It's no longer a leak since it's up on the official Lego website now: 10355 Blacktron Renegade! Priced at $100, releasing Jan 1 for insiders and Jan 4 for everyone else. https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/blacktron-renegade-10355

No. This was more than a decade ago, it probably didn't even exist yet at the time. Back then it was a matter of either building it yourself or use a website host that offered the service as part of the plan, rather than specialized web services for this. Times have changed and it's all become a lot easier now, but I have no experience with Patreon myself I'm afraid.

That would be awesome! I think the number of people willing to sub might end up paying the bills for a few years on relatively short notice, nobody likes ads but supporting a good cause is a whole different story! (as a small note on subscription plans, it's probably best to have both monthly and yearly payment options available, I've seen it on sites where I was an admin that there's usually demand for both)

Not much to add to what's been said. Using RB to manage my collection, and using just my hands to sort my bricks.
-
Did that idea ever get worked on to offer some sort of adfree subscription? I remember it was talked about by someone to Jim a few months ago, and I bet many people would love to support EB directly and get an adfree experience.

Best vacuum cleaner for LEGO-heavy env question
JesseNight replied to sp1984's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Agreeing with MAB, avoiding is better than solving later. Depending on your kids' age, it could be a way to teach them responsibility while you're at it. For example set a day in the week you're going to be cleaning, and warn them to collect and store their bricks the day before if they don't want to risk losing them. If they don't heed the warning, confront them with consequences (for example pick up a brick or two you know they're going to miss and store them somewhere so they will feel the loss, even if only for a moment). To your actual question about vacuum cleaner models, I have no answer. If you generally have a very clean place (never wearing outside shoes inside, no pets, frequent cleaning) maybe a filter could help. But yeah anything that can remove dirt can and will remove small bricks as well I'm afraid. -

Help with identifying parts/sets!
JesseNight replied to WhiteFang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think that's dark tan...? [edit] Oh sorry, I actually read too quick and missed the part where you said you're colorblind. As for the yellow, to me they mostly look the same aside from very minimal color variation. -
Sponsored Lego reviews: Do you mind?
JesseNight replied to Lego Mike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I agree that we've probably all heard the talk about stickers more than enough times already, and statistics can be easily found for those who care. I do care about opinions about the product itself when it's about specifics, and well explained and shown what the good and the bad really are. That's for me a main reason to watch reviews. Very true. I think too many people dream of living from making content they love, only to find out later it's either just a dream, or a short lived career. Just like television in the old days, only a few people really make it in the scene, and only a very few manage to make it a lifetime career. And one has to be willing to expand their territory because they can't stick to the same thing forever. Even those with an interest will eventually get bored of it if it offers nothing new. That's sadly something that businesses are well aware of and exploit big time. Plenty of Youtubers are eager to make money or get free products, and to a business that's very cheap advertisement that reaches a lot of people if they're big enough on the platform. Fans look up to their favorite YTers, they wanna have stuff they show off or even stuff they see them using on stream. For this exact reason I've always kept hobbies and work strictly separated. I admire people who manage to make their hobby their job AND still enjoy it, but I know for me it would kill the hobby. Even making money with a hobby already has that effect for me, that's why I don't do hobby activities for others aside from family and close friends. Oh yeah... And how many of us are bored of the repetitive "Like and subscribe and turn on notifications!" call on almost every video these days? I know I am. I subscribe and like if I want to, and I will NEVER turn on notifications because it would drive me insane. Oh don't get me started on that... Reminds me of the time a friend of mine started streaming something new and for a short while gained a lot of following. Suddenly "hanging out with friends" became reality TV with dozens of people licking their boots, or wanting nothing more than being killed by their idol on camera (in a competitive game). That's not fun, and to me it took away what friendly competition always had been between us before that time. -
Sponsored Lego reviews: Do you mind?
JesseNight replied to Lego Mike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've always been biased against sponsored reviews of any kind. I'm not saying they're all bad, but I don't trust them as much as a small reviewer who buys products and shows what they've done with it with the good and the bad because it's their hobby rather than to make money. -
What is your favorite Space set? (One only!)
JesseNight replied to SpacePolice89's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
If I have to pick only one out of the sets that I've actually owned, I'm gonna have to go with 6781 Space Police Striker. I loved it even more than the Monorail at the time, and being a Police theme I felt like the 9V lights system was a great addition to this set. 6986 Mission Commander was the one I always wanted but never had. -
Ah yes, I forgot the minifigure utensils! There were spears, halberds, lances, and bows & arrows in the Castle theme too in brown in the 80s. And as Hrafn mentions, they probably fabricated bricks only when there was a need for it in a set. Castles mostly used 1 wide bricks and corners for walls and battlements. Technic used mostly 1 wide bricks with holes to make frames. Space used limited regular bricks. And Town didn't use much grey at all, if any.
-
As someone very active with LEGO in the mid 80s, I can confirm colors being limited and shades not being a thing. The colors of my collection at the time were limited to white, yellow, red, blue, light grey and black. Light grey was more limited than other colors and mostly used in the Castles line, and Technic parts. Few other colors we had for specific parts were green (baseplates, trees, flower stems), dark grey (train track sleeper plates, some regular plates). Not sure about brown but I think that didn't come before the late 80s for tree trunks, treasure chests, and some doors. We didn't have Pick-A-Brick (or even internet) at the time, so buying extra parts was limited. There were boxes that just contained extra bricks in a color, or a collection of doors and windows. And there was Service Packs you could place an order for at the store that contained a specific part or few parts that came in a sealed bag. Think the first option was mostly if you needed common bricks, the latter mostly for specific stuff.

