I'll admit to picking up the odd Playmo set once in a while--usually when it's interesting and on sale. When I was a kid (admittedly, a looooooong time ago), Playmo had a def. advantage in that they had more weapons for their troops. I would add, though, that Lego seems to last longer--the old Playmo guys will barely stand anymore. There was a time, I seem to recall, that Lego and Playmo had very similar themes (castle, pirate, etc). At any rate, it's worth pointing out that Lego and Playmo have a lot in common with each other; more similar than dissimilar.

Here's a thought (and this is pure speculation): it's also possible that any similarities are not entirely intentional. For example, people (young ones, most likely) are first exposed to the movies. Those people are then involved in focus groups or test groups for new LEGO sets--they liked the movie, and the LEGO sets that remind them of the movies receive higher scores/play ratings, so those sets get put into production. Just a theory. I remember thinking something similar with POTC and the <insert that tiresome argument> pirate sets.

Stopped by TRU last Friday--they had Spongebob as well as the new miner sets. And speaking of TRU--prices went up on the pirates. Soldier's fort was 54.99 USD and the ship was 104.99 USD. The worst price was the impulse soldier--6.99 USD! That's twice was Lego charges! On a related note, I did find the new Indiana Jones plane set at a Target for 50 bucks--so I bought myself a Christmas present :skull:

Well, I suppose I feel a little better. Haven't been able to view Today's Active Topics for four days now. I was afraid EB cut me off! I won't begin to pretend to understand everything it takes to run a site like EB, and therefore won't complain either. Thanks to those who are working hard to remedy the situation (and good luck )

Out of curiosity, did anyone try using Wal-Mart's "We'll match any other stores ad" policy and use K-Mart's buy 2 get 1 one free? It didn't even cross my mind until Saturday (too late!) that that might work.
-
Well, shoot--I thought I'd be the one with the exciting Wal-Mart news. Went to a Wal-Mart last Friday that quit carrying Lego except for bionicle a couple of years ago. Imagine my surprise when I spied King's Castle Siege for $48.88. They had two; I bought one. Sounds like Wal-Mart picked up a bunch of these sets and distributed them to a bunch of their stores. I hope all of you get a chance to score some sweet Lego deals, too.

Happy birthday, Hinckley! May your day be filled with the glorious brick!

Show us or tell us about your Album collection?
Buckshot replied to hollisbrick's topic in Community
A Dropkick Murphys fan?! I thought I'd be the only one--going to go see them live on Nov. 19th and I'm veeeeery excited about it! Er, back on topic--around 300 cds and 100 or so of those cassette tapes (boxed up in the basement). Latest additions were DKM's special edition Worst of Times and the new Dragonforce. -
Ideas for 10193 Medieval Market Village add-ons
Buckshot replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The market set won't even be out for three more months, and you're already speculating on what's next. Glad to see I'm not the only one! The upcoming market set looks great and kudos to TLG for bringing it to us! As for this poll, the windmill, bakery, and church got my vote. Not only would they go well with the market, but they would be easy to use with the pirate sets and modern city sets also. Yes, a church might ruffle some religious feathers, but a medieval church would look good in any western city. A city hall with prison would be nice, but I've got a castle with a dungeon already. As for minifigs--more women! After all, the men need something to fight over :skull: -
So here it is, a nice Sunday afternoon, and I'm thinking "I'll just check out Eurobricks for a bit to see if anything's new." Now my jaw hurts because it suddenly dropped onto my desk...but I don't care! Haven't been this excited about a set in a long time--and judging by the response to this topic, I'm not the only one Great idea for TLG--a set that both castle-heads and townies will like. With any luck, this the start of a beautiful trend. Now for the pessimistic angle--I will be VERY surprised if this set is only 100 USD. Happily surprised, no question--but everything is getting more expensive. Still--awesome-looking set!

Quick update--my local TRU (US) has a buy-two-get-one free this week--excluding Star Wars, Spongebob, and Indiana Jones. I picked up a creator set, a Batman set, and got a castle set for free.

