Heroica RPG - Quest#111: No Fear of the Setting Sun
Endgame replied to Khorne's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Some people aren't nice, Polly... Tell me, merchant, what is your cargo? And why do you believe that the Norseman will harm us?" -
Jeaux bottles up what he can, finding: Venom x5 "Hmph. I still don't trust you fully. At least the rest of you seem reliable..." The party forges into the door, reading an insciprtion on the arch: "Observatory Tower" The party steps inside the tower, and find themselves in a rather surreal location. It was the foyer of the tower. There are three doors: one to the North, one to the East, and one to the West. The sounds of metal clanging is heard from the East. The dark, oppresive walls of the tower almost seem to be closing in on the heroes, but the place manages to be somewhat tranquil, in away. Two globes seem to contain an eerie nebula, seemingly entire constellations held inside them. If the party didn't know any better, they would think looking into the globes was like staring into the night sky. "It's... Almost pretty, in a way." What will the party do?

"Dastan...? I... Never heard of the placer, honestly. Looks pretty dry by the looks of things - mountainous, too." -
Most definitely. I was not expecting a ticket into Dastan.
-
Well, Khorne, that was a bombshell and a half you just dropped on us.

"Uhhh... No, not really... Care to tell us?" -
"He's just as heartless as the demons here, hmph. At least he isn't evil. ...Right?"

Rather than parrot other people's compliments and make a huge wall of text (because they were absolutely right: That quest was great Emjajoas - I'm not saying this from the perspective of a first time hosting job, either. Even if it was your tenth, it'd still be excellent), I'll give you one little bit of advice: Sometimes you can make a compromise between stories and battling. For example, why not have a Dream Juggernaut/General/Commander as the boss?

"Great pep talk. And then asking me to give up a family heirloom? Who do you think you are? Minus that... Dreadful mannequin, I'd atleast like to try helping you guys..." Alice Incor, Level 20 Sage *Invisibility!* HP: 30/30 Ether: 22/22 SP: 2 Equipment: Leather Armor (SP: 2, Bodywear) Invisibility Cloak (Backwear: 1/6 chance of dodging rolls of Damage and Free Hits), Ivory Hammer (WP: 12), Diamond, Amethyst Inventory: Grand Potion x2, Smelling Salts x2 Would the party allow Alice to tag along? And would they forge along?

Red Menace Mafia: Day One - Ice Station Zebra

In regards to the current situation: I still think the Miller claim is well founded, due to a variety of things: being made without pressure or prodding, for starters. Secondly, claiming miller as soon as possible at least helps the town, assuming they're not scum: considering he claimed so early without being poked, I feel as if the odds are slanted in our miller's favor. Finally, since a real miller could easily just nail a false one, it would make claiming a stupid risk for a scum. Is he 100 percent Townie? of course not. But the scales are tipped in his favor. However, Jerry strikes me as odd. His reasoning doesn't seem to be entirely trying to disprove or invalidate Trevor's claim and therefore being scummy, but rather trying to point out several worst case scenarios, and drift blame to those who believe Trevor did what was right. It doesn't strike me as a Townie who thinks someone is Scummy, but rather a Scum trying to cause confusion. Combined with his insufficient logic... Vote: Jerry (Jimbee) -

I'm willing to accept the claim as well - ultimately, claiming earlier just helps the town, as well as being something of an obligation of a miller. The fact that he claims now instead of after an investigation makes me more liable to believe him. -
There are now several walls, desks, and palms with an Endgame's-forehead-sized indent in them.

"No, no... You can't. She's just... Ink on the wall, probably. You must've saw her, right? In that big cavern in the tunnel on the way here? My sister was the leader of the hunting group that got cursed and turned into portraits. She gave me this inviisiblity cloak, and told me to scram... It's almost definitely too late. If the ink of the portrait isn't dry, you can crack the canvas, and that breaks the curse. But... Even if we were to run back down, it's probably too late. She's gone now..." Alice hangs her head low.
-
Alice eagerly drinks the remedy, staving off the poison. "I... Yes. Kind of? My sister told me to run, and I did... I spent some time trying to figure out that crematorium lock. After that, I came here, and... Seerus ambused me. He took the tonics I had on me, recharged his ether, poisoned me, and warped away. Who knows where he is now..."
-
"Alice. My name is Alice. That woman who got turned into painting back in the tunnel here? She was... Is... my sister. I took my invisibility cloak and ran, and well... Now here we are." Alice staggers up, and only manages a couple steps before toppling back down. "Damn poison..."
-
"I am not..." "You're correct, sir..." "Sorry, mannequin, you won't be able to see me..." "...Okay. You won't be able to help me otherwise." With that, the party turns to the voice, and watches as the girl reveals herself, pulling of a billowing sheet from her prone body. The girl was brunette, a pool of venom seeping into her torso. It seems like she was poisoned. The shimmering cloth falls at ther side. ' "Invisiblity cloak... Neat trick, huh? Either way... I got poisoned by that demon... Seerus. Could... Could one of you heal me?"

"I... Wow..." mutters the pale woman as she feels Ennoc's blessing. As the party reaches the docks, Lynne looks down at the child tugging on her sleeve. She smiles. She wishes she could remember her childhood, but... "Well, Polly, I'll check." Lynne walks over to the three men. "Yes, hello! Do any of you know or are a man named Orel Cayne? -
QM Note: Had a tornado spotted near where I live, so sorry for the delay! (It lasted only a minute and tore up some trees - no casualties, thanfkully.) "The past is in the past now. Good bye and good luck, heroes. Send my father my regards." With that, Octus's spirit vanishes, the party taking one last look at the carnage in the crematorium. Satisfied that all was done there, they exitted the room, and ascended the stairs in the foyer, bringing them to a large door. They open the door and step through, a chill descending upon them as they forged onward... It was small, chilly courtyard. Plants seemingly made out of steel stand near the door on the other side, oozing a volatile looking venom. The grass had mostly withered up and died from the plants secreting the toxic liquid. No snow falls into the courtyard, strangely - the party looks up and sees the snow getting repelled above them, likely because of some sort of bubble of wind magic. The heroes can hear a hoarse voice - sounding like that of a young girl's - speak out. "You... aren't The Regret's troops... Are you?" Looking around, the party cannot discern the source.

"We're all going to have to watch eachother's backs. End of story." Lynne shrugs. -
"...He wasn't in control of himself, then. He is now."
-
"Eh, fair enough. It's not groundbreaking, but... I'll leave you with a warning. The Regret has almost completely fortified this Citadel. The treasure hunters are being effortlessly staved off from the outside, he's keeping almost every specter trying to breach their way into land of the living suffocated... He's defending this place on practically all fronts, physical or not. Why you're in here, well... Either my father miscaluclated, and you're being manipulated. It seems like I've become a bit of a doomsayer, so here... allow me to give you something material to help you through. I picked this little trick up in the afterlife; you can learn a lot to talking to your former slavemasters." With a snap of his ghostly fingers, Octus does... something to the party. The heroes find themselves brimming with power, the entire party encouraged for the next battle. "Neat trick, eh? I'm guessing you'll have to forge deeper into the Citadel soon, though." QM Note: I'll move this along later tonight/tomorrow morning.

"A... High Priestess? Should I be bowing or something, Alisameth? I'm sorry if I'm a bit clueless... Anyway, my name is Lynne." "Oh, so you are questing with us, little girl... I hope you'll be okay." "Thank you for the information, High Priestess."
