1. I'm sure a bantha would look like Duplo.
2. Starships are amazing and all, but unique ideas are what would really make the anniversery tick. How about the Ewok Village?! Bring back Ewoks or new designs. I can imagine a huge and well made Ewok Village with awesome trees, an interesting top, and all of the other neccesary components. Luke, Han, Leia, R2, and C3PO in Endor Style, 5 ewoks, and an un-used Imperial General along with some kind of new trooper. All of them COULD be new figures, there are no need for stickers, and hey, it would be just plain sweet. Also, I'm sure it could come with a vehicle of some sort- two speeder bikes, Endor beasts, and more! Wicket introduction! Awesome secrets! Make it, Lego! Or, that "Shield Reactor" for the Death Star II. A huge radar with many troopers, an Ewok or two, and a bunch of troopers. Vader and palpy. Speaking of Palpy, maybe the Throne Room! That would be awesome- a detailed core, the throne, loads of unique troopers and all of that. It's signature too, of course!
3. King Kahuka. That's right. Lardbutt sitting on his dinky little throne, waiting for a big BSB to come sailing by so that he can use his voodoo magic. I'm not that big a fan of Islanders, and right now, I'm not sure what I should add to my collection anyway and I'm looking for help. Kahuka and his throne are in pieces, anyway. :(
4. Yesterday I found out that I was half islander, and I had a strange will to cannibalise my dog. Go figure. ;-)
5. I only own one of the Islanders sets. It's incomplete, lost to a big box of new, mostly (and opinionably) crappy sets. However, I don't know which path I'll take.
6. Everyone knows which pirates sets practically attach to each other. Which ones everyone thinks of as brothers. However, we should try to discover some selections which aren't so easy to imagine. An idea I had: Pirates: Rock Island Refuge Castaway's Raft Blue Imperials: Carribian Clipper Harbour Sentry Along with smaller sets, to add depth and more on each side. Try to think of set combos which are, for the most part, less obvious. For an example, don't have the BSB and the EF... I'm sure it's been thought of before (and put on a collectors card). If you want, you can put a layout of how everything would display.
7. Fire the spring-loaded missiles! <-1
8. I was once a new Lego Fan. I enjoyed everything up until 2006, in which some newer themes, idea, etc. most certainly did not appeal to me. On that same year, going to my usual lego specialty store around the GTA and looking for bargains and any old sets. I was very mad at myself, buying sets such as KK II and even a little bit of Exo Force, as well as Dino Attack and old Studios off of Bricklink. I had missed an AT-AT from 2003, almost every Episode III set, and anything else that nowadays may be worth 300$ or more. I had struggled to purchase old Technic from MY actual childhood in 1998 and beyond, but it was a dead end. Then, behind glass, I noticed an old and banged up looking box. Don't get too excited... next to an ARC-Fighter complete was a sealed box... King Kahuka. The small, 10$ set. To me, it was like the BSB. Instantly excited, I asked for it. Due to my curiosity, I ended up getting it. The catalogs... they seemed ancient to me! The set had odd pieces, not as glossy as before, dusty and particularily old. However, it was an impressive set. 2007 has, admitedly, brought out an uncontrollable rage. My only 2007 set (though I bought several SW 2006ers) was Pridak, which had streaked paint, a terrible build, and airy pieces. He was the last straw before I decided to quit LEGO, for good. I began packing my 3 metre-long boxes to sell to someone, though I knew I wasn't going to get a very good price. I had some semi-rare sets on me. It is still unsold, sitting there. My King Kahuka went in there, and unfortunately, he is lost now. I don't want to rebuild him, because out of so many pieces, there's bound to be a similar looking 2007-style piece. I wanted the original ones, and I realized, this would be an impossible mission. About a year or so later, I'm heavily interested in Pirates. They are an extremely attractive series, almost a beautiful art. I don't know which I'll collect, however. That will take more time. There are still 2 Star Wars sets I need: Y-Wing UCS Death Star II UCS And then, I'll collect pirates. However, I may pick up some smaller ones on the way.
9. It's been over 2.5 years since this has been replied to. The 4+ pirate theme was, honestly, about the same as Belville. The smaller accessories and random parts could be, for the most part, salvaged and used very slightly only when neccesary. However, every single other element can be deemed useless right off the bat.
