just told me that magic spark doesn't only come with 7093 & 7979 but with various other sets as well. I must have missed it, sorry !

7040 Dwarves' Mine Defender Theme: Castle Released: 2008 Price: 10 USD Pieces: 73 (3 minifigures) Introduction: Here I am, with one of the newest Castle sets realeased in early 2008. It's a small battle wagon with blades on the front, probably to demolish rocks in mines. But in this case, our hero dwarf has to use his machine against the evil trolls who want to destroy his happy kingdom. There is only one small booklet for instructions, no alternate model: Parts come in two bags, one for small pieces and one for bigger ones: Apart from the lovely figures, the brown parts will be quite useful for any castle builder. Extra parts are not even worth mentioning, there are no stickers: Figures are detailed enough, dwarf is lovely with his beard but his legs won't move because he is short: Figures are the main attraction for adult players. We haven't seen castle army builder sets for a long while and this is closest we've got in recent years. The dwarf is a little taller than it should have been but it's not possible to do so without creating a completely new mould for figures and that would be expensive. Its beard is oversized as well but that gives him a Legoish look which I like a lot. The trolls - that's what everybody calls them but I say they are orcs - are obviously evil but they are friendly enough not to scare our munchkins. But I wish they had different torsos or at least different faces like crownies. There are not enough weapons to arm everyone but the flag pole is really nice: Unlike the Star Wars army builders, this set has very little weaponry. Only one sword and one pike creates scarcity for 3 figures - Star Wars sets had 4 figures for same price! So I hope our middle age warriors don't come across any stormtroopers :) Building in progress: When you pull the chain the catapult fires a round brick: The set has quite good playability, moving blades and firing catapult should be fun for little children. I wouldn't expect more functions for such a small sized model, it hardly covers my hand. The blades move with the front wheel on the right: There is only one little downside, there is too much friction for the wheel and blades won't move synchronized. You may come over this problem by adjusting the blade height and lining them with the wheels. Mow the little buggers! You can adjust the blade height: There isn't enough room for the dwarf: Folder when public: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=338578 Rating: -Figures: 8/10 Dwarf is amazing, trolls are great too but I wish they had different faces. -Parts: 7/10 Brown slopes are new, rest is ok too. -Price: 7/10 Acceptable but we have seen sets with more figures for less. -Design: 6/10 It looks kind of steampunkish but could be better with a little detail. -Building: 6/10 Not repeating itself, still nothing exciting. -Total: 34/50 Castle fans will definetely order this one but average Lego player may not be interested. Conclusion: Overall, it's a nice set and I'd recommend it if you like the castle theme. You'll find some good use for the figures and this is the cheapest figure set of the year - at 3.33 USD each. It could have more armory and weaponry but otherwise it's quite alright. Skip lunch today and order this little set! Links: Brickset Reviews Bricklink Entry Peeron Inventory

7990 Cement Mixer Theme: Town Released: 2007 Price: 15 USD Pieces: 209 (1 minifigure) Introduction: Need a skyscraper built? A mother-in-law buried? A treasure kept? No problem, here I come ! Only one booklet for instructions without any alternative model: It's divided into two sections for two seperate baggies which the parts come in. Parts come in two big bags: A few big pieces and the stickers are loose in the box. Extra parts and sticker sheet: Dark bluish gray 1x1 round plates are meant to be used as cement. Sticker sheet is neat. A standard worker with helmet: He comes with a shovel. Colour scheme makes it easy to understand the instructions: It's easy for younger Lego enthusiasts to build the model. Building in progress: Chassis of the truck is really sturdy. Drivers seat is on the left: I wish we had a real seat instead of a modified tile. Working drum mechanism: You can turn the cement drum from a handle on the front right. Nice details on the front: Rearview mirrors are great. I love the SNOT front panel too. Control panel on the left: Cement hose hardly fits its place and the hose is too thick. Don't forget the shovel: SNOT technique is used on the back panel as well. Long & wide truck with 8 wheels: I love the 6-stud-wide design of new town series. Cement drum actually works: If you place a couple of 1x1 plates in the drum and turn the handle it pours out the little cement parts! Man at work: All this hard work gave me wrinkles on my face :( Folder when public: Brickshelf Rating: -Figures: 6/10 Nothing special with the figure but what did I expect? At least we have a face expression. -Parts: 6/10 Standart parts for a truck but the big blue drum is new. -Price: 8/10 Very nice and detailed truck for 15 USD. -Design: 9/10 It really does look great, doesn't it? -Building: 8/10 Easy to build and it's fun with a little use of SNOT. -Total: 37/50 It's a must for every town. But other players should find it attractive as well. Conclusion: I occasionally order Town sets but I felt a great urge to build this when I first saw it on Brickshelf. When it was released I ordered it right away. Ten days later I was amazed looking at this beauty by my table. We didn't have a cement mixer for ages and I'm sure every Town builder will have this set. And I have no doubt non-Town enthusiasts, like me, will consider getting this. 7673 MagnaGuard Starfighter Theme: Star Wars Released: 2008 Price: 45 USD Pieces: 413 (2 minifigures) Introduction: An easy-to-build but detailed starship with two very cool figures. Could have been a little cheaper though... We only have one booklet for instructions: Without any alternate models. Parts come in polybags, there is a couple of wedges loose in the box: It would be better if the bags were numbered like in 7672. But it's ok for a set this size. Extra parts and the very cool sticker sheet: I wonder if we'll ever have some useful extra parts... Recently released parts coming with the set: Cone has a different top, bar has a thicker stop and the windscreen is awesome! Magna Droid figures looks scary: They come with a new style of cape which are secured in a cardboard as always. Shock staff is not a unique weapon: But still we get to have the new trans-purple cones. Cockpit can be opened by pushing the ball joints: The new windscreen is going be very useful in MOCs. Building in progress: A few tan and dark red parts remove the monotony. No seat on the back: Even though we have two figures there is room for only one. As always we have a lot of repeating for the wings: Everyone hates it but that's the nature of building symmetrical models. Complete model: The starship looks very nice and I loved it with all my heart. The use of strencher holders is a great detail: Torpedo type of laser guns can rotate 360 degrees. Wings can be lifted up to free the shock staffs: Uhm.. we have one droid flying but have two staffs? Opening panel on the back reveals the hidden missiles: Missiles are made of a cone and a pin with bar extension. Folder when public: Brickshelf Rating: -Figures: 8/10 Droids are great with a lot of detail, but it would be nice to have one more figure for this price. -Parts: 7/10 Lots of dark bleys, all the standart stuff. Those tan and dark reds save the variety. The windscreen is fantastic of course! -Price: 6/10 It's actually a little expensive with only two figures. 0,109 USD per part is not so good either. -Design: 8/10 I loved the final design of the model, one of the best ships I own. -Building: 8/10 There is quite a lot of detail while building this set. It's great to see how they formed the engines. -Total: 37/50 No doubt SW fans will be cramping for the droids, I think it's worth buying for the model as well. It's very nice for display too! Conclusion: I like to create space ship MOCs and Star Wars sets are a great source for the parts I need. Other than that I'm not a big fan of the series. But I may choose to display this set instead of parting it out. It looks so very lovely! Besides it's the most interesting Star Wars set in this range of price, 7674 V-19 Torrent is way overpriced. I say we have a winner! Links: Brickset Reviews Bricklink Entry Peeron Inventory Notes: -I'm sorry for the white balance problem in the pictures. I had a hard time with my camera today.
