  1. There are lots of excellent photos of the display on the BLTG website @ http://www.bltg.org/gallery-2012.htm
  2. There are some good shots of the medieval side of the BLTG display in a video posted on EB community - Lego Events @ http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=69495
  3. This is an overview of the medieval side of the display.
  4. It was a long weekend in Brisbane and the Brisbane LEGO Train Group spent the time at Australia's largest model train show. Once again, our display was crowded by visitors; mostly with children in arms. The excitement and smiles from thousands of viewers made it all worthwhile. We started out at the end of last year to develop a theme of "A train trip through time'. We were going to start off in the prehistoric era and end up in space but these things don't always happen. The result was a stream starting in the medieval times and flowing through Japan and Egypt and falling into a Viking fiord. The rest of the display became a city and farms and ending up at a snow covered ski slope. It ended up as a great display as told by thousands of people. The local newspaper put a small video of the show on their website for 24 hours and the majority of the 2 minutes were shots of the the Lego display. One of our members has produced a video to show some highlights of this display.
  5. Sariel, Your vignette is one of those things that stick in your mind. Whilst preparing a medieval display for a model train show last weekend, I built a bridge across the river for the 3 Billy Goats Gruff. When I finished it, you vignette jumped out at me; "None shall pass!" Thus I shamelessly copied your idea. Both sides of the bridge provided interest; the billy goats for the kids and the Black Knight for the adults. There were a lot of grown ups walking around reciting the script from that scene; "It's only a scratch", "I've had worse" and " Come back and I'll bite your legs off. OK, let's call it a draw.
  6. Daisy, Thank you for a succinct analysis of current studies into gender. Vive la difference.
  7. I liked his tree so much that I have spent all afternoon building one; it is brilliant. The tree is really well designed; it has great durability for a display. It is so good that I went to Cuusoo and voted for it.
  8. Brilliant work. I love the autumn trees. Very clever use of the 'alien' pieces in the gazebo.
  9. Looks good. DLuders, how did you connect the wire from the motor to your control point on a large table?
  10. Well done; very creative. I love the bunny engine; it looks cute. You have given us lots of ideas for next Easter.
  11. I can't wait to get my hands on some new horses. They will look great with a troop of soldiers [ your own choice ] galloping off to battle. Well done LEGO.
  12. Bingo Little, Thank you so much for sharing your great MOC with us; it is very inspirational and tells the Easter story so succinctly. Well done. My favourite photo is the one of Pilate washing his hands; very powerful. Keep up the good work.
  13. Over the years, I have managed to collect a few of the old bases with the red and blue magnets; including the cut out base for the engine. Ever since I bought ideas book 7777 for my kids, I had always wanted to build a circus train similar to the one in the book. A couple of years ago, I finally got around to completing this project. The loco is built around a 9V motor and the cars are on the old bases. It is always a hit with kids at train shows as they love to see the animals in the cages. Adults enjoy watching and hearing it as it rattles around the track. At speed, the old wheels on 9V tracks sounds like the rattle of the old steam trains; a bit of nostalgia for us grey haired folk.
  14. Now that is my sort of calendar; girls and LEGO. If only it was for real..........
  15. Looks great, Xyver. I especially like the roof.
  16. LT Once again, it is looking good. As you are getting ready to build a tram, I thought that I might share a tram that I built a couple of years ago. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/618CMU/Whitetrain/dsc_4123.jpg It is a Brisbane 'drop centre' tram from the '50s. It is pictured going past the Brisbane City hall at the BLTG display last year. One day I will get around o putting stickers on it. It has a 9V motor and moves on 9V tracks quite well. I hope this helps.

    Friends Car

On the slot car set, the only clue to the company is this web address:- www.CubeRace.com It is not much of a web site. I emailed them about some replacement gears but I never got a reply.

Thank you for those kind words. The slot cars are very effective on a train layout to provide extra movement.. One of the members of BLTG [ Brisbane LEGO Train Group ] found these slot cars on an on-line store in Australia a few years ago. They are cheap and they are nasty; but they work for a while. The gears inside are plastic and eventually the teeth snap off. The selling point for us was that the curved tracks approximated the curve of the LEGO road plates; thus they were ideal to put around the city streets. By fiddling with the wiring under the track, we were able to change the power so that we could have cars moving in opposite directions. Last year, we had all of the cars2 vehicles moving around the track. We attached a 9V train controller to each track so that we had lots of power to each track. The kids loved it when we had a race between Lightning McQueen and Francesco. Somehow Lightning would always win. The cars themselves have Lego like studs on the top. The kits come with lots of bricks to make cars but like most Chinese clones, they don't stick together very well. We threw the imitation bricks away and built our "Lego" cars on top. Unfortunately, the online store has been out of stock all year.
  19. Great work coghilla . The buildings are fantastic. The colours of the apartment block place it firmly in Surfers Paradise back in the 80s; very realistic. I love the humour in the name of the publishing house; 'polar bear' instead of 'penguin'.

Stephanie became tired of just sitting in her car so she went for a drive around Lego city. At first I thought that Steph would fall over as she can't sit on studs [ no pun intended ] but LEGO had prevented that by including a new element that holds her feet still.
  21. Looking great LT. Maybe it is the flash of your camera, but the footpath appears to be too shiny. Maybe using some old 'yellowing' tiles would give a more realistic effect. Of course some of the PK from the milkbar on the footpath and some oil on the road would give an extra touch of realism.
  22. Waterfords is now showing up nicely. The more I see of it, the more impressed I am.
  23. The exclusiveness of the Waterford crystal can be seen in this shot of the interior. The crystal clock is great.
  24. There certainly is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The curve of the rainbow is superb. I like the way in which you used correct colours [nearly] in the rainbow.
  25. Great work. The interior really captures the feel of an expensive, exclusive store. I love the clock; pure crystal.