Where can I go if I want to sell some Lego quickly?
JesseNight replied to zeronthegreat's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well aside from Bricklink, there's always websites like eBay, and perhaps some local marketplace websites per country. Many online marketplaces will have some form of verification process, all in the best interest for safety for both seller and buyer. -
[Poll] What is Your Favorite Space Faction (1978-1999)
JesseNight replied to SpacePolice89's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I had much more issues with SP2 besides not being a fan of the color theme (which is personal of course). As said before, the lack of detail and practicality above all. Take the big Galactic Mediator mothership for example. First impression: looks good. The front section is for the pilot, so far so good. The rear is for the rover, I can accept that. But what is the middle supposed to be? It's open on the front and the rear, and it has 1 computer printed slope sitting on the floor. I mean what the heck?? And what about the upper canopy on the front, there's no seats or anything in the area underneath it. And speaking about the double canopy design, it looks cool but isn't practical at all with the pilot under the lower one. Yes, I care about such details. And they really overdid it with the amount of "Space Police" printed slopes and tiles. Some issues affected smaller vessels too, like the general cockpit detail. You see there's only a single computer printed slope for control, and it's a minifigure's length out of reach of the pilot. How do these people fly? Mind control? Also overall, the theme seems to be lacking transparent pieces to represent lights. The canopies and windows are like the only transparent parts. I can accept that for a research or exploration faction, but not for a police one. -- End of rant. -
[Poll] What is Your Favorite Space Faction (1978-1999)
JesseNight replied to SpacePolice89's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I honestly loved the BT2 color theme... just not for the BT faction, being shown as dark and evil the first time. Had they used it on a new mining or research faction it would have made more sense to me. -
[Poll] What is Your Favorite Space Faction (1978-1999)
JesseNight replied to SpacePolice89's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I agree. But even before that, I found SP2 a big disappointment too. First impression they were nice on the outside, but they felt like seriously lacking on the inside. I loved it, but have to confess I was never a big fan of dual cockpit designs in general. SP1 Mission Commander remains an alltime favorite of mine, with the unique design of tilting up the cockpit and driving out. As well as the general looks of the ship as a whole. While it definitely wasn't perfect, considering that this mechanic occupied the entire middle section of the ship. Still hope to one day own this ship and design a small Technic mechanic for this, and then make a functional mid section of the ship that can host more police officers or sort of a command center. -
[Poll] What is Your Favorite Space Faction (1978-1999)
JesseNight replied to SpacePolice89's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Spyrius just never appealed to me for various reasons. First I was into space ships, and preferably in the ways previous themes had approached those. Second, it immediately bugged me to see inconsistency in transparent part usage. Some ships had dark blue canopies, the robot had a red canopy, the visors were neon green. Little details like that always catch my attention fast. And third, it was unclear to me what the whole theme was about. Like Blacktron were the bad guys. SP was self explanatory. M-Tron and Ice planet really showed what they were about. I'm sure Spyrius had cool sets but I always needed a bit more to get drawn in. -
[Poll] What is Your Favorite Space Faction (1978-1999)
JesseNight replied to SpacePolice89's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I absolutely loved the neon colors as a kid, and kinda still do. Is it somehow no longer appealing to younger generations? But even without neon, they made good color themes back then. BT1 was simple but lived up to its name, and was unlike anything we had seen before with even black visors. For SP1, the red & blue combined with black just worked really well as a police color theme. It was a great time for Space for sure. -

I loved SP1, possibly more than M-Tron. First faction to use the longer canopies (I loved those), awesome color theme imho, and some beautiful ships too including one with 9V lights that I own(ed). The big mothership was always on my wishlist but never made it to my collection. -

I'm mostly surprised about SP1 scoring relatively low among the popular group. -

Maybe their own designers got fooled by the too large front wheels? We'll probably never know.