10. No, of course not, Phes. Why would I open a rare set, in MISB mint condition? Wouldn't it be smarted if I tortured myself by staring at the box, wondering how Captain Roger's doing inside, waiting to be built, and every once and a while X-raying the box to dream about the pieces inside? Treat yourself. Sometimes, you just gotta ignore the future sell price and relax. However, what I would do is buy complete versions of the MISB's you have. That way, there'll be no anxiety.
11. I've been waiting for a topic like this for a prolonged period of time, one where I wouldn't be onslaughted with flamming just by making it. It's not so much the new Bionicle I hate, but the other "specialized" series... the Mars Mission, the Exo-Force (ESPECIALLY), some of the newer Star Wars. However, I'm pretty annoyed that it's gone from what I started to grow up with to something the next generation of 6 year olds will enjoy so quickly (as well as the fans who have stayed with the new series) When I was 6, I was practically obsessed with the Mata series. I once held a Tarakava box in my hands once, and I never wish I would have bought <insert that tiresome argument> toys instead. Of course, I started to move away from this recently, trying out various hobbies like GW and stuff, but quit due to the ridiculous pricing. However, it did show me that my first reason for quitting the whole LEGO genre was due to the challenge- the new sets take me 10 minutes tops, where-as I'd actually take my time building the older ones. I used to base my personality on them, but do I really want to base mine on the 2007's? Well, actually, yes. The storyline for 2007 is immense, huge, a fantasy of epic preportions. However, comparing it to the simple, drifting, and somewhat calming tiki-style irony-packed 2001, it wasn't as effective on me. The juniorization these days makes me want to strangle. Replying to the bodies of the Toa Mata, maybe it's smart not to use them in MOC's, as with the Piraka bodies. Maybe they should be just used seperately, for Toa, or something along those lines. Why even try? Just use them for what they re there for! In other words, it's kind of obvious that the 2001 bodies were oblivios to MOCing, but I personally would try to keep out the <insert that tiresome argument> Piraka bitz from my creations. I have all of 2007's mini's, as well as a deformed Pridak (this is where I stopped in Feb this year or so) and I have to admit, they're just a bunch of liftarms put together to make a figure. Then, they strap on a rare piece to make a torso. Finally, the head. For each mini 2007 set, I only found one collectable. On the other hand, you know what? The Turaga only have one more than the new sets: their mask, and their staves. Concerning the features, however, I think Greg's being a bit of a joke. Light-ups were only mildly fun in the dark. Flashing swords gave me epilepsy. Glow in the Dark was once not used as a preliminary feature. All long-distance weapons are hunks of bricks. The gears, unfortunately, have ceased to exist. I miss those gears, sitting in my Mata bodies. I loved battling. But now, size seems to be a huge "feature". Give me a break, I don't want some huge thing sitting on my desk, maybe some Rahi, but not a <insert that tiresome argument> Dragon, etc. This is the only department in which I feel directly insulted, and I feel this is where Bionicle's going downhill. In the end, however, despite the fact that I'm far more on the side of 2001, I must say that everyone is equal here, and we should be proud of our opinions for the various years. I actually enjoyed 2001, 2004 and 2006 the best. There were nice enemies, good storylines, good videogames (Bionicle Heroes is actually fun in a way). Believe it or not, I found that 2004 wasn't very <insert that tiresome argument>. It seems that way, especially with the matoran. However, I actually loved the disks, the Vahki, the Toa, and especially the Titans. Turaga Dume was cool, but my favourite titan would have to be Krekka, by far. The Piraka were reasonable (though I hated the toa of 2006), and Brutaka was one mean killing machine. However, 2001 in my opinion had more to like about it. Very simple, no eyes popping out at storylines, etc. HOWEVER, IF I MAY GO OFF TOPIC FOR A BIT... Exo-Force is helpless. Sure, we've got the pieces and stuff, not neccesarily just a hunk of bricks. However, poor designing, terrible figures, unneccesary violence and introducting one of my least favourite arts to Lego. LEGO should end it- it's so stupid, I doubt it can be saved. As well as Mars Mission... a personal insult to LoM? One of my other favourites? Life on Mars, Studios and Bionicle. The terrible colours... the vehicles which relate to all of those dumb animated shows... non-logical storyline and lacking figures make it meat for the kill. It's these two things that makes my blood boil, it feels like a slap in the face so hard it stings forever. AND BACK TO NORMAL... Overall, I enjoyed Bionicle over the years, and I think that everyone has an even say. 2001-2006 were fine, though 2007 is a bit less good (squid launchers, cordak, etc) and overall 2008 looks like the end of the line for me. Maybe we should all agree that most of the years were reasonable, and look at 2001-2006 as buddies compared to challengers.