Why not have a Mythology or History Theme Lego Sets
Buckshot replied to boogiewoogiekid's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Whew!--I keep hearing about 2009 sets, but no reference to the castle theme. After hearing that the castle advent calendar won't even make it to the U.S., I really started to worry. Back to topic--many of us would love a Greek or Roman line. The idea of using mythological creatures as foes follows the strategy used with the viking line (less human-on-human violence). Something I'd love to see would be the seven wonders of the ancient world done similar to the Eiffel Tower and Taj Mahal sets. They wouldn't be minifig scale, of course, but they'd still be sweet. I guess we just have to hope that the Playmobil line of Roman sets sells really well and Lego picks up on it. Back to off-topic--does anyone remember the Asian adventurer sets? There was a temple accessed by a wooden bridge, the yeti set, and the dragon emperor's castle--all which seem to tie in with the latest Mummy movie (saw it last night). All that was missing were the dragon boats. Coincidence? -
Quick update--TRU (in the US, anyway) has %20 off Batman Lego this week. I picked up the Tumbler for 40 USD--not a great deal, but better than full price. However, the TRU I was at had Harley Quinn's truck regularly priced at 34.99 USD; the same item is 29.99 USD at Target, making a trip to TRU for one of those not worth your time.

$100US PAB Tub at LEGO Company Stores
Buckshot replied to Dark Brick's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Thanks for the information, stash2sixx, although I must admit it saddens me. I'll be visiting you(r store) at the end of the month, and was looking forward to getting myself another green tub. Sigh. Rumor put to sleep... -
$100US PAB Tub at LEGO Company Stores
Buckshot replied to Dark Brick's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
I just got back from a vacation, and was lucky enough to visit both the Atlanta and the Orlando Lego stores--neither of which had the $100 tub I was hoping to get one at Orlando (advertised as the largest PAB in the world). Has the $100 tub gone away for good, or can it still be found in some areas? -
Just finished a Space Marines campaign in Soulstorm--fun game, but as a word of advice, save between battles. The game went down while playing, and I lost about four hours' worth of fighting the heretics >:-( last Friday night.

I'm excited to see it, Greyfox327--one of the few movies that I'll go to the theater for. Curious to see how they're going to incorporate the old story for the movie--for example, Snake Eyes, Stalker, and Storm Shadow served together in Vietnam, which would make them a wee bit old for battles of world-supremacy. Maybe Lego will pick up the movie license....probably not, but how cool would that be? Actually, weren't there some G.I.Joe non-Lego brick sets released a while back?

I'd like to give the people who make this site possible a big "Thank You!" Eurobricks is one of two sites that I check almost daily, and that's because the people behind it make it great. Nice work, Eurobricks! I'd like to take you all out to a Fabuland dinner.

Yay! Other Terry Pratchett fans! I'm currently almost done reading Reaper Man. *skull*

Hmmm....well, Bricklink lists a "new" Neptune Lab at $90...so that's a pretty good indicator of it's potential worth. I'm guessing you could get a lot more on ebay. You seem to have stumbled upon a goldmine. Lucky! Soooooooooo, Brickmaster...I'm in Iowa, and Wisconsin isn't THAT far away. The location of this wonder store...what's it worth to you? >:-)
-
hehehe....yes, that's probably what would happen >:-) It's hard to be objective when Lego is involved. Just last week a student presented a project he'd built with Lego (I encourage this), which I thought was cool. Upon closer inspection, however, I found that he'd mixed Lego and Megabloks together. The horror! Anyway, sorry about being off-topic!

As an American, I wish I could take offense, but it's true... :'-( Keep in mind we're not ALL like that :-P I'm a teacher in here in the States, and I've never been allowed to get Lego with school money >:-( Maybe I should try a communist experiment to get the school to buy me a bunch >:-) . Let's see...for the best result, we should start with a UC M. Falcon...

Now, now, no need to get testy. I'm a bit of a maggot, too.
-
So, PSPguy, you're a maggot, are you? ;-) * I'm dressing up as a pirate, of course. It's the one time of year I get to let the inner swashbuckler out >:-) *For you non-Slipknot fans, a "maggot" is the nickname for Slipknot fans.
