Pneumatic hexapod: Hello everybody, among other things, the company I work for uses a hexapod for vibrational and fatique analysis of car parts like hood, doors, interior, etc. A hexapod can control all six degrees of freedom of the tested device, which allows you to recreate various driving situations and loads without the need of the real car. This contest inspired me to recreate such a device in lego. Whilst obviously switching from hydraulic to pneumatic, everything else should be as realistic as possible. This meant, that unlike other lego-hexapods out there, I had to go for stationary cylinders. (You do not want moving cylinders in vibrational analysis due to inertia and damping effects of the cylinders, as well as wear on the hydraulic hoses) The most difficult part was to get the angles of the cylinders right so the table can have a maximum of movement without the cylinders and the linkage getting in the way of each other. It is a rather small construction compared to some of the other awesome entries, but I wanted it to be focused on the core functionality. Best regards and good luck to everyone.

Thx, yes something changed for picture posting, I had to try a few things. Should work now? -

Nice, this one really captures the feeling of coruscant. I especially like Padme's apartment. I would love to see pictures, once you built that in reality. -

For my coruscant entry, I wanted to recreate the feeling of the multi-layered city humming with life, so I went with a really small scale. The bottom of the towers is a power facility. Above that are the first floors of the towers. Naturally, these low floors are populated by the scum of the city, thieves, drug dealers, illegals and generally the poorest of the poorest. Bars, night clubs and theatres are located on the middle floors. You can see people standing in front of a famous bar, or customers waiting patiently in a queue to visit some adult entertainment. A famous musician appears on stage in the theatre, so there is a queue of wealthy guests here, as well. The top levels of one tower is inhabited by a guild's palace. Regular people are not allowed on those levels any more. On top of the other tower is a hangar for the rich peoples privately owned space craft. The air above the city is filled with traffic.

Some young Jedis get cornered by a bunch of remote controlled robots, which are steered by a crazy engineer.

Some rich kids got hold of a bunch of retired X-Wings and modified them for space races. This one had almost the entire bodywork and most of the military parts removed, to be as light and agile as possible...

Awesome, I was looking forward for this contest to start. I think, it's a nice selection of challenges! Two small questions regarding the ship category: is there a size minimum/maximum like only one pilot or no more than five passengers? And regarding the colour scheme, do I have to search for colourful ships within the star wars universe or is a new colour for an existing ship possible too. Something like a red millennium falcon for example? Best Regards, N8walker

Thanks you! I had great fun doing something unconventional in technic.

Thanks for your interest, I created a short video of the functions!

Hello everybody, This is my interpretation of a sailing vessel in the space age: The Rusty Sailor She is a smuggler ship, which is in service of the owners' family for ages and has seen lots of repairs and modifications. The vessel is equipped with solar sails to travel long distances while steering clear of official refuelling points. Of course, she needs to be able to make planetfall to avoid curious eyes at the orbital space ports. To achieve this, the solar sails can be retracted during landing. If cornered, the Rusty Sailor is able to defend herself, as she possesses four heavily armed turrets. As I am a technic guy, my main focus was to create many working functions for this vessel: - Both sails can be lifted or retracted simultaneously - Both sails can be rotated simultaneously - Landing gear and front ramp operate simultaneously - Left and right side turret are synchronised All functions are centrally controlled by wheels at the side of the ship The display stand is connected with a ball joint to the ship, so it balances rather freely on it. Thank you for organizing this contest, it was a really fun theme (although I had trouble to finish my entry in time - I need to work on my time management)

Yes, it will only eliminate the opportunity of not voting in order to increase your own average. Apart from that, it does not eliminate the possibility to vote unfair. We have to count on good sportsmanship for that. I don't know a good way to prevent this, apart from getting as many people to vote as possible, to get a good average...

[TC26] CRAB ROV
n8walker replied to n8walker's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hello everybody, attached you can see further pictures of the modules and assembly -
The CRAB ROV - Camouflage Robot for Arctic Biotopes - Remote Operated Vehicle Task: This rather small ROV (1:1 scale) disguises as a crab to observe and examine arctic wildlife undisturbed above and below the ice. Remote controlled functions: - walking mechanism - front four legs and rear four legs controlled separately - rotating propellers connected to rear legs drivetrain - rotating fan connected to front leg drivetrain - scissor arm left and right controlled by one motor each - eyes look left and right - coupled to scissor arm movement Static functions: - big red transporting bracket to lift the robot - cargo space - medical fluid container and needles mounted to the scissors to collect blood samples or give vaccinations to local wildlife - docking station with solar powered recharging and a satellite dish

[TC26] CRAB ROV
n8walker replied to n8walker's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Soo,I did some updates, colour scheme is now white with yellow and red accents. I added a robust red transporting bracket to lift the robot. You could even grab it with a hook and a winch. As well a little cargo space is added at the rear. Inside of that is a fluid containing drum, which is connected to the medical equipment at the crab scissors. This could be used to either collect blood samples from local wildlife or give some vaccination. A little base station for the ROV was built, too. It gives the robot the opportunity to recharge with solar power and improves the robots signal connection with a big satellite dish. This base station has a transport bracket as well, to lift it up. [TC26] CRAB ROV
n8walker replied to n8walker's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you for your detailed feedback, I will see, what I can implement in the given time. Building a ROV was my plan immediately, because I guessed, most people would choose a manned vehicle and I wanted a different approach. The crab design came to my mind quickly as well, and I like the cute look of the robot. Also it is built in original scale, so it is a rather small robot. The mission plan of this ROV would be to be deployed in the vicinity of local wildlife, let's say a seal. Due to its crablike appearance it wouldn't disturb the animal and could observe it and follow it around. Even if the seal decides to dive into a ice hole, the ROV can follow it. So I have to think about, what equipment to give to the robot without disturbing the disguise. Also the robot is quite fast and shaky, so I will probably lose all equipment while moving . But I think, a control station with a nice radar dish and probably some solar panels to improve the robots signal connection and recharge it during the mission time would be a nice addition. For the photoshoot there is a little bit of arctic landscape planned. I have a white blanket which looks a lot like snow and the robot leaves funny looking tracks on that blanket. Colour change according to seasiders recommendation is planned. Sadly I don't own orange technic parts, so that colour is no option. Best Regards