12. The worst set you've ever had... covering only the defects which unfortunately came with it. Minifig-sized Batmobile for me. Wrong wheels, mixed paint hair for Two-Face (more than just the half and half, colours were spilling), the mechanism wouldn't work (missile wouldn't reach van due to lowness of wheels), and overall it was a very poorly made set, alltogether. The only things I can compliment about it are the faces included, torsos, and legs. As for yours?
13. BIG QUESTION! WHAT UCS SHOULD I GET WITH Y-WING AND TIE ADVANCED? I LIKE SNOWSPEEDER, I'M NOT LOOKING FOR HUGE 600000 DOLLAR SET! *sad*
14. Flash Speeder. However, it may have been a three-pack containing Naboo Fighter, Slave I and Gungan Patrol. I'll always like the Flash Speeder the best. ;) I'm re-buying it for sure, no matter the cost, MISB and in practically perfect condition.
15. I like the Y-Wing Attack Starfighter. I was trying to save up for it before, only to loose interest for a prolonged period of time. I'm just nuts for it now- it's huge, and it's incredibly detailed. 200 bucks on Bricklink, but overall I think that's okay. Not ENTIRELY a waste of money. I've never purchased any UCS sets, but I know as a fact that MOST are at least credible. This would go well (same colour/shade, go together with storyline, both look nice) with Darth Vader's Tie Advanced X1. Also UCS, it's got greys, blacks and dark greys compared to the greys, whites and yellows the Y-Wing sports. They go well together and all, but from the appearance of the Tie Advanced, it seems somewhat small. Is it a considerably good set, or shelf space? Will I look back to it as one of the most unique and awesome sets I own, or should I purchase another UCS? Judging by the videos I have seen, it looks overall as an interesting, yet simply designed ship. However, it IS an impressive ship. Another idea would be getting the UCS Snowspeeder. It's bigger, got slightly higher scores, and I once wanted it as part of my collection. However, it's 300 bucks on Bricklink. I'm not paying more than about 200 for each set- that's just ripping me off. Of course, I always get ripped off on Bricklink, but that's just natural. Never before have I bought something for 300, however, and I'm not intending to. Near my old house there was a Lego Store... not vintage, but small- and in 2005, behind the counter and all wrinkled- King Kahuka, sealed, for 10 bucks. Not too rare for most fans, but to me it was like a blessing. They sold the Orient Expedition sets there, from 2003- and there just may be some Star Wars in that. They have tons of the rare sets on display- the 2004 falcon, the Original AT-AT, Sith Infiltrator- rare little things, at least to a fan who hasn't reached much of the depth yet. However, I just want to stop now. The pieces are kind of everywhere, and I kind of want to pick up a few of the old sets I intended to, but never did (as well as many of the newer ones). These sets are: Y-Wing Snowspeeder Cloud City AT-AT Jabba's Palace Tie Advanced X1 Silver Champion 4X4 Offroader Extreme Off-Roader Backhoe Loader Ten sets that, if I were to have spotted them, I would beg for just about now. Ranging from 80$ to 300$, I'm just looking for the easy way out.
16. It sure is/was. Well, I kind of bought it. 2006 was truly amazing, I just have a brattish and annoying hatred for the other new ones. Anyone know what the two busts (Yoda sculpture and Darth Maul Bust) are like? I was thinking of getting the Gungan Sub, Gungan Swamp and Gungan Patrol to fill my quota of those obnoxious beings. You know, the gungans wouldn't be so annoying were it not for Jar Jar. This might be on top of the Extreme series from Technic (4x4) and Off-Roader).
17. I know, I guess it's pretty early. Might just hand around for a bit and buy some lego sculptures like Cafe Corner and stuff. We'll see.
18. I was only 9. It's not like I knew better. I'm 13 now.
19. This is good stuff. I like the care for detail you put into everything, such as the choice of faces, debris. Even the 4+ elements are welcomed, of course. I love Potc.
20. Wait, wait, wait! Sorry, what I was trying to say came out wrong. I love the "semi-older" sets from 2002-2004 and such, but I really admit to hating 2008. 2006-2007 was a good time too, but I started to feel the effects. I'm not quitting BECAUSE I hate the new sets, that's actually sort of irrelevant. I just want to move on, collect those last few sets I remember seeing but never getting due to the price when they were in stores- you know, the old stuff. I'm not outwardly angry towards LEGO, but I'll say that I'm pretty annoyed. THEREFORE, I just want a few sets that were really cool within that range. As of today, I've thought of: Jedi Starfighter (2002, Epi. II) Slave I (2002, Epi. II) *just clearing up that I didn't mean OT, sorry AT-AT (2003, Epi. VI) Jabba's Palace, Jabba's Message, and Jabba's Prize (2003, Epi. VII) Millenium Falcon (2004, OT) Sandcrawler (2005, OT) Cloud City (2003, Epi. IV) Sith Infiltrator (1999, Epi. I) Lightsaber Battle (1999, Epi. I) My favourite set design would actually have to be 2003 and possibly 2004, but overall I'm pretty loose on that. You don't have to use the ones on the list, you can suggest your own if you want. I know how skilled at that Eurobrick members can be... X-D I use Bricklink a lot, but I haven't tried Ebay. I'm not looking forward to a speech on how to use it blah blah blah blah blah, anyway. *EDIT: Why just quit and not buy any sets? Why would I want to do that? I love building LEGO, and once I quit and give my collection away hopefully for money, I'm planning on buying the ones I wanted before. It'll be costly, but THOSE I'll keep forever and not give away. Don't ask why, just sentimental.
21. *sigh* It's complicated. Some may know me from my pirates topic, my annoying clammer and obnoxious "comebacks" to everything anyone says. But it's serious now, and I'm quitting LEGO. I'll say it with honesty and not be a wimp when I say that I strongly dislike the new sets (but I won't get into flaming detail). I'm planning on buying perhaps some SW, but I'm not sure which sets. So far, I'm interested in the older sets- 2002-2004 range, before they brought out MDstone and Ltflesh. But I was wondering if anyone could suggest anything. I like the slave I and jedi starfighter array, but I want some OT action as well. I don't believe I'm allowed to use EBAY, just Bricklink. Also, seperate sellers on Lugnet and such who are planning on selling it are welcomed. Please help!
22. Alright you guys, I'll admit- I'm really interested in LEGO Ninja. (NOT ANYMORE.)
23. Kahuka. He's a great leader, and unfortunately he always seems to get the short end of the- ...err... ... "tribal walking stick?" Kahuka is a hidden leader. Though he hasn't a boat, nor a huge base to live with, he managed to cope with islands and to respect the wilderness around him. In wars, he had no cannons, so he must train his warriors to be at their physical zenith. Javelins, bows and such adorn his army... and in my opinion, it takes much greater skill to use a bow over a rifle. He is smart enough to keep to himself (he and his islanders just want some peace to build up their civilization/worship their gods) and knows that it takes more than a blockade of soldiers or an ambushing crew of pirates to win a battle. Unlike Lazy Ol' Broadside, he consistantly defends alongside his men, and he seems to be the only general who knows that sometimes violence isn't the only answer. "No violence" doesn't cover vollies of poisoned arrows striking down hundreds of men from out of the bushes. Nice hat.
24. Obviously , no pirate is never clean. :-/. But after their unfortunate discontinument, Pirate sets have become extremely rare. Due to this, AFOLs try their best to keep their collection at MINT condition for displaying, selling, or the like. What methods (if any) do you use to clean off your figurines? I do the easy thing. First of all, I try to wash any important displays every once and a while. Taking the model/figures, I bring them into the downstairs bathroom and either break them into their seperate pieces or seperate them into sections concerning size and time. Then, I place the components into the sink (don't forget to close the drain, or you'll regret it forever). Taking some liquid soap, I try my best to then rub in some soap on, making sure to get into every crack carefully to get the dust, grime, dead fruit flies, sand and dog hair out. By now the soap has been washed off in the water, and is dried with a facecloth (I don't like using paper towels because they will break into soggy "crud" and stick to the model, nor do I like using a washing towel because... well, who knows what's been on there?). I like to leave a BIT of water on so the plastic can benefit... I compared two of the same set, one hadn't been washed while the other had gotten the "treatment" as I call it- the washed bricks are not only obviously cleaner, but more flexible and "worn in". I find this really improves a set. Then, I rebuild the parts of the set and put it back on display. With figures, I don't do it as much due to fading stenciling. But it looks so much better! I'd like to hear your methods... I would like to experiment with different techniques and find out what benefits the model the most. ;-)
25. I dunno about Islanders, I like them and all but they don't really make you feel "piratey"... Suggestions are extremely welcome.
